Today's guest on Chasing Poker Greatness is a blast from the past… Jimmy “Gobboboy” Fricke.Sometimes when you don't hear a poker player's name for a while in poker media, you can't help but wonder “What happened to them?” with the typical follow-up thought being, “I really hope they're okay”.In today's show you'll be happy to learn that not only is Jimmy okay, but he's thriving in a world totally outside of poker which, to those of us who have felt locked inside the game with no way out, is a massive, massive accomplishment.Back in 2006, Jimmy burst into the poker limelight after a scorching hot run on the online felt, and capped off his torrid run with a 2nd place finish in January at the 2007 Aussie Millions main event for a $795,000 score.Incredibly, Jimmy was only 19 years old.A year and a half later, he'd take down the $5k Bellagio Cup IV for another $443k score. And as Jimmy's MTT career faded into the background over the next few years, he discovered a new love:Mixed games. It was in that arena that he followed his bliss, plied his trade, and paid his way through life over the next decade until his eventual pivot out of the world of poker and into the world of business. As a personal aside, in our time together, I found Jimmy to be a gracious, humble, and extremely generous human being and I feel honored to have gotten the opportunity to sit down and learn more about his poker journey. Now, without any further ado, I bring to you an OG of online poker and longtime poker professional… the one and only Jimmy Fricke. To learn more about the Free Nuffle promotion, visit: https://freenuffle.comCPG Cash Game Courses!Preflop Bootcamp: https://bit.ly/Preflop-BootcampFish in a Barrel: http://bit.ly/fish-in-a-barrelNeutralize Flop Leads: https://bit.ly/2OkN8Yt

Around mid-December (When this episode was originally recorded) my burning desire for cranking out tons of weekly episodes was starting to wane. The story I told myself was that the CPG Wolf project needed most of my waking energy and anything that took away from that was an unnecessary distraction. And I believed that story right up until the moment I pressed record with Brandon Shack-Harris.As I found myself feeling fully present and totally immersed in Brandon's story I was reminded of all the core reason why the CPG podcast is my passion project:Having conversations with folks like Brandon makes me feel more alive, lights me up on the inside, and genuinely makes my day.And so, before you hear the story about the time Brandon was almost a member of the band Muse, the unanticipated way his poker journey began, or the counter-intuitive method he uses to improve his poker skills I just wanted to share with you this lesson:Remember to make space in your life to do the things that make you feel alive inside, even if your brain and central nervous system push back. Life is too short and precious to do anything otherwise. Now, without any further ado, I bring to you an amazing poker player and even more amazing human being… the great Brandon Shack-Harris.To learn more about the Free Nuffle promotion, visit: https://chasingpokergreatness.com/free-nuffle-promotionNew CPG Cash Game Courses!Preflop Bootcamp: https://bit.ly/Preflop-BootcampFish in a Barrel: http://bit.ly/fish-in-a-barrelNeutralize Flop Leads: https://bit.ly/2OkN8Yt

This week, Steph and I are back with Mightier Than the Sword. Our topic: the difference between writing and storytelling. I step out of my comfortable narrative distance to tell a very difficult true story. Two weeks ago, I was the victim of a sexual assault. The ways people- from friends and neighbors to law enforcement- reacted to my story made me realize that I may be a decent writer, but I am not a reliable storyteller. Steph and I talk about how women who have been victimized often detach from their feelings in order to relate a traumatic event. This is not your typical MTTS. Speaking of editing, in editing this podcast, I realize how insecure I sound. I think many of you out there will empathize with my plight- seeking editorial help and constructive criticism, but also deathly afraid to actually receive it. Our next Mightier Than the Sword is the follow-up to what happened with this foray into peer editing. It's an honest look at a sensitive subject, but just so you know- Steph and I remain the best of friends. Writers with questions/suggestions, daters with stories/insights, email us at easychairpodcast@gmail.com with the appropriate podcast (here's a thought-use acronyms!- MTTS or SSL) in the subject line.
