POPULARITY
Fr. Jonathan Romanoski, FSSP is Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Providence, Rhode Island. He was ordained in 2008. In Today's Show I waited in line for confession for a while, but it ended before it got to me, what should I do? Advice for fellow priests on confession times. If I get distracted during my holy hour does the prayers still count? Any advice on overcoming severe scrupulosity? For the 54-day novena, do we have to say all the extra prayers that are commonly said with the rosary? For the Candlemas blessing of candles, do they still have to be made of 100% beeswax? When I was saying the act of contrition during my confession, I remembered a grave sin, do I stop and tell the priest? How does one balance reverence with the desire to express love for God? Like when St. Thomas Aquinas leaned his head on the Tabernacle. My family and boyfriend made me have an abortion, Should I break off the engagement, even if he is repentant? Do you recommend getting sacramentals re-blessed if they were originally blessed a long time ago? My family plans to go skiing on a Sunday. Is it licit since it would cause the employees of the resort to work? Does the term spiritual reading simply mean reading the scriptures? How to do Catholic meditation correctly. Is it true that saints can literally sometimes speak thru people? Should I have different priests for confession and spiritual direction? Who were the Nephtali, were they half demon?

O Oriens: O Radiant Dawn. What does it mean that Jesus is the Sunrise? O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death. Isaiah prophesied, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shown" (Isaiah 9:1). We seem to be living the liturgical year in a deeply experiential way. Advent, for instance, is about waiting for the light of Christ, with hope. In what circumstance do you need light and hope? Do you have a daily Scripture habit to give you a measure of light and hope every morning? V - Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) Our hope wanes late in the year with the light of the sun. Our souls yearn and stretch toward your coming. Give us your daily light in the Word; give us the hope of our salvation; come to us and show us the strength of your arm; let the light of your face shine on us, and we shall be saved. Amen + O Oriens, by the Dominican student brothers at Blackfriars in Oxford singing the Latin plainchant: These are the traditional “O Antiphons” associated with each night to which they are assigned. Each one addresses Christ by a different title, based upon the Messianic prophesies in the Book of Isaiah. Most people are familiar with these titles from the hymn, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, which is based upon the O Antiphons: Dec 17: O Sapientia (O Wisdom), Dec 18: O Adonai (O Lord), Dec 19: O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse), Dec 20: O Clavis David (O Key of David), Dec 21: O Oriens (O Rising Sun), Dec 22: O Rex Gentium (O King of the Nations), and Dec 23: O Emmanuel The first letter of each Messianic title, read from Dec. 23 backwards, spells “ero cras,” or “Tomorrow, I come,” which is fitting, since the next night is the Christmas Vigil. Through all the long and lonely years trapped in addiction, I lived in fear of the darkness within me. But then, inspired by my fiancée and a sermon, I turned and faced my greatest fear: I looked into the darkness and attempted to exhume light. How? By writing. I began writing daily logs detailing the successes, failures, triumphs and tribulations I faced in my daily war to overcome addiction. I had no idea the Odyssey that I had begun – an Odyssey that would not only pass through the darkness of addiction, but to the very precipice of death itself. In this episode: the Odyssey begins… Nephtali Matta is the ministry coordinator of Koinania house, a ministry that helps men after they get out of prison. I first met him in a seminary class at Denver Seminary. Nephtali was the guy who seemed to have it all together with a bright future in ministry. Today he shares the story of discovering the dangers of people pleasing and trying to look like you have it all together. He let people in but never “gave them all the cards,” as he says, which meant no one knew his situation. When he went to jail on a domestic violence charge and spent 16 months there, his life was irrevocably changed. Please listen to Nephtali's story and share with a friend! Stories Nephtali shared: Growing up with a difference between (Expectations) The domestic violence incident that changed his life Moving back to Colorado while trying to get his marriage back together Going to jail while waiting for his legal issues to be worked out Jailhouse chapel service where he experienced grace His ministry in jail that confirmed God's calling in his life Discovering how hard it is to enter life outside jail. Finding his position at Koinonia House The grace he is able to offer to others Great quotes: The people of God are a lot more willing to accept you for your flaws and your sins, if you let them, than you're probably giving them credit for. I'm really bad at changing people and if I do then I'm probably messing them up. I wasn't lying about anything but I was hiding a lot. Tell anybody. Tell everybody. I'm tired of hiding.
