This year, I made it a point to weave in some Tea Dance-style tracks to break up the monotony of the tribal-heavy set. Let's be honest, a lot of what's been coming out in this space lately is straight-up uninspired — poor mastering, weak vocals, and a glaring lack of creativity compared to the pioneers of the genre. It's like everyone's copy-pasting the same blueprint, trying to force a square peg into a round hole. If you're going to sell your work on Bandcamp for $5 to $6 a pop, step up your game. Stop churning out the same recycled formula. That said, I've been leaning more toward Henriq Moraes, who, at the very least, brings solid production values and avoids that annoying high-pitched sound you hear too often these days. His remixes are fresh, varied, and don't feel like the same song on repeat. There are a few other producers I keep my eye on, but they're not as prolific. Even so, Henriq isn't pumping out new tracks every week, which is how it should be if you want quality. Mor Avrahami continues to bring the heat with his remixes, as does Dirty Disco. These guys know how to keep it fresh and exciting. But let's not forget the legends still out there touring, remixing, and schooling the next generation. I'm talking about the likes of Danny Verde, Cajjmere Wray, Nick Harvey, and other masters of the craft. Their experience shows in the style, hooks, and embellishments they add to their remixes. These touches are what separate a "meh" track from one that slays. Standout Moments & Must-Listen Tracks Speaking of Danny Verde and Tom Stephan — these two veteran producers joined forces to reimagine Lady Gaga's "Disease," and the result is nothing short of masterful. While there's no shortage of mediocre (and outright bad) remixes of this track, their darker, moodier approach cuts through the noise. The remix leans into a shadowy, underground vibe, amplifying the song's raw intensity. The undeniable hook pulls you in from the jump and refuses to let go, making their version a clear standout in a sea of forgettable attempts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKE3sIOHH60 On a related note, Nick Harvey recently dropped an entire EP of remixes for "Stand Up" by Suzanne Palmer. This one caught me off guard — not only for the quality but for the names attached. Two standouts are the mixes from Cajjmere Wray and the elusive Eddie Baez. Yes, that Eddie Baez. I didn't even know he was still active in the scene! Both versions are stellar, but I had to roll with Eddie's for nostalgia's sake.

Nick Harvey, a former Detective Inspector in the Metropolitan Police, discusses his transition from law enforcement to his current role as a Customer Success Manager at Cellebrite. He describes his experience in tackling county lines, a form of organized crime in the UK where drug dealers set up operations in smaller towns and cities to expand their business. He also discusses the role of mobile phones in criminal investigations and how data-driven approaches can expedite the justice process. Nick goes on to highlight the challenges of explaining digital evidence to judges and juries and the potential impact of artificial intelligence in forensic investigations. He also emphasizes the importance of communication between digital forensics units and investigators and the need for tools that can handle large data sets and provide actionable insights. Nick shares his thoughts on the impact of regulations on forensic processes and the need for a balance between oversight and efficiency. The sense that our politics isn't working might be familiar to listeners of this podcast. If you heard last week's episode you'll know that I had James O'Brien discussing his book “How they Broke Britain”, which gets to the heart of these questions. But one area that James and I didn't touch on is our parliament. Britain's parliament, sometimes self-importantly calling itself the Mother of Parliaments, isn't working properly. Its members aren't scrutinising legislation properly, its regulations and procedures are largely broken and it contributes to a wider sense of cynicism around our politics. Two seasoned parliamentarians, Nick Harvey and Paul Tyler, have focused in on the way parliament currently works and how it should work and have produced a short, easily readable book which contains a set of clear proposals, around elections, parliamentary procedure, reform of the upper house and standards in public life. Although it's just about parliament, this book could be titled How to Fix Britain, because if its recommendations where followed, our national life would be improved immeasurably. It's actually called Can Parliament Take Back Control ? And comes with strong endorsements from the Institute for Government, the Constitution Unit at University College London and the Former Clerk of the House of Commons, Lord Lisvane.I was lucky to be able to speak to Paul and Nick and draw on their combined several decades of political experience to hear their recommendations for how to fix our politics. Here they areYou can find Paul and Nick on Twitter and in the usual places. I am @snellarthur on most social media and my Substack is https://arthursnell.substack.com/ Hosted on Acast. In this conversation Mike speaks with Duncan Blackwell about fountain pens and the role of the church in raising up Bible teachers at a local level, rather than exclusively depending on parachurch organizations or seminaries. “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” (Ephesians 4:11–12, ESV)Duncan Blackwell is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Elk City, Oklahoma. He has served in this role since June 2022, having previously served as a Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor in two prior churches. He and his wife Julie have four sons, ages 6, 5, 3, and 2 months old. On any given day the Blackwells can be found homeschooling, playing t-ball, hunting, or reading the Chronicles of Narnia. Duncan is passionate about leading God's people to fulfill the Great Commission, through biblical exposition. Let's go on a journey that bridges the spiritual and secular realms of communication. Join us for a thoughtful and self-reflective exploration as we think about the true meaning of effective preaching, drawing inspiration from an unexpected source – Toastmasters. In this thought provoking episode, we are joined by Nick Harvey, Young Adult leader at Calvary Chapel Santa Maria, who reveals the treasures of merging Spirit dependent teaching with the art and craft of public speaking.Prepare to uncover timeless techniques that transcend boundaries, allowing you to captivate hearts and minds. Discover the profound impact of purposeful gestures (what on earth are we supposed to do with our hands, anyway?) the artful elimination of filler words, and the transformative beauty of a well-placed pause. Welcome everyone, a little shopkeeping before we start. If you haven't already seen it on socials, we now have a merch store, two in fact, one for the US and one for Canada, to make things easier on both sides of the border. I'll leave it to the international folks to decide which one's easier for them. The links to both stores are on all the socials and they will be in the show notes of this episode. Also, on the supporting the podcast front, I must send a shout-out to Gary Martin and Nick Harvey. Thank you both for supporting the show by buying a virtual coffee. So a while back when I was introducing the episode with Mercy and Ben Bishop. I had mentioned that quite a few people have reached out to me requesting interviews with folks who are at the beginning of their careers, and this particular gentleman you're about to hear fits that bill perfectly. The thing is, though, whether you're at the start of your career or partway through it, I don't think you can help but be inspired by this gentleman's stories. When I first met him at the pre-cert course at Heartland in October, a couple of years back, he walked up to me, shook my hand, and he said, I know you're nervous, but you don't have to worry. Yes, I will be a guest on your podcast. As you will hear, at that time, he was able to count how many horses he had done, literally how many shoes he had nailed when he showed up at this course. It's a reoccurring theme, prepared or not, Riley will jump in head first at any opportunity to learn something new. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. I just finished overcoming what seemed like insurmountable obstacles building my new workstation, I finally got it finished and managed to squeeze this set out in record time. I spent Friday pouring through new releases in Beatport, bootlegs on SoundCloud and Bandcamp, which may not sound like a lot of work but I assure you it is. It takes a better part of the day. From there, I tagged all the files and combed through them to see what was worth it and what was not. Saturday, I sat down and mixed it all up in one sitting then started the outline of the artwork for this release. I got up early this morning and finished the artwork and now I'm delivering our first Circuit & Anthems release of 2022! Overall, this set is much better than I anticipated. In fact, it's downright fantastic! Y'all should know that I don't shy away from patting myself on the back for a job well done. Other than the amount of work and money (this set cost upwards of $80 to put together) and time, what makes it work are the solid remixes and releases from a plethora of global artists and DJs who make up this set. Without the quality of their work, this would just be okay at best. Now that Party Favorz is up to speed, I've started working on the Trance Classics that I've been teasing out since last year. That will complete our trip through the 90's (even though there is spillover into the early millennium). From there, I'm exicted to announce an Electro House Classics series from the first 10 years of the millenium before launching into the House Classics of the early millennium. All of these are massive endeavors but all are party of my bucket list that I've bound myself to in our final year. Until the next time...ENJOY! That's 3 straight loses for the Bears but for us at No Ketchup that's almost irrelevant. Justin Fields has now played his "Best Game as a Pro" in back to back weeks. The Bears defense gave up massive chunk plays, 33 points and didn't force a punt at home against a very average Niners offense. Are the problems on defense the scheme or the roster? BUT it wasn't all bad Sunday. Justin Fields had the best game of his young career and showed why he can be the Bears QB for the next decade plus. We break down the difference in play/attitude in Justin Fields we saw Sunday. LIKE, SHARE & SUBSCRIBE!! Bears travel to Tampa and get throttled in every single phase of the game. What did you expect? Sean, Nick and Eli are back to break down the 24-14 L to the Packers at Soldier Field. Same old nonsense on offense. Does the front office think this team can contend? Are they in win now mode? Should the Bears start tearing down everything right now? The Bears have some young talent on offense and the quicker they start to strip older money to re-stock draft picks the better. As Bears fans how do we feel about Aaron Rodgers? How did you feel when he yelled "I STILL OWN YOU" as he ran off the field? Mad? We break it down. LIKE, SHARE & SUBSCRIBE!! We're sittin' on top of the world...because it's the season 5 finale of The Third Men Podcast - AND our landmark 150th episode! That's TWO big things. But of course, in the Jack White tradition, we need a third big thing...so for this special milestone episode we present to you an extended discussion with musician, podcaster, and Atlantic Records marketing mastermind Nick Harvey! Earlier in the year, Paul joined Nick and co-host Eric Daino on their wonderful Adventure Time podcast titled Adventure Guys, and in that episode an interesting discussion began: what role did the four years of high school and the four years of college play in the development of our respective musical tastes? Does an artist who waits four years between releases miss out on an entire generation of possible fans? How does an aging fanbase affect the trajectory of an artist's style? Do the musical prejudices we can sometimes carry with us in our youth grow out of us as adults...or do those divisions only grow stronger over time? These questions and more are the subject of today's 150th episode we had to title "Four Years of Chances" - in which we seek to trace our own musical evolution through stories, melodies and experiences of distant playlists past. At Atlantic Records, fostering fandom is top of mind for Nick, who serves as Marketing Director and has spent the last decade entrenched in nearly every aspect of the music business. Nick is also on hand to give us his perspective on Jack White's career, as well as the many achievements racked up by Third Man Records in their own 12 years of carefully curated activity. Our thanks go to Nick Harvey for joining us this week, and to everyone who has helped the Third Men Podcast continue to grow and thrive these past 150 episodes. To our listeners, our guests, and the wonderful crew at Third Man Records, we owe a great debt of gratitude - and we look forward to paying it forward when we return for season 6 this September!
