On this Tuesday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, terrible news comes out of Nashville, Tennessee, with another school shooting occurring at a local Catholic elementary school. Three adults and three little kids were shot and killed by a lunatic in full-fledged combat equipment. Sid, while recapping the incident, once again makes it abundantly clear that guns are not to blame for the incident, and the real problem we have here in the United States is with murderous psychopaths and not with automatic weapons. Hour 1: We're in the holiday spirit despite the atrocious performance by the Jets last night. Boomer and Gio are having a hard time getting through this - not the Jets loss, but Big Zoo dressed up in studio as Santa and Anthony Gallo next to him as an elf. Boomer says after last night he has seen the light: Zach Wilson doesn't belong on an NFL field. Gio says Wilson sucks all of the life out of the team because his teammates hate him. Boomer says take what Robert Saleh says with a grain of salt because he is just trying to protect the team and his players. Boomer goes over all of the reasons why watching Zach Wilson is frustrating and why he doesn't deserve to play again. Gio explains why Saleh was also brutal last night. He adds that Zach Wilson is an “energy vampire”. Gio enjoyed Jerry bringing up a 2020 NFL mock draft during the warm-up show to illustrate how Zach Wilson wasn't on many people's radars until right before the draft. Jerry has sound from Robert Saleh and Zach Wilson who both sound totally lost. In happier news, the Yankees introduced Carlos Rodon yesterday. Plus, Scott Boras describes how happy Carlos Correa was when they came to an agreement with Steve Cohen. Boras made a corny joke in typical Scott Boras fashion and made all of these Mets comments from Yankee Stadium. Trevor Bauer has been reinstated and Gio says maybe he'll follow Deshaun Watson to the Browns. The Rangers beat the Islanders in their final matchup of the regular season. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer and Gio say two things ended last night. The Jets playoff chances and the Zach Wilson era. Who is to blame for the Jets falling apart? Hour 2: Hour two begins with Gio saying if Zach Wilson ends up being successful in the NFL down the road, it won't be here. On one drive Gio was able to tell Zach Wilson was coming back onto the field just from hearing the crowd noise. Boomer says it's better for everyone if Zach Wilson and the Jets part ways. One caller tries to defend Zach Wilson and Gio isn't having any of it. Jerry returns for an update and we compare Zach Wilson's stats to JaMarcus Russell's. They're bad. Players who say fans don't know what they go through don't understand what fans go through, and go through long after the players move on. Why do news network's cover flights being delayed or canceled in bad weather? We know the drill. Brian Cashman is excited about his rotation after introducing Carlos Rodon. In the final segment of the hour, Gio says he doesn't believe Robert Saleh that we'll see Zach Wilson again. The Jets know they have a good team and will add a veteran QB next year. Boomer agrees and thinks Mike White will be part of that QB room. Is Jimmy Garoppolo an option or does he get hurt too much? Gio reads some of Fliegs's tweets as he was destroying Zach Wilson on Thursday night.   Hour 3: Gio asks Boomer if Robert Saleh takes a hit for not winning with a bad QB situation and Boomer says it's the opposite. He deserves credit for benching Zach Wilson, who is only playing because of Mike White's injury. Boomer says the extra attention is part of playing the position. He wanted Zach Wilson to play over Joe Flacco but saw the young QB miss throws and make bad decisions. Now there's no way the Jets can bring him back. Gio says that while Wilson deserves most of the blame, the coaches share some of the responsibility. Could Robert Saleh have saved the season weeks ago by benching Zach Wilson during the second loss to the Patriots? Possibly. Now they can't score against defenses that give up a ton of points. Gio wouldn't even have Zach Wilson travel with the team for the last two games. Jerry returns for an update and Gio says Jets fans have unfortunately seen this film before. Boomer and Gio both can't believe the Jets pushed their fans to the point of “We want Streveler” chants. Robert Saleh said he didn't bench Zach Wilson and Gio says Wilson absolutely was benched. Gio feels good about the Vikings this week against the Giants but is still worried about a potential playoff rematch. Jerry has audio of a Scott Boras joke that Gio says is even worse than the one we heard earlier in the show. Gio gives us a glimpse of Gerard Gallant singing Christmas songs. In the final segment of the hour, Gio previews Giants vs Vikings. He thinks the matchup is a bad one for the Giants on paper. The fortunes of the Jets and Giants have really flipped drastically in the last few weeks. Hour 4: The final hour begins with more discussion of the Jets debacle on Thursday night. The Jets were awful against the Jaguars, who look pretty good with Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson. Boomer says Joe Douglas has to be floored by how quickly this all fell apart. Boomer tries to get Gallo to wear his elf costume on a date tonight and someone called out Boomer this morning. The Jets and Zach Wilson stunk up MetLife stadium on Thursday night and now the Jets are all but dead. It's time for week 16 picks. If Yussef comes back to win, Boomer and Gio will take him to Phoenix for the Super Bowl.

A brand new season on the gridiron begins and plenty of other sports stories to dive into as we get ready for a third podcast this week, detailing all of the latest. On deck: (5:20) The NFL is back! I'll preview the upcoming season, dissect the major storylines, breakdown the divisions, my predictions for over/under win totals, a knockout pick, take a look at the Week 1 schedule, and of course, my Super Bowl pick as we raise the curtain on the 2022 campaign. I'll also peek at the Week 2 college football schedule, which is a rather quiet one at first glance. (46:47) Some intensity has surprisingly seeped into the pennant races as the Mets were caught by the Braves, but not surpassed after a must doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Pirates. The Orioles wild card chances look to be on life support after losing three out of four to the Blue Jays. The Yankees have found their tonic (i.e. the Twins) as Aaron Judge continues his torrid home run pace. The president of the Bombers, Randy Levine, has called Judge "an all-time Yankee". What does this mean as his impending free agency will be the talk of the town once a champion is crowned? (52:56) An epic five set, five hour and fifteen minute match that lasted until 2:50am in which Carlos Alcaraz advances in the US Open. Will he have enough tank in the gas to beat an American upstart in Frances Tiafoe? As for the women's side, Iga Swiatek looks to have an inside track on winning her second major of the year. Or will she be upset along the way? (56:16) Lakers guards Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley are in the honeymoon phase in Los Angeles as both players have mended fences after their long standing feud on the court. Will this continue to last? The ALL ME® Podcast Suicide Squeeze:  Bill Kashatus Did you know that there was a book that was written about Taylor Hooton?  In this podcast we had a chance to interview the author, Bill Kashatus, who wrote “Suicide Squeeze:  Taylor Hooton, Rob Garibaldi, and the Fight against Teenage Steroid Abuse.” During this interview you're going to learn more about why Bill is so passionate about history, teaching, writing and coaching.  He has such an incredible background that his life story which lead to writing a book about Taylor Hooton will keep you captivated.  Taylor's brother, Don Jr., hosts this episode and it was the first time he had been part of a book, which he will share his experience with us about what it was like. Bill is going to take us through what it was like meeting the Hooton and Garibaldi family.  You will hear him talk about why this was the hardest book he's had to write, and he's written a lot of books.  The book is one that all parents and high school students should take a moment to read.  Kashatus does a great job of taking a very complex topic and writing in a way that it's understandable to any audience.  Below you will find some of the links that were mentioned in this podcast if you'd like to learn how to pick up a copy of “Suicide Squeeze”. Publishers Summary: Appearance- and performance-enhancing drugs - specifically, anabolic steroids (APEDs) - provide a tempting competitive advantage for amateur baseball players. But this shortcut can exact a fatal cost on talented athletes. In his urgent book Suicide Squeeze, William Kashatus chronicles the experiences of Taylor Hooton and Rob Garibaldi, two promising high school baseball players who abused APEDs in the hopes of attracting professional scouts and Division I recruiters. However, as a result of their steroid abuse, they ended up taking their own lives. In Suicide Squeeze - named for the high-risk play in baseball to steal home - Kashatus identifies the symptoms and dangers of steroid use among teens. Using archival research and interviews with the Hooton and Garibaldi families, he explores the lives and deaths of these two young men, the impact of their suicides on MLB, and the ongoing fight against adolescent APED use by their parents. A passionate appeal to prevent additional senseless deaths by athletes, Suicide Squeeze is an important contribution to debates on youth and sports and on public policy. The book is published by Temple University Press. Critic Reviews: “A must-read for all parents and for everyone interested in the integrity of sports.” (Rob Manfred, Commissioner of Baseball) “Every young person who reads this book represents a life potentially saved.” (Randy Levine, president, New York Yankees, and board Member, Taylor Hooton Foundation)  “An outstanding book that should be read by anyone who has or will have a connection with young people who play sports. Suicide Squeeze reads like a novel and instructs like a textbook.” (Richard P. Episode #13 begins with a personal tale from Steve’s college days and proceeds to one of the most bizarre episodes in baseball history, the O’Connell-Dolan affair during the 1924 National League stretch drive. It’s a scandal that has echoes in a present-day controversy. Jesse enters with sitcoms on his mind, but in short order the subject turns to various trade and pennant race scenarios, Yoenis Cespedes, Daniel Murphy, the Royals, Cubs, and, finally, a near nervous breakdown when Jesse is forced to think of Yankees executive Randy Levine.
