It's season nine, bitches!! Your Blue Balls Boys are Back in Action for the ninth season of the perennial blue bruisers at the New York City Football Club. And what a season we have lined up -- full of twists, turns, and sisyphean tasks as New York embarks on its quest to keep a talented roster and a franchise-favorite coach from suffering the indignities of a rebuild season. And what did we start with? a 2-0 loss to Nashville of course! Jake and Trey talk over the key points and the chat everyone wants to have about positional woes new and old. Then: a Brad Sims interview, a welcome-home gala, a collab with Tim Cook, and a Sand-inista returns. Don't drive through any construction zones - you've got Blue Balls.
This week, the city and the New York City Football Club reached an agreement to build the city's first ever soccer stadium in Willets Point, Queens. The massive plan will also include 2,500 units of affordable housing, a hotel and retail space. The $780 million stadium is being paid for entirely by the soccer team, but will need to go through the land-use approval. NY1's Zack Fink, Courtney Gross and Juan Manuel Benítez break down the surprisingly controversy-free situation, and look at how it could affect the city in the years to come. Additionally, after Democrats in New York lose four congressional seats, which helped give Republicans control of the House of Representatives, a blame game has been underway. State Party Chairman Jay Jacobs has been taking a significant amount of heat for not doing enough to get out the vote. The team takes a look at what is really happening within the party, and if Jacobs is truly to blame. We want to hear from you, especially what you think about the new soccer stadium deal. It's November and MLS playoffs are in full swing -- and none other than the New York City Football Club is on their way to the Eastern Conference Semifinals after a massive 2-0 victory at home against Atlanta. Jake & Trey are here to break it all down for you, including Taty's skipper to open the gates, Rob Vartughian's secret set piece sauce, the gruesome death by suffocation of George Bello, missing (and missed) pigeons on the field, and the Deila mentality at the top of it all. Then: USMNT wins and draws, some offhand Champions chat, and other league action. And finally: can we do it again, but, uh, better? Bruce Arena's titanic New England is waiting for us on the other side of ThanksWeekend and a December game in Massachusetts is no walk in Central Park. Don't move a MUSCLE - you've got Blue Balls.

With a familiar face back in the line-up and a growing number of the faithful in the stands, LAFC bounced back in style against the Colorado Rapids. In this episode of the Heart of LAFC Podcast, we’ll break down the match that was, cover club news, and preview our next challenge at home against the New York City Football Club. Stay Golden!
In the sixth match of the season, Los Angeles Football Club (2-2-2) opened a four-game home stand with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Carlos Vela played 60 very important minutes for the black and gold, but it was a first half brace from Diego Rossi that lifted LAFC back into the win column. The back line bent at times, no more so than in the transitional sequence that allowed the Rapids goal in the opening stages of the second half, but the LAFC defense was able to ride the game out and maintain the lead through the final whistle in another positive performance. The win marked what LAFC hopes is the beginning of a very successful home stand; Bob Bradley was bullish in this week's media day about the club's desire to capture six points over two matches. However, in order to do so, LAFC will have to defeat a team that it has yet to win against in its short history. LAFC and New York City Football Club have only met in two league matches over LAFC's first three seasons. Both matches ended in 2-2 draws during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. In 2021, NYCFC marches on Banc of California Stadium as the top offense in the eastern conference by measure of scoring; NYCFC's 11 goals are tied for 3rd in MLS, behind only Seattle (14) and Sporting Kansas City (12). The boys in blue have also surrendered only 6 goals so far this season, so the team represents a legitimate challenge for LAFC on both sides of the pitch. In this seventh episode of the 2021 season, writers-at-Large Alex Dwyer and Ryan Wallerson, alongside in-house tactician Pierce Maher, breakdown LAFC's victory over the Colorado Rapids in the first of this four-match home stand, preview this weekend's matchup against NYCFC, and talk a little east coast supporter culture at the end.

The New York City Football Club won the Eastern Conference regular season championship for the first time in the five-year history of the club. As the top seed, NYCFC earned a playoff bye in the opening round but were foiled in the conference semifinals by Toronto FC. The coach who guided City to the franchise's best season may now be on his way out. In his post-game press conference, Dome Torrent intimated that the Toronto match could very well have been his final match with the club. When he was asked if he had a desire to return for the 2020 season, Torrent was not vague with his response. “It’s not important. They are ready for another coach." Pro Soccer USA's Glenn Crooks is the radio voice of New York City FC and has followed the club both home, away and at their weekly training sessions. He will share Torrent's comments and welcome in the TV commentator for the team on the YES Network, Joe Tolleson. Torrent told Tolleson after the loss to Toronto FC, "That is soccer. Good luck next year." Crooks will also be joined by Tom Scholes, author of the new book, "Stateside Soccer" - a thorough history of the soccer origins in the states with a close-up look at both Major League Soccer and New York City FC.

The most important result in Dome Torrent’s brief tenure as head coach of the New York City Football Club came on April 24 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. It was week eight of Major League Soccer and the boys in blue had yet to record a victory and Torrent’s job security was in question. City won that match in convincing style, 2-0 – part of what is currently an 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Audi Field will be the venue for New York City’s Round of 16 match in the 106-year old U.S. Open Cup – the Pigeons recording their first win in the competition last week against North Carolina FC. Because of injuries and international call-ups, Anton Tinnerholm, normally an outside back, played at center back for the first time since he was 15 years old in that match. Torrent and Tinnerholm spoke to Pro Soccer USA’s Glenn Crooks about the run in the U.S. Open Cup and the earlier success against D.C. United. “There were a couple of times he (center back Sebastian Ibeagha) had to scream at me – I really wanted to go forward. That was the biggest challenge for me.” – Anton Tinnerholm on his adjustment from wing back to center back. “When I want to change the system or move some players, normally I will speak to the players when I have any doubt. I respect their opinion.” – Dome Torrent on the necessity of change in the midst of injuries and international call-ups.
If you watch a lot of soccer on TV, then you will recognize the voice of Jon Champion. He has called games for over 30 years and is currently the lead play-by-play voice for MLS matches on ESPN. In this On Frame, Champion speaks to Pro Soccer USA’s Glenn Crooks about his career and assesses the current state of New York City FC following his broadcast of their match at Minnesota United last weekend. Among those in attendance at the opening of Allianz Field, City Football Group executive Brian Marwood – a former co-commentator with Champion in England. Champion visited with Marwood and said that the man in charge of CFG’s satellite teams will stay and watch two more matches for the winless Pigeons – Sunday at D.C. United and Wednesday versus the Chicago Fire. “I think it is significant that he’s around taking a look a what’s going on.” - ESPN commentator Jon Champion in regard to City Football Group executive Brian Marwood who is in the states and will observe a total of three matches for the winless New York City Football Club.
Los Angeles Football Club drew an interesting match 2-2 against New York City Football Club on March 17th, 2019.
A very special show this week, as Rick is joined by MVP David Villa, forward and Team Captain for New York City Football Club to talk soccer, his dedication to lifting up the league and the Next Big Thing

Hi everyone and welcome to the New York City Football Club Fan Podcast. Who am I? Well I'm your host, Andrés Emilio Soto, a real estate agent in NYC and a season ticket holder who sits in Section 205, so come say hi! This podcast is by fans and for fans. I want you to voice your opinion, give feedback, provide your thoughts about NYCFC and to have fun while doing this. To leave a message visit NYCFCPodcast.com/talk. Now on to today's show. Recap Corner Boy do I hate being right in this scenario. In front of a sold out crowd of 27,545 fans NYCFC came up a goal short in their one zero loss to Sporting Kansas City. New York City Football Club's first loss of the season now drops them down to 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, tied with Orlando City SC at 5 points. NYCFC was without forward David Villa, midfielder Sebastian Velasquez and defender Josh Williams due to injury. Furthermore forwards Khiry Shelton and Adam Nemec were unavailable due to international call ups. The lone goal came from a thrown in by Sporting KC's Captain, Matt Besler, which was targeted for the head of the rushing Ike Opara's head who struck the ball like lightning. This time around Josh Saunders was not able to make a save. From my point of view it seemed like Sporting Kansas City's strategy in the first half was to stuff NYCFC on their half of the field basically using the smaller Yankee Stadium field as a disadvantage. Every time NYCFC had the ball it appeared they could not get out of the half line mark. The Club either lobbed the ball too far, made erroneous passes or lost control of the ball. It wasn't until late in the first half that NYCFC started to find some open space and they played a much better and fluid game in the second half yet missed key shots on goal. Next up for NYCFC is an away Match against the Philadelphia Union on April 11th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTteLtc3Njc Analysis Corner Matt Reed appears on the show and we discuss the following: Recap/ Analysis of the game against Sporting Kansas City How our team adapted to not have key starters such as David Villa. If you want to send an email write to info@nycpodcast.com or leave a voicemail by clicking the blue button on the ride side of our website NYCFCPodcast.com. Any reviews, comments or predictions about New York City Football Club will be played on the podcast. Recap Corner Wow. What a way to start the season. First a tie playing away against Orlando City SC and today a win at home against the New England Revolution. This is truly NYCFC History in the making as a little over 43,000 were in attendance on a very cold and windy Sunday at Yankee Stadium. NYCFC started the game much faster, compared to their first match, when with just four minutes on the clock Andrew Jacobson fed David Villa who then passed to a wide open Adam Nemec. Nemec did not strike the ball with enough force and was blocked by New England Revolution goalie Bobby Shuttleworth. Though with that momentum and the great fans cheering and chanting for NYCFC, David Villa scored a goal in the 19th minute thanks to a give and go with Ned Grabavoy. New England Revolution stepped up their game after that goal and missed a few opportunities to tie. The biggest chance came around the 41st minute when a direct header by Juan Agudelo found Josh Saunders' arms at the right place and time. Saunders then was was able to scramble and stop the ball from slowly crossing the goal line. The goal that sealed the game came in the 84th minute when David Villa rushed down the left side of the field and after some witty footwork made a simple cross to find a sliding Patrick Mullins on the back post. Mullins was only on the pitch for about a minute after he replaced Nemec. Oddly enough Mullins was drafted by the New England Revolution last year. It was awesome to see this first home game end with a two zero score. Fan Message Corner Jose Quintana: As the season unfolds, I believe Shelton will become an automatic starter. I see him as the future face of the franchise. Assuming things start well, how do you see the arrival of Frank Lampard effecting the roster? NYCFC drafted Shelton with their first round pick, pick #2 overall and within the first two games you can see why. When he entered into the second half in week one against Orlando SC, he gave the team a sudden boost in speed and actually could of had an assist during his first few minutes if Nemec didn't miss the shot. In the game against New England he also came in on the second half and again contributed immediately. Within the first few minutes, Shelton sprinted down the right flank and was tripped right before the penalty box drawing a foul, and more importantly a red card. That free kick was then taken by David Villa who just missed the left upright by about a foot. I think the major weakness Shelton has is his inability to move laterally to his left. It seems he's either moves forward or towards his right. But he's a rookie, only has two pro games under his belt and certainly has the tools and stature to improve his overall game. So now, from a rookie to a veteran, I'm not too excited about Lampard joining us. It has nothing to do with preseason drama but it has more to do with my happiness with our current midfield scenario. Though The season just started, there are no injuries and those injuries will come, it's inevitable, it's part of the game.! Lampard would be a great addition for the teams depth but he wasn't brought here to come off the bench. I hope that when he does join us in June he'll be eased in slowly to learn our style of play, which is still a work in progress. He's a class player and I'm sure he'll mix well with our squad. That's my opinion. What's your opinion on Juan's question? Do you think Shelton will be and what are your thoughts on Lampard joining? Predictions Corner I predict that NYCFC will beat Colorado at a score of 2 to 1, come form behind Podcast Links Why is NYCFC such an easy target? http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/2015/03/why-is-nycfc-such-an-easy-target.html David Villa is fun, dominant, and downright perfect for MLS http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2015/3/16/8225343/david-villa-is-fun-dominant-and-downright-perfect-for-mls Resources Mentioned in this Episode Great clip below to see David Villa's first goal as a member of NYCFC thanks to @nycfc.lovers on Instagram http://iconosquare.com/p/941524631496072443_1753201702 Thanks to Jimmy T for these amazing clips!
