//The Wire//2300Z May 8, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: INDIA PAKISTAN SHELLING OF BORDER REGION CONTINUES, FEW CASUALTIES REPORTED. AX ATTACK STRIKES WARSAW. IED DETONATED AT CATHOLIC CHURCH IN PENNSYLVANIA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Poland: Yesterday afternoon an assailant conducted an ax attack at the University of Warsaw. One woman was beheaded during the attack, and a security guard was seriously wounded. The attacker was detained at the scene.AC: As is common throughout Europe, the identity of the attacker has not been released and all photos of the assailant have so far been censored to protect his identity.Vatican City: This morning a new Pope was elected. Cardinal Robert Prevost was selected to become Pope, taking the name of Leo XIV. -HomeFront-Pennsylvania: Yesterday a man was arrested for detonating an IED inside the Rectory at St. Teresa Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City on Tuesday. Authorities arrested Kyle Kuczynski the next day after he was identified via security camera footage. The explosive device caused significant damage to the altar, and several windows were blown out due to the explosion.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In Pakistan and India, sporadic fighting has remained constant over the past few days, though efforts by both sides fall short of what most would consider a war. Random drone attacks by both sides have taken place throughout Kashmir and along the border regions in both countries. Heavy artillery barrages have remained constant since this whole affair began, however few (if any) casualties have been reported by either side due to this shelling. At the moment, casualty figures are impossible to verify with any shred of accuracy, but the numbers have been extremely low compared to the intense fighting being reported. So far, less than 50x fatal casualties have been reported on all sides, including instances of Civilian Casualties (CIVCAS) which make up the bulk of casualties right now. Most of the videos being posted to social media are either AI-generated or (more commonly) are of random conflicts around the world. This afternoon, some local media sources claim that India has opened the sluice gates to at least one dam that was previously restricting the flow of water into Pakistan. If this is true, this is very likely a de-escalatory action that is probably intended to reduce the severity of whatever limited counterattack Pakistan has in mind. Regarding that expected counterattack, so far it's hard to determine if any such action has occurred beyond the clashes along the border.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT//

MDJ Script/ Top Stories for June 27th Publish Date: June 27th Commercial: From the Ingles Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Thursday, June 27th and Happy 53rd Birthday to actor Chris O'Donell. ***06.27.24 – BIRTHDAY – CHRIS O'DONNELL*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Saint Joseph Catholic Church Breaks Ground on New Rectory Red Roof Inns Settles Sex Trafficking Lawsuit Involving Smyrna Location Cobb Elections Explores Charging for Voter Challenges Plus, Bruce Jenkins sits down with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on Laura Lynn Products. All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Saint Joseph Catholic Church Breaks Ground on New Rectory Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new rectory, replacing its historic but damaged former building. The original rectory, dating back to the mid-19th century, was demolished due to mold, asbestos, and water damage from burst pipes in 2022. Construction on the new rectory is set to begin July 1, expected to finish by summer 2025 at an estimated cost of $1.2 million. Funded by a $6 million capital campaign, the project will also add parking spaces and a soccer field. The new rectory will accommodate four priests with modern amenities and enhanced privacy, aiming to support the church's vibrant community. STORY 2: Red Roof Inns Settles Sex Trafficking Lawsuit Involving Smyrna Location Red Roof Inns has reached a confidential settlement with eleven plaintiffs who alleged they were sex trafficked at its hotels in Smyrna and Atlanta. The federal lawsuit, which began trial on June 11, accused Red Roof of profiting from sex trafficking by turning a blind eye to activities at their properties. The hotel chain denied wrongdoing but settled after plaintiffs testified and the defense began presenting its case. This marked the first sex trafficking lawsuit against a national hotel brand to go to trial. Plaintiffs' attorneys emphasized the importance of their clients' stories being heard and raising awareness about sex trafficking. STORY 3: Cobb Elections Explores Charging for Voter Challenges The Cobb Board of Elections discussed potentially charging individuals who challenge voters' eligibility, following a contentious meeting where thousands of voter registrations were challenged by a resident. Eugene Williams challenged 2,472 registrations, prompting debate among board members. They decided, in a 4-1 vote along party lines, to only consider challenges to active voters going forward, reducing the workload on elections staff. The possibility of charging challengers like Williams for the cost of notifications was debated, with varying opinions among board members and legal perspectives shared. This issue arises amidst broader changes in Georgia election law under Senate Bill 189, which facilitates mass voter challenges and faces legal challenges from organizations like the ACLU. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We'll be right back. Break: DRAKE STORY 4: Cobb Approves Moratorium on Massage Parlor Licenses The Cobb Board of Commissioners has enacted a six-month moratorium on issuing licenses to massage parlors, or health spas, in response to rising concerns over illegal activities and code violations. This decision follows the denial of a license renewal for Wang's Feet due to a reported sexual assault and other violations. Cobb officials aim to strengthen regulations and enforcement before resuming licensing, citing ongoing challenges with illicit spa operations. Similar measures have been taken in nearby cities like Roswell to address issues such as human trafficking. Additionally, the commission approved funding for various projects including library furniture, a parks maintenance building, an emergency generator for the medical examiner lab, and road improvements. STORY 5: Out and About: 5 Things to Do This Weekend in Cobb County—June 28-30 This weekend offers a variety of events in the Marietta and Kennesaw areas. The Borley Rectory located outside of a small village near Suffolk is said to be one of the most haunted houses in Great Britain. With paranormal activity being witnessed by over a hundred different people and spanning 80 years, it is easy to see how the home has earned this title. Unfortunately, the rectory burnt down under mysterious and potentially supernatural circumstances in 1939. Although the building is gone, it is said that the hauntings still remain. From the BG Ad Group Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Friday, May 17th, and I'm Keith Ippolito. 'Bittersweet': Historic Marietta Rectory Razed Saint Joseph Catholic Church has embarked on a significant yet bittersweet demolition project that involved tearing down its historic rectory in Marietta. Nearly two centuries of history are being torn down as the rectory undergoes demolition due to severe safety concerns. Monsignor John Walsh highlighted that mold, asbestos, and lead had made the rectory unsafe for its residents and visitors. The damage, which dates back to Christmas Day 2022, was caused by a burst pipe that led to extensive water damage, forcing priests to relocate. Despite efforts from Cobb Landmarks to preserve the historical Sugar Hill House portion, the church decided to demolish the entire rectory. Built in 1852 and used as a field hospital during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, the rectory holds deep historical significance. Facing over $2 million in restoration costs, the church chose to build a new rectory for about $1.2 million instead. While the decision was difficult, Monsignor Walsh emphasized that safety was paramount. For more news about our community, visit mdjonline.com. //The Wire//1900Z April 1, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: CANADA'S EUTHANASIA PROGRAM QUIETLY EXPANDS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Canada: A judge has ruled that Canada's state-sponsored euthanasia program can be applied to individuals without a debilitating illness. Last Thursday, a judge ruled that a healthy 27-year-old woman can participate in Canada's euthanasia program. AC: The individual's father has so far unsuccessfully attempted to convince the court that his daughter is not of sound mind, and is therefore unable to make decisions for herself. Even the judge himself noted that the woman “has not provided ANY evidence…(to justify her actions)…nor has she identified her medical condition or provided information concerning her symptoms and how they cause her to suffer”. However, despite the judge's own words, the regulations already set in law, and legal precedent on the case, the judge approved the woman's request to take part in Canada's state-sponsored euthanasia program.-HomeFront-Tennessee: An arson incident occurred at the Global Vision Bible Church in Wilson County at around 6:00 am Easter Sunday. A metal trailer filled with Holy Bibles was set on fire outside the front entrance of the church. Local authorities confirm the incident was intentional, and an investigation is underway.New York: A Five-Alarm fire broke out at the Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii Church in Brooklyn. The fire broke out during Easter Mass, and mostly consumed the Rectory.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Prior to the judgement in Canada, Canada's national euthanasia program applied to those with terminal illnesses, diseases, or disabilities. The program began in 2016, and has steadily been applied to increasing demographics of people. In February the planned expansion of the program to include persons suffering only from a mental illness was paused, due to the healthcare system not being able to handle the increased administrative burden to process the expected volume of euthanasia victims at the current time. It is not immediately clear as to how this recent judgement will apply to the program; at face value this is a de factor expansion of the program, quietly implemented as legal precedent so as to give the appearance that the program's expansion has been halted. In 2022, over 13,000 Canadians were euthanized under this program, a 31.2% increase from the previous year.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Since the early 1800's, tenants have reported strange bumps in the night at the residence of Borley Rectory. Objects mysteriously move and doors lock on their own, scrawled writing appears on walls of empty rooms, a centuries-old nun walks the misty gardens, and long-dead residents seem to cozy up in their former bedrooms. The hauntings spanned generations until our old pal Harry Price came to town and put the Rectory through his psychical research tests… would Borley pass? We also hear about wage labor, class identity, and the role education can play in building better societies. You've heard the expression, if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. Well, meet a couple of 92 year old priests still saying Mass and loving the ministry. Our Fr. Joe Grimaldi is 82 and is the pastor of a large church. How do they do it?
Do you ever read about something that makes you so mad because you weren't taught it in school? Or maybe you were, but it was taught in this "well, that happened on this date" with no discussion or further inquiry? Well, your hosts At the Rectory had some questions about history, and thankfully we have our neighborhood Historian Katie at the ready! We believe that asking questions and being curious play a huge part of healing and changing the world. Stay tuned at the end when our sound-engineer, David Lai, hops on and gives us his perspective! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/anne-rothhaas/message
There are many people that work in the Rectory to support the life of the parish, and Victoria Ramos is one of them. It's a behind the scenes kind of work with little recognition. Join us as we talk about her faith journey, and learn about some of the things she does for the parish. Let's Talk Parish is co-produced by Rex Rallanka, Titi Kila, and Chris Jensen. The theme music is “Live and Be Happy” by Valentina Gribanova. Our host is Chris Jensen. Ever just avoid that weird book at the end of the Bible? Or have you ever listened to someone preach about how all the signs and symbols point to current events and map out how the End Times will Come? Ever watch Left Behind? Even if the answer to all of the above is, Nope! - you should stick around for this chat with the lovely celebrated author Dean Flemming! His new book "Foretaste of the Future: Reimagining Revelation" is all about changing how Evangelicals have often read and interpreted Revelation. Dean has worked globally and just retired from teaching at MidAmerica Nazarene University - and you can tell he has a heart for people and students in particular. You are not going to want to miss this amazing conversation at the Rectory this week! In a time when relationships are breaking because of political differences, our guest this week calls us to practice compassion and patience with people who we just cannot agree with! We are joined by Jennifer Clark who has spent the last 20 years working in politics. And boy, O boy do we dig into how controversial and almost 'dirty' politics feels these days. Katie asks "what could be polarizing about dogs??" and Jennifer happily takes us on a stroll through the complexities of her work, and balancing emotion, evidence, and compassion every day! And stay till the end for the literal sweetest sign off! We are so happy to have you At the Rectory! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/anne-rothhaas/message
Shall we say that Pastor Meg is our unofficial pastor of At the Rectory? We know you love her and so she is back to chat with us about what it even looks like to Pastor in these 'anxious times' -- Welcome Megan Trischler! The last time we had Megan on, she wasn't quite sure what her next adventure would be. She felt called to ministry after her design job came to an end, but the question was WHO and WHERE would she minister? Within months of our last conversation Megan was officially invited on staff at University Christian Church, located near the University of Cincinnati! So we catch up with what her life looks like now, and reflect on how important it is to just be present with each other and with God. As any good pastor, Meg turns the tables on us and asks Katie and Anne some questions, too! Stick around towards to end to hear more about the "Theology of Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!" --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/anne-rothhaas/message
We are joined by our friends bringing their friends to the podcast today! Kyle Sondereker connected us with the fabulous Isaiah Hunt and we got to chat about why we love stories, Afrofuturism, and challenging a Eurocentric story structure! As fiction continues to become reality (with all our technological advancements), more than ever the world we create in sci-fi fantasy could become our future. And we believe that it is that imagination and ingenuity that can help solve some of the major issues our cultures face today. And in the middle of geeking out over DnD and our favorite Anime, we have a great discussion about the history of colonialism and the ways that 'myth-making' can be damaging - like Manifest Destiny and White Supremacy. So, join us for this wild ride, on this week's episode of At the Rectory!
