Episode 116 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is all about water fasting and how it can be so beneficial to your health and wellness. This is a special episode because I will reveal to you my three-day water fasting protocol that I do several times per year.Water fasting delivers profound benefits, from activating your immune system and stem cells to getting rid of cellular garbage, and so much more. Now, if you know anything about the Fit Mother Project, you know that intermittent fasting is a regular recommendation. A 24-hour fast is great because it's something you can do every single week. You have dinner one day, then just drink water, coffee, and/or green tea until dinner the next day. You can get even more benefits the longer you fast, but that's not always easy to do!So, I feel that a three-day fast is a sweet spot between getting maximum benefits without it being a super long and challenging fast. I know what you're thinking: a three-day water fast sounds crazy. But, people water fast for 7, 10 days, and there's even a case study of a man who water fasted for an entire year! The point is the body can survive water fasting, and for most people, it's not detrimental to their health. So, fasting is appropriate for people who want to lose weight or improve their health. However, it is unsafe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or anyone with a history of any eating disorder. Also, people who are on medication to manage diabetes or blood sugar, or if they need to take certain medications with food, should not fast. Ready to learn more about water fasting? Then you've got to check out this episode! In this episode, you'll learn: The massive benefits of water fasting. The science and research behind water fasting. How fasting makes your body more resilient and higher functioning. The dos and don'ts of fasting. One of the most fundamental and primal stresses is temperature. That's why, every morning after I hydrate, I do a three-minute cold plunge in a cold tub my friend built me out of a big chest freezer. And that's what I want you to consider — getting yourself a cold plunge or at least taking some cold showers so you can see the health advantages of cold exposure. The first thing that happens when you expose your body to cold is you get a stronger immune system. It has been well documented that the white blood cells that are the champions of our immune system increase in a good, healthy way when exposed to cold. So if you're looking at maximizing your immune strength, you've got to listen to this episode. It's not just about nutrition, sleeping, and exercise … cold exposure is one of the best things you can do for a stronger immune system. And that's just the tip of the iceberg (see what I did there?) regarding the myriad health benefits of cold exposure! In this episode, you'll learn: The massive benefits of cold exposure. How it improves your body's stress response. How to become more stress resilient. The keys to decreasing inflammation.Improving your physical performance and recovery. And so much more! So, if you want to get the most from your health and fitness efforts, listen to this episode on cold exposure, take some notes, and check out FF30X!What is FF30X?FF30X is a simple, sustainable, and specific weight loss program that is designed especially for busy men over 40. Episode 58 of the Fit Mother Project Podcast continues our talk about systems thinking and how to crush your goals, not just this month or next month but well into the future! As we discussed in Part 1, systems thinking is a holistic mindset that interconnects every aspect of your life. You (mind, body, and soul) are a system, as is your family, community, city, state, and country. When we look at ourselves as a series of systems, and understand every part within them, we can make better decisions, stay focused and motivated, and conquer any goal we set.Your body is a dynamic, interconnected system — trillions of cells, gut bacteria, thoughts, emotions, etc., all of it is connected. The pressures of work, family, and life are constantly interacting with your goals, desires, and habits, but when you can see the bigger picture, you can create a more robust system that gets you better results in the short term and sustains those results in the long term. If you missed Part 1, definitely go back and check it out!But even if you don't, this episode will give you massive value, as we apply this idea that you are an interconnected dynamic being to the different stages that we move through on our health and fitness journey. So no matter what stage you're at in your journey, whether you're just starting or a Fit Mother veteran, you'll love this conversation! In this episode, you'll learn: How to get started and/or find your motivation. How to face temptations and setbacks.Dealing with changing relationships. How to keep the positive momentum rolling.Ways to keep reinventing yourself and finding new goals. And so much more! So, if you want to get the most from your health and fitness efforts, listen to this episode on systems thinking, take some notes, and and check out FM30X! Episode 112 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is all about the keto diet and what you need to know and understand about it.The ketogenic diet is a very low carbohydrate diet, and it's different from what we recommend in our Fit Father Project meal plans. We don't think it's the most optimal approach for most middle-aged people who want to live healthily and have a sustainable lifestyle over the long haul. All the calories that are in foods come from three main macronutrients: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The keto diet basically eliminates carbohydrates from the diet, so the calories you're getting come from proteins and fats. The keto diet also doesn't allow any high-sugar or highly processed foods, so a lot of people end up feeling healthier and lose a lot of weight, so they feel like it's a really good solution. The problem is, and this is my overall diet perspective, is any diet that's restrictive from the get-go is going to cause friction in the long term. And things that cause friction in the long term are going to set you up for derailing your progress. Now, I am all for eating a lower carbohydrate diet, particularly if you're cutting out a lot of bad carbs like processed sugars and grains that don't have much nutritional value. But, the Fit Father Project meal plans intentionally include carbs because of a few key reasons. We discuss those reasons — and so much more — in this episode. It's time to learn the TRUTH about keto!In this episode, you'll learn: What the keto diet is and what its goals are.The importance of a healthy, functioning metabolism — and how to achieve it.How to become insulin sensitive and metabolically flexible. The science of intermittent fasting. The importance of sleep and hydration. And so much more! So, if you want to get the most from your health and fitness efforts, listen to this episode on the keto diet, take some notes, and check out FF30X!What is FF30X?FF30X is a simple, sustainable, and specific weight loss program that is designed especially for busy men over 40. Episode 104 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is all about vitamin E, a vitamin that many of us have heard of, but not many of us know what it actually does. In this episode, you'll meet Dr. Barrie Tan, a trailblazer and the world's foremost expert on vitamin E. His research expertise includes lipid-soluble nutrients (carotenoids, E vitamers, CoQ10, and omega-3s) that impact chronic conditions. He was the first to introduce tocotrienols benefits to the nutrition industry and developed the first-ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto. Beyond tocotrienol, Dr. Tan's research now spans into geranylgeraniol, a critical endogenous nutrient for healthy aging. Dr. Tan has found that vitamin E is one of the keys to actually reducing inflammation in the body and protecting all of the special fats in our bodies. As Dr. Tan explains in this episode, all of the cells in our bodies are surrounded by these special fats, and the right kinds of vitamin E actually help protect those fats that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions. As Dr. Tan is the world's foremost expert on this stuff, this is an amazing conversation you won't want to miss! In this episode, you'll learn: The profound health benefits of vitamin E. How it might be key to anti-aging and longevity. The special form of vitamin E that Dr. Tan identified in South America. How vitamin E and other compounds can help combat cancer, improve lipid and cholesterol levels, decrease fatty liver, reduce inflammation, and help reduce weight. And so much more! Episode 103 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is all about positive momentum and how small, little changes can lead to larger, significant ones. In this episode, you'll meet Tom, a husband, father, and the first-place winner of the 2022 Fit Father Project Transformation Contest. Every year, we have our Transformation Contest, where hundreds of guys sign up to not just lose weight, but also to align their lives physically, mentally, and spiritually. Tom was one of those guys and when he started, he weighed over 400 pounds. Now, he's under 300 and feeling better than he ever has in his life! But Tom didn't JUST lose over 100 pounds … he's also made profound changes — mentally, physically, and emotionally. His energy is higher, he's able to be there for his kids, and he's got positive momentum that's driving him forward in life. So if you're a “big guy,” you need to listen to Tom's story and know that losing weight is possible. Tom did it, and he was able to make it happen with small, simple changes that eventually led to big gains (and losses). And even if you're not a “big guy,” you still need to hear Tom's story. If he can lose over 100 pounds, you can lose 20 or 30 — doing the exact same things! In this episode, you'll learn: How Tom plans to lose the next 100 pounds. How to tweak your hydration, meal timing, and exercise over time. Building positive momentum. Finding your motivation. The importance of accountability. And so much more! So, if you want to get the most from your health and fitness efforts, listen to this episode on positive momentum, take some notes, and check out https://store.fitfatherproject.com/products/fit-father-30x-program-special (FF30X)!
