With the opening of Bar RBC in Bend, we return to our conversation with Garrett Peck from August of last year... following the opening of RBC... and the talk of what would become Bar RBC. Original Post: It's always a pleasure to have Garrett Peck on our podcast. For years, Garrett was at the center of the Portland food world as GM and host at some of Portland's most prolific restaurants. He managed the Heathman, later Headwaters, as well as The Paley Group's other hotel properties, Imperial, Rosa Rosa and The Crown. When turmoil of 2020 put beyond a damper on the viability of those restaurants, Garrett and his wife Jonie sought greener pastures, which led them to Sisters, OR. There, they connected with some of Portland's other most successful restaurateurs, who also found central Oregon more to their liking. In 2022, the three opened RBC (Rancher Butcher Chef) with other investors. Now with a year under their belts, RBC is lauded as one of the states most successful restaurants, outside of Portland. Garrett shares with us some of the joys of central Oregon life, as well as the growth of Bend as a living and dining destination. Listen to the end for some of his faves in the area. www.rbcbend.com.

It was only a few months ago that we originally released this episode featuring Kimberly and Vitaly Paley, talking about the closure of Paley's Place - but it doesn't get much bigger than the Paleys in the Portland food world. From January 2022: We're more than honored to have Vitaly and Kimberly Paley join us for the first interview of Right at the Fork's ninth year. The Paleys opened Paley's Place in 1995 and after so much recognition in and outside of the restaurant industry, they went on to own and operate Imperial, Portland Penny Diner, Crown Pizza, Headwaters and Rosa Rosa. With Beard nominations and wins, an Iron Chef victory, this duo didn't need to prove anything to anyone, except to do what was best by their employees and patrons--and now themselves. As the pandemic reared its ugly head on those hotel-based restaurants, they were left to tune and hone Paley's Place during a very tough time. This caused them to evaluate their lives, and we'll hear in this interview exactly how the decision to close the restaurant at the peak of their game came about. We talk about the health of the restaurant industry, what the Paleys are doing and plan on doing with the time they never had, whether they have plans to move from Portland, and best of all, their recipes for long-lasting love. Garrett Peck joins us on the podcast to discuss his new life and business in Bend. We talk about how the decision came about to close all the restaurants he co-owned and managed in Portland: Imperial, Rosa Rosa, Headwaters, Crown, and how he and his wife Jonie decided to move to Sisters, Oregon to start new lives and businesses. Not long after landing there, Garrett connected with John and Renee Gorham to develop Rancher Butcher Chef, which will open in the Spring of 2022. Garrett speaks first-hand about how the turmoil in downtown Portland was impossible to navigate and have a viable business. We also talk about Garrett's strong relationship with Vitaly and Kimberly Paley, having worked side by side with them for years in the Paley's empire. Lastly, you'll get Garrett's hidden gems in Bend to visit to eat and drink. Listen to the end for that!! Hey y'all. Welcome back to La Cresta life. Today, We're going to Santa Rosa West and other community here on the Santa Rosa Plateau. Stay tuned for all the goodies. So quiet out here Santa Rosa West has a number of things that make it really special while it's right here with the other associations. The thing that makes it different is said it's 10-acre minimums instead of 5. So what you end up with is a little bit more sprawling spread out ranches over here. You don't really have the Giant Oaks as much and you don't have the giant boulders. So it lends itself really well too beautiful a horse ranches and agriculture. Behind me is a house that was purchased several years ago by a lovely family and they planted a ton of olive trees. You'll see in the footage that I do from time to time that there's a lot of Olives going on between grapes and olives. It's almost replacing all of the agriculture up here and I'm going to show you this Ranch over here. This is an 80-acre horse Rehabilitation Ranch and I'll stop out in front will look at that in a minute. This is that horse Rehabilitation Ranch that I told you about. Since I've been here since 2002, It's been owned by a couple of people; One definitely was a rehabilitation facility and they work with thoroughbred and I'm not really sure what's going on with it. Now the horses seem to be gone but it is for sale. It's a beautiful property 82 acres and it has a racetrack. So we'll get a little footage of the racetrack and let you see that too. This is a really really special area. Obviously agriculture is a big part of what we do up here on the Santa Rosa Plateau. grapes, grapes and more grapes. We love our wine. We love our winemakers. Behind me is a tasting room. We are not allowed to have a commercial tasting room, so they're not open to the public, but there are several really good wine producers up here. There's a a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery sip on some wine and sometimes do a little dancing a little bit of music. We are so blessed. We have so much here, and this is just a little taste of it. What other amazing things about our communities up here on the Santa Rosa Plateau are are interconnecting recreational trails. They're very horse friendly they're foot friendly they're paw friendly, they're not motor friendly, but that's alright. They are wonderful and they go all around this Plateau for miles and miles and miles.

Hello Culture Clubbers, How was your week? Maggie appeared on Flex Mami’s podcast and Jasmine retrogressed to her 14-year-old self and bought the new Twilight book (as well as tackling its issue with Indigenous culture).Today we talk about classism in sustainable fashion. We chat about what time and financial barriers inhibit sustainable or secondhand shopping and why we shouldn’t shame people for purchasing fast fashion out of necessity. Both of us really enjoyed Maeve Kerr-Crowley’s piece on op-shopping as a size 18 in Fashion Journal. We recommend Sisters Studios, Rosa Rosa the Label, A.BCH and Maggie Marilyn as our more affordable ethical options.Jasmine’s recommendations for this week are the articles “Ellen DeGeneres’ Relatability Crisis” by Michael Shulman and “The problem with the Australian fashion industry’s tendency towards ‘ethnically ambiguous’ models” by oops, our very own Maggie Zhou. Maggie (half) recommends Zadie Smith’s debut novel, White Teeth. As always, our jingle, editing and production is by the talented @india_raine.
