Sermon Title(s): 1. Two gospels 2. The Mariner's gospel, 3. Jonah's GospelText: Jonah 11. This message was preached at New Christian life in Lebanon Tennessee.2. The gospel arguments remain consistent in every book and story of the bible.3. The bible is not about the characters that were recorded in it. Many stumble at the gospel because they tend to be fixated with the characters and miss the point.4. Thus, Jonah is not about how we should not disobey God by going to our own version of Tarshish.5. This is in being UNSKILLED in the word of God. The story is not about Jonah even. It is a testimony of the Lord Jesus.6. Tarshish was not a detour to Nineveh. IT was the way God wanted Jonah to go to Nineveh for the sake of developing the testimony of Christ.7. There are two "gospels" that are presented in this wonderful story. One according to the Mariners and the other according to Jonah. And you must listen to hear what those are.8. Also, there is very high sovereignty presented in this message, and everything considered, THIS IS A VERY TOP GOSPEL MESSAGE.And IT IS FREE
Jesus Calling Part 6: Little Power & an Open Door By Louie Marsh, 12-8-2024 Last slide – SWOT. 1) Jesus is Lord & in CONTROL. “7“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will sh ut, who shuts and no one opens.” (Revelation 3:7, ESV) 2) He knows how WEAK I really am. “8“ ‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” (Revelation 3:8, ESV) A Biblical Theme: · God uses the UNSKILLED. “32And David said to Saul, “Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 33And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.”” (1 Samuel 17:32–33, ESV) · God uses the WEAK. “9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9–10, ESV) 3) In the end everyone will ACKNOWLEDGE Jesus is Lord. “9Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.” (Revelation 3:9, ESV) “9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9–11, ESV) 4) Hold on to what God has ALREADY given you. “10Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. 11I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.” (Revelation 3:10–11, ESV) 5) In heaven I'll NEVER LOSE my closeness to God. “12The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.” (Revelation 3:12, ESV) “13He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'” (Revelation 3:13, ESV)
Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy
It's so easy to feel the disconnect in your marriage and wonder if things can ever truly align. Stu's story is a beautiful reminder that transformation is possible. Stu grew up feeling socially awkward and unsure about the purpose of marriage. After marrying his wonderful wife Linda and after 20 years of marriage, he still found himself asking, “How do I understand her?” and “How do I connect with her?” He described their relationship as feeling like “misaligned velcro.” But instead of staying stuck, Stu decided to take a step of faith. Through the Delight Your Marriage program, he learned practical tools like the CIRQUE listening technique, which he called “revolutionary.” He discovered how to be prayerful and playful and he not only deepened his relationship with Linda but also grew closer to Christ. Today, Stu says he and Linda are “perfectly aligned.” Praise God! We hope Stu's story inspires you to believe that change is possible. It's possible to break free from feelings of disconnection. It's possible to learn how to love your spouse in ways that make them feel cherished. And it's possible for God to completely transform your marriage and your life. God bless you! In this episode, we delve into the nuanced art of self-assessment in photography by the kinds of questions you ask, helping you gauge whether you're skilled or unskilled. This is useful to track progress. We explore the bold choice of diverging from mainstream photography trends, capturing images that defy the current hype and celebrate individuality. We discuss the importance of aligning your shooting priorities with your personal and professional goals, illustrating how sometimes paid work takes precedence over seasonal shoots in our case. Lastly, we unpack the dynamic relationship between "learning" and "uncovering", advocating for a sequential approach where foundational knowledge fuels creative experimentation.Expect to learn:-the amount of "how", "what", & "why" questions determine your skill level-how to gain creative freedom by going against seasonal trends-how to appreciate the secondary gains from your primary focuses-how to prioritize what content you should be shooting-why you can't just learn things, you have to apply through doingBook a one time virtual 30 minute 1-on-1 session with Aaron or Seth entirely for FREE by using the code "FREETRIAL" at checkout: https://thephotographermindset.com/products/60-minute-virtual-1-on-1-sessionSponsor:Thanks to Tamron for being our lead sponsor this episode! Was passiert, wenn Laien plötzlich Experten spielen wollen? In this episode, I discuss science-supported protocols to optimize your depth and rate of learning of material and skills. I explain the neurobiology of learning and neuroplasticity and how correctly timed, self-directed test-taking can be leveraged to improve learning and prevent forgetting. I discuss the study habits of the most successful learners, ways to limit distractions, how to set study goals, and how tests can be used as tools to learn, not just as a means for evaluating one's mastery of learned material. A surprising aspect of tests, specifically self-testing soon after exposure to new material, is that they can significantly improve your ability to learn, apply, and maintain new knowledge. I also discuss tools to improve focus and alertness while studying. By the end of this episode, you will have learned various science-supported actionable tools you can use to better learn, remember, and apply new information. In this episode of Choiceology with Katy Milkman, we look at the often-misunderstood and surprisingly common Dunning-Kruger effect with an interview featuring one of the researchers who first identified it, David Dunning. But we start with the story of Cecilia Jimenez, the humble Spanish grandmother and amateur landscape painter who took it upon herself to restore a fresco in her local church. The results made international headlines—and briefly made Ceclia Jimenez a household name—for all the wrong reasons.Andrew Flack has a lot of compassion for Cecilia. He met with her several times in the process of writing an opera with composer Paul Fowler called Behold the Man about Ceclia's ill-fated but ultimately beneficial project. Next, David Dunning explains how—contrary to popular belief—we are all at the mercy of the Dunning-Kruger effect from time to time, and that we should be more humble in recognizing what we don't know about what we don't know.David Dunning is the Ann and Charles R. Walgreen, Jr., Professor of the Study of Human Understanding at the University of Michigan. The paper "Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments," co-authored with Justin Kruger, led to the bias being named The Dunning-Kruger effect. President Cyril Ramaphosa says over one-point-five-million women have experienced physical or sexual violence in the space of a year in South Africa. The President has cited a survey completed by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), conducted in 2022, but the detailed results of which have not yet been released. Ramaphosa also says the survey found, among other things, that over 600-thousand men in the survey reported having perpetrated physical violence against a women in the preceding 12 months. Is losing 3-11 not fun for you? It might be - depending on how you look at it PLUS Too old or unskilled to play pickleball? You just got done playing 6 games, never scoring more than 3 points in a game. I try to share come encouragement by saying to you “It's not the end of the world.” You agree but then add “But it's less fun.” Is it less fun? Let's talk about it. Oftentimes when we are thinking through arguably negative situations, like not scoring more than 3 points in a game for 6 games in a row, the negativity stems not from the situation itself. Rather, the negativity stems from our framing of the situation. The situation itself is neutral. It is we who imbue it with the negative. Generally speaking, losing 3-11 is not as much fun as losing 5-11, is not as much fun as losing 9-11, is not as much fun as losing 13-15. And we haven't yet even gotten to the winning side. If we stopped here, then perhaps “But it's less fun” would be correct. There is, however, more road to explore. What about losing 1-11? Or the pickle 0-11? Even worse, what about comparing 3-11 to not playing at all? Or being injured? Or [fill in the countless things that are nowhere near as fun as playing a pickleball game]? With this framing, then the correct statement after a day of 3-11 games is “It was certainly more fun than the alternatives.” This is the power of framing. You get to decide the relevant context that you place your day's events in. Use your framing power to maintain a better perspective and enjoy a stronger relationship with pickleball (and everything else too). In this episode, Ben and Aaron delve into the critical role of game production and shed light on common misconceptions and pitfalls often encountered by producers. The discussion uncovers three distinct categories of production traps: suboptimizers, unskilled supporters, and the actively dangerous. Ben and Aaron underscore the importance of steering clear of these pitfalls and emphasize the significance of effective leadership in driving both team and project success. They explore how leadership in game production diverges from traditional management roles and underscore the producer's need to prioritize value and the project's overarching objectives, rather than becoming entangled in processes, tools, or excessive planning. Key Takeaways: Effective game production requires leadership, not just management. Suboptimization, focusing too much on process, tools, or planning, can hinder the success of the project. Unskilled supporters who take on tasks without providing true leadership can create friction within the team. The actively dangerous, such as those who always have an answer or act as authoritarian taskmasters, can harm team dynamics and hinder progress. Producers should focus on the overall goal and value creation, rather than getting caught up in specific tasks or processes. Back in 2014, a child-therapist my family visited for a season described stress in a revealing way. Kristen, the counselor, likened our souls to balloons… “You can blow a balloon up,” she said, moving her hands larger and farther part as if an expanding party-type of balloon rested between them. “At first the balloon is fine with the air you blow in…” “At some point, the balloon reaches max capacity,” she continued. "Then we have four options.” She described the first three scenarios, explaining—

In the most innocent interpretation, suggesting someone should ‘do their own research' is a reasonable bit of advice. But in the superheated world of social media discourse, #DoYourOwnResearch is a spicy rejoinder that essentially challenges someone to Google the subject since they clearly don't know what they're talking about. But Googling, social psychologist David Dunning pointedly notes, is not research. “The beauty and the terror of the internet,” he tells interviewer David Edmonds in this Social Science Bites podcast, “is that there's a lot of terrific information, but there's also a lot of misinformation and sometimes outright fraud. “People often don't have the wherewithal to distinguish.” This distinguishing is an area where Dunning, a professor at the University of Michigan, does his own research. While doing your own internet sleuthing isn't toxic on its face, Dunning suggests that often “you don't know when you're researching your way into a false conclusion, and … you don't know when to stop. The real hard problem with DYOR is when do you know when to stop: you go and you look at a couple of web pages, and ‘Well, you've learned something! Terrific!' But you don't know how much there is behind it that you still need to learn.” One driver of DYOR, Dunning adds, is the idea that gaining (and deploying) knowledge is one's own responsibility, which pretty much runs counter to science, which sees gaining knowledge as a collective enterprise. One piece of collective effort in which Dunning has made a very public mark is in describing what's come to be known as the Dunning-Kruger effect, named for Dunning and fellow social psychologist Justin Kruger of New York University, after work they originally described two decades ago in “Unskilled and unaware of it: How difficulties in recognizing one's own incompetence lead to inflated self-assessments” in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. The popular definition of the Dunning-Kruger effect, Dunning explains, is that “people who are incompetent or unskilled or not expert in a field lack expertise to recognize that they lack expertise. So they come to conclusions, decisions, opinions that they think are just fine when they're, well, wrong.” Dunning and Kruger's initial research was based on simple tests – of grammar, logical thinking, classical psychology quizzes, even sense of humor – asking subjects how well they think they're doing relative to everyone else. They found that the bottom 25 percent of participants tended to think they were doing above average. “But no.” “To know what you don't know,” he offers, “you need to know what you need to know to realize that your thinking diverges from that.” It's not true in every endeavor, he adds. “I'm a terrible golfer,” Dunning says. “And I'm fully aware that I‘m a terrible golfer!” The effect tends to show up when the skill of assessing outcomes is roughly similar to the skill of achieving outcomes. So when your golf ball flies into the nearby body of water, you don't need special skills to know that's bad. Becoming an expert in everything is out of the question; the real skill will be in identifying who is a legitimate expert and drawing on their insights. (And the right expert, Dunning notes “is the right experts. With an S on the end.”) For the record, the pair – who just received the 2023 Grawemeyer Award in Psychology for their Dunning-Kruger effect work - did not name the concept after themselves, although, as Dunning says, they're “tickled pink that our names will forever be associated with the nincompoops, incompetent ignorant cranks, if you will.”

I think there is a big online business PURGE coming. I predict that over the next year or two, we are going to see a massive desaturation in the online business market... That's not because e-learning or the gig economy is going to decline, it's because online business as we know it has changed forever. The days of being UNSKILLED & SELF-TITLED are over. The market is more saturated and more skeptical than it has ever been- and there is so much information about how to run an online business out there now that consumers know exactly what you're doing when you market to them. They're also spoiled for choice- so if you are not providing something exceptional, they have no reason to buy from you... and they probably won't. As consumers adjust to inflation and businesses prepare to weather a recession… Things are not going to look how they have- and that's what we're talking about today.----------------------------If you are a skilled service provider or aspiring digital product boss, listen up: The Self-Made Mama Society is open for enrolment- and we've got a spot with your name on it. The Society is unlike any other program on the market- designed SPECIFICALLY for busy moms and caregivers, it is the most accessible and hands-on business building program on the internet. We believe in delivering incredible value at amazing price points- and that's why this program is designed to give you ALL the attention you need to succeed at your specific stage of business and season of life. We are here to help you every step of the way in your online business journey- from getting started with your first few clients, to attracting an audience of perfect customers, to launching profitable passive products, The Society gives you clear action steps and hands-on support at every turn. We know there is no one-size-fits-all in Online Business, so in addition to a comprehensive curriculum you'll have access to WEEKLY group coaching calls, WEEKLY done-with-you marketing calls (yes, that means we're working with you on your social content, your copy, all of it) daily support in the members-only Facebook group, AND one-on-one sessions with me to make sure you and your business are getting the attention you need to succeed. Hey Everybody, this episode touches on a subject close to the core of my soul and managed to light my fuse when I heard what was being said about Wildland Firefighters being unskilled. We are going to talk about what was said, who said it, why, and what needs to be done. I know, that sounds like a full plate but it's pretty simple and straightforward and I think you might find it interesting. Most importantly, it's something that needs to be talked about and addressed. Today's episode comes to you from the lovely drive home to Illinois where I will be suffering through final exams (not dramatic at all). With the semester coming to a close I've been pondering the notion of what it really means to be an expert. A term that once seemed rare and highly esteemed, in my experience is getting a bit fuzzy and certainly overused in the fitness world. Here I discuss a famous paper on research that led to what's now known as the “Dunning-Kruger Effect”, how that applies to fitness and examples of such from my own personal training experience. Resources: Kruger, Justin, and David Dunning. “Unskilled and Unaware of it: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments.” Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Dec. 1999. We are continuing our discussions with artists participating in the Indivisible 2020 exhibition that Not Real Art is a media partner of, and today's guest is none other than Linda Vallejo. Linda is a multimedia artist who consolidates a range of influences from a lifetime of travel and study to create work that explores contemporary social, cultural, and political issues. Man One joins Linda in conversation, and these two powerful artists in our community discuss their Latinx identities and the way this has informed their work. They first unpack what indivisibility means to them and share how they both came to realize that they had been brainwashed into the belief that all Americans are united. As people of color, they have lived experience of the palpable division rampant in our society. We discuss the importance of questioning institutions, and Man One shares why he left the Catholic Church, which is difficult in the highly religious Mexican community. After discussing this tension, Linda talks about what being a socio-political artist means to her and why she does not subscribe to the conventional understanding of this type of artistry. Giving us insights into her process, we see that Linda's work is highly considered and thoughtful. Our conversation also touches on each artist's respective work, colorism both within the Latinx community and society at large, and what true diversity entails. To hear more from these creative giants, be sure to tune in today! Key Points From This Episode: What attracted Linda to participate in Indivisible 2020. The changing recognition of socio-political imagery in the mainstream art world. Man One's desire to be a participating artist in Indivisible 2020 and what indivisibility means to him. Unpacking the myth of indivisibility that Americans have been indoctrinated into believing. The underrepresentation of the Latinx community in LA, despite their being almost half the city's population. Unskilled versus essential workers: An example of how language can shift meaning greatly. Questioning the need to make oaths which Americans do from a young age. Man One's disillusionment with the Catholic church and institutions generally. The tension within the Latinx community between religion and political views. How religion has been a part of Man One's family's life and how it's shifted during the pandemic. Linda's experience of traveling as a woman of color and what she learned. Hear Linda's expanded understanding of what it means to be a socio-political artist. Linda's Big Boy ‘Muchachote' work and how it took Man One back to his childhood. Learn more about Linda's work repurposing objects and representing them as Latinx. The colorism within the Latinx community and reactions to Linda's work. Unpacking whiteness and fair skin as aspirational and how this can be overcome. Man One's experience of being a dark-skinned Mexican and the perceptions people have of him. Why Linda believes that everyone needs to go to college and get a graduate degree, if possible. Being Latinx with a college education and the weight that this holds. Hierarchies that are built into every structure from families to the workplace. Man One's rationale for using lots of color in his work and how people react to this. The link between beauty and wealth and how it has evolved over time. Linda's take on humanity's thirst for violence and war. Diversity is not about getting everyone to think the same; it's about living together while being different. The beauty of embracing differences and learning from people who think differently from you. Man One and Linda's upcoming work. Addressing the Sasquatch in Linda's studio. Final words from Linda and Man One. For more information and photos, visit here: https://notrealart.com/linda-vallejo-man-one
Richard and Eric essentially live out the Dunning-Kruger effect by talking about the Dunning-Kruger effect. They introduce the concept and land on an important question: To what degree do we recognize incompetence — not just in others, but in ourselves? Does it matter?
