Skyler Howes is a fan favorite no matter what bike he's riding. Which is good for him and his fans since he's just switched bikes and is now the final member of the six-rider deep HRC Monster Energy Honda Team.In this pre-race interview we get down-and-dirty with Howes about injuries, his switch from Husqvarna to Honda, new team dynamics with fellow American Ricky Brabec and all the drama we can dig up (we're trying really hard to dig up some drama). We also go off on the assumption train in our take on the confusing 48-hour chrono stage and more. Join us moments before the riders take to the first stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally as we get all that's good from Skyler Howes. Skyler Howes recently announced that he has joined the Monster Energy Honda Rally Team (Rally Team HRC). His rally contract with Husqvarna Motorcycles ended early, with both sides deciding to go separate directions. This new opportunity with Honda allows Howes to keep growing in rally, while also looking for four wheel racing and adventures. The rally season didn't start off as planned for Howes though. He had a massive get off at the Rally of Morocco during the prologue. The airbag recorded that his head hit the dirt at 25g's, which is a CRAZY amount of g-forces. The extent of his injuries weren't as bad as they could have been. Howes is already back to light training, expecting to start rally training again soon. The idea of doing what Howes did, racing Rally as a privateer, is a dream for many. We discuss the costs it would take to make that dream a reality. The Malle Moto class sounds fun, but you'd need to be ready to beat yourself up while spending a huge chunk of change. I'll say it now though, I'm in!Nutrition and hydration are also an important part of being at the top of your game for rally racing. The amount of calories they consume, and the fact that they use condom catheters, was a lot to take in. I eat a ton of calories now, but for a race like the Dakar Rally, I'd have to really step my game! New video idea, test out different condom catheters (maybe not).Huge congrats to Skyler Howes on his signing with Team HRC Rally. He's riding a works factory rally bike, and looking to win the Dakar Rally. We wish him the best. We also hope there's a chance to ride his rally bike in the future. We can all dream, right?!?!Support the show

Stage 13 show is up and ready to rock. Today we cover stage 13 from the 2023 Dakar Rally and, unbelievably, the race is actually closer, again. After a big day in the dunes, the leaders of the overall classification are separated by a mere 12 seconds. Third place is a minute-and-a-half back from the lead. We've never seen a Dakar Rally so close. And tomorrow's final stage will be a ripper with racers starting in reverse order and absolutely sending it for 130km into the final podium. It's a heated race between KTM teammates Toby Price (leading) and Kevin Benavides. Benavides took the stage win today, his first of the rally, and Toby has been in absolute control the entire two weeks of the race. Third place is American Skyler Howes, who lost a little time today but is still within striking distance. We also saw a new racer on the stage podium today with Michael Docherty taking second. A great ride!Today we hear directly from Toby Price, Skyler Howes, Michael Docherty, Adrian VanBeveren, Pablo Quintanilla, Jacob Argubright, and Miriam Pol.Available time to make up isn't a lot tomorrow, but anything can happen! It's going to be intense and, somewhat scary. Thanks for listening!
Today's KLIM Dakar Rally Daily show from Stage 12 is here and we are blown away by how close the front of the race continues to be. Amazing rides at the front of the race today shook the results up and turned predictability on its head. But, the front three contenders are still in control and the time gaps are someone staying unbelievably tight. We're talking less than three minutes separating the top three, 28-second gap between the top two! That's right, 28 seconds is the gap at the top of this Dakar Rally. We hear directly from stage bosses Daniel Sanders and Toby Price as they represent Australia with big pride at the front of the race today, delivering crazy strong performances in the dunes. Skyler Howes steals some internet access and sends us an update from the last few stages, as well. Great to hear from you, Skyler! Finally, our on-the-ground man with the microphone, Ashley House brings us two quick interviews today. First up is Technical Director at the KTM group for Rally Stefan Huber, who we've talked to before, but never during a Dakar quite like this. Then, House takes us to the Original by Motul class and gets the two front runners, who are separated by less than three minutes for the win, in a dual-interview full of drama! Ok, not really, but it is entertaining to hear directly from the gladiators of Dakar.More fun and great race insight on today's show. Enjoy!

KLIM Dakar Rally Daily from Stage 11 of the 2023 Dakar Rally is LIVE.Boy, we honestly didn't see this coming. The race at the top of the general classification is off-the-charts close. Less than three minutes separates the top three riders, with first and second place covered by under 30 seconds. That's insane considering what each of these riders have been through. To keep the contenders for the win that close by stage 11 shows how successful the race organizations planning and points system is this year at keeping this a race to the finish. In today's show we hear from race stage winner (his third of the rally) Luciano Benavides, Daniel Sanders, Toby Price, Skyler Howes (who is back in the lead of the race),and Mason Klein (who had a rough day in the race today). Then, we get a walking tour of the entire Dakar Bivouac from our unofficial on-the-ground correspondent Ashley House! Also, we check in with Original by Motul competitor Kirsten Landman who keeps impressing everyone with great riding and maximum endurance. And, last but not least, we get a welcomed update from Paul Neff from the hospital. The world's favorite race updater is being taken care of after a scary crash. We are so grateful to hear from him. Enjoy the show!

Sebastien Loeb/Fabian Lurquin (BRX) 3h 34:24 2. Nasser Al-Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel (Toyota) a 2:11 3. Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (Audi) a 3:31 4. Henk Lategan/Bred Cummings (Toyota) a 4:43 5. Kuba Przygonsky/Armand Monleón (Mini) a 10:19 ... 11. Juan Yacopini/Dani Oliveras (Toyota) a 18:58 23. Laia Sanz/Maurizio Gerini (Astara) a 33:35 25. Carlos Checa/Marc Sola (Astara) a 34:48 41. Stage Seven from the 2023 Dakar Rally was canceled after Stage six dragged on for most riders into the night. The organizers made the call to make it a commute today, sending the motorcycle riders off on 500km road ride into a marathon bivouac. The weather really threw the last couple days into chaos but after tonights camp-out without their teams, the riders have just one more day of racing before the rest stage. In today's show we hear from a resurrected Paul Neff who spent 30+ hours without sleep to get to the pits today after limping is rally bike in at 4am, doing major electronic repairs and hitting the road again. We also check in with Larry Klein, Mason Klein's dad, who is running the motorhome duty for Mason. Finally, we get updates from Mason, Skyler Howes, and Jacob Argubright about the state of the race for each of them and what they expect in the coming days.

Dakar Rally Stage 4 didn't disappoint with the speed and drama we expect from this epic race. After losing Ricky Brabec to a crash (he's ok!) yesterday, the Honda crew stepped it up big time today with top finishes and a stage win from Joan Barreda (29th stage win) and Pablo Quintanilla in second. Skyler Howes rode incredibly strong, again, to round out the top three - starting in second on the outset.Toby Price, Adrien VanBeveren, Luciano Benavides, Kevin Benavides, Daniel Sanders (who led out the day), Nacho Cornejo, and Luciano Santolino (Sherco) completed the top-10. Mason Klein, the Dakar prodigy, had a fantastic day going once again until a fuel issue caused him to park and work on his KTM for a few minutes at the very end of the special, dropping him down to 11th on the day's standings. He really limited his losses with massive performance early, grabbing early waypoint bonuses for leading the stage and was in contention for the stage win until the last points. Yesterdays winner, Daniel Sanders, had a bit of a struggle leading the way today, allowing Howes to catch up early and steal some bonus points away. Even so, Sanders still leads the overall rankings by 3:30 with Howes in second and Kevin Benavides in third. We also get an update from Jacob Argubright after a tough stage three and refreshing stage four finish, and get our American Rally Originals insight from our favorite message sender, Paul Neff. Tune in and enjoy!Still a LONG way to go at this Dakar. Play along with us at www.chainslayer.com/dakar for free in our Dakar Fantasy Derby!
Today was one of those days at Dakar that really shakes things up. For all but 43 motorcycle riders, the race stage was cut short due to a massive rain/hail storm wiping through the Saudi desert. The images are insane and reports are nasty. For most of the moto contenders, the day ahead of that storm was fantastic. Unfortunately, American Ricky Brabec has withdrew from the race after a hard crash during the stage. His injuries aren't fully known yet but we do know he was stable with mobility en-route to scans at the hospital. Reports are of neck and shoulder pain at this time. Red Bull GasGas rider Daniel Sanders grabbed a commanding stage win by blitzing through a long, tough, stage after a strategic finishing position yesterday put him in a prime place to win. His speed is what did the deed, though, as he led from every checkpoint all day and managed to put some serious time into his rivals in the top-ten general standing for the race.American Husqvarna Factory pilot Skyler Howes finished the stage in second today after starting in the usually unfavorable spot of third on the day. Howes was able to carry big speed all day despite being up front and, as you'll hear in today's show, he really enjoyed himself. Fellow American Mason Klein led the entire 400+ KM of timed special stage after his win yesterday to finish an amazing third today and put his stamp of competency and contention on the 2023 Dakar and the Rally GP class. The 21-year-old American lost minimal time to stage winner Sanders and benefitted from the new stage-leading bonus rules from the organization to limit his losses even more. In the end, he only gave up around six minutes the insanely fast Australian. The only way this happens is if Mason Klein rides like an absolute boss leading the world's best riders. And he did just that. More insight in this episode from Red Bull KTM's Australian legend Toby Price and his teammate Kevin Benevides as well as our daily check in with the Ironmen of the sport and our daily Paul Neff quote - one of our favorite parts of the day. It's already getting crazy out there, people.Welcome to the KLIM Dakar Rally Daily 2023 Stage 1 show. Today we go over a lot of details about the race that happened, but first, we get some apologies out of the way for our beer-induced Stage Zero show from last night. Turns out we shouldn't do that because we should just know better. Not because we drank beer and made fools of ourselves, but because we should just know that Dakar is never predictable and that procedures always change!Big news from the day is the withdrawal of 2022 Dakar Rally Champion Sam Sunderland after a violent crash resulting in a broken shoulder blade and concussion, according to reports. Bummer day for the champ and we're going to really miss his updates from the race. Get well soon, Sam!The race had even more drama today with time penalties knocking around the top rankings right up until showtime. In the end, American Ricky Brabec grabbed the stage win after adjustments. going to the source and chatting with stage winner Ricky Brabec as well as Skyler Howes and Original by Motul American racer Paul Neff! As a member of the American Rally Original crew, Paul (and the rest of the maniacs in the unsupported class) are giving us real insight to the traditional Dakar experience. One of the biggest highlights of the days racing was American Mason Klein holding the front of the race for most of the stage, only being edged out (very early, before penalties) at the end of the special by Daniel Sanders. Klein is continuing to prove his speed out there. An impressive ride by him, for sure.Don't forget to log on and play Dakar Fantasy Derby! Skyler Howes joins us just a year later from being our guest last time. Skyler talks about his new factory ride and how life has been going since. We also talk MRAN, WORCS, SRAGP, RMFantasy and so much more.
Today is the day at the 2022 Dakar Rally where the teams align and set their best riders up to win the big show. We get an update from Husqvarna's Skyler Howes who is back home after a horrific crashRed Bull KTM's Toby Price won the stage, creeping up in the general rankings but still considerably out of contention for a podium overall position . Monster Energy Honda led the stage from the get-go today, but dropped time mid-stage and that immediately put Red Bull KTM's Matthias Walkner on the front of the stage to fend for himself. Walkner led well for most of the stage, but dropped considerable time at the final km's, finishing deep in the pack. The other half of the Honda team, Pablo Quintanilla and Joan Barreda rode well and finished strategically to set up a great result on the final big day tomorrow.Consistent 2022 race leader Sam Sunderland lost time today on his GasGas but still is in strong contention for an overall victory. We get into all the strategy scenarios in today's show with quotes from Adrian Van Beveren, Sam Sunderland, Matthias Walkner, and Joan Barreda
As the 2022 Dakar Rally enters the "rest day" we get updates from injured riders Skyler Howes and Ross Branch, have a chat with navigation training guru Jimmy Lewis, learn about Danilo Petrucci from Cycle News' Rennie Scaysbrook and hear from Hero Motorsports rally racing director Wolfgang Fischer about the success of the Hero Rally program. Also, we're answering instagram-submitted questions on air and look forward to the upcoming behemoth stage 7! It's not really a rest day, after all. It's just a day without a race!
The Dakar Rally starts after the rest day. We've heard that plenty from racers, managers, and more. And it certainly seems to be holding true in 2022's edition of the Dakar. Today on Stage five, we saw our first contender fall and abandon the race with American success story Skyler Howes headed to the hospital right after completing the stage. He reported in to the show with a decent prognosis after a massive crash: concussion, sore heel, no broken bones. But his race is over.Others crashed as well, two-time stage winner Joan Barreda crashed and injured his shoulder. After finishing, he said he'll wait until the morning to inform the organizers if his race is over. Daniel Sanders seems to have hit the deck again, as well - two days in a row for the fast Australian.Despite the carnage, an unlikely winner emerges. MotoGP veteran Danilo Petrucci, participating in his first Dakar (maybe his first rally) took the stage win after Toby Price was docked with a six-minute speeding penalty. The win is a milestone as never has a MotoGP winner won a stage of Dakar. Also, he's a true rookie, which puts him in rarified air again. In today's show we try to keep up with the changing pace of the race results, get an update from Ricky Brabec, hear from race leader Sam Sunderland, get a quote from Ross Branch and dig into what's to come. Check it out!
Listen in to our Stage four show for insight into the Dakar Rally's results from the day and check out our interview with factory racer Andrew Short (Yamaha) and an epic group chat/bench race session that goes down in the bivouac with Skyler Howes (Husqvarna) and Matthias Walkner (KTM) and rookie sensation Mason Klein. Monster Energy Honda's Joan Barreda took his 28th career stage win today by laying down a blistering pace across 465km of fast tracks and some tricky navigation of special test. Barreda's Honda teammate, Pablo Quintanilla, chased his way to second on the day with the Sherco Factory Racing duo of Rui Concalves and Luciano Santolino going third and fourth, respectively. Fifth place went to Husqvarna's Luciano Benavides. In the general standings, GasGas Factory Racing's Sam Sunderland retains the overall lead, now three minutes ahead of second place. Walkner moved into second overall today ahead of Yamaha's Adrian VanBeveren. Less than five minutes seperates the top three. MotoGP's Danilo Petrucci had a fast race today after re-joining the race as a provisional entry after his early mechanical DNF with the third fastest time on the day. Unfortunately, he was docked 10 minutes for speeding through a limited zone, putting him in 15th officially on the day. Don't miss today's show!

It's Stage 2 of the 2022 Dakar Rally and the racing shakeups continue as racers work their way through a challenging navigation trend that's defining this year's edition. We chat with Sam Sunderland about navigation and course challenges and Skyler Howes calls in with a race report from the past two days. Joan Barreda takes the stage win (his 28th!) and Sam Sunderland is the race's newest leader, the second leader from the GasGas brand, with a strong performance in today's stage which was supposed to be day one of a marathon. It turns out the marathon bivouac was flooded after days of rain, so organizers moved the pits to a new location and scrapped the marathon. The race is on otherwise and what a race it's turning out to be. Big time gains were grabbed by KTM's Kevin Benavides and Toby Price today in the general standings. Also on the move was Joaquim Rodriquez on the Hero machine and Andrew Short took some time back on the Monster Energy Yamaha. In fact, all the Monster Energy Yamaha machines of VanBeveren (2nd), Short (16th), and Branch (12th overall) are knocking on the top 15 in general classification. One of the strongest day-by-day performance so far in this young race is from Husqvarna Factory Racing's Skyler Howes as he once again maintained an incredibly consistent pace finishing in the top five today, avoiding errors and looking solid.American Ricky Brabec made up some time from a tough day yesterday, but not as much as his fellow competitors. This race is just getting started with 10 more days of gnarly racing to come!

Our first pre-race interview of 2022 is with 2021's biggest success story, American Skyler Howes. After two stellar privateer Dakar efforts (fifth overall in 2021), the friendly desert racer finally got the call to suit up for the Factory Husqvarna Rally Team this year. And while it seems like this is where the fireworks fly and the champagne pops for Howes, he's far from celebrating just yet (ok, he did buy a truck to celebrate a bit).In this candid interview recorded at the Kurt Caselli Foundation's annual Ride Day at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, we chat with Howes about his relationship with the late, great Caselli and how some pieces of sage advice are still inspiring him today. We also get his take on the newest and future Dakar Rally rule changes, what he's looking forward to (and not looking forward to) about the upcoming race course, how the all-new Husqvarna rally bike is, and, of course, how awesome it is to be a FREAKING FACTORY FREAKING RALLY FREAKING RACER!Don't miss this show featuring a special pre-interview chat with Quinn Cody about his time with Kurt Caselli, the Kurt Caselli Foundation work he's been a part of, and some of his early memories of young Skyler pulling holeshots in the pro class against 450's on a two-stroke!Thanks, Cycle News for making this possible!

The Marathon.Today's stage 7 of the 2021 Dakar Rally kicks off this year's marathon stages, two back-to-back stages without mechanical support from teams, techs, or service trucks. Riders do their own bike maintenance and can only work on their bikes in the paddock area one time, once they leave their ride, they are done working on the bike until the clock starts tomorrow.American Ricky Brabec grabbed his second win of the race and creeps back into contention while front-running Toby Price loses very little time in the overall to "Nacho" Cornejo - only one second separates the top two in this race. American Skyler Howes finished third on the stage - his best stage finish.TImes are getting tighter, mistakes carry bigger consequence. We talk with Andrew Short about his controversial departure from the race and how he sees the day-to-day race working out for the top competitors. We also check in with Skyler Howes, who continues to be a very strong performer and is certainly in contention for a podium finish at this point.
It's time to rest.Dakar competitors are the hardiest of all. Six stages in of brutal racing at high speeds has taken its toll on even the top racers at this year's event. You can hear it in their voices - they are looking forward to a break. In today's episode, we cover a shortened stage 6 that, while 100km shorter than originally planned, was just as tough on the racers and it shook up the standings once again. We hear from Toby Price, "Nacho" Cornejo, and dial up our buddy Skyler Howes to get the details on the day.How many stages can Joan Barreda win? Can Ricky Brabec fight back to the top? How about the consistent players - did today bring them any surprises? How about those tires? All this and more in today's episode from stage 6 at the 2021 Dakar Rally
It's good to be Skyler Howes today. The young American is sitting at the top of the general classification of Elite motorcycle competitors. And, as we've seen all race long, he's been prime for this spot since he's avoided the massive pendulum swings of time gained and lost that the other top contenders are somewhat forced to play in so far. In today's episode, we chat with the new race leader, one of few Americans to ever hold that spot in the world's toughest racing event. Also on tap today is some insight from the master himself, Jimmy Lewis. We call in to his Nevada rally headquarters as he's following along with intent and interest as his students battle it out in Saudi Arabia. We also get into the controversial departure of American Andrew Short from competition. New information reveals he did, in fact, have water contaminate his fuel in yesterday's stage - stopping his chances of continuing on.
