Former WMX Racer Sara Price fought, battled, and clawed her way to a driving career, and nearly won Dakar in her first attempt. She was once a WMX racer with support from Kawasaki Team Green, but when her moto career, and the factory support for WMX racing, went away, she had to find a new way to stay competitive. She set her sights on off-road racing in trucks, but the process of succeeding on four wheels is far different from motocross. Sara joins Jason Weigandt to explain truck and car racing, which is based heavily on burning up the phones and emails to try to get financial support. It's a lot of hearing no, all in hopes of one big yes that can get you into a seat. After great success in Baja racing, Sara's goal has always been to tackle the famous Dakar Rally, which she finally got to do this year. And she battled for her win in her first attempt! Further, her boyfriend Ricky Brabec won the race in the motorcycle division. Sara's also an accomplished stunt driver and rider, and even appeared in a Toyota Super Bowl commercial on Sunday. There's a lot to talk about here. Check it out.   The Racer X Exhaust podcast is hosted by Jason Weigandt and presented by Yoshimura and Racer X Brand.

A edición 46o do Dakar é a quinta que se celebra en Arabia Saudita e chegou ao seu fin tras máis de 4.700 quilómetros de especiais e un total de case 8.000 quilómetros que puxeron a proba aos pilotos e copilotos desde a antiga cidade de AlUla ata as beiras do mar Vermello en Yanbu, pasando polo océano de dunas do Empty Quarter. Neste Dakar participou o estradense Javier Campos, cunha KTM. Even without the bonus time gathered today, Brabec would be leading the 2024 Dakar Rally by around four minutes over Branch.Brabec's Honda teammate Adrien Van Beveren came in third, just past three minutes down. The 2024 Dakar Rally "48-Hour Chrono" stage kicked off today and dished out more challenges for the Dakar Rally competitors. Top Rally GP competitors lead out the day into Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter to remote bivouacs that are spread out along the course. A sea of endless dunes met the racers head-on and some bowed out after technical issues. Today's race was the first part of a two-day single stage. And HRC Monster Energy Honda's Adrien Van Beveren leads at today's rest stops with impressive sand speed over more than 500km of racing. AVB's Honda teammate Ricky Brabec came in to the bivouac hot on his heels to sit in second (Virtually) and Red Bull KTM's Toby Price is right behind him in third. Honda's Skyler Howes left the race today after only ~40KM due to a techincal issue with his bike and yesterday's stage winner Pablo Quintanilla - poised to make up big time today after a reversed starting order - ran out of fuel 10km before the first refueling of the day, an error that dashes his hopes of overall victory. Check in with Malle Moto competitors with us today, as well as a chat with Women's class leader and enduro champion Jane Daniels on the Fantic machine. Cheers! But, that didn't happen as the kid on the Kove lead the way all day, never seeing another rider in his rearview. Dakar Rally Stage 4 didn't disappoint with the speed and drama we expect from this epic race.  After losing Ricky Brabec to a crash (he's ok!) yesterday, the Honda crew stepped it up big time today with top finishes  and a stage win from Joan Barreda (29th stage win) and Pablo Quintanilla in second. Skyler Howes rode incredibly strong, again, to round out the top three - starting in second on the outset.Toby Price, Adrien VanBeveren, Luciano Benavides, Kevin Benavides, Daniel Sanders (who led out the day), Nacho Cornejo, and Luciano Santolino (Sherco) completed the top-10. Mason Klein, the Dakar prodigy, had a fantastic day going once again until a fuel issue caused him to park and work on his KTM for a few minutes at the very end of the special, dropping him down to 11th on the day's standings. He really limited his losses with massive performance early, grabbing early waypoint bonuses for leading the stage and was in contention for the stage win until the last points. Yesterdays winner, Daniel Sanders, had a bit of a struggle leading the way today, allowing Howes to catch up early and steal some bonus points away. Even so, Sanders still leads the overall rankings by 3:30 with Howes in second and Kevin Benavides in third. We also get an update from Jacob Argubright after a tough stage three and refreshing stage four finish, and get our American Rally Originals insight from our favorite message sender, Paul Neff. It's already getting crazy out there, people.Welcome to the  KLIM Dakar Rally Daily 2023 Stage 1 show. Today we go over a lot of details about the race that happened, but first, we get some apologies out of the way for our beer-induced Stage Zero show from last night. Turns out we shouldn't do that because we should just know better. Not because we drank beer and made fools of ourselves, but because we should just know that Dakar is never predictable and that procedures always change!Big news from the day is the withdrawal of 2022 Dakar Rally Champion Sam Sunderland after a violent crash resulting in a broken shoulder blade and concussion, according to reports. Bummer day for the champ and we're going to really miss his updates from the race. Get well soon, Sam!The race had even more drama today with time penalties knocking around the top rankings right up until showtime. In the end, American Ricky Brabec grabbed the stage win after adjustments. going to the source and chatting with stage winner Ricky Brabec as well as Skyler Howes and Original by Motul American racer Paul Neff! As a member of the American Rally Original crew, Paul (and the rest of the maniacs in the unsupported class) are giving us real insight to the traditional Dakar experience. One of the biggest highlights of the days racing was American Mason Klein holding the front of the race for most of the stage, only being edged out (very early, before penalties) at the end of the special by Daniel Sanders. Klein is continuing to prove his speed out there. An impressive ride by him, for sure.Don't forget to log on and play Dakar Fantasy Derby! Doch was ist da eigentlich schiefgelaufen? Doch was ist da eigentlich schiefgelaufen? The 2022 Dakar Rally entered stage 7 after the "day without a race" rest day,  and it didn't take long for the drama to unfold.Daniel "Chucky" Sanders crashed violently seven kilometers from the start of the morning's liason, injuring his elbow severely and ending his Dakar hopes for 2022. The forceful Australian was confidently charging into the front of the race day after day, but a very harsh accident today ended it all. We talk with Jordi Villadoms from the KTM Group effort about the crash.Monster Energy Honda's Nacho Cornejo was the big winner today taking his first stage win of the year, and bringing a bright spot to the Honda camp as the rally enters the second week. Likewise, Joan Barreda came out firing today, ignoring a painful injured shoulder to finish high in the standings.  Ricky Brabec and Pablo Quintanilla raced to the front of the pack, and navigated well together today to finish the stage out front, physically, finishing seventh and 11th, respectively on the day.We hear from Ricky Brabec about the day. Other racers lost significant time today on the stage, and we have a new overall leader as Monster Energy Yamaha's Adrien Van Beveren took the reigns at the front of the general classification after a successful day.  previous days' leader Sam Sunderland (GasGas) and Red Bull KTM's Matthias Walkner lost big time today in the stage, but still sit comfortably in the top five of the overall. Don't miss today's show as we get back to racing at the 2022 Dakar Rally!

The Dakar Rally starts after the rest day. We've heard that plenty from racers, managers, and  more. And it certainly seems to be holding true in 2022's edition of the Dakar. Today on Stage five, we saw our first contender fall and abandon the race with American success story Skyler Howes headed to the hospital right after completing the stage. He reported in to the show with a decent prognosis after a massive crash: concussion, sore heel, no broken bones. But his race is over.Others crashed as well, two-time stage winner Joan Barreda crashed and injured his shoulder. After finishing, he said he'll wait until the morning to inform the organizers if his race is over. Daniel Sanders seems to have hit the deck again, as well - two days in a row for the fast Australian.Despite the carnage, an unlikely winner emerges. MotoGP veteran Danilo Petrucci, participating in his first Dakar (maybe his first rally) took the stage win after Toby Price was docked with a six-minute speeding penalty. The win is a milestone as never has a MotoGP winner won a stage of Dakar.  Also, he's a true rookie, which puts him in rarified air again. In today's show we try to keep up with the changing pace of the race results, get an update from Ricky Brabec, hear from race leader Sam Sunderland, get a quote from Ross Branch and dig into what's to come. Check it out!

Episode 01 Is Here!Welcome to the first episode of Cycle News' Dakar Rally Daily podcast. Here, we  take you on an epic trip into the iconic Dakar Rally. In this episode, hosts Jesse Ziegler and Quinn Cody break down their plan of attack to provide in-depth Dakar Rally coverage from the people chasing the ultimate racing dream. 2021's Dakar Rally will be the ultimate test. From COVID protocols to new rules and limitations imposed on teams and competitors nothing about this race is going to be easy. Join us as we get ready for some great interviews, commentary, race analysis and call-ins from the biggest names in motorcycle rally sport! Why are we doing this and why should anyone listen to us?We are Dakar Rally nerds.Quinn Cody even raced it twice. And he was was the North American Ambassador for the A.S.O (organization body for the Dakar) and is quite responsible for getting people like Ricky Brabec on a rally bike in the first place.Jesse Ziegler is basically just a nerd. But he's been a working motorcycle journalist since 2005 so he's good at asking questions. The Dakar Rally is awesome. It's hard to find Dakar Rally coverage. And we want information faster than TV reports so we decided to get our boots on the ground, so to speak, and talk with all the experts we can find before the race. Then, we're going to call them during the race for inside-the-race insight. We want to expose more people to the beauty, brutality and chaos of the Dakar Rally and show the competitors off.We want to give you insight into the way rally works and showcase the immense complexity and strategy that will undoubtedly unfold in 2021.There is so much to talk about, the only way we can do it is to record ourselves talking with people in the mix and sharing it with you!Who are you going to talk to?Everyone we can and as often as possible. We are committed to getting up early as soon as the race stages wrap up in Saudi Arabia (11 hours ahead of our California home) and talking to the men and women competing as they finish their days.Trainers, coaches, friends and family of the biggest racersCurrent and past champions, privateers, legends of the past and those who chased the dream to race. When does it start? Now. As of publishing this podcast we are five days away from the start of the rally and we have pre-race interviews with Ricky Brabec, Andrew Short, Skyler Howes, Johnny Campbell, Edo Mossi, Toby Price, and Laia Sanz stacked up and ready! How do I find more episodes? We will be posting daily episodes  (at least) starting 12/29/20 through the end of the rally on 1/15/2021. We may stack more up in the first days to make room for race coverage starting on 1/3/21 when the race kicks off. You can follow along by checking out the Dakar Rally Daily story on  cyclenews.com, subscribing wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts, following @cyclenews on instagram and other social media channels and by following our hosts Jesse Ziegler @chasingtrail  and Quinn Cody @quinncody

Ricky Brabec should need little introduction to American race fans. As the first American to win the notoriously brutal Dakar Rally, Brabec put his Monster Energy Honda Rally bike on the top of the most elusive step in motorcycle sport - an accomplishment that is hard to describe in scale or challenge. Americans have tried to win this race, and a few have even landed on the overall podium, but the challenges the Dakar Rally serves up simply kept Americans from winning until Brabec and Honda made it happen in early 2020.It certainly wasn't an easy road to get there. In fact, Brabec DNF'd  three years in a row after finishing 9th overall his first attempt in 2016. That's a DNF in 2017, 2018, and while leading the rally in 2019. So, 2020's win was certainly sweet and, from Brabec's standpoint, almost easy in comparison.Brabec himself is the first to admit that the complexities of Dakar make the race a crazy, crazy place. And that a lot of luck goes into being first. But, as we learned in our interview, Brabec and the rest of the American rally racers are working harder than ever to start their own winning legacy. So, how did he win and how is he going to win again? It turns out it has a lot to do with feeling at home in the desert and reading the terrain faster than the others. Oh, and he's probably training harder than anyone else. Brabec brings his honest and refreshingly blunt opinions and insight to this interview covering topics from training with Jimmy Lewis, building and riding roadbooks with Andrew Short, having Johnny Campbell, Kendall Norman, and Eric Siraton in his corner and more. And if you want some real insight into Dakar's new tire rules, slower navigation, roadbook handouts in the morning, and more, Brabec tells it to us straight including his thoughts on the in-team dynamics and "teamwork", or lack thereof, inside the pits. Settle in and enjoy this long talk with a living legend of American motorcycle racing. Plus, he tells us what it's like to have an airbag vest go off when he went over the bars at Glamis!
