Guess who's back? But don't call it a comeback, as James and I return from.... the last time we did a podcast together to do what we usually do! With.... everything going on in the world today, and hoo boy is there a lot going on in the world today, we were able to get together to discuss what exactly going to the movies means right now (not going to the movies really), what that would possibly look like for audiences, the industry and more going forward, and then discussing some of the films that we've had a chance to watch during this topsy-turvy time, such as Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, Kitty Green's The Assistant, Céline Sciamma's love masterpiece, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, the latest big topical film from Netflix in Charlie Kaufman's I'm Thinking of Ending Things and much more. Then, we shift gears with a spin on our usual segment - Actor in a Hat - but this time, thanks to James, we do one for us and we go all the through the latest Best Actor Oscar winner for [insert any of the films he's acted in besides the one he actually won for] Joaquin Phoenix, touching on everything from his brother's, River, passing - which was the anniversary of around the time we recorded this - to his beginnings in the industry, working with directors such as Ridley Scott, James Gray, Paul Thomas Anderson, Lynne Ramsay. And then, yeah, we eventually talk about Joker as well. Good to be back, and as awkward as it gets at the end, we're glad to have you check us on out again for a listen and a helluva time on listening to us do the usual rant and rave!
This week we discuss the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman and discuss his final performance in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods. Twitter: @NSaoTpod Email: neverseenanyofthispod@gmail.com Theme: Bleeps and Bloops by Even Deeper
Welcome to This Won't Last Podcast! On this week's episode we talk about Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods (we recorded it last month but didn't have a chance to post, sorry!). We ask a few random questions, hopefully no one got cancelled...Like. Share. Subscribe. Thank you!
Mum has seen recent Netflix exclusives, Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods and Adam Sandler's Uncut Gems. She also reviews Chris Hemsworth in right-wing propaganda flick, 12 Strong.
We welcome 'entertainment executive' (we're not sure what he does, but it sounds important) Jejuan Guillory again and he shines a shameful light on Tosin's knee jerk reaction to Revenge of the Sith, and answers so many questions that a separate podcast will be made. In regular programming, we are thankful that this was being recorded remotely as Shaun and Tosin might have come to blows over Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, while Sharon plays the peace lover. Shaun catches Greyhound and XX on Apple TV+ and Tosin is late to the party with Killing Eve. This week's Empire Podcast (once again brought to you in lockdown) sees two acting powerhouses have a chat about their craft. First, Chris Hewitt talks to Delroy Lindo about his incredible performance in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, and then Terri White grills Maxine Peake mercilessly about playing the title role in Fanny Lye Deliver'd. Then, in the virtual podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer and, in the rotating fourth chair, James 'Jaime Blanco' White, our man in LA, for a fun ep in which they discuss tea and coffee cups in the movies (next week: scraped barrels), talk about movie news including Michael Keaton's possible return to the Batcave, and review Thomas Clay's Fanny Lye Deliver'd, David Dobkin's Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga, and Jon Stewart's Irresistible. Oh, and the new film fact section claims another victim. Enjoy!

In this week's episode David, John and Kyle discuss the changes to simplify HBO Go/Now/Max (1:45) and the problems the streaming service Quibi is facing (7:20). We also discuss the new filming protocols in the age of coronavirus (14:30) and how the pandemic has pushed both Tenet (20:50) and the 93rd Academy Awards (27:35). In other news, everyone from Stassi to "Cops" and "Live PD" are leaving our TVs - both Tom and Funmi don't know what "Live PD" is, which shocks Mark and the rest of America. And we were not prepared to have so many HBO apps in 2020! In our signature segment at 16:00, we share our thoughts on Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, the titillating 365 DNI, And Then We Danced, Just Mercy, Sweetheart, and Love, Victor. And a question to ponder for our next episode: is the new Hulu film Shirley good or garbage?
Spike Lee's latest film for Netflix has been causing a sensation, and this week Wade and Kevin check it out. Da 5 Bloods, a sprawling look at the legacy of the Vietnam War for black Americans, is Lee's follow-up to his Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman. The guys do a deep dive on Da 5 Bloods‘ themes and startling spiritual vision. On the more low-key side of things, Judd Apatow's The King of Staten Island just hit on-demand streaming. Delroy Lindo has been getting a lot of attention for his stunning performance in Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods," so Kerry and Collin decided to dive into "This Christmas," an ensemble comedy featuring Lindo, Idris Elba, Chris Brown and Loretta Devine. Can anyone out there explain where the name "Sock it to me cake" comes from? They also get into the topic of BLM protests and how to be a white ally in these troubled times.
Welcome everyone to another absolute barrage of content coming your way here from the Epic Film Guys with a heartfelt apology from me (editor Nick) for the show not being out in its normal timeslot. The edit REALLY threw me for a loop last night so much so that I threw my hands up and walked away from it entirely and started over fresh today. What I decided to do- to preserve the integrity of the in-depth analysis myself and LoySauce did for The Last American Virgin- is I threw the review for Spike Lee's latest Da 5 Bloods into its own minisode for all of you to enjoy, and later this evening I'll have the full Thursday episode up as well featuring the next installment of our #CannonQuarantine series. Artemis Fowl drops on Monday. We were thrilled to be joined by a first-time guest to the Epic Film Guys for the two current films reviews, as I don't have streaming services now so I couldn't see them. Does anyone want a podcast about famous directors' Instagram feeds? While we workshop that, there's a lot to get through this week, not least a review of Federico Fellini's landmark film La Strada. Where does it end up in our Fellini power rankings? After a Question of the Week about road movies, we've got a triple-bill of new streaming releases. Sarah reviews Marjane Satrapi's biopic of Marie Curie - Radioactive - while Graham has probably the least stressful time of the week with Curzon's new Italian comedy Citizens of the World. No such luck for Rob, who has a harrowing, politically-charged trip to Vietnam with Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods. Next week: wasps! Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods," streaming on Netflix, is sprawling, enthralling and essential viewing. It comes on as an action adventure--a group of black Vietnam vets go back to Vietnam to find the remains of their squad leader and the gold bullion he helped them bury. But it's really about black lives--how much they matter, what blacks have endured in America's past and where they belong in its turbulent present.
On the second part of this week's podcast, you'll find the podteam — Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, Amon Warmann, and James Dyer — discussing the week's movie news, plugging the heck out of the latest issue of Empire magazine, celebrating our cinemas in the, erm, Celebrate Our Cinemas section, and reviewing Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, Judd Apatow's The King Of Staten Island, and Kenneth Branagh's Artemis Fowl. On the interview front, Chris hears from Rosamund Pike about her incredible light-up lockdown mask and her new film, Radioactive, in which she plays Marie Curie; and talks to Judd Apatow about The King Of Staten Island, and his comedy aesthetic. The latter is funnier than it sounds, honest. Enjoy.
On this episode, Matt & Eric review the new Spike Lee Joint Da 5 Bloods starring Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mélanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Pääkkönen, Jean Reno and Chadwick Boseman.
