A young, rising activist at the forefront of the Black Lives Matter is loses contact with those around her and they begin to fear the worst.
Growing up in a college town I think I had a weird view of a lot of things, alcohol, partying, the college experience, and more but this one is definitely the worst As a young child and adolescent I watched as many women went missing in my town and surrounding town the women were killed and sexually abused or physically assaulted some not found for long periods of time and when I went to college and realized everyone didn't know about what happened to these women and these awful stories and my experience growing up wasn't a monolith I realized that seeing these tragic events at such a young age most likely had an impact on my peers and I I have peers that fully look into every situation they are so anxious when out in public it is intoxicating and I think I suffer from this also I feel like I cant let my guard down and have fun because of these awful situations I wonder what would happen if I found a partner that I really loved who began to abuse me would I be able to escape would I prevail? Or would I end up missing as well? As a person of color my opinion on this topic is different because if I was gone would people even know? Its always worrying about what everyone else is doing not knowing if they are abusers or rapists or not like you have to fully know the people you are around at all times it only takes one time for something awful to happen and you become changed forever It seems like after experiencing any level of sexual assault your innocence is shattered I know it happened to me its hard to look at the world the same way after an event like that We need to believe women and believe their stories The hit show you on Netflix highlights how quick society is to give platforms to the families of white missing victims but crickets for the poc, black women, indigenous women, lgbt people it is insane Olyuwatin I remember being shocked hearing about Oluwatoyin Salau in 2020 she was as activist who was sexually assaulted and then killed her media presence came with a lot of backlash and negativity and its so sad to see how her story ended I think this podcast opens up the conversation for something deeper and how sexual assault is handled on campuses and by cities as a Virginia Tech graduate I saw the march last year for survivors and how many women and men felt like they didn't have a voice at our university and just wondering what couldve been prevented if people felt they had the space to speak up I don't want to hear another missing person story I don't want to see people hypothesizing on tik tok about it or making it their new obsession on their crime podcast I am not trying to be hypocritical either I think this is a serious issue that needs to be prevented For those suffering with domestic abuse and abusive relationships know that someone is always there to help there are multiple hotlines and I am here for you. I hear you also. stay safe. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/al4s/message

Walk with Boston Red Cloaks and listen in as we participate in a peaceful anti-racism gathering held in support of Follen Church, a Massachusetts congregation that was targeted by a racist hate group - seemingly because Follen prominently posts a Black Lives Matter banner at their church. Red Cloaks carried signs reading #SayHerName with names of some of the Black women who have been unjustly killed: Breonna Taylor, Dominque Fells, Brayla Stone, Vanessa Guillen, Oluwatoyin Salau, Merci Mack, Riah Milton, along with signs reading "We are in this together" and "Courage calls to courage everywhere." Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died two days prior; this was the first in-person gathering of the Boston Red Cloaks since COVID shut down most day-to-day life in Massachusetts in March. With members across the state of Massachusetts, a member alerted the Boston Red Cloaks, and those who were able came out as an anti-racism action. In addition to congregants, more than 150 people lined both sides of the street with Black Lives Matter signs, and messages of love and kindness. Note that all members wore masks throughout, which may be audible. Following this event, the group continued to Concord. Look for: "Walk With Us Part 2" Recorded: September 20, 2020
Very angry and saddening moment, the energy definitely reflects in this episode. Pure sadness and emotions. R.I.P Breonna Taylor, Oluwatoyin Salau, Atatiana Jefferson, Aura Rosser, Michelle Cuisseaux, Janisha Fonville, Gabriella Nevarez, Tanisha Anderson, Sandra Bland, Korryn Gaines, Kira Johnson, Sha-Asia Washington and so many more names. I'm sorry you were not protected.
Toyin Salau vanished from a bus stop in Tallahassee, FL and cries of her disappearance went largely unnoticed until she was found brutally assaulted and murdered in the mud. In this episode, we discuss her last attempt at receiving help.
In the metaphorical sense, Jaden Smith lives on his own planet. And, all things considered, who wouldn’t want to astral project somewhere else? Between the global pandemic and racial reckoning, it feels like Planet Earth as we know it is in shambles and nobody knows where to even start cleaning it up. Our interview happens to fall on what would have been the late Oluwatoyin Salau’s 20th birthday while also coinciding with natural disasters like Hurricane Laura and the California wildfires. The next day, news of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman dying from colon cancer sends shockwaves across the Internet. But in spite of a persona built on being perpetually spaced out, Smith himself feels the grief of these events like a weighted blanket of sadness. He’s been aware of this messy reality pretty much his entire human existence, but recognizes that this traumatic moment is a massive wake-up call for people who “wanted to turn a blind eye to racism and try to ignore it.” And yet, the most turbulent times are when Smith seems to find the most creative inspiration.

In our new season two miniseries: herstory: a (f)embolden spotlight, we decided to spotlight black lives matter activist Oluwatoyin Salau. Katie calls attention to the treatment of black women within the community and how we must demand for change.
We began this episode with Oluwatoyin Salau on our hearts. We have failed to listen and protect our black women, so what better way to turn the tide than to invite a woman to the podcast to share her wisdom. In this episode the gurls talk about the latest Supreme Court cases, Mercury being retrograde, the death of Oluwatoyin Salau, the "suicides" of recent black men hanging, the Karen shenanigans, and the season finale of Insecure. We also joined by a surprise super fan guest.
Consider this a venting session... no structure or plan at all. With so much going on simultaneously, it's been difficult to process any of it. This was a moment to do that, I pray that God speaks to you through it. We are in continuous prayers for all those we've lost from COVID-19... those we've lost from pure hate... George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Dreasjon Reed, Rayshard Brooks... for the countless women we've failed... Oluwatoyin Salau, Kenneka Jenkins... and those we've lost because of their identity/sexual orientation, including the many Black Transgender people we've lost, often without acknowledgement.
On this weeks episode Mark, Juan, Slim (Ashley) along with our special guest @aachmanteca revisit the events that took place at Mark’s recent birthday celebration. Next the discussion gets deep on the topic of the recent lynchings happening that are disguised by supremacists as suicides. Also discussed, is the murder of Oluwatoyin Salau which provokes the conversation about how the unwarranted murder of black women go under the radar in comparison to their black male counterparts. Then we discuss the genius of Dave Chapelle‘s most recent comedy set and lastly we collect our thoughts on the season finale Issa Rae’s Insecure: Season 4. Hey Afrolit Fam, we decided to ask the controversial question that's probably been on everyone's mind at some point. It's even MORE pressing to now have conversations with black men to get their take and we decided to take things up a notch and have the first AFROLIT DEBATE to argue the statement: All men above the age of 18 have assaulted and/or have witnessed or been told about an assault but remained silent within the situation. We discussed: - Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network's (RAINN) definition of sexual assault - Power dynamics between men and women - Why men need more emotional intelligence - Believing women FIRST, before stories come - Can African's truly separate sex from culture and religion? - How we HAVE to have this conversation outside and it can't stop here! In today's episode, Bleak makes an admission that no one sees coming. We discuss how each of us plans to transition along with the rest of the country into a world that reopening faster that we'd imagined, sexual assault in light of Oluwatoyin Salau's murder at the hands of her abuse and the importance of checking yourself and your mans, the recent debacles surround B. Simone, and a review of the season finale of Insecure. Enjoy!
In this episode we discuss Juneteenth with Writer/Poet/teacher/activist, Angela Shanté, as well as her new book, The Noisy Classroom. Take a listen!!
The tragic murder of George Floyd was the catalyst that set off protests in all 50 states and around 13 countries. Only small crowds have gathered specifically for the female victims of police brutality like Breonna Taylor, who would have been celebrating her 27th birthday this month, or Atatiana Jefferson, whose case seems to have faded from the nation's collective memory. We've all seen social media posts about protecting Black men, but what of their female counterparts, who stand at the crossroads of oppression between racism and sexism? What of Oluwatoyin Salau, a young black female activist who was sexually assaulted and murdered at the hands of a black man? Annie and Alexa discuss the male-centric leaning of the Black Lives Matter movement, Black women and girls on the frontlines, and the sudden “love” that seems to emerge for Black women in times of crisis. Who protects us?
The guys are back. They tried to have a great and fun episode last week but it's back to the heavy conversations again. This episode they start with a conversation about the tragic deaths of Oluwatoyin Salau and Victoria Sims. There was an incident where a guy hit a young woman in the face with a skateboard and the guys really let it be known how they felt about the whole situation. They then started to talk about Roger Goodell who is the commissioner of the NFL and his new stance on Black Lives Matter. They also had to touch on the NBA and the Orlando Bubble where they plan to restart the season. They finish with a topic that was a question from the wife of one of the guys. Is the idea of The Man Of The House still a thing in 2020. This is another great episode. Please check it out and if your rock with it, please share it with a friend.
In this week's episode we discuss the murder of Rayshard Brooks, the structural invisibility of black women with the murder of Oluwatoyin Salau and voter suppressive tactics experienced by Farah and Afnan.

As most of you may know, for the past few weeks there have been protests worldwide over the murders and questionable deaths of unarmed black people, the miscarriages of justice which follow these incidents, and the unbridled use of force by law enforcement officers. We at Interrupting Podcast normally try to keep it light and provide family friendly laughs. But we can't remain silent while these atrocities persist. Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd — and since this episode was recorded, Rayshard Brooks, Robert Fuller, Malcolm Harsch, and Oluwatoyin Salau — are just the latest in a long list of reprehensible murders. We think it is clear that there is a severe need for reformation in public service. We will continue to listen and learn. We stand with the black lives which are affected by the long history of inequity and injustice. Black lives DO matter. Welcome back to another episode! This week the crew decided to dedicate the majority of the content of this episode to black women. The crew discussed the recent and tragic passing of Oluwatoyin Salau, and responded to the recent outburst of black women expressing that they are often unheard and feel unprotected by black men. We wanted to make sure that we discussed this topic with sincerity and as thorough as we could, particularly in these trying times. From there the crew discusses the recent propositions/idea of black people receiving reparations for slavery and what they would spend their money on if it was to happen. Tune in to another great episode.
In this “Sinister Myth: Case Study”, Natarshia Corley tackles the killing of Florida activist Oluwatoyin Salau, questioning to what extent black women's lives lost are registered in the struggle to end the violence. Natarshia Corley is a graduate student at the Ohio State University, working in the Self, Stereotypes, and Social Norms Lab. Sinister Myth Case Studies feature recent news stories that may have been overlooked and that tell us something important about how stories we tell perpetuate violence. Please note that these recent podcasts were recorded under pandemic conditions, and so we were not able to record them in the studio.

Today on the Sup podcast, Amanda and Alise share some developments in police reform from the White House and NYPD, including an executive order form Trump that does virtually nothing to address racial justice and the militarized police presence in American cities. Then they discuss the murder of Oluwatoyin Salau, a 19-year-old activist who was found dead despite pleading for help via Twitter, and the deaths of Robert Fuller and Malcolm Harsh, two Black men who were found dead by hanging in California.
