Y'all, comedy has gone through some wild transformations over the years—not just in what tickles our funny bones, but in how humor reflects the times. What once had us rolling on the floor might now feel pretty cringe or even feel straight up offensive. Who better to unpack all this with than one of “The Original Kings of Comedy”— Cedric the Entertainer? He's giving us the scoop on everything from his daughter dating Toni Braxton's son (yes, you heard that right!) to why Steve Harvey might not want to do a “The Original Kings of Comedy” reunion. Grab a seat (or roll around on the floor), because this episode is serving laughs, wisdom, and all the tea.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! On August 9, 2008, Bernie Mac -- star of countless movies and one of The Original Kings of Comedy -- died in a Chicago hospital after a lengthy battle with a rare lung disease. Although he only found mainstream success later in life, Mac left an indelible mark on the comedy world with his brash style that blended his often shockingly provocative takes with genuine paternal warmth. Known as one of the Original Kings of Comedy with Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and Cedric the Entertainer—the legendary comedian, Bernie Mac, is now featured in a book of inspirational quotes and daily motivations called, “I Don't Care If You Like Me, I Like Me.” A native of Chicago, Bernie Mac developed a comedic style of storytelling that was aggressive, honest, and straight-up, in-your-face humor that only he could uniquely pull off or get away with onstage and onscreen. His wife, Rhonda McCullough, held on to old tapes and vintage recordings of the Emmy award-winning actor to construct the book where each day of the year features an interesting quote of affirmation in the voice of Bernie Mac. Join Host Eddie Robinson as he speaks candidly with his wife, Rhonda McCullough, about why she chose this format to pay tribute to her late husband, who died in 2008 from complications of a disease known as sarcoidosis. I SEE U also chats unguarded with the master impressionist who served as the narrator of the audiobook, comedian Reggie Reg.
Andrew and Vieves look at commercials that feature some stand-up comedy greats and are left asking: why are so many of these ads not funny? Plus, an Ad Councilor makes the definitive case for the loathsomeness of mimes and the great comedian impressions continue.
Welcome actor, comedian, and game show host Cedric the Entertainer. "Comedians aren't here to teach you a lesson. We're here to reflect on society, and sometimes it ain't pretty. Sometimes it's not the way we all like it.” - Cedric the Entertainer Cedric sits down with Ruben to break down cancel culture and the negative impact it has had for comedians around the country. He also talks about the evolution of entertainment as a whole, celebrating the fact that social media has given everybody an equal shot at building their own platform. What's more, as the space continues to saturate because of how easy it is to produce content now, Cedric sees creativity coupled with authenticity as key to growing a loyal following. Finally, Cedric talks about his journey from corporate America to stand-up comedy. He offers his best advice to anyone looking to make the scary yet exciting leap away from traditional employee life into the career of their dreams. "Most people really want to skip the journey—the story. That's where it all is.” - Cedric the Entertainer SUBSCRIBE to Live Through Love so you never miss an episode & RATE/REVIEW it on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. New York City is a manifestation of where art, fashion, photography, and culture intersect. Even in the city that serves as a saturated cultural playground, there are few individuals who better represent and encapsulate such a spirit as masterfully as art critic, writer, and curator Antwaun Sargent, or Steven Irby, photographer and co-founder of Street Dreams Magazine. Hosts Jian DeLeon and Noah Thomas are joined by the two culture juggernauts to discuss the junction connecting photography, magazines, and fashion. But first, the quick hits reveal that Virgil’s back in the office and a new Off-White x Nike sneaker has already been in the works (1:50). The Vapor Street is finally available after it made its first appearance a few seasons ago during the brand’s women’s runway show. After talking a couple sneaker misses, the cast is fired up with the Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS GEL-KORIKA along with its eccentric campaign featuring Juergen Teller and his dad bod (5:14). Speaking of chunky, Antwaun pinpoints how GOLF le FLEUR* and Converse’s all-new silhouette, the GLF Gianno Ox, seems like it came straight out of an episode of Doug (6:43). Will Tyler, the Creator be infusing his pastel palettes into high-end fashion any time soon? Jian and Noah pit Antwaun and Steve against each other in a game of “Boutique or Gallery,” where the two guests guess whether the names dropped are fashion boutiques or art galleries (18:50). Antwaun flexes his knowledge of galleries before moving on to talk about his first book, The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion which delves deeper into the conversation on black representation in art, specifically the new generation of photographers who are bridging art and fashion (23:01). He seamlessly transitions into Street Dreams Magazine, asking Steve to share his motivations for creating the publication (30:43). The project builds upon his passion for photography, and has initiated a phenomenon that transcends the original confines of social media and its relationship with the medium of photography. This episode’s segment of “What’d You Cop?” saw a healthy week for Antwaun and Steve (39:07). The former got his hands on the new Pyer Moss sneakers, a gallery shirt from Grace Wales Bonner’s exhibition at the Serpentine, and cologne from Le Labo. Steve copped a pair of Noah (hemmed and tailored) suit pants, a Futura toy from his weekend in LA, and Uber Eats throughout the week. Recorded at Essentials of Emergency Medicine 2017, Greg Moran, MD reviews current thinking on cellulitis diagnosis and management. Greg is a professor of emergency medicine at Olive View-UCLA medical center who, in addition to emergency medicine, is fellowship trained in infectious disease and has over 100 publications in journals including: New England Journal of Medicine, British Medical journal, JAMA, Lancet, and Annals of Emergency Medicine. Greg is a thought leader in the field of emergency infectious disease and a super nice guy. In this segment, Greg covers: a common cellulitis mimic; admit vs discharge of patients with cellulitis; what bugs cause cellulitis and, taking that into account, what antibiotic should I use- double coverage, single coverage? The great cellulitis mimic: Stasis Dermatitis Similar in appearance to cellulitis Often bilateral (where cellulitis is usually unilateral) Risk factors include venous stasis, lymphedema Fluid goes into the interstitial space -> into the dermis -> and then causes superficial redness and irritation Treatment Many recommendations out there, many of them consensus, opinion or based on weak data Elevation Compression if the patient can tolerate it Wet dressings if there is crusting and exudative eczema Topical steroids (medium to high potency) such as triamcinolone, fluocinonide, fluticasone ointments If you think there could be infection at play, consider a short course of oral antibiotics (also consider topical if there’s a break in the skin or part of the leg is looking particularly red and angry) Admit or go home? Inpatient mortality for cellulite is low (somewhere in the low single digits percent) No validated decision instruments regarding admission or discharge 2014 study Predictors of Failure of Empiric Outpatient Antibiotic Therapy in Emergency Department Patients With Uncomplicated Cellulitis found that fever, chronic leg ulcers, edema, lymphedema, cellulitis at a wound site or recurrent in the same area were risk factors for outpatient treatment failure Does this mean that patients with these risk factors need mandatory admission?
