Welcome To Horror Presents: “The We Have Been Watching Invasion of Earth”. It's time for our semi-regular round up of all the entertainments we've been sticking into our brains for the past few weeks (and no laughing at the word “semi” please, we're all grown ups). This time round there's quite an international flavour as we discuss Soviet masterpiece “Viy” (1967); 2 movies from South Korea in modern classic “Train to Busan” (2016) and the “Tucker & Dale…” reimagining “Handsome Guys” (2024); fantastic Norwegian comedy “Troll Hunter” (2010); and the breathtaking 1922 Danish/Swedish silent documentary “Häxan” (and it's William Burroughs narrated 1968 version, “Witchcraft Through the Ages”). We also cover hit podcast “Broken Veil” (2025), 1982's “The Slumber Party Massacre”; “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” and “The Book of the Witch” (both 2024). Plus there are honourable mentions for “Battle Beyond the Stars”; and the anthology shows “Tales of Unease” and “Armchair Thriller”. There should be no need to prep for this ep, but listeners beware, as here be (possible) spoilers and (definite) swearing. Join us!

Today, our attention turned to the fact that the skills shortage continues to be one of the very biggest issue the industry faces – as we face a black hole of a lack of tradespeople in the future. So today, Clive wanted to know – would you actually volunteer your time to help the next generation in schools? We were joined by Hannah Dendy from VIY for some info about their projects – as well as great friend of the show George from GM Joinery for his thoughts…There's also the pub lunch quiz for your chance to grab 6 points, as well as the very best messages we received!

This week we cap off September with four sweetly brief movies holding runtimes under 80 minutes. England, 1941, German planes fill the night skies and the Angel of Portobello is giving accurate warnings to the public, keeping casualties to a minimum. Broadcasting secretly, the Hanbury sisters have built an incredible machine that can and will change history as we are aware of it. A feature debut of impressive technical mastery, LOLA. Philip Winthrop travels to his fiancée's childhood home, a crumbling old structure on blighted land, to bring her back to Boston. He doesn't expect the opposition her brother brings to his plans, begging him to allow them to silently fall apart with the house. The wall cracks increase with both men's desperation to achieve their desired outcomes. The first of Roger Corman's Poe Cycle for American International Pictures, House of Usher. When Khoma Brutus and his friends are lost on their way home to their seminary, they take refuge in the home of a witch for the night. Events will soon conspire for Khoma to stand a three night vigil for the soul daughter of a rich merchant and witchy revenge. A Soviet era classic based on the story by Nikolai Gogol, Viy. A vacationing American couple go scuba diving, only to find themselves left behind by their tour boat. Stranded, miles from anywhere without any supplies and a circle of sharks tightening around them, the couple tries to endure. Inspired by actual events that had a lasting impact on the scuba tourism industry and left a mystery that will never be solved, Open Water. All that and we prepare for the delights of October. Join us, won't we? Episode 328- In a Blink

The October Spooktacular continues. This week we're joined by Nikita of Svn.Seeker to discuss the sole horror movie produced by the Soviet Union, Viy (1967). Let's come together and enjoy how much these filmmakers dislike the Russian Orthodox Church. Let's take a look at some delightful practical effects and camera tricks that filmmakers were using over 50 years ago. They don't make them like these anymore, folks (horror movies and communist states). We're also talking about Connecticut, going DIY, and collecting metal bandcamp squares like Pokemon. Next week: Body Melt (available on Tubi). And if you wanna get prepared for the Patreon-subscriber-only bonus show, we'll be watching Society (1989). Music featured on this week's show: Svn.Seeker – Pilfered This program is available on Spotify. It is also available on iTunes or whatever they call it now, where you can rate, review, and subscribe. This week we're joined by The Horror Guru, host of Blood Splattered Cinema, to watch 1988 horror shlock fest Hard Rock Nightmare. This movie is notable for a few reasons. First up: the opening scene is so goddamned jarring that I can offer no comparison. The less fun reason: Hard Rock Nightmare was written and directed by Dominick Brascia who, we discovered in the process of putting this episode together, had an insanely checkered past. He accused Charlie Sheen of abusing Corey Haim. Corey Haim's mother then publicly accused Dominick Brascia of abusing Corey Haim. Brascia died very shortly after. So, if you feel so inclined, you can watch this movie on Shudder and then join us for a discussion on a movie that is, charitably, very shitty. Next week: 1967 Soviet horror film Viy (available on Shudder and YouTube). And if you wanna get prepared for the Patreon-subscriber-only bonus show, we'll be watching Society (1989). This week Drusilla and Joshua watched the Soviet/Ukrainian horror film, Viy, which was the first and possibly only Soviet horror film. Josh watched Werewolves Within, which leads to a discussion of little dogs and the people who hate them and/or hate to see them die. Drusilla watched the criminally underrated John Ritter film, Stay Tuned, which leads into problematic Jeffrey Jones and another dog. The pair briefly acknowledges the situation in Ukraine. Introducing the film requires a little discussion about Ukraine's place in the USSR and Gogol's history. This is a folkloric pagan horror included in Severin's folk horror boxset, All the Haunts Be Ours. It's kind of like Sondheim's Into the Woods. The pair does a deep dive on the plot, aesthetic, and legacy with plenty of tangents along the way. Then they play Have They Seen It before signing off, but not before announcing the next movie, 1973's Don't Look Now. In this episode, Drusilla and Josh discuss one of the chicest lesbian vampire films of all time, The Hunger. It's so chic that Drusilla wore a beret! Drusilla watched Mill of the Stone Women and Josh watched Netflix's new Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), which was surprisingly good. The duo discusses the sequels in brief and the general pitfalls of sequels and reboots. Then they get into the feature which stars Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon, and David Bowie. They discuss the less-than-stellar reviews from the time and how it compares to the 80s vampire films that followed. Drusilla and Josh go through the narrative, which takes them down tangents like whether or not New York has alleyways and the makeup effects. The studio ruined the ending, maybe. Finally, Drusilla and Josh play Have They Seen It. They also announce the next feature, which is the Ukrainian horror film, Viy.
