We are back again, and this time we're returning to a classic show theme for another Part 2, this one focusing on the Five-Finger Fanfare (a term coined by the Super Marcato Bros. on their excellent and seminal VGM podcast). This is a term used to describe a run of 5 notes that line up with the first 5 notes of the minor scale - a technique used frequently in video game music. Will you be able to hear the Five-Finger Fanfares in each piece of Very Good Music the hosts brought to this episode? Only one way to find out! As always, we appreciate our amazing patrons who supported us for so long, as well as the artists who made our show art and theme song. Pixelated Audio is back from a wonderful weekend at VGMCon in Minnesota! Gene was slated to represent us but along the way drummed up a party including Pernell from Rhythm and Pixels, Carlos from Heroes Three, and Thomas Kresge head of the Game Brass (check out their new album Barrel Brassed)! When in Minnesota do as the Minnesotans do, as the saying goes. We had a fun time talking about all manner of VGM related to the Midwest; the region itself, games about the area and made there, as well as composers from the area. Getting more specific we cover pinball and edutainment in some level of depth before the panel devolves into talking about Shrek, cheese, and endless trips cross country. It's a fun journey through a diverse range of VGM and we hope you enjoy the show we put together. Pardon the noise in the background, it was the best we could do with a portable recorder. Just in time for Halloween, Karl & Will share a playlist of SPOOKY music by the Super Marcato Bros! And also play a Halloween rendition of Name That Tune! Enjoy this fun and special episode. Happy Halloween!
Greetings, gamers, and welcome to episode 2-2! On this episode, we dive into a topic first popularized by the Super Marcato Bros, Karl and Will Bruegeman, on their own VGM podcast: a compositional technique called the Five-Finger Fanfare. Also included in the show is a clip from their 201st episode, which aired on January 31st, 2016.This was an exciting and challenging episode to put together, and the track list is the result of many months of making mental notes each time we'd come across this sound in the wild. It's not exactly something you can type into a search bar! Regardless, everything fits our Number One Rule: Everything is very good music!Special thanks to our Patreon patrons, Alex “The Messenger” Messenger of A VGM Journey, The Last Rican, Skeletroy, and Carlos from the Heroes Three Podcast! If you’d like to support us on Patreon, go to www.patreon.com/vgmvgm. Thanks also to Carlos and to Ben "The Diad" Dishman for our show's artwork, and to Skeletroy for the Very Good Theme Song! In this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, several members of the Game Informer family say, "Goodbye." Sadly, this is my last week as Game Informer's editor in chief. Coincidentally, senior editor Matthew Kato and video producer Leo Vader are also moving on to the next stage of their careers as well, and will no longer call GI home. While this is sad for many of us, we take the chance to celebrate their contributions and wish them well. We continue to do this show from our homes as we hunker down in quarantine, so please forgive us for any audio or video hiccups as we deliver content outside the studio. Thanks for listening! Please make sure to leave feedback below, share the episode if you enjoyed it, and follow me @therealandymc, or Matthew @MattKato, and Leo @leovader to let them know how much you love them. You can watch the video above, subscribe and listen to the audio on iTunes or Google Play, listen on SoundCloud, stream it on Spotify, or download the MP3 at the bottom of the page. Also, be sure to send your questions to podcast@gameinformer.com for a chance to have them answered on the show. Our thanks to the talented Super Marcato Bros. for The Game Informer Show's intro song. You can hear more of their original tunes and awesome video game music podcast at their website. On this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we take our closest look yet at Cyberpunk 2077 and discuss what we thought of our time actually playing CD Projekt Red's long-awaited RPG. So please join me, Kim Wallace, Matt Miller, Dan "The Jacket" Tack, Brian Shea, and Alex Stadnik for another wild and entertaining episode! On this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we dissect the entirety of EA Play and let you know what we think of Star Wars: Squadrons, Lost in Random, and whether or not the publishing giant nailed its digital event. Later, we briefly touch upon the Cyberpunk 2077 delay, predict what we think next week's Pokémon event will reveal, and wrap the show with the return of Community Emails. Observant fans will note that I am in fact not Andy McNamara. Due to the EA event being past his bedtime, Andy wasn't able to make this week's episode work. Instead, I had the absolute pleasure of hosting with the help of the amazing Andrew Reiner, Matthew Kato, Ben Reeves, Joe Juba, and Jeff Cork. We continue to do this show from our homes as we hunker down in quarantine, so please forgive us for any audio or video hiccups as we deliver content outside the studio. Hosting The GI Show was an amazing experience, but also my first time. Please send me any and all constructive feedback for the show on Twitter, and be sure to share the show if you enjoyed it! We really want to continue to better the podcast, and your comments are instrumental in that, so thank you to everyone who's already done so. On this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we discuss Sony's The Future of Gaming event where it revealed the PlayStation 5 hardware and showed glimpses of over 25 games, including Horizon II: Forbidden West, Deathloop, Resident Evil Village, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Please join me, Alex Stadnik, Jeff Cork, and Dan "The Jacket" Tack for our reactions, both good and bad. Since filming this podcast, Insomniac commented that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a "standalone game," and Bethesda has since clarified the multiplayer components of Deathloop (that said, we definitely hint at all these things in our discussions). Welcome to the newest episode of The Game Informer Show aka the Leocast! This week, Leo Vader takes the reins and is joined by Jeff Cork, Joe Juba, and I to chat about why the new third-person shooter Outriders had them buzzing after visiting People Can Fly's studio in Poland. After dissecting Outrider's gaming goodness, we examine the latest Anthem news out of Bioware and discuss if it can become the game we were all hoping it would with the studio going dark to create a clearer vision of the sci-fi shooter. Wrapping up the show, we rope Dan Tack into the madness and tackle a huge community email section that had us in stitches and questioning our sanity all the way through. Thanks for listening! Stay tuned until the end of the show to also see the exclusive reveal of our 2019 Game of the Year! Thanks for listening! 400 episodes!! Can you believe it!? Karl, Will, Marty, Carlos, Stephen & Bryan celebrate this huge milestone for the Super Marcato Bros. Video Game Music Podcast, with a very special, nostalgic and fun episode! Enjoy this celebration, and thank you for helping us get this far!!
Come join us as we reminisce about our sojourn to the wondrous world of Benaroya Hall in downtown sunny and heatwave-drenched Seattle as the boys (and two girls) ventured into the halls of retromancy (wait... not what that means) and modernity. Uematsu and Hama-isuzutrooper are at their heights this week! Topics include which FFs are our favorite, which we [haven't] played, which ones have the best OSTs, which videogame music podcasts you should listen to (just kidding, we didn't talk about this but I have a couple), and which games we want to play just based on the FMVs we saw as each game was being showcased behind the orchestra - a question we were inspired to ask by having seen Zelda performances elsewhere. These truly are some master works, some of the defining works that will last beyond many other pieces of the medium's finest productions, perhaps even outliving a world in which "Final Fantasy" is a common household franchise to namedrop. Some say Uematsu is regarded as a celebrity in Japan, and some of these pieces - especially some of the earlier ones, say some in our group - really bring that point home. Relevant links! Nobody knows who that is: Ross GellerPenny Arcade: Annarchy (this is hanging on Will's wall y'all)Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - Tifa vs. Loz Relevant podcasts!
