Sometimes you just need a good diversion to distract you from the dumpster fire that is modern life and few things can immediately take you on the emotional rollercoaster like a good satirical dystopian narrative so I've got first time guest Alice Darrow on with me today to help me break down what is the surprise comic book of 2025 for me, Tramps of the Apocalypse. Sitting somewhere between Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and Idiocracy, this is a hilarious dressing down of the modern manosphere through the lens of three damsels causing much distress in 2094 in a world ruled by Quest Ragnor, King Of Males as terrible dudes seek to do what terrible dudes would do in a scenario such as this. Do yourself a favor and make sure to put it on your radar. Tramps of the Apocalypse from Dark Horse Comics From the publisher The year is 2094, and men rule the world. So what has changed in seventy years, you ask? Following the ten-year Sildenafil wars of 2053, Earth has become a barren wasteland. Factions of surviving men led by “Quest Ragnor, King of Males” have taken over the remnants of cities and towns across the globe, capturing and enslaving all women…Well, all women except for three super bimbos with unparalleled bloodlust and an unquenchable thirst for violence: Baby, Belladonna, and Babette. Unwilling to bend to the whims and desires of the buffoons in charge, too slippery to be caught, and too sexy for chains, these three bangin' babes are at the top of Quest Ragnor's most wanted list. Unfortunately for him, they couldn't care less. PATREON We have a new Patreon, CryptidCreatorCornerpod. If you like what we do, please consider supporting us. We got two simple tiers, $1 and $3. Welcome to another episode of Inglourious Blue Balls: A Basterds Work Left Undone, the monthly series dedicated to exploring the gargantuan pile of unfulfilled project announcements, spewed from the mouth of Quentin Tarantino. Joining me on this daunting journey is my co-host, Friar Wheeler (Owner of Scare Flair Records). Next up on the docket we look at an announcement Tarantino made back in January of 2008 when he claimed he'd like to do a raunchy remake of Russ Meyers' the cult 1966 sexploitation film, Faster, Pussycat! Today's poem is the best-remembered work of the beloved “nonsense poet” Edward Lear–a silly lyric about a serious love. The episode also features a few guest readers. Happy reading.Edward Lear, the British poet and painter known for his absurd wit, was born on May 12, 1812, in Highgate, England, a suburb of London, and began his career as an artist at age fifteen. His father, a stockbroker of Danish origin, was sent to debtor's prison when Lear was thirteen, forcing the young Lear to earn a living. Lear quickly gained recognition for his work and, in 1832, was hired by the London Zoological Society to execute illustrations of birds. In the same year, the Earl of Derby invited him to reside at his estate; Lear ended up staying until 1836.Lear's first book of poems, A Book of Nonsense (Routledge, Warne, and Routledge, 1846) was composed for the grandchildren of the Derby household. Around 1836, Lear decided to devote himself exclusively to landscape painting, although he continued to compose light verse. Between 1837 and 1847, Lear traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. After his return to England, Lear's travel journals were published in several volumes as The Illustrated Travels of a Landscape Painter. Popular and respected in his day, Lear's travel books have largely been ignored in the twentieth century. Rather, Lear is remembered for his humorous poems, such as “The Owl and the Pussycat,” and as the creator of the form and meter of the modern limerick. Like his younger peer Lewis Carroll, Lear wrote many deeply fantastical poems about imaginary creatures, such as “The Dong with the Luminous Nose.” His books of humorous verse also include Nonsense Songs, Stories, Botany, and Alphabets (James R. Osgood and Company, 1871) and Laughable Lyrics: a Fourth Book of Nonsense Poems, Songs, Botany, Music, &c.(Robert John Bush, 1877).Edward Lear died on January 29, 1888, in San Remo, Italy, at the age of seventy-six.-bio via Academy of American Poets This is a public episode. One a basic level, ‘60s cinema is the story of the complete breakdown of censorship rules about what could and could not be shown on American theater screens. Hollywood's Production Code was already falling apart in the ‘50s when competition with television forced movies to offer kinds of entertainment that were not available on the small screen. Films from countries with fewer restrictions on content were being shown more frequently and naturist documentaries were getting around rules about nudity – though you had to go to “art” cinemas or less reputable theaters to see these things. While the studios still had strict guidelines on what was acceptable for release in mainstream theaters, smaller theaters were pushing boundaries on what they were willing to show audiences. As a result, Hollywood, in order to keep up, threw all their old self-censorship rules by the end of the ‘60s.One of the major figures on the grindhouse circuit who continued to push the amount of sex and nudity that could be shown in films throughout the decade – and made enough money doing it for the studios to really take notice – was Russ Meyer. His goofy, satirical, surprisingly well-made exploitation films were cutting-edge smut that gained popularity over the course of the ‘60s because they delivered the sleaze they promised and dis it with skill and style. Eventually he gained a cult reputation among cineastes and reputable film critics that continues to this day, even though many of his films are more shocking by modern standards than they were when they first hit screens. In this episode, Bart and Jenna discuss all things boobs, sexual desperation and boobs. Bart takes on the brunt of the burden, getting through the entire decade and finding there's more to Meyer than pure titillation. Jenna, however, is less than enthused with Meyer's ‘comedic' sensibilities, finding Bart's cherry-picked selections mostly intolerable. But even both agree that at least a little bit of Meyer is essential viewing for anybody who want to understand the what the decade in cinema was all about. The following films are discussed:• Lorna (1964) Directed by Russ Meyer Starring Lorna Maitland, Mark Bradley, James Rucker• Mudhoney (1965) Directed by Russ Meyer Starring Hal Hopper, Antoinette Cristiani, John Furlong• Faster, Pussycat! Boss Keith entered the box this morning at 6 AM, for the final 3-hour stint of the Battle of the Box. Chaz and AJ did not reveal the song he'd be listening to until after his Vince Berry intro, and he sat down to start the shift. (0:00) Fox 61's Matt Scott was on the phone to recap his time in the box from last night, enduring 2 hours of DeBarge. Plus, the difficulty he had trying to interview Chaz for a live hit, shortly after he walked into the box. (7:38) WFSB's Scot Haney called in to talk about the Battle of the Box, and agreed to join Chaz for a 24-hour shift in 2025, if a certain donation threshold could be met. (20:28) Boss Keith had to endure more than just Tom Jones' "What's New, Pussycat?" for three hours, as flutes and piccolos showed up, and the Rum Runners played a special parody song just for him. John Pierson from News 8 was on site to help with the play-by-play for Chaz and AJ. (36:53) Keith finally exits the box, and Ruth tallies all of the donations for each and every participant. Are Chaz and Scot Haney going to be spending 24 hours in a box together next year? (54:22)

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today is Barbra Streisand day! And what a day it is. Just one day after Babs herself announced the start to production of her approved documentary film, in which she plans to unveil the creative contents of her quite famous vault, we here at The B-Side tackle some of the legend's lesser-seen films. They include The Owl and the Pussycat, Up the Sandbox, For Pete's Sake, Nuts, and The Guilt Trip. Our guest on this long-in-the-making journey is Chris Feil, co-host of the incredible This Had Oscar Buzz podcast. We talk about the autobiography in all of its glory. We talk about Barbra's early years, Barbra's late years, her passion for design, her complicated history with movie directors, and her best albums. There's also hefty discussion about A-side Yentl, and why it's funnier and sexier than you remember. It's also a masterpiece. There's debate about how much The Guilt Trip ultimately worked, how exactly Barbra mastered playing a “regular person” by the time The Prince of Tides comes around, and how Nuts would've been better if Barbra had directed it. Additional highlights include mistaking Philip Bosco for Karl Malden, celebrating Richard Dreyfuss playing bothered to perfection, and Chris' post-TIFF takes. Mike Leigh and Marianne Jean-Baptiste save us! And just to note, if you're in NYC for NYFF62, come on out to one (or all!) of our four Cinephile Game Nights, on 9/28. 9/29, 9/30, and 10/8! EPISODE 16 - “Beginner's Luck” - 01/01/2024 To win an Oscar sometimes takes decades of hard work and dedication to your craft — just ask PAUL NEWMAN, GERALDINE PAGE, and JESSICA TANDY. In fact, when Newman finally won the Oscar in 1987 for “The Color of Money,” after being nominated six times previously, he didn't even bother to show up to the ceremony. “It's like chasing a beautiful woman for 80 years,” he told the Associated Press. “Finally, she relents and you say, ‘I'm terribly sorry. I'm tired.'” However, there is a small group of actors who didn't have to chase that beautiful Oscar for 80 years. They won for their very first film. This week we take a look at this rarified group. Imagine your best selling novel being transformed into a huge tv series in the USA. That's what happened to Alexandra Potter, author of Confessions of a Forty-Something F-Up! Her brilliantly funny inter-generational book was optioned by Disney and will premiere on Disney+ and ABC on 7 February (a month or two later in the UK) renamed 'Not Dead Yet'. Alexandra joins Liz and Michelle to explain how realising that her life, and those of her friends, were nothing like the perfect lives being conveyed on social media inspired her to write her latest novel. This fun episode provides an insight into what is like to have a novel turned into a TV show by one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world and to know that failing doesn't really mean failure. KEY TAKEAWAYS At a certain age, women start to become invisible, despite the fact they have so much to offer which is one reason Alexandra made sure she included older female characters in her novel. It does not matter if you are in Yorkshire, London, or LA all women have similar relatable experiences and feel the same about things. The way society works makes most people feel like failures when, in reality, they are not failing. It´s never too late and you are never too old to change and do what you want. BEST MOMENTS “We were talking about James Bond actors .. and who walks in? Timothy Dalton” “I was looking at all these kinds of amazing lives, perfect lives, everybody was leading. And it looked nothing like the life I was leading.” “I just think that women when they age, they become invisible… it just drives me nuts” “It was kind of like Cinderella going to the ball,” “You don´t have to put these age limits on things,” If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, and review it on your podcast platform. EPISODE RESOURCES Alexandra Potter Website Hulu Not Dead Yet Official Trailer Book - Confessions of a Forty-something F##k Up ABOUT ALEXANDRA POTTER Born and raised in Yorkshire, Alexandra lived in Australia and LA for several years before settling back in the UK. Now back in London with her Californian husband and a Bosnian rescue dog, Alexandra loves getting out into nature, trying not to look at her phone, and navigating this thing called mid-life. Her first novel, What's New, Pussycat? was published in 2000, a week before her 30th birthday, and immediately made the top ten. She has written 12 novels to date. Including Be Careful What You Wish For, Me and Mr. Darcy, which won the Best New Fiction Award at the Jane Austen Regency World Awards. As well as Love From Paris which was shortlisted for the RNA Comedy Award. Her latest novel, Confessions of a Forty-something F##k Up, has now been turned into a tv series by Disney+ for ABC in the States, starring Gina Rodriguez as Nell. The show premieres on 8 February of this year. “Not Dead Yet" follows Nell Stevens (Rodriguez), a broke and newly single self-described disaster, working to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. When she lands the only job she can find – writing obituaries, Nell starts getting life advice from an unlikely source.” ABOUT THE HOSTS Liz Copping is a networking pro & event consultant, leaping out of her comfort zone to co-host this podcast. We talk about real concerns, issues, and fun topics that affect us, our friends, and our family.
