For 15 months after he was released from prison, Michael Alig, also known as the Party Monster, lived with David Maurici. Sour Candy & Chaos chronicles the crazy situations that swirled around Michael Alig during his post-prison return to New York City. This is the story of his new book; SOUR CANDY and CHAOS; My Life with the Party Monster - the aftermath of a True Crime. To watch on YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=przpvpS56qwMichael Alig was a notorious figure in the New York City nightlife scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, known as the "King of the Club Kids." These Club Kids included Susanne Bartsch, Ernie Glam (David's husband and Michael's former flatmate), Amanda Lepore, and RuPaul, and created a movement that influenced fashion, art and popular culture. Alig's flamboyant personality and outrageous parties made him a central figure in the city's club culture, characterized by its extravagant costumes and hedonistic atmosphere. However, his fame took a dark turn in 1996 when he was convicted of the m-rder of fellow club kid Andre "Angel" Melendez. Alig and his roommate, Robert "Freeze" Riggs, k-ll-d Melendez in a brutal altercation fueled by drugs. The crime and its subsequent media coverage shocked the public, revealing a dark underside of the seemingly glamorous club scene. After serving 17 years in prison, Alig was released in 2014, but he struggled to reclaim his former notoriety and died of a h-r-in overdose in 2020. Hosted on Acast. Caution! Mess with this bear and you're gonna get the claws-or at least the pinky one. I chatted with the dexterously debonaire Broody Valentino about being a bear of paradise in a land full of flannels, bringing the DRAMA to New York City Boylesque, gothing out with the gurls of SqueezeBox, supersizing the glamour and burlesquing beauty standards, cuddling with pigeons and making marionettes cry, structured madness with the inimitable Susanne Bartsch, and why you don't have to try so hard to be sexy because, baby, you already are. Shout outs to Matt Knife, Jonny Porkpie, Violet Chachki, Dirty Martini, Patti LuPone, Susanne Bartsch, Amanda Lepore, and the timeless Kermit the Frog. Balancing theatricality and camp has garnered him the epithet “The Telenovela of Burlesque” which has allowed him to: perform for the 2020 Virtual Burlesque Hall of Fame (VHOF), the 2018 Life Ball in Vienna, Austria, headline at the 2019 Capitol Burlesque Expo in Ottawa, Canada, receive the Legends Award at the 2018 Burlypicks World Championship, and be crowned the reigning King of New Jersey Burlesque at the New Jersey Burlesque Festival. Artist Scooter LaForge is a delight. To be honest, I somehow felt like connecting with him on this show was healing for me-now who's the shrink!? Scooter's work is amazing and so instinctual- he cannot not do it. Even though he's worked with big names like he is as humble as can be. So much to learn from his perspective—growing up as a gay man in a tiny town in Arizona. I have to say I was envious hearing of all the free-range outdoor time he had, but alas the town, it's sounds really small and devoid of gays which means a pretty homogenous group of people (boring!) Scooter is the best of what an artist is—someone fueled by their work and satisfied because of it. He complimented me a lot, so I'm going to give him an A as a guest rating. Follow and learn more about Scooter HERE: https://www.scooter-laforge.com/ Instagram @scooterlaforge @scooter_laforge_a_life_of_art/ BIO: Scooter Laforge began his love affair with art at a very young age while growing up in the small town of Las Cruces, New Mexico. His burning desire to render things beautifully began with his singer/songwriter mother, and his landscape painting father; both equally inspired his creativity and lust for art. Laforge's work can be characterized as Pop Art partnered with abstract expressionism and Dutch classicism. His paintings and drawings are portraitures, landscapes, and objective subject matter, utilizing his special painting techniques and incorporating his homoerotic, in your face, non-apologetic lifestyle. Like Golden Books on acid, his work employs a 50's illustrated storybook technique, modernized by 70's color palettes and are influenced heavily by gay pornography, cute fluffy animals, and sometimes iconic cartoons (i.e. SpongeBob Square Pants, The Cookie Monster, and Popeye and Brutis) which are reoccurring characters and themes within his work. LaForge earned his BFA from the University of Arizona in 1993,[5] and began his career as a painter in San Francisco.[6] He moved to New York City in 2001,[3] where he attended the Cooper Union School of Art under a fellowship.[8] His art is in the collections of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art[9] and Beth Rudin DeWoody.[10] LaForge has a line of hand-painted, unique clothing items that are sold through fashion stylist Patricia Field.[11] He has twice collaborated with Belgian fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck.[12][13] His clothing has been worn by Susanne Bartsch,[14] Sandra Bernhard,[15] Beyoncé,[8] Miley Cyrus,[6] Boy George,[3] Debbie Harry,[8] Nicki Minaj,[3] Madonna,[8] Iggy Pop,[3] Rihanna,[6] and Lil Wayne.[3]
Susanne Bartsch joins James St. James, Randy Barbato, and Fenton Bailey to gab about her early years in Europe, opening her clothing store in SoHo, and building her club empire in the '80s like the Copacabana, Bentley's, Savage, and of course the Love Balls.

We’re bringing you a bonus episode from Vogue’s new podcast, In Vogue: The 1990s. The 90s was influenced by fashion, music, innovation, and countercultures. From major fashion fundraisers to Madonna’s Vogue video, the 90s was a decade of queer visibility unlike ever before. But the road to acceptance was a rocky one. When the glamour of the 70s and the first gay pride parades glorified sexual liberation, fashion reflected the sensuality on the runways and magazines. But when the AIDS crisis of the 80s started killing thousands of gay and trans people, queer expression. was shadowed by the threat of the disease and the discrimination that came with it. By the 90s, the fashion community rallied around the queer community and began to acknowledge queer influence and inspiration within the industry. Hear interviews from Jose Extravaganza, Kimberly Jenkins, Tom Ford, Susanne Bartsch, Michael Kors, Lady Bunny, Dr. Valerie Steele, Lea DeLaria, Robin Givhan, and Kenneth Cole. In Episode 6 of Talk, Naked Season 2, Laura speaks to the queen of New York city nightlife, the legendary Susanne Bartsch. According to The New York Times, she is the night life equivalent of a couture label because of her incredible parties.
Hello hello hello! I am beyond delighted to bring you my next episode with the Queen of NYC, Susanne Bartsch. I shouldn't need to fill you in on who she is, but to sum her up in one word, it's ICON. If her name is unfamiliar to you, just do a quick google search, and you'll get a faint idea of the kind of lioness you're about to listen to. For more info you can also check out the Netflix documentary about her called ON TOP, that will make you feel like the least fashionable person in the entire world. This podcast has one purpose only, to promote her next level online parties, which she has put on every Thursday since Typhoon Corona washed up upon our shores and eviscerated our ability congregate together. Corona has effected all of us differently, but there is one community that has been effected dramatically, the arts. NYC is home to some of the best and brightest underground stars on the planet, and they rely on parties to make their living. They work their asses off, literally, and most of them don't have cushions of support to fall back on when things get tough. Artists need our help, while they are usually the fiercest people in the room, they are exceptionally vulnerable to a pandemic of this kind and can use all the love and support they can get. She is looking for a sponsor, to provide a small amount of money to pay the artists and Dj's she employs for these events, as well as people from around the world to tune in and join her Zoom revolution. So, here are the links for all of the next level projects she has put together during Quarantine, not to mention links to the masks and t-shirts she's also produced because she was NOT Netflix and chillin' during Quarantine, she was hustling. I love you Susanne, thank you for making the world a brighter, sparklier, more wonderful place one party at a time. LOVE ZOE PS HER PARTY IS TONIGHT GET ON THAT SHIT. 9 - 11 pm eastern. It's the most fun you'll ever have on Zoom. Traffic transgressions, driveway tantrums, and a potential first class ticket to internet infamy. We review two films, the socialite documentary ‘Susanne Bartsch: On Top’, and Paul Feig’s comedic thriller, ‘A Simple Favor’ (Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding). We croon that sweet, sweet Gin Blossom-y sound, drown our sorrows in tequila, and keep the vibe generally loopy. Don't get emotional, baby.

Alia Lorae, the Electro Empress is a twisted lovechild of Kate Bush and Bassnectar. She produces EDM that will make you both dance and think – dark, theatrical, and never without a sense of humor. A born performer, she has been singing ever since she could walk and talk. Given an early musical start, she attended the Suzuki Music School as a young child, then went on to join the Harmonaires - a nationally recognized, award-winning singing group with whom she performed at such venues as Shea Stadium and Carnegie Hall. Her early-years vocal recordings can also be found on Blake Rowe's "Circle of Life," a well-reviewed children's album released in 1994. Alia started playing with a small electric keyboard at age ten, and then graduated to a larger Yamaha keyboard on which she could record entire 16-track songs. From Elementary School through High School graduation, she excelled in the theater and arts programs, while at the same time churning out songs, visual art, and written fiction. During her college years, Alia honed her skills as a producer and performer. In 2007, she began performing as a back-up singer for Electro-Pop band The Velvet Code. They debuted new material at one of Susanne Bartsch and Kenny Kenny's dance party extravaganzas at the New York City club 'Area', to an audience of 3000+. After the band's founding member took the project to London, Alia began focusing on her first solo album. The music video for her first single, "Modern Monsters," hit the scene in October of 2010, and "The Mad and the Beautiful," a 9-song LP, was released later that December. Both the album and the video were met with glowing reviews, describing her sound as, "A much needed shot in the arm [for modern music]" (Vents Magazine), and "NIN meets Lady Gaga" (All What's Rock).
