Have you ever wondered how the “Got Milk?” campaign was started or what it was like to work with the celebrities and the celebrity photographers who helped make the campaign? Well, Bernie Hogya can tell you all about it because he was there from the beginning, all the way to the last frame. And that campaign reversed a 30-year decline in milk sales and became a pop culture phenomenon. In his career, he has worked with celebrities like Taylor Swift, Elton John, Van Halen, Tom Brady, Steven Tyler, Harrison Ford, The Rock and so many more. He also worked with photographers like Annie Liebowitz, Richard Avedon, David LaChapelle, Herb Ritz, and more. Il fotografo da sempre rappresenta le contraddizioni dell'American way of life.

Denis Curti"Jacques Henri Lartigue. [REBROADCAST FROM September 15, 2022] As a photographer, David LaChapelle's images have defined pop culture since the 90's, whether through the classic image of Tupac in a bathtub, the official album cover for Travis Scott's Astroworld, or photos of models such as Amanda Lepore and Angelina Jolie. While he is known for his iconic celebrity portraits, his art also makes social commentary on capitalism and celebrity, sometimes described as "kitsch pop surrealism." The photographer's largest retrospective ever is now on view in a museum-wide exhibition at Fotografiska New York. LaChapelle joins us alongside Amanda Hajjar, founding director of exhibitions for Fotografiska, to discuss the show. The exhibition ends January 15.

Golf. It exists in many ways for many reasons for a ton of people. It's social...and it's escapism. It's a game...and it's difficult. It's gratifying...and it's penalizing. And it's different for nearly everyone that takes up the activity. It can be an obsession for many and quite literally an addiction for some. But I don't think anyone gives golf more thought than Erik Anders Lang. As founder of Random Golf Club and the host of Adventures in Golf, Erik is one of the most dynamic personalities in the game. I've been a longtime fan and have admired what he's built as a company and a brand which is why it's such a pleasure to have him on the show. I enjoy his enthusiasm, his curious nature, and his overall vibe! We kick things off with some car talk - Erik happens to own my favorite 911 - a 993. He eloquently explains how his Porsche enthusiasm began, and it wasn't a poster, or a movie. In fact, it might just be the most organic appreciation I've ever heard, which doesn't surprise me. If you follow Erik, you may be like me where you feel like, "This dude's just got it!" As a creator, his content is absolutely Art. In this episode, Erik shares one major thing he wishes he'd done differently as well as gives us a glimpse into his time working with David LaChapelle - one of my favorite creators of all time. Erik explains why growing the game of golf isn't what he's set out to do and why collaboration is important. Hand in hand, I ask Erik about the genesis and the contribution of his executive coaches. I can't thank Erik enough for his time - I'm such a fan of his and his team's work. They're, hands down, making the best golf content available. I really hope we can do a Part 2 since I had so much more to talk about, but for now, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Erik Anders Lang. Austin Young is from Reno, Nevada and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. The foundation of his career is from studying at Parsons in Paris. Early in his career, Austin transferred his interests from traditional portrait painting towards a long celebrated career in portrait photography. In many ways, Austin is more accurately described as an image-maker: his projects illustrate the sublime qualities of character that make celebrated people unique. Based on a nuanced visual language of pop-culture iconography, his trademark style and techniques have captured a broad palette of musicians, artists and celebrities including Debbie Harry, Leigh Bowery and Margaret Cho, among others. In multiple bodies of work, Austin confuses personality and identity issues in confrontational and unapologetic image making about people who often split gender roles, stereotypical constraints and socially-constructed identities. Austin is co-founder and artist of Fallen Fruit, artist duo Austin Young and David Allen Burns, a contemporary art collective that uses fruit as a material for projects that investigate the hyper- qualities of collaboration. “Austin Young reconstructs tropes of pop art and pop culture into alarmingly brilliant new icons” - Shana Nys Drambot"Working with Austin Young is like being alone in a room with a spirit who wants to meet you. He is not interested in your mortality: he is interested in your immortality. [...] He reminds me of the great Hollywood portrait photographers from another era, of George Hurrell, in particular, who was interested in the painting, not the snapshot. There is always a place for the secular in journalism. Thankfully that place will not be in Mr. Young's studio." - Diamanda Galás"Austin Young is the best artist working in photography today. His work captures beauty at its most vital, carnal, visceral, alive! His exuberant intensity is matched by his innate sense of balance and upmost respect for glamour, in all of its many decent and indecent forms. His work will be seen as important historical reference for our times, and his name will be legend." - Margaret Cho"Austin's images are, like me, the best of both worlds. Flawless and perfect, they are dreamily artificial -- while somehow simultaneously remaining organic, genuine and very real." - Jackie Beat“I was beyond thrilled when Austin Young expressed interest in photographing Peaches Christ, not only because I knew Austin would create a gorgeously iconic Peaches image (which he did) but because it meant I'd be included in a brilliant body of work I've admired for years. Austin Young's subjects are my idols and his portraits pay glamorous tribute to the often over-looked world of dark divas, drag superstars, and underground film icons." - Peaches Christ“I'm pretty unabashed in my enthusiasm for Austin Young's work. I think he's the most original photographer to emerge in America since David LaChapelle.” -Richard Metzger

This interview was recorded in mid March right after the Atlanta shooting. Kevin is of biracial, mixed Chinese American descent who danced for Madonna's worldwide hit tour, "The Blond Ambition" in 1990. He would go on to perform as an actor, model, and choreographed for many other icons, and still dancing today. We talked about the disconnect he felt in not being able to connect to his Chinese heritage, and his father, also of Chinese descent, who was largely absent during his childhood. We discussed about what it meant being queer during the volatile AIDS / HIV crisis during the 80s and early 90s which wreaked havoc on the LGBTQ commmunity. I got Kevin to talk about his experience working with some of the biggest icons as a dancer / choreographer, and being in a white-led entertainment industry that was not very welcoming to Asian Americans. Check out Kevin on his IG @kevinstea or his FB at Kevin Stea /// Bio: After only 18 months of training, Kevin was hired as associate choreographer to legendary choreographer Vincent Paterson for Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour. He quickly became dance captain and dancer for the World Tour, for which both the movie “Madonna: Truth or Dare” and the video for “Vogue” were made, and performed in Madonna's iconic performance on the 1990 MTV Music Video Awards. Soon after, he was working with Gloria Estefan, Prince, and Michael Jackson, among others, as associate choreographer/dancer, and won the Grand Prize on the television show “Star Search.” He modeled for major designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler, Tommy Hilfiger, Romeo Gigli and Exté, and worked with celebrity photographers David Lachapelle, Matthew Rolston, Peggy Sirota, Herb Ritts and Santo D'Orazio, at a time when Asians were not accepted in the industry. He has choreographed for other artists such as Britney Spears, Cher, David Bowie, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ricky Martin, among others. Kevin performed in movies such as Sister Act 2, as Daryl in Showgirls, as Swifty the Rake in Newsies and as Goldman Girl Yum Mee in The Birdcage, for which he won a SAG award. In 2016, he reunited with his fellow dancers from Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour for the critically-acclaimed documentary, "Strike A Pose." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/banhmichronicles/support

This followed the creation of a ballet ‘Narcissus and Echo', choreographed by famed dancer Sergei Polunin with set designs by David LaChapelle and a ballet commission from Rambert Dance Company. Ilan has collaborated with Burberry on a landmark fashion show, where he composed and conducted a choral symphonic suite, ‘Reliquary', which then reached no.1 in the UK classical chart. Before this, he worked with astronaut Tim Peake and the European Space Agency on a film documenting his mission to the International Space Station. Ilan continues his collaboration with Tim Peake and ESA with his spell-binding show ‘Space Station Earth' last performed in Stockholm to an audience of 10,000. This episode I'm joined by my buddy and color grader, Reed Means again to continue our discussion about color, both in movies and stills, and just what the language of color means for the way we express ourselves with our art.  Colorful language can really be observed in movies (and I'm not talking four-letter words here) because color helps a story along by setting an emotional tone to a scene. So how does that translate to still images? Does it translate to still images? Stills have a slight disadvantage when it comes to this because they have to package everything into one still frame. Your eye needs to be caught and your emotions grabbed immediately. There are no preceding scenes to get you prepared for what you're about to see.
