Many sensitive, creative, and spiritually awake people are stepping into the business world—it's part of the new paradigm. But one mindset loop often keeps them stuck and feeling unsuccessful: they get caught in the shadow side of the healership cycle.I explore how the leadership lens differs from the healership one—how it's more expansive, builds momentum, and leads to deeply fulfilling results. Staying in the healing paradigm too long can drain your capacity and energy. It may bring relief, but it won't necessarily create the life and business you truly desire.A capacity-based growth approach shifts the focus from fixing to expanding. It's about holding your experiences, failures, and desires without being defined by them. It's about stepping into your becoming—learning to receive, hold, and manage more of life, growth, and what you want, instead of staying stuck in what isn't working.Support the show Build from the depth of YOU! But what if we were never meant to live perfectly, but rather love abundantly? In this week's podcast, we'll explore the intriguing parallels between the Torah portion of Noah and Dave Eggers' novel, The Circle. Both narratives grapple with themes of isolation and the consequences of humanity's choices. In the story of Noah, we witness a world consumed by corruption, leading to divine intervention and a fresh start, albeit at a steep cost. Similarly, The Circle presents a society ensnared by the allure of technology and constant connectivity, where the pursuit of transparency clashes with individual privacy and freedom. As we delve into these texts, we'll reflect on how both highlight the delicate balance between community and isolation, urging us to consider the implications of our actions in shaping the future.

In V'zot HaBerachah, Moses bestows blessings on the tribes of Israel, highlighting themes of unity, leadership, and divine promise as he prepares to pass the mantle of leadership. This resonates with the narrative of "The Return of the King," where Aragorn's ascension to the throne symbolizes hope, restoration, and the fulfillment of destiny. Just as Moses emphasizes the importance of community and faith in God's guidance, Aragorn embodies the return of rightful leadership, rallying diverse factions against a common enemy. Both texts illustrate the transformative power of a strong leader who inspires courage and resilience in the face of darkness. The blessings of Moses and the return of Aragorn serve as reminders that true leadership is rooted in selflessness, vision, and the ability to unite people toward a shared purpose, ultimately fostering a sense of belonging and hope for a brighter future. "When President Russell M. Nelson invited us to think celestially, it reminded us to look harder, take the long view, and change our perspective. For the next six months, that is our quest. We will consider Perspective, Devotion, and Relationship. Let us all look harder and think celestial. It will lead us to discover the rich blessings Heavenly Father has in store for each of us.”

How do we navigate the multifaceted nature of trauma beyond the often reductive parameters set by the medical system? How is memory formation and storage impacted by trauma and how does that impact the trauma experience? Can our journey towards healing be supported by those other than professionals?  In this episode, Effy talks with trauma researcher and author, Dr. MaryCatherine "MC" McDonald, whose book, "Unbroken: The Trauma Response Is Never Wrong And Other Things You Need to Know to Take Back Your Life," offers refreshing perspectives in understanding and addressing trauma. Dr. MC introduces a perspective that views trauma responses as indicators of strength and resilience, challenging commonly held beliefs around vulnerability and fragility. As Effy and Dr. MC explore the neurological mechanics of trauma, they also discuss healing methodologies that move beyond standard medical approaches, emphasizing the power of self-articulation and individual paths to recovery.Instagram: @mc.phd TikTok: @mc.phdSupport the showConnect with us on IG and more:Curious Fox @wearecuriousfoxesEffy Blue @coacheffyblueJacqueline Misla @jacquelinemisla Email us or send a voice memo: listening@wearecuriousfoxes.comJoin the conversation: fb.com/WeAreCuriousFoxes

Serena Nayee, DVM, (she/her) is the founder and executive director of Chapter VIII: Veterinary Inclusion and Intersectionality Initiative and InclusiVet. Based on personal experience and statistical assessment throughout veterinary school and onward, the lack of inclusion and intersectionality within veterinary medicine heavily inspired her to create Chapter VIII upon graduation from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020.  She has previous experience as a medical director in the for-profit small animal veterinary urgent care sector, which inspired her to pursue development of accessible urgent care, after reflecting on the need for access to urgent clinical care and education among marginalized groups. Dr. Serena hopes to make urgent care and other specialty sectors within veterinary medicine more representative and accessible via incremental care and inclusive education.

This week we soak in the bath with Lindsey Ross, the modern-day woman behind the lens of the 19th-century wet plate photography: The Alchemistress. Over the last few years, you may have encountered her unique style of photography at a few of our events where she is typically covered in her classic overalls with her mobile darkroom van parked nearby and her unique pop-up portrait studio within reach. With nature as a focal point for many of her subjects, Lindsey's work brings a sense of wonder, curiosity, and intrigue especially as the images reveal themselves on the glass plates, changing before our very eyes. There is a sense of slowing down, of patience that comes with her process, something that resonates with what we too create in all of our sensory experiences. With her latest body of work, she has stepped into our dreamy world to play with us and has even brought a few of our own familiar faces to the moody dream world in her latest mushroom series. In this episode, we learn all about her upbringing in Southern California and her discovery of this large-format style of photography. This field of photography had been traditionally dominated by men at the beginning. When she broke into the community of photographers who are still keeping this art form alive, she brought a unique passion for mixing the modern era with the classic lens to shape her own approach. We'll sit in on her story around why she pursued this unique style, her personal discovery of learning how to master this time-consuming and laborious process, and how she is giving new life to this old-world art form. Lindsey creates tintype and ambrotype portraits and landscape images. Most recently, she has been working on a mushroom portrait series, where her subjects seem to be shrunken down to the world of insects lounging about in a mythological setting. You can even find some of our own inner circle members among the mix. Listen now to her artist's journey or go see her large-scale glass photos in person at her studio next time you're visiting the coast of Santa Barbara. To join Secular Sabbath membership, you can find us at secular-sabbath.com/membership. Joining grants you access to our Inner Circle community of sensory-exploring like-minded people, where you can gather with us locally in LA for monthly meet-up experiences, and pop-up events around the globe, and partake in our exclusive ambient online community. Ready to dive into the dialogue deeper? In today's Best of Episode, we feature Dr. Gillian Mandich. Dr. Gillian is a happiness researcher, public speaker, and the founder of The International Happiness Institute of Health Science Research. Gillian believes that happiness is a practice, not a destination, and, through her keynote speeches, workshops, and courses, she helps people become healthier and happier by encouraging them to adopt simple habits and practices that have been scientifically proven to increase happiness and produce a greater sense of fulfillment and well-being.In this episode, you'll hear from Gillian Mandich on:(00:33:33) The meaning of happiness. Gillian defines happiness as the experience of joy, contentment, and positive well-being combined with the sense that your life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile. However, she points out that happiness means different things to different people and stresses the importance of developing an awareness of what makes you happy and making an effort to do more of what you love and less of what you hate.(00:50:07) Overriding the brain's natural negativity bias. She explains that practicing gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to train your brain to focus on the positive rather than dwell on the negative. She also suggests keeping a gratitude journal and even a gratitude jar to heighten your appreciation of all the good things in your life.(01:06:21) Creating small bursts of joy. According to Gillian's research, the small moments of joy in our daily lives, rather than the big occasions such as birthdays, graduations, and vacations, bring us the most happiness. So, her tip for living a consistently happy life is to create small bursts of joy throughout the day by doing simple things, like calling a friend or going for a walk. (01:30:12) Taking control. She talks about the benefits of focusing your attention on the areas of your life over which you have control. Plus, she emphasizes the importance of accepting the fact that bad things happen and understanding that it's impossible to be happy all the time.  (01:51:10) Learning to see the world through the lens of awe. Gillian describes a recent experience of awe that made her change the way she saw the world. She suggests seeking solace and inspiration in beauty and nature by taking the time to look up at the stars or gaze at a beautiful sunset.
