The Duke Blue Devils have hired a head football coach (cue the blue smoke!) and Jason and Donald discuss the hire on a special DBR Bites Episode 29. Manny Diaz comes to Duke from Penn State, where he was the defensive coordinator for 2 years. Before that, he was the head coach at Miami. He also had coaching stints at Florida State, NC State, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Texas, and Louisiana Tech. We discuss what Manny Diaz brings to the table, starting with some incredible defenses. Penn State fans are very upset at losing Diaz to Duke, and it seems like players are excited to have him coming to campus. After the break, Donald breaks down some of the concerns for Manny Diaz that he followed closely in his stint as the Miami defensive coordinator and head coach. While he introduced the Turnover Chain, there were some lessons that were hopefully learned from his first head coaching stint. Overall, Jason and Donald are all in on hoping that Manny Diaz can continue the upward trajectory of the program and take it to the next level. Make sure you're following us! Former Canes QB and Current Canes Postgame Host Malik Rosier previews the season opener, gives us an idea of what Year 2 under Cristobal would look like, reveals his thoughts on the Turnover Chain and who we should keep an eye on this season!
We recap the weekend the only way we know how! With the Help of Bob Griese's infamous calls and our biggest and best moments of the weekend that was.
In Hour Tua we revisit the decision Mike McDaniel made to go for it on a crucial late 4th down and what his mindset was when they didn't convert it. We hear from McCoachin as he defends the decision even though it went against the analytics suggestions of what he should have done in that situation. Following this Leroy gives his Game Bums and Game Balls from last night's Miami Dolphins game and few other candidates from around the NFL. Next we revisit the Canes embarrassing loss to Duke and hurt ourselves even more with a brand new celebration used against us by another Basketball School. Leroy argues the Duke loss is worth than the Middle Tennessee loss and Tobin finds it ironic the removal of the Turnover Chain has done nothing to help the program. Leroy turns into a Canes apologist in the final segment but Tobin wont let up on the Canes abysmal performance.

Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
Mario Cristobal does not consider the turnover chain to be part of Miami Hurricanes tradition, so they will be retiring it after five seasons. The chain was introduced during an incredible 2017 season, where the Hurricanes forced a nation leading 31 turnovers and won 10 games. Since then, results have been mixed and the chain has lost some of its mojo. For Cristobal, the emphasis will be on hard work and earning victories. He doesn't want to take any shortcuts through props, hashtags and slogans. Host Alex Donno breaks down the demise of the turnover chain and completely agrees with coach Cristobal's reasoning. The turnover chain was a nice boost in recruiting, but Miami's top coaching staff no longer needs smoke and mirrors to land 4 and 5-star players. Donno discusses how Miami is battling with Nick Saban and Alabama for the verbal commitment of 4-star offensive tackle Olaus Alinen, who will announce his decision on Friday. Early momentum favored Miami, but the Tide has turned in Alabama's favor. Plus, Donno answers listener questions sent to @LockedOnCanes on twitter about the impact of Miami's 2022 transfer players and expectations for who the top wide receiver will be next season. Ledge Party is coming off a two-week college reunion, and recaps their wedding and football escapades. The U is back (1:34)! Wedding Dunk idea (8:05). The wedding draft (13:38). The bar gets “Smooth” (17:48). “Hip hop” pickup line of the week (21:21).
(0:00 - 29:33) - PST talks some College Football Rankings and how the stupid "scenarios" are a bunch of what ifs. THE U is the talk of the town, and we're late to the party with our opinion on the controversial "Turnover Chain." We somehow get to team traditions, dream podcast guests, and our fascination with fat guys in sports (and their inevitable death of relevancey). (29:33 - 44:27) - We touch on the MLB awards, striking out too much, and tough guy injuries. Ned Yost falls out of a tree, while Dustin Johnson slips down the stairs... who's to say which is more manly? (44:27 - 48:48) - Why do we even watch sports? Like what's the point? We are regular season haters. (48:48 - 58:19) - World Renown Weekend Appetizers topics include money lines in CFB this week, Skins vs Saints, Navy vs Catholics, Vikings vs Rams is the game to watch (Case Keenum). Colin Kap is on the cover of GQ. Let's review why and rip them, and him, to shreds. Tiger is the new MJ. Brady is the new Tiger...but is he? Rankings are out, but depends which lens you have that justifies or criticizes them. It's easy to be a homer or detractor if you try hard enough. Cowboys worse off missing LT than Zeke. Is the old Brees gone? Can Vikings hang on? Should China let the UCLA boys go? Whose career will be better: Judge or Bellinger? Should Eagles worry about the Saints? The year of the 2-loss College Football team. So many great topics, plus our vaunted college picks. Time to make money and entertain you along the way.
The Ringer’s Ben Glicksman and Rodger Sherman break down the past weekend’s madness, starting with Miami’s beatdown of Notre Dame, Georgia’s stunning defeat, and Alabama’s late-game heroics (2:00). Later they discuss the coaching carousel and who is in the running for the major job openings at Florida and Tennessee (28:00).
