We willen ouders, grootouders en beroepskrachten enthousiasmeren om voor te lezen door tips te geven over mooie, grappige, en vooral bruikbare voorleesboeken die passen bij de ontwikkelingsfasen van het jonge kind. Onze tips hebben altijd als doel het stimuleren van gezamenlijke voorleesplezier!Deze aflevering starten we met een gesprek met Lotte Behm, moeder van een dreumes en leerkracht in het speciaal onderwijs, een zogenaamde cluster 4 school gericht op kinderen met gedrags- en/of psychische problemen die extra begeleiding nodig hebben die verder gaat dan het regulier onderwijs. Lotte heeft ons benaderd omdat ze graag haar favoriete prentenboek met ons wilde delen. Het boek heeft de titel “Blaadjes” en is geschreven en geïllustreerd door Stephen Hogtun. Episode 376: On June 6, 2021, Nathaniel Veltman, 20, deliberately drove his truck into the Afzaal family, Pakistani immigrants, as they walked along the road in London, Ontario. The attack killed four members of the Afzaal family: Talat Afzaal (74), Salman Afzaal (46), Madiha Salman (44), and Yumnah Afzaal (15), and severely injured 9-year-old Fayez Afzaal. Veltman admitted that he had targeted the family solely because they were Muslim, making this Canada's first fatal vehicle attack prosecuted as terrorism. Lawmakers Urge Friendly Farming Environment for Egg-Laying Hens Lawmakers from across party lines are urging the government to speed-up efforts to build a friendly environment in which to farm egg-laying hens. The call comes after the release of a report on progress made in assisting the industry shift to cage-free farming across Asia. Taiwan ranked sixth out of 17 countries surveyed in the report by Open Wing Alliance - a global coalition of 100 organizations from 72 countries. Lawmakers say Taiwan has made no progress in phasing out (淘汰) battery cages in the farming of egg-laying chickens and say the government to come up with effective measures as soon as possible. They're also calling for a policy to help cooperative egg farmers gain access to land and loans and for subsides to be granted to farmers who adopt an animal-friendly egg production model. Jody Jacobs reports from the United Nations in New York… Canada Man Found Guilty for Killing Muslim Family A man found guilty of using his pickup truck to kill four members of a Muslim family has been sentenced to life in prison as a Canadian judge ruled that the actions of the “admitted white nationalist” amounted to terrorism. Nathaniel Veltman has also been sentenced to a concurrent (並行) life sentence for the attempted murder of a boy who survived the 2021 attack. Veltman was found guilty in November of four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder for hitting the Afzaal family with his truck while they were out for a walk. The case was the first time Canada's terrorism laws were put before a jury in a first-degree murder trial. Japan Whale Body to be Buried for Skeleton A whale as long as a train car that died after straying into a Japanese bay is set to be buried until it naturally becomes a skeletal specimen for a local museum. It's the third year in a row that whales have become stranded in Osaka Bay, raising questions about the reasons why and the cost of handling the incidents. The animal that was confirmed dead Monday is believed to be a male sperm whale, about 12 meters long and weighing an estimated 20 tons. Now guilty for the deaths of Salman Afzaal, his wife Madiha, 15-year-old daughter Yumna and 74-year-old mother Talat, and for the attempted murder of Salman's nine-year-old son, the upcoming sentencing will be a significant litmus test for Canada's anti-terror laws. It's been just over two years since four members of the Afzaal family were killed after a truck drove into them on a summer evening in London, Ontario. Now, 22-year-old Nathaniel Veltman is on trial for four counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and terrorism charges for what prosecutors are calling an attack motivated by “white nationalism”. An earlier version of this episode incorrectly stated that Anders Breivik killed 77 people in Norway in 2021. That date is incorrect. The killings happened in 2011. So far, the jury has heard testimonies from the detective that interviewed him, arresting officers, audio of the 911 call and have seen footage Veltman's statements to police hours after the attack. Kate Dubinski of CBC London takes us through the details of the trial, what members of the Muslim community are saying about the case and the impact it could have on the country's terrorism laws.
