Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Darren: Good day Dr Cabral. I appreciate all that you're doing. But ts making a difference in so many people's lives. Like really huge differences. My question has to do with Bluetooth air buds or wireless headphones. I know you harp on the dangers of using airbuds due to EMFs that may pass through brain, but is the dangers still present if someone uses only one side while leaving the other bud in the case? That's what I've been doing since you talked about it, thinking it'll minimise the risk cause I didn't just wanna throw them out but if you say that's also harmful, I would now. Keep up great work.   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been dealing with some double vision issues for a few years now. My recent MRI shows no obvious link. My ophthalmologist is blaming hormones/thyroid even though my numbers haven't changed in years. I did notice that when I consistently used CBD/THC in microdose, the double vision would almost resolve. Currently I am pregnant so I can't use this. The double vision is not pregnancy related and happens when I am and am not pregnant. Do you have any ideas on what could be the cause for the double vision? Or what could help this symptom in the meantime? Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and caring enough to spread it!!   Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral, Not sure this is something you would want to broadcast, but I wanted to ask if there's anything you can recommend for peyronie's, or curvature due to fibrosis due to an injury. I've been taking Serrapeptase off and on, but it doesnt seem to help. My Urologist prescribed me a medication that increases blood flow, but I would rather explore options outside of pharmaceuticals. Thanks   Mina: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am curious to hear more about the relation between Candida overgrowth and digestive issues. I've always had digestive issues - heavy bloating and pain after eating, and noticed you mentioning that it could be related to a Candida overgrowth. I always test positive for Candida (albicans), have so for years, but my gynaecologist has always said that this is very common and most people have it. Thank you so much!   Amy: Hi dr! My hrv (Oura ring). Is in the 150's to 200's. Do you think this is a problem and what do you attribute this to. If it goes women to the 9 0's is that a good thing or bad..so confused. Read the Daily Journal from my Celtic Invasion of Loch Lomond. Oh! Make sure you subscribe to Sci Fi Pub Songs & Stories. I'm sharing songs I recorded on a camping trip last fall. They're kinda romantic too! 8:47 - COME ADVENTURE WITH ME… Is the title of my next album. I did a Kickstarter for it about this time last year. It was a huge success, fully funded a few days into the campaign. I gave myself until July to actually release the album to supporters. But that's not good enough. I'm gonna try to release the digital music to supporters by my birthday, March 17. Will that happen? We shall see. Right now, I have 8 songs fully completed. I have four more that are being edited. So I'm well on the way to completing it by that date. There are several other tracks. I still haven't come up with a good album pin idea. But I'm hopeful I can figure that out in the next few weeks. But I am super excited that the project is almost done. Because I have three other albums to work on: Dancing With Hobbits, Another Faire to Remember by Brobdingnagian Bards, and whatever the next album will be… I have an idea or two… 12:07 - “Wherever I May Roam (live)” by Marc Gunn from Selcouth 14:55 - DOWNLOAD MY FREE EP You can download all of my songs in this show. Just send me an email.  pubsong@ celtfather You will get an auto responder with a link to download this month's album. You can also subscribe to the podcast if you're not already subscribed. While you're emailing me to get your free EP, let me know what you're doing while listening to this episode. 15:06 - WHEN SHE HELD ME IN HER ARMS In 2001, the Brobdingnagian Bards were performing at a lot of faires. Kansas City Renaissance Festival was one of the biggest and the coolest gig we had booked to that date. They paid us to fly to KC from Austin, Texas for several weekends. They put us up in a hotel. We hung out with 3 Pints Gone. We made a lot of new fans. We were even hired to perform at a wedding. I don't remember all of the details surrounding the writing of “When She Held Me In Her Arms”. But that festival stands out in my mind. I remember writing the song in the hotel after a long day at faire. It flowed out of me, filled with so much hope, love, and romance about finding true love and never turning back. Andrew and I recorded it shortly after that. We went into the studio. The Bards recording was decent enough, but the performance was way too fast. So it did not end up on A Faire to Remember or Songs of Ireland. But when I was trying to put together a compilation of music so we could book some wedding gigs, I added that song to A Celtic Renaissance Wedding. But I was never really happy with it as a recording. Nevertheless, I continued to sing the song over the years. When I met Gwen in 2009, I sang it to her at MileHiCon in Denver. She was living in Virginia at the time. But she flew to Colorado to be with me for that con. It took another five years before I recorded it again, and some years after that before I dug up the recording and the guitar additions by Daniel I Briggs before I finally sent it to Sam Gillogly to add fiddle. That was when I knew the song was finally done. I love the result. Best part about it for me is when I come to that line about “twenty years later I've not regretted a day.” Then I realize that Gwen and I are now on 13 years of marriage. Wow! Mind blown! And yup, no regrets! Here's the lyrics: When She Held Me In Her Arms Lyrics and music Marc Gunn Through a market, I wandered and prayed That I'd find me a woman I might marry some day. Well, I never dreamed when I prayed that prayer That the woman I longed for was standing there. When she held me in her arms that night, I held her close, and I held her tight. And I swore that day forth, I'd love her all of me life. When she held me in her arms that night. She smelled of the sweetest lilac skin. And I admit it now it drew me in Oh, her voice cast a spell I could not disobey. Every word was a river that swept me away. Oh, the market became a more beautiful place: The flowers more fragrant, and the clothing all lace. And her eyes, oh, her eyes! They begged me to stay And twenty years later, I've not regretted a day. 20:15 - “When She Held Me In Her Arms” by Marc Gunn from Selcouth 23:01 - JOIN THE CLUB The show is brought to you by my Gunn Runners on Patreon. Thanks to my newest Gunn Runners on Patreon: Alice M, Karla A 23:55 - THINGS NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT RUNNING I started running right before the pandemic closed everything down in 2000. It made a huge impact on my life. But I also realized that most everything I knew about running was wrong! You don't have to warm up before running. I know. This sounds like sacrilege. But I don't like flexing and stretching before I run. Instead, I just start walking. That's all the warm up I need. You don't have to run constantly. Just because you say you're going for a run doesn't mean you are running non-stop. It's tiring. So I walk. Some days I walk a LOT. Other days a rarely stop. But almost always walk on my “run”. Run up hills for an extra workout. One of my running mates set this idea in my head. You can't walk up a hill. You have to run up it. Hills are now my favorite part of my run. Shoes don't need to be tight. I spent the first year trying to get my shoes to fit “right”. I tightened them, cut off the circulation. It was miserable. Now, they are fairly snug. But not tight. Get good running shoes. That really helps a lot, especially if you're running on pavement, which is the easiest, most-accessible way to run. You'll also need to replace them at least once a year depending on how much you run. Listen to podcasts to stay entertained while running. My biggest challenge with running before I got AirPods was staying entertained. Podcasts make a huge difference. Most days, I enjoy the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. But many days, I use it as a time to catch up on whatever my podcast of the moment is. Some days it's okay just to walk. Going back to not running constantly. If you're tired or just uninspired. It's okay to walk. Take it easy. Stroll. You'll get back to it soon enough. Running is the best way to lose weight. I've never been overweight. But when I finally started running, the aerobic activity is what finally got me in control of how much I weighed. Wireless Headphones are the best. One of my excuses for not exercising years ago was those dang dangly headphone wires. When I finally got wireless headphones, my world was changed. Humidity matters for temperature. This morning the temperature was 39 degrees. But with 78% humidity, it felt like 31 degrees. What a big difference whether you're hot or cold. How should you dress? Again humidity matters. But here's a rough guide for cold weather. Wear short sleeves and shorts when the temperature is in the 60s. Long sleeve and shorts in the 50s. Long sleeve and long pants in the 40s. And of course, make sure your head is covered and maybe an extra shirt in the 30s. You can read more of my thoughts on it in my blog. 35:35 - “Naked” by Marc Gunn from Camping Trip 2022 38:27 - ARBOR DAY IN FEBRUARY? National Arbor Day is celebrated in April.  What you may not know is that each state celebrates Arbor Day from January to May depending on the regional season for planting trees. The State of Georgia celebrates its Arbor Day on the third Friday in February. It is a day to reflect on the importance of trees in our state and across our nation. Scientific research is increasingly adding to the evidence that trees are essential to global environmental health. So go plant a tree, play outside, enjoy the beauty of trees, create art inspired by trees, or honor trees in any way that pleases you! That's all according to Trees Atlanta. When is your state's Arbor Day? Oh! Mark your calendar for April 29. I'm going back to The Lost Druid. But I'm not doing it the regular way. I'm biking there. If you're able to bike there or carpool or reduce your own environmental impact that day, as well, that'd be brilliant. Come join us! If you love this episode, then share it with a friend. You can send one of the MP3s from your EP of the Month or just ask them to listen to the show. Maybe tell them one thing that really inspired you. Just spread the word. 42:00 - “When She Held Me In Her Arms” by Brobdingnagian Bards from A Celtic Renaissance Wedding 44:27 - CREDITS Thanks for listening to Sci Fi Pub Songs & Stories. Podcast #1029: Technics True Wireless Headphones

Technics True Wireless Headphones A few weeks ago we read an email from one of our listeners who works for Technics announcing a slew of new products. Two of which were the AZ40 (Street Price $150) and AZ60 (Street Price $230) Wireless Headphones. We expressed interest in reviewing them and were sent two pairs for review.  There are two types of people who will benefit from these earbuds, professionals who are on phone calls and zoom meetings all day and the music lover who wants to escape the noise of the world. We'll talk about each separately.  Setup But first let's discuss pairing and setting up the earbuds. Prior to pairing we suggest you try the different size ear tips to assure a proper fit. This will aid in the comfort, quality of the audio, and noise cancelation/isolation. To pair you take the fully charged earbuds and place them in your ear. A voice tells you they are in pairing mode. Go to your device's bluetooth settings and select the AZ40/60 and wait for the voice to tell you they are paired. Now you are ready to start listening. But if you want more control, Technics has an app that will let you dial the earbuds in to exactly how you like, Go to your app store and download and launch the Technics Audio Connect App. It will automatically search for your earbuds. Once found you can rename them if you wish.  Here you can turn on and off noise canceling for the AZ60 and activate Ambient Sound which allows audio from outside to be passed through the headphones. You can also set the sound enhancement with some presets or you can customize it to your liking. I found “off” to be the best for me.  On the AZ60 you can configure the Active noise Cancellation (ANC) to the level that sounds best for you. To do this I turned on white noise on my stereo and cranked it up. I adjusted the setting until the sound was the least detectable. Once that is done you have the ability to set the level of your noise canceling from 0 to 100%. Of course I took the headphones down to the wood shop to see how well they canceled the noise. The AZ40, without noise cancellation, did a good job at blocking the noise and allowed me to work while listening to music. The AZ60 worked so well that when I turned on the dust collection I had to remove the headphones to verify that it was actually on! Quite remarkable. The app allows you to customize touch sensor settings like which ear activates your voice assistant and which gestures are play/pause for music and which ones answer calls.  Performance - Professional Working from Home This use case has a different threshold for performance based mostly on how good the human voice sounds and how good the microphone picks up your voice when talking. Multiple calls were placed while driving, from noisy rooms, and a typical home office setting.  Technics has a technology that they call “Just My Voice” which cancels out the ambient sounds around you while amplifying the spoken word. In our tests all calls were perceived clearly on the other end. I made calls to two separate customer service reps and was not asked to repeat myself once. Then I had my wife use the headphones to call me from a room that had music playing at a loud level. I had no issue hearing her talk. The music in the background was squashed. This was done with both the AZ60 and AZ40. I could not detect any difference between them on phone call performance.  From a confort point of view both the AZ40 and AZ60 can be worn for hours without fatigue. If you are on the phone or video calls for work, these headphones are easy to wear for hours at a time.  Performance - Listening to Music This is where these headphones excel! I listened to my standards (SRV - Tin Pan Alley, Snoop Dog - California Roll, Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter, Diana Krall - Fly Me to the Moon). I also added Walker Hayes Fancy Like because first, it's a fun song and second it has a great bass line during the hook!  The AZ60 supports Hi-Res LDAC sound quality and for the test I put it into this mode which turns off Multipoint connections. No biggie as I am never connected to multiple devices simultaneously.  Both sound good. I would give the AZ60 an edge in music playback performance. I switched the earbuds in and out while listening to the same track and noticed improved sound in the AZ60 but if I didn't have both side by side'ish I would have found the AZ40s completely acceptable. The bass in both is outstanding!  In general these headphones present a realistic soundstage with the clarity to pick out elements of the music that may be hidden by other headphones.  There is a part in “Fly Me to the Moon” where there is a piano and guitar playing off each other with the standup bass backing both up that sounded like you were in the room with them. This is a live recording that puts you right on stage with them. I listened to it over and over picking out each instrument clearly. For fun I listened to some Christmas carols that were remixed with Spatial audio. To do this on non Apple Headphones you need to force Dolby Atmos to always be on in the Music app settings. As would be imagined there was no huge difference in the spatial aspect, but the songs did sound better than the originals.  One song stood out as sounding so large it gave me chills Hark! The Herald-Angels Sing sung by the Choir of the King's College. And then just for fun I went back to my B&W I7 (MSRP $399)  headphones and listened to the same music and came away thinking the bass was sloppy sounding. The rest of the audio was on par with the Technics but I couldn't get over how boomy the bass was vs the tight controlled bass of both the AZ40 and AZ60.  Odds and Ends The AZ40 is smaller than the AZ60. Both were comfortable and can be worn all day without issues. If you have small ears you may want to consider the AZ40. The charging cases are small and light. Can easily fit in your pocket or purse. You can use either earbud one at a time if you wish.  There is a mode called attention mode that enhances voices while canceling background noises. Technics claims that this may help hearing announcements in an airport setting. We did not test this setting. Battery life is 7 hours for the AZ60 and 7.5 hours for the AZ40. Our testing confirmed this while working in the shop all day listening to music and podcasts. Both are IPX4 Water Resistance. Conclusion The AZ40 and AZ60 will give headphone manufacturers a new target to aim for. The ANC on the AZ60 is remarkable at canceling out a woodshop full of noise. Office workers can wear these headphones all day without issue while coworkers on the other end of the call will have no problems hearing you even if you are working at a coffee shop. But the best thing about these headphones is how good they sound while listening to music.
