The New York Mets suffered a crushing corner infield blow as breakout third baseman Mark Vientos was placed on the injured list with a confirmed hand fracture. Corey Pieper breaks down a seismic wave of injury updates, massive impact rookie activations, high-strikeout pitching performances, and the latest FanDuel Bet of the Day. The injury bug continues to drastically alter fantasy rosters as Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez lands on the injured list with a groin strain, Zack Gelof is managing a new knee injury, and top outfield prospect Owen Caissie is expected to miss two to four weeks with a mild right calf strain. In response to these vacancies, Ryan Waldschmidt has been recalled to the big leagues while Pavin Smith was designated for assignment. On the positive side, massive offensive reinforcements have officially arrived as the Texas Rangers activated rookie sensation Wyatt Langford, and international superstar Munetaka Murakami has been activated to make his highly anticipated impact. Roster managers are also tracking solid rehab progression as Patrick Sandoval threw 4.1 innings of one-run ball and Logan Henderson logged 5.1 frames. An electric daily slate of performances featured elite strikeout upside on the mound. Gavin Williams put together an absolute masterclass with 11 strikeouts over seven brilliant innings, matched by Jesus Luzardo racking up 11 punchouts across seven frames of two-hit ball. Nathan Eovaldi fanned ten batters over six frames, Framber Valdez fired seven innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts, and Sean Manaea, Trevor Rogers, and Brady Singer turned in high-quality extended outings. Offensively, Tyler Tolbert's teammate Jake Mangum went 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, Ben Rice launched two home runs with five RBIs, and Esmerlyn Valdez and Bryan Reynolds hit back-to-back home runs, alongside long balls from Seiya Suzuki, Dominic Canzone, Brice Turang, and Jordan Walker, while Josh Naylor flashed surprising speed with two stolen bases. Conversely, Austin Riley bottomed out with a four-strikeout collar, Elly De La Cruz punched out three times in a hitless night, and starting pitchers Michael Wacha, Drew Rasmussen, Bryce Miller, and Andre Pallante were thoroughly blasted. Our weekly Waiver Wire segment provides critical target analysis for your weekend transaction runs, specifically detailing the long-term value upside of AJ Ewing and Cole Carrigg. A blockbuster Thursday slate shook the fantasy baseball universe to its absolute core, delivering a slate-breaking power clinic from a top-tier young phenom alongside an elite pitching performance that flirted with absolute perfection. Corey Pieper returns to break down the massive fantasy fallout, highlighting league-winning offensive explosions, high-leverage pitching meltdowns, crucial injury timelines, and an enticing underdog look for the FanDuel Bet of the Day. The Tampa Bay Rays put on an absolute masterclass that dominated the fantasy landscape. Infield cornerstone Junior Caminero logged a historic, slate-shattering first career three-home run game, punishing Royals pitching to the tune of 6 RBIs in a 13-2 rout. Right behind him on the mound, Ian Seymour put together a breathtaking bulk-relief performance, carrying a collective no-hit bid into the late frames while spinning 6.2 hitless, scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Elsewhere in the league, young frontline arms flashed jaw-dropping upside. Bryce Miller weaponized an uncatchable arsenal to fan 11 batters over 5.2 frames, Tatsuya Imai fanned 10 in a stellar 6-inning duel to outlast Troy Melton, and Connelly Early logged nine punchouts to match Cam Schlittler's electric 9-strikeout showcase. After an agonizing slump, Freddy Peralta finally provided a massive sigh of relief for his fantasy managers, bouncing back beautifully from his previous shellacking to fire 5.2 brilliant, scoreless innings. Meanwhile, the power surges continued at the dish, as Caleb Durbin launched another long ball, and Texas phenom Wyatt Langford kept his blistering hot streak alive by clearing the fences yet again. On the flip side, several high-investment foundational players completely tanked fantasy ratios on Thursday. Premium righty Seth Lugo was targeted early and often, completely unraveling to surrender seven earned runs in just five painful innings. Kevin Gausman similarly hit a devastating structural roadblock, shelled for six earned runs on 10 hard hits across six laborious frames. Relief depth took a massive hit too, as Gus Varland collapsed out of the bullpen, tagged for five earned runs while failing to finish his second frame. High-profile rookies also endured a harsh reality check, with both Jac Caglianone and Nick Kurtz going completely quiet, turning in empty 0-for-4 nights anchored by three empty strikeouts apiece. The active fantasy landscape is bracing for a monumental weekend wave of high-impact activations and structural shifts. Roster reinforcements are officially incoming as dynamic shortstop centerpiece Bobby Witt Jr. is anticipated to make his highly awaited return to lineups today, and Corey Seager is officially back in action. Arizona's active rotation gets an immediate jolt with Brandon Pfaadt taking the bump today, newly flanked by veteran Max Kepler, who officially linked up with the Diamondbacks yesterday. However, it's not all positive news; Toronto suffers a blow as infield stabilizer Spencer Horwitz heads to the injured list, Oakland's Zack Gelof lands on the IL with a hand fracture, and the Cubs lose depth with Ben Brown sidelined due to a neck issue. Meanwhile, fantasy managers are keeping a vigilant eye on young catcher Cooper Ingle and tracking Matthew Boyd's progress as he works back toward rotation durability after a 4.2-inning buildup outing. We close out the broadcast with our signature Friday Pitching Planner segment, analyzing the essential arms you need to stream, start, or sit to guarantee your team locks down those crucial weekend category matchups. Rough one for the BD Baseball crew: the A's, Rockies, and Tigers all take Ls, and we start with the injury that ended Zack Gelof's 24‑game hit streak after Matt Chapman stepped on his hand in San Francisco as Robbie Ray completely shuts down Oakland. Sonny Gray carves the Rockies at Coors, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the Yankees come back on the Tigers, and Jake McCarthy quietly runs his hit streak to 12 games. From there, it turns into pure chaos. The Astros and Blue Jays play a wild one in Toronto, with Yainer Díaz, Cam Smith, and Taylor Trammell going back‑to‑back‑to‑back before former Jay Joey Loperfido nukes a three‑run homer in the 11th to win it for Houston. The Phillies and Nationals then deliver one of the craziest innings of the season as Philly scores eight runs in the ninth—Brandon Marsh's game‑tying shot and Bryson Stott's three‑run go‑ahead blast headline a 14–9 stunner in D.C. We hit Mariners–Pirates, Royals dropping 12 on the Rays behind a Jack Caglianone two‑homer night, the Marlins' surge with Sandy Alcantara setting the franchise strikeout record, Cubs–Mets turning into an over festival, and Brandon Sproat's 10‑K gem for Milwaukee. Then it's today's card: Royals–Rays again, Tigers–Yankees on Amazon, Phillies–Nats rematch (and why Matt is hammering the over), Astros–Jays, Dodgers–Twins with Shohei vs Joe Ryan, Braves–Padres, A's–Giants, and more, with first‑five and full‑game totals sprinkled in. Key games discussed: A's at Giants – Robbie Ray holds Oakland to two hits as Gelof's streak ends on an injury. Red Sox at Rockies – Sonny Gray strikes out 11 at Coors; Willie Castro and Ezequiel Tovar go deep in a losing effort. Yankees at Tigers – Jazz Chisholm Jr. homers and the Yanks flip a 2–0 deficit; David Bednar picks up save No. 15. Astros at Blue Jays – Astros win 9–7 in 11 on Joey Loperfido's three‑run revenge bomb after back‑to‑back‑to‑back Houston homers. Phillies at Nationals – Phillies score eight in the ninth to win 14–9. Cubs at Mets, Brewers at Reds, White Sox at Guardians, Dodgers at Twins, D‑backs at Cardinals, Orioles at Angels, Braves at Padres and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Solo BD Baseball for Friday, June 19. I'm running through Thursday's short MLB slate, starting with a clean A's win, Gage Jump shoving, Zack Gelof staying hot, the Royals putting up 14, Bryan Woo dealing, and the rest of the weekend matchups. Solo show today on BD Baseball, and we had a light Thursday slate — only eight games — but there was still plenty to chew on. The A's gave me a good one for once. Gage Jump was fantastic, going seven scoreless with seven punchouts, the offense jumped the Angels right away, Shea Langeliers drilled one off the batter's eye, Tyler Soderstrom followed with one of his own, and Zack Gelof pushed the hitting streak to 22 games. That's a clean win. No mental gymnastics required. Around the league, the Royals had the loudest offensive night, hanging 14 on the Cardinals, though Bobby Witt Jr. leaving with a knee issue is something to watch. Bryan Woo shoved for Seattle, the Blue Jays finished off a sweep in Boston, the Red Sox were gross with runners in scoring position, and Andrew Benintendi ruined the Yankees' night with a pinch-hit grand slam. Then I get into the weekend board — Tigers trying to get right with Skubal, A's needing Jeffrey Springs to find it again, Rockies and Pirates headed to Coors, and yes, I'm hammering the over there. Eight games, a little standings check, weekend matchups, and a clean A's win. Don't let your butt crack and move your ass. We're burning daylight. Learn more about your ad choices. Rough day for the BD Baseball crew. The A's got shelled, the Rockies lost a close one at Wrigley, and the Tigers bats went cold in Houston — so naturally, we had plenty to work through. In this episode of BD Baseball, we run through the full June 17 MLB slate with a little extra attention on the homer teams. The A's pitching staff got beat up by the Pirates, Ryan O'Hearn drove in six, and Zack Gelof at least kept his hitting streak alive. The Rockies gave up a seven-run inning to the Cubs, but Sterlin Thompson hit the first two homers of his big league career, Hunter Goodman kept swinging it, and Colorado's lineup still looks a lot more interesting than the record says. On the Tigers side, it was a frustrating one. Detroit only managed three hits against Houston, Peter Lambert shoved, Kevin McGonigle got one off Josh Hader late, and Gleyber Torres heading back to the IL with an oblique issue is a real kick in the teeth. We also get into Andrew Painter getting lit up again and finally sent down, the Shohei Ohtani pitching/DH rule conversation, umpire challenge drama, the Yankees doing Yankee things without Judge, Kyle Bradish punching out 12, the Mariners going to a six-man rotation, and why the A's need pitching help if they're going to keep hanging around the wildcard race. It's a full slate recap, BD Baseball style: straight talk, no filler, and no pretending bad baseball is good baseball. Topics covered: A's vs Pirates Rockies vs Cubs Tigers vs Astros Zack Gelof's hitting streak Sterlin Thompson's first MLB homers Gleyber Torres injury Andrew Painter sent down Shohei Ohtani rule discussion Yankees vs White Sox Blue Jays bullpen shutout Kyle Bradish career-high strikeouts Mariners rotation talk June 17 MLB recap June 18 MLB look-ahead Don't let your butt crack, and move your ass. My A's took the weekend series from my Rockies, so technically I should be happy. But then Sunday happened. Colorado dropped a franchise-record 23 runs on 24 hits in Las Vegas, and the A's got absolutely slobber-knocked in the getaway game. Willi Castro went off, Hunter Goodman nearly hit for the cycle, and Las Vegas Ballpark kept playing like a launchpad. In this episode of BD Baseball, I start with the homer teams — A's, Rockies, and Tigers — then run through the rest of the MLB weekend from June 12–14. I get into: A's taking the series 2–1 from Colorado Rockies dropping 23 runs on the A's Willi Castro, Hunter Goodman, and the Rockies' offensive explosion Zack Gelof's hitting streak and Tyler Soderstrom's on-base streak Tigers' bats going quiet against Cleveland Tarik Skubal getting back on the mound Jacob Misiorowski throwing a complete-game one-hitter with 15 strikeouts for Milwaukee Yoshinobu Yamamoto flirting with a no-hitter Paul Skenes pitching well and still losing A full MLB weekend rundown and quick look at the week ahead BD Baseball is scores, starters, who's hot, who's not, and straight baseball talk without the filler. Keep or Kut - Chad (@chadyoung) and Pete (@PeteBBaseball) take a look at a slew of hitters who followed solid 2023s up with terrible (or, in some cases, just not-as-great) 2024s.7:42 - Chad's Head-to-Head Hero is Wyatt Langford to close out the season. Pete went with Jonathan Aranda.20:15 - Ronald Acuña Jr., Jose Altuve, Matt Olson, Freddie Freeman, and Corey Seager are all studs who technically took a statistical step back. Any concerns here?22:45 - Some veterans that fell from being good in 2023 to bad in 2024 were Marcus Semien, Ozzie Albies, JD Martinez, and Bo Bichette. What are we doing with this group?32:08 - What are we doing with Luis Robert Jr. after this terrible season?41:04 - Some players that kind of broke-out in 2023 were Nolan Jones, Chas McCormick, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Zack Gelof, and Christopher Morel. Their 2024s were a lot less successful.53:45 - In or out on Davis Schneider? Brandon Drury? Evan Carter? Adam Duvall? Wilmer Flores? Mitch Garver?58:56 - How early are we drafting Julio Rodriguez next year?1:00:02 - In or out on Adolis García?1:00:45 - How about Spencer Torkelson and Triston Casas?1:05:35 - Josh Lowe had an alright 2024, but it wasn't what we hoped for. Inspired by Daulton Varsho, Jeff Erickson and Fred Zinkie review which players are better in real life than fantasy, and which players are better in fantasy in real life, and try to find some underlying trends. --- 00:00 - Fred Pod 9-2 01:00 - Daulton Varsho comment from Sunday night. 02:15 - Varsho isn't a good real-life hitter, but he's been decent for fantasy this year ($8) and hit .281 with 18 runs and four homers in August. 04:50 - Players who were better in real life than fantasy this year. 05:00 - Bryce Harper. 11th in OPS but just a $22 player. He will hit 30 homers, but without many steals and his batting average is more good than great. 10:00 - Freddie Freeman. 14th in OPS but a $20 player. He may not reach 25 homers or 10 steals. Hitting .285, which is fine but not special. 17:00 - Riley Greene. 20th in OPS. But hitting .259 with 20 homers and 4 steals. Missed a bit of time, but his R/RBI aren't great either. An $11 player. 22:15 - Popular opinion is that J.D. Martinez has been very good for the Mets. It's true. He has a .777 OPS. But he has generated just $4 in fantasy. Just 16 HR, 0 SB, 108 R+RBI. 29:00 - Orioles talk - Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo 32:00 - Better in fantasy than real life. 32:20 - Maikel Garcia is second last in OPS. Has generated $17 in fantasy. The 33 steals and 83 runs scored are pretty awesome. 35:15 - Jacob Young is a poor man's version of Garcia. Eighth worst OPS but a $9 player thanks to hitting .258 with 31 steals and 69 runs. He's one of baseball's worst hitters but is helping fantasy teams in 3/5 categories. 38:35 - Zack Gelof has the 4th worst OBP of any qualified player. He also has 16 HR and 20 SB. A $4 player so far. 42:30 - Christopher Morel is batting .196 while somehow generating $3 in fantasy value. That's what 21 homers and 8 steals will do for you. 44:25 - Brice Turang has sunk to 13th worst in OPS but has generated $18 in fantasy production thanks to seven homers and 40 steals. Almost as valuable as Freeman. 46:15: - Firing up Julio Rodriguez, who's next? 47:00: - Alexis Diaz 52:25 - Good News for the Padres: Yu Darvish may return Wednesday; Joe Musgrove had a great start against the Tigers; Tatis is back. --- Pick6 Download the new DraftKings Pick Six app and use code RWPICKS.
