Episode 41: The Most Anticipated Championship Game In Over A Decade Is Set

On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, the most anticipated National Championship in over a decade is finally set. We finally get our Gonzaga-Baylor matchup and it's thanks to Jalen Suggs' buzzer beater. This is why we love college basketball.  Our Final Four recap starts with the game of the tournament, and maybe the decade, as the Bulldogs outlast UCLA in overtime (03:32). The game was incredible from start to finish and boy, did we need a good game. Without this game, would the tournament have been a disappointment? It was an unbelievable effort from the Bruins but Jalen Suggs last-second heave keeps the undefeated season alive for the Zags. Where does UCLA's Mick Cronin rank among current head coaches? Should Gonzaga be concerned with Corey Kispert's struggles?  On the other side of the bracket, Baylor steamrolled Houston and the Bears look to be in peak midseason form (22:35). Jared Butler had his best game of the NCAA Tournament and the Cougars had no answer for the Baylor offense. Did playing a high seed finally catch up with the Cougars? Is Baylor's defense being overlooked and could it cause issues for Ginzaga's high-powered offense? We then preview Monday's highly anticipated National Championship matchup (34:29). Does the Zags size give them an advantage over Baylor? Or will the Bears backcourt be too much for the Bulldogs? Plus - who will take home the Most Outstanding Player trophy? And finally, we wrap things up with the Women's Final Four (44:08) which saw Paige Bueckers and UConn fall to Arizona, setting up an all-PAC 12 Championship matchup against Stanford. On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, the guys recap the Elite Eight and start with the shocker of the round in the East Region (02:42) where Mick, Hep, and the 11-seed UCLA Bruins took down 1-seed Michigan in a stunning upset. The loss of Isaiah Livers finally came back to bite the Wolverines. Is UCLA the luckiest team in the country? Or do they just have the power of Hep on their side? Can the Bruins keep the run alive and take down Goliath in the Final Four? From shocker to blowout, we go to the West Region (170:09) where the Gonzaga Bulldogs look truly unstoppable. Drew Timme eviscerated NBA top prospect Evan Mobley and the Trojans. Was this the most impressive effort all season from the Bulldogs?  Next, we cover the Midwest Region (26:30) where Rico's Houston Cougars are heading to their first Final Four since the Phi Slama Jama days. The Cinderella run for Oregon State comes to an end. Can Houston keep up with Baylor? They took down the 15, 10, 11, and 12 seeds in their region but now get a huge test in 1-seeded Baylor.  Jake thinks the Cougars have a shot.  And lastly we move over to the South Region (37:33) where the other tournament favorite, Baylor, continued their march towards a date with Gonzaga. Arkansas had an unbelievable season led by the Muss Bus. Could the Razorbacks return all of their players and make another run at it next season? Meanwhile, the Bears look destined to meet the Zags in the Championship. Who exactly is Baylor's best player?  We wrap things up with an update on the Women's Tournament (54:52). Monday's game of the night was on the women's side. The UConn-Baylor game was electric but ended with a controversial no-call. Should Texas take a look at Baylor coach Kim Mulkey? Rico thinks so. For UConn, it's all about Paige Bueckers as usual. Elsewhere, Stanford, South Carolina, and Arizona fill out the rest of the Final Four.

On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, the guys recap an action-packed Sweet 16 that featured some blowouts, three 1-seeds advancing, and one stunning upset.  In the West Region (03:13), we had two blowouts with Gonzaga and USC set to meet in the Elite Eight. Can anybody stop the Bulldogs and if so, is it Evan Mobley and the Trojans? Is this the toughest matchup the Zags will have faced all season? Marty and Rico both believe in the Trojans chances for an upset.  In the East Region (11:48) we saw the major upset of the weekend with UCLA outlasting Alabama in overtime. The Crimson Tide's struggles at the foul line probably cost them the game and the Bench Mob some money. Mick Cronin's squad is heading to the Elite Eight in a matchup against 1-seed Michigan. The Wolverines smoked Florida State and are poised for another trip to the Final Four. Is Michigan the most underrated team left in the field? In the Midwest Region (33:33), the Beavers continue their Cinderella run after beating Loyola-Chicago in an absolute rock fight. Oregon State's defense has helped propel them to an unlikely Elite Eight matchup against Houston on Monday. The Cougars were able to figure out the Syracuse zone and get past the Orange. Do Marty and Jake finally believe in Houston despite only beating double-digit seeds so far? Over to the South Region (46:38) where the 1-seed Baylor Bears and 3-seed Arkansas Razorbacks will meet in an electric Elite Eight game Monday night. Arkansas barely survived after Max Abmas' last-second shot just missed. Jared Butler struggled against Villanova but the Bears overcame a 7-point halftime deficit to advance. Do the Razorbacks have the firepower to stay with Baylor? And we also have an Elite Eight set in the Women's Tournament (01:01:41) with three 1-seeds headlining the field including Paige Bueckers and UConn.  And we wrap things up discussing Indiana's hiring of Mike Woodson (01:05:26).  Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review to Barstool Bench Mob and follow us on Twitter and Instagram @stoolbenchmob

Next up, Baylor faces Villanova and Rico and Marty think the Bears run away with it and move on to the Elite Eight (09:19). Do the Wildcats have a shot without Collin Gillespie? The winner of that game will meet the winner of Arkansas and the Cinderella of the tournament, Oral Roberts (12:04). The Razorbacks beat the Golden Eagles earlier in the season. So how will the rematch go? Can Max Abmas and Kevin Obanor lead Oral Roberts to an upset? And the final game on Saturday features Houston and Syracuse (19:23). Can Buddy Boeheim stay red-hot and lead the Orange to another upset? Rico thinks the Cougars pose a tough matchup for Boeheim and Co.  Then we welcome the hottest shooter in the country, Syracuse guard Buddy Boeheim to talk about Syracuse's run in the NCAA tournament, life as a coach's son, and how tough his dad's 2-3 zone can be on opponents. Plus - Buddy promises to incorporate a new celebration after a three-pointer. (24:30) We move on to Sunday's slate and kick things off with Gonzaga and Creighton (43:25). The Zags are huge favorites but can Marcus Zegarowski get hot enough to pull off the miracle? The only chalk-matchup of the tournament is in the East Region with 1-seed Michigan and 4-seed Florida State (45:54). Is this the best matchup of the Sweet 16? Do the Seminoles have an answer for Hunter Dickinson?  The Wolverines or Seminoles take on the winner of UCLA vs. Alabama (48:26). Can the Bruins slow down Nate Oats' 3-point-heavy Crimson Tide offense? And the final game of the Sweet 16 is a Pac-12 matchup between Oregon and USC (51:05). How do the Ducks match up with the Mobleys? The Trojans seem to be the consensus pick among the Bench Mob and Rico makes a bold prediction for a potential Gonzaga-USC Elite Eight matchup.  And we wrap things up with an update from the Women's NCAA Tournament which features red-hot UConn led by Paige Bueckers (54:52). Who is the favorite for the Final Four? Sister Jean makes her return to the Sweet 16. Loyola-Chicago looked like they were the top seed in their dominant win over 1-seed Illinois. The Ramblers take on Oregon State next Saturday after the Beavers take down Cade Cunningham and 4-seed Oklahoma State. And at the bottom of the region, Syracuse does it again. Can Buddy Boeheim lead the Orange to the Elite Eight over 2-seed Houston?  And we wrap things up in the East Region (36:59) where, at the top, 1-seed Michigan outlasted 8-seed LSU. How far can Michigan go without Isaiah Livers? Can Leonard Hamilton lead the Seminoles to the Elite Eight after their big win over Colorado?
