Have you ever looked back in a time of your life where you thought you knew more than you actually knew? This can pertain to prejudices, judgments, and unsubstantiated thoughts that place barriers for growth and connection. This can be devastating on so many levels, but it doesn't have to be. The simple act of kindness has both physical and emotional benefits. It impacts our mindset, increases energy, lowers blood pressure, and can even have cardiovascular benefits. We've heard about the act of kindness, but what about pursuing undercover kindness? The pursuit of encouraging and spreading kind actions to others without them knowing who was on the other end? This no strings attached pursuit has the ability to strengthen our mental wellness, physical state, and mindset. We don't have to agree on everything...or even most things, but just listening, with a humble heart, is a way to give back to our fellow humans.Interested in CBD Pure? Life can be a crazy train. Throw in a pandemic, loss, grief, etc. and our ability to maintain a balanced state of mind can be tough. A great way to maintain realistic expectations of ourselves is by giving ourselves a free pass to freak out. When we feel overwhelmed, like we're wearing too many hats, or our hearts are aching...remind yourself that it's ok to cry, yell in a pillow or go for a run. We all need a healthy, safe way to release when we're feeling the tug of being overwhelmed. The message of taking time out to breathe, release and recharge is us loving ourselves as well as sending a clear sign to those around us that we have boundaries and we will at times need personal release. Check out this week's episode for the reminder that you're awesome! Want to contribute towards Goodness Chick's mission? Check out www.patreon.com/goodnesschick
In a few short weeks my third book will be released. In this week's pod, I share a chapter of my book, Won't You Be My Neighbor? As we continue to be in a time of social distancing, the reminder of the power of kindness and extending ourselves is a message that resonates in this chapter. While in Brasov, Romania, two women exchanged a level of kindness and joy that was life-altering. We didn't speak the same language, but we spoke with our hearts rather than words. You can find my books, Peace, Love & Goodness: Lessons from the Drug Lady and A Higher Level of Goodness Chick, on Amazon.
Dr. Rachel Gregg is changing lives and making the world a better place as a Gut-Brain Guru & Mental Wellness advocate. Rachel stepped away from a stable, six-figure job as a Pharmacist to pursue her passion in empowering others to not merely live, but thrive. We look at the reality of fear, how we opt to approach it, and its ability to make us stronger and live more authentically. Rachel provides amazing insight on strategies we can implement during our time of social distancing. She looks at the connection with our mental wellness with what we eat, our level of physical activity and what we expose ourselves to (what we read, what we listen to, the people in our lives we choose to surround ourselves with - even if that's through text/ Zoom/ FaceTime, etc.). It's taking ownership of our life and getting excited to not merely live, but thrive. Looking for further inspiration? Our voices can make a difference in ways that can be difficult to wrap our minds around. This year marks the 21st year since losing my sister, Shana, and her friends, Amanda, Angela and Meg to a drunk driver. I look at how one person's voice in speaking up to prevent Melissa Marvin from driving would have altered history in some massive ways. Four more people would still be here. It's similar to social distancing right now. We're in the midst of some crazy times and doing what is right and socially distancing can and will save lives. Speaking up when we see people being selfish and not complying and reminding them, we are all in this together. Getting inspired and stoked to do what's right even when it isn't necessarily convenient is an awesome step. It simply can change the world. Let's be world changers, my friends :)

Sherrie bravely spends an hour with me talking about PTSD, therapy and resilience. Sherrie continued to look for professional support despite setbacks with the clinicians she encountered along the way. This is a must listen for clinicians to hear what worked and what did not and for survivors who are still searching for the right help.Sherrie Lawson survived the Washington Navy Yard shooting that occurred on September 16, 2013. Through her healing journey she became passionate about supporting others that also suffer from the “invisible wounds’ of trauma. She joined The Rebels Project as a member in 2014 and began working with TRP in an official capacity in 2016. After spending 15 years in Washington, DC and returning home to her native NC for two years she relocated to Denver, Colorado to become even more involved in the TRP mission of providing support for survivors of mass tragedy. Sherrie currently volunteers as Director of Operations for TRP. In addition to her work with TRP she lectures at the University of Colorado-Denver and a is SoulCollage(R) Facilitator.www.soulcollage.com
In this show Heather and I have an intimate conversation about the survivor journey and the role of peer support for mass violence survivors. Heather shares how her journey led her to start the Rebels Project. Heather Martin was two days away from her 18th birthday when the shooting occurred during her senior year at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. After barricading in a small office for three hours, Heather returned home physically uninjured, but the effects of the trauma she experienced that day continued to impact in the following years as she went off to college. While the trauma caused her to initially drop out, she re-enrolled ten years later and obtained her Bachelors in English and teaching license. She co-founded The Rebels Project after the shooting at the Aurora, CO movie theater with other Columbine 1999 alumni. Heather is a national speaker advocating for informed responses to traumatic events from the perspective of a survivor. She currently resides in Colorado and teaches English in Aurora, CO.www.therebelsproject.org

Ryan O'Donnell, Kristin Walker, and Jonathan Bertrand talk about the Next Gen Revolution Summit coming up November 2017 in Miami, Florida. Our listeners can use the code "MHNR” for a 20% discount off all ticket types. This is THE in person and online summit to attend for anyone interested in ABA, Artificial Intelligence, Human Behavior, Mental Health, Virtual Reality, and more! Ryan hails from northern Nevada in the grungy, yet surprisingly classy, (and newly renovated) Reno, Nevada. He likes his climate like he likes his data: evolving, uncompromising, and progressive. He is a master of science; that is, he has a M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis, however he has since grown to include many other interests, including entrepreneurship and capturing perspectives and stories through various mediums. He has used this degree to work with a lot of great people to help organizations and families in Florida and Nevada that support people with Intellectual Disabilities. Currently he leads product development and distribution for High Sierra Industries as a Learning Systems Development Specialist. His focus outside this role is on building a community of thought leaders and doers to create content that increases the transparency of behavior analytic technologies with the hopes of creating a platform that truly saves the world. His interests are all over, from artificial intelligence and machine learning applications to the theory and philosophy behind Why We Do What We Do (wwdwwdpodcast.com). In his spare time you can find him consuming social media, prepping/climbing a giant mountain, or walking around with his camera in his hand (and, occasionally, all simultaneously).
