Episode Summary: Have you ever prayed fervently for something for years, or even decades and began to doubt that God would answer your prayers? My guest on today's episode is Bunny Yekzaman who prayed for over 20 years for her Muslim husband to receive God's gift of salvation. Her journey took a powerful turn when she learned to pray in faith and release control to God's timing. Thought it was a painful time in her life, Bunny shares how God redeemed that pain, bringing beautiful sacred scars in place of her painful wounds. Quotables from the episode: Sometimes we create wounds ourselves and we don't even realize we are doing it. I was raised to not marry an unbeliever. I was told “don't do this” or “don't do that” but there was really no education as to why. But there are important principles in God's word about why we shouldn't be unequally yoked—it's an element of protection that God puts around us if we will just obey his word. Sometimes we don't really mean to disobey Him, but sometimes we just really don't understand that that protection is coming from God. I knew not to marry an unbeliever, but I didn't understand why. Was that really from God, or was that just another rule to follow? When I got into college, I met a man who was totally on the other side of the world from me. He was raised Muslim, raised in Iran, came here to go to school, denounced his beliefs, accepted the communist teaching and was teaching that in an undergraduate class at the college I attended. When they told me to stay away from him, it just made me want to run toward him. When I realized that I was a believer and he was an unbeliever, I began to think that maybe this was supposed to be my goal: to change this man so I spent 8 years trying to change him. We knew each other for eight months and then got married. Nobody said it would work, and it almost didn't because I did step into a relationship unequally yoked. We think love is going to cure everything, but there is not true love where there isn't a relationship with Christ. So maybe I had this deep abiding love for Jesus and for my husband, but my husband couldn't understand that because he didn't know the love of Christ. I went for years, trying to prove to him who Christ was and that he needed to know Jesus. I raised our children in the church, and it became a real battle because he began to believe that he was in competition with God. I realized that I had stepped outside of God's will when I married him. I prayed and prayed for his salvation, and I learned how to love my husband with the love of Christ and not expect anything in return. He was a great husband and a great father in all other aspects, but it angered him that the children and I were praying for him and that I could have this confidence that when I died, I would go to heaven. In the Muslim faith there was an evidence of works in everything they did, so even though he denounced his faith, he couldn't understand how the gift of eternal life was based on God's grace. It took about 20 years of marriage before I really started seeing change. My children were on a mission trip, and I was at home, on my knees again praying for God to save my husband when I sensed a gentle voice in my spirit saying, “Bunny, don't ask me again.” The Bible talks about being persistent in prayer, so I didn't understand what God meant. There are three reasons why we often continue to plead with God to answer our prayers: 1) impatience, 2) wanting to be in control, and 3) not believing God for his answer. God was showing me that I was asking him for my husband's salvation, but I wasn't asking in faith—I was asking in doubt. We can have confidence when we pray. There is no shred of doubt that when we ask God according to his will, it will be done. But that means we have to know what his will is. If I'm praying for someone's salvation, that's God's will. And if I believe that's God's will, and it is, then I can have a confident assurance that God is going to do what he said he is going to do. I can hold onto that promise and it changes the way I pray! After that, I stopped praying asking God to save my husband, and began praying, “Thank you God for saving my husband.” I'm thanking God for what he said he would do. He wants us to have faith. Faith isn't believing after we see it, it's believing before we see it. When I realized God's word is true, I wasn't trusting in me, I was trusting Him. Ultimately, my husband gave his life to Christ, he surrendered to the ministry, went to seminary, and has been the pastor at the nursing home where I work for three years now. Get out of God's way. Get on your knees and thank God in advance for whatever it is you're praying for, and trust him. Don't pray with an agenda. Praying believing God will answer, but then surrender the how and the when to him. That way he gets the glory, but we get to witness God's goodness and faithfulness. God has never and will never go back on a promise. If you stop getting into God's word, that's when the flesh takes over. The flesh will start questioning and doubting when you aren't studying God's word. God's word is where you will find the strength, the wisdom, the courage, the faith, and everything you need to push through your painful trial. The enemy will do everything he can to try to doubt God. Hold onto God's promises. The only strength that you have is God's word. The longer a tea bag stays in boiling water, the stronger that tea becomes. Likewise, the more we stay in God's word, the stronger we become, not in our own strength but in His, so that when those trials come, we can stand steadfast on those promises we know. Matthew 15:1-9 - Some Pharisees and teachers of religious law now arrived from Jerusalem to see Jesus. They asked him, 2 “Why do your disciples disobey our age-old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.” 3 Jesus replied, “And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God? 4 For instance, God says, ‘Honor your father and mother,' and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.' 5 But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can't help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.' 6 In this way, you say they don't need to honor their parents. And so you cancel the word of God for the sake of your own tradition. 7 You hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. ### Devotion: The Prayer of Daniel from Daniel Chapter 9**Scripture Reading: Daniel 9:1-19**#### IntroductionDaniel's prayer in Daniel 9 is a powerful example of intercessory prayer, where he prays fervently for his nation. As we reflect on his prayer, we can draw parallels and apply its principles to pray for our own nation, the United States.#### 1. Acknowledging God's Greatness (Daniel 9:4)**Daniel 9:4 (NIV):** "I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: 'Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments.'"**Application:**Begin by acknowledging God's greatness, His faithfulness, and His love. Remember that God is sovereign over all nations and holds the world in His hands. As we pray for the USA, we affirm God's authority and trust in His plans for our nation.#### 2. Confession of Sins (Daniel 9:5-6)**Daniel 9:5-6 (NIV):** "We have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land."**Application:**Confession is a crucial part of intercession. Like Daniel, we must confess the sins of our nation: turning away from God, ignoring His commandments, and neglecting His word. Humbly acknowledging our nation's failures opens the door for God's mercy and forgiveness.#### 3. Seeking God's Mercy (Daniel 9:9)**Daniel 9:9 (NIV):** "The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him."**Application:**Seek God's mercy for the USA. Despite our national shortcomings, God's mercy is abundant. Pray for His forgiveness and for a revival that will turn hearts back to Him. God's mercy can bring healing and restoration to our land.#### 4. Acknowledging the Consequences of Sin (Daniel 9:11)**Daniel 9:11 (NIV):** "All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you. Therefore, the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you."**Application:**Recognize the consequences of national sins. Daniel understood that the hardships Israel faced were a result of their disobedience. Pray that our nation acknowledges the consequences of straying from God's path and seeks to return to His ways.#### 5. Praying for Restoration (Daniel 9:17)**Daniel 9:17 (NIV):** "Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary."**Application:**Pray for the restoration of the USA. Ask God to look with favor upon our nation, to heal divisions, to bring justice and righteousness, and to restore us spiritually. Pray for leaders who will seek God's wisdom and for a people who will follow His commandments.#### 6. Pleading for God's Glory (Daniel 9:19)**Daniel 9:19 (NIV):** "Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name."**Application:**Ultimately, our prayers should seek to glorify God. Pray that His will be done in the USA and that our nation reflects His love, justice, and truth. Our desire should be for God's name to be honored and revered across the land.#### ConclusionDaniel's prayer serves as a model for us to intercede for our nation. As we pray for the USA, we can follow his example by acknowledging God's greatness, confessing our sins, seeking His mercy, recognizing the consequences of sin, praying for restoration, and pleading for God's glory. Becoming BeYOUtiful YOU Part 7 - Goodness “…when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” Galatians 5:22,23 NLT “Every GOOD and perfect gift is from above, coming from the Father” James 1:17 NIV To Live a BeYOUtiful Life, I NEED GOD'S HELP! First, THE PROOF of the Christian life is in the Fruit If (that is the conditional part) we let Him control our lives, HE WILL (that is the promise) produce the life in us that we have been created to live. This is an EXPECTATION for followers of Jesus Christ “A healthy tree produces good fruit, and an unhealthy tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, the way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced. “Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as ‘Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:18-21 NLT Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.” James 4:17 NIV THERE ARE TWO FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEMS WHENEVER WE CALL SOMEONE A “GOOD” PERSON- Here's part of the problem: We Judge Goodness By the Wrong Standard Here's the Other Part of the Problem: No one is good! “There is no one righteous…” Romans 3:10 NIV “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags…” Isaiah 64:6 NIV “The Lord is good and does what is right” Psalm 25:8 NLT “Taste and see that the Lord is good” Psalm 34:8 NLT “For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation” Psalm 100:5 NLT We can't conclude that we just need a “little help” Luke 18:9-14 The Pharisee and the Tax Collector Jesus did not come to earth and die on a cross just to make good people better. “…I no longer count on my own goodness…but I trust God to save me” Philippians 3:9 NLT “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT We don't go to heaven because we are good, but because God is good. Question for Reflection: How can you actively practice justice, mercy, and humility in your interactions today? Day 3: Hearing God's Gentle Whisper Bible Reading: 1 Kings 19:11-12 (NIV) "The Lord said, 'Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.' Take time to quiet your heart and mind, creating space to hear from God amidst the noise of life. Day 4: Seeking God's Guidance through Prayer Bible Reading: James 1:5 (NIV) "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Devotional: God promises to give us wisdom when we ask Him in faith. Prayer is not only a means of presenting our requests to God but also a practice of aligning our will with His. Today, approach God with confidence, seeking His wisdom for the decisions you face. Trust that He is ready to guide you with His generous wisdom. Question for Reflection: In what situation do you need God's wisdom today, and how can you seek it through prayer? Day 5: Aligning with God's Particular Will for Your Life Bible Reading: Acts 9:15-16 (NIV) "But the Lord said to Ananias, 'Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.'" Devotional: In the Sermon on Saul's conversion, we see that God had a unique mission for him, just as He has a specific calling for each of us. Reflect on your own life and consider the unique gifts, opportunities, and circumstances God has given you. Seek to understand how God might be using these aspects of your life to fulfill His particular will for you. Question for Reflection: What unique elements of your life might God be using to direct you toward His purpose?

"Surrender," in Hebrew, means "to align or arrange oneself under the command of a divine viewpoint." You literally turn away from the offerings of the world, the opinions of others, and your own strategies for achieving life and instead choose to stand under God's divine viewpoint. When we cling to other things, believing they will satisfy our souls, we put something between us and God—actually, we put something in front of Him. They may be good things, but when they become highest in our hearts, we get into trouble; we've stepped away from our first love, maybe without even noticing. Walking in Faith: Abraham's Obedience and its Relevance TodayLet's imagine you're on a road trip. You've meticulously planned your route, dotted your Is, and crossed your T's. But as you're driving, your GPS suddenly instructs you to make an unexpected turn. Confused and uncertain, would you follow its guidance? Today, we're going to explore a similar experience in the life of Abraham and its implications for our own journey of faith.The scripture that underpins our sermon today is from Genesis 12:1 (NIV): "The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.'"1. Abraham's Call and Obedience: Abraham was instructed to leave everything familiar—his country, his people, and his father's house. Yet he did not hesitate or negotiate with God. He packed up his family and his belongings, and he embarked on a journey to an unknown destination simply because God told him to (Genesis 12:4-5). This obedience was credited to him as faith.2. Abraham's Faith in Promises: God promised Abraham that He would make him into a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. Despite having no child at that time and his wife Sarai being barren, Abraham believed God's promise (Genesis 15:5–6). His trust in God was not dependent on his circumstances but on the One who made the promise.3. Abraham's Faith Tested: The pinnacle of Abraham's faith journey was when God asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. This was the son through whom God had promised to fulfil His words to Abraham. Despite the seeming impossibility of the situation, Abraham's faith did not waver, demonstrating that his confidence was in God and not in the promise (Genesis 22:1–18).Abraham's Legacy and Our Walk of Faith: The life of Abraham teaches us that walking in faith means trusting God's directions even when the destination is not clear, believing in His promises despite our circumstances, and keeping our faith in God even when our understanding is limited.The writer of Hebrews affirms this when he says, "Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1, NIV)Let's bow our heads in prayer:"Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Abraham's faith. Help us to trust in Your guidance, believe in Your promises, and maintain our faith in You regardless of the circumstances. May we walk in obedience as Abraham did, fully assured that what You have promised, You are able also to perform. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen."As you leave this place, may the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Let the faith of Abraham inspire you to trust in God's perfect plan for your life, even when the road ahead seems uncertain. God bless you all.
Overcoming Fear: Lessons from David and GoliathImagine standing at the edge of a vast, dark forest. The trees are so tall and dense that you can't see what lies beyond the initial brush. All you know is that you must go through it to reach your destination. The journey seems daunting, overwhelming, even terrifying. But just when you're about to turn back, you remember the story of a young shepherd who faced an enormous giant with just a sling and a stone. That shepherd's name was David, and his story reminds us that with God on our side, we can overcome any fear.Our scripture for today is found in 1 Samuel 17:37 (NIV): "The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." This was David's confident assertion before he confronted Goliath.1. **David's faith in God:** David didn't allow the size of Goliath to intimidate him. Instead, he recalled God's past faithfulness and let that bolster his courage. Similarly, when we're faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, we should remember times when God has seen us through.2. **David's rejection of unsuitable armor:** Saul tried to equip David with his armor, but David refused, choosing instead to rely on God and the tools he knew—his sling and stones. We too should reject fear and stand firm in our God-given abilities and the assurance of His presence.3. **David's decisive action:** David didn't wait for Goliath to come to him; he ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Often, we must confront our fears directly, stepping out in faith and taking action.This account shows that when we face our fears with faith, reject what the world offers for protection, and take decisive action, we can overcome.Let's remember Romans 8:31 (NIV), "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Fear doesn't stand a chance when we stand with God. Let's pray together:"Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness in all situations. We pray for courage like David's to face our giants, faith to remember Your past deliverance, and the strength to take decisive action. Help us, Lord, to trust in You completely and not lean on our understanding. We declare victory over fear in the name of Jesus. Amen."May God's peace be with you all. May His love surround you, His spirit guide you, and His courage empower you, now and always. Amen.

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.
