Banyana se afrigter, Desiree Ellis, sê sy is teleurgesteld:

The second left on Thursday. The team travelled via Australia after a pay dispute with SAFA highlighting gender pay gaps in the country was resolved. The squabble resulted in Banyana Banyana not playing a send-off match against Botswana in Johannesburg last Sunday. A hastily assembled team of South African lower league players lost 5-0. Australia and New Zealand are co-hosting the World Cup from July 20 and African champions South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia are representing the continent. Just after midnight local time, Banyana Banyana lifted their first ever African title, holding off a late charge from Morocco on their home turf to win 2-1. Nigeria didn't recover from that, even falling to 4th place after the 3rd place playoff, their joint-lowest finish at WAFCON.
Banyana had been denied in five previous Women's Afcon finals – 1995, 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018 – and at the 2022 edition, tasted glory for the first time in the history of the national senior women's team.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Banyana Banyana have made the county proud by grabbing their first ever WAFCON title. The ladies have managed to make 5 finals in previous competitions, however, they fell short at the final hurdle. This time around, saw dominance from the get-go. 3 clean sheets, goals galore, and perseverance saw the ladies of South Africa overcome every opponent and eventually Morocco in the final. A brace by Hilda Magaia was enough to secure the victory in the final. What has this victory taught South African football? First and foremost, consistency is key. Joyeuse Saint-Valentin, mon amour!
