Recorded - 6/30/2024 On Episode 277 of the Almost Sideways Movie Podcast, we review two major releases of the weekend and debate which one was better. Were either of them even the best movie of the weekend? (Everyone says no!) Then, we dive into a comedy classic from the 80's that redefined what comedy could be. What's the best Spinal Tap song? What's the best throwaway line Spinal Tap gives? Should Spinal Tap be considered a Rob Reiner movie or a Christopher Guest movie? All these questions and more are discussed and answered. Mike and Kelsey share their picks for the Best and Worst films they've seen this month. They let you know what you should check out that you may have missed and what to avoid to save you time and money. Mike and Kelsey also share their favorite movie news story including a report on why Disney hasn't had a billion-dollar movie this year. In the Movie Review, Mike gives his thoughts on Godzilla Minus One and why it's one of the best movies of the year. In this story, Japan is already devastated by the war when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster. Mike shares why he oddly loves Godzilla, how the movie was more dramatic than he was expecting, how it crushed it on a 15 million dollar budget and why you shouldn't let the fact that the film is in Japanese keep you from seeing it. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Furiosa which is a part of the Mad Max saga. The film stars Anna Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth and looks stellar but does it have a story to match Mad Max Fury Road? New Episodes Every Monday! Hey everybody and welcome to another episode of The Wrinkled Rabbit Podcast! This week we're talking about Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie, a feature film based on the duo's sketch comedy series. The Devil's Lettuce Film Society goes on another insane head trip as they watch Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie and completely lose the thread as they do so. Just what the hell is going on in this movie? Is this more like The Greasy Strangler or The Holy Mountain? What's the power of Shrim? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Do they still have fountains in malls? These questions won't be answered. Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012) Director: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim Writer: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim Starring: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Robert Loggia, William Atherton, John C. Reilly, Will Forte, Will Ferrell, Jeff Goldblum Note: Please partake legally and responsibly! Also we had some technical issues on this episode, so apologies if it doesn't quite synch properly. But this movie is so batshit insane, it probably doesn't matter.
In the last holiday themed episode, the boobs talk about Miloš Forman's 1967 acclaimed Czech film, "The Firemen's Ball." However, things quickly delve into whether or not "Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie" is funny or not and what makes us laugh in general. Per usual -- this is no laughing matter!
In the second episode of Deep Dish Movie Month, James & Julia discuss the nineteen Jeff Goldblum films they watched in June 2020. They also go over which Goldblum character they'd hang out with and which should have taken his shirt off but didn't, pitch some better ideas for Jeff Goldblum's Jurassic Park character Ian Malcolm, and come to appreciate the quintessential sexy nerd. This month's films: The Big Chill, Transylvania 6-5000, The Fly, Earth Girls Are Easy, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, VibeZ, Into the Night, Mister Frost, Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Hotel Artemis, Run Ronnie Run, Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie, Cats & Dogs, Thor: Ragnarok, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Independence Day, his appearances in Jurassic Park films, and his TV show, The World According to Jeff Goldblum. Matt and Mark's Summer of Funny concludes this week with our review of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie. T&C's brand of humor isn't for everyone, but if you can handle its mix of stupidity and darkness, there's genuine comedy to be had. While Ebert's write-off of the movie is understandable (0.5 stars), dopey overweight white guys with a healthy disdain for corporate propaganda (no one we know of course) should enjoy this movie more than your average joe film critic.Download: 171 Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie

The Suicide of Claire Bishop (Dzanc Books)A Greenwich Village housewife and a present-day schizophrenic find their fates inextricably linked by a mysterious painting as they both battle issues with family, mental illness, love, and the true nature of reality...Greenwich Village, 1959. Claire Bishop sits for a portrait—a gift from her husband—only to discover that what the artist has actually depicted is Claire’s suicide. Haunted by the painting, Claire is forced to redefine herself within a failing marriage and a family history of madness. Shifting ahead to 2004, we meet West, a young man with schizophrenia who is obsessed with a painting he encounters in a gallery: a mysterious image of a woman’s suicide. Convinced it was painted by an ex-girlfriend with whom he is obsessed, West constructs an elaborate delusion involving time-travel, Hasidism, art-theft, and the terrifying power of representation. When the two characters finally meet, in the present, delusions are shattered and lives are forever changed. With West as our tenderly vulnerable and highly unreliable guide, and high stakes that reach across American history, Carmiel Banasky effortlessly juggles balls of madness, art theft, and Time itself, holding the reader in a thrall of language and personal consequences. Gripping, sexy, emotional, The Suicide of Claire Bishop is a dazzling debut that heralds Banasky as an important new talent.Praise for The Suicide of Claire Bishop“Banasky’s memorable, intricate, and inventive debut novel uses vulnerable characters to probe themes of time, identity, perception, and love...With its dancing time frames, recurring motifs, glimpses of history, and shifting realities, all united by striking prose, the novel is both an intellectual tour de force and a moving reflection on the ways we try to save ourselves and others.”—Publishers Weekly“Daring, precise, and linguistically acrobatic, this novel brings a history of America alive, from the war protests in the sixties to turn-of-the-21st-century art theft. A fearless portrayal of madness and its consequences, Carmiel Banasky’s debut novel tracks the life of a suicidal housewife and her unlikely, schizophrenic counterpart. This is a new writer to savor, reminiscent of Nicole Krauss, Michael Chabon, and Andy Sean Greer.”—Colum McCann, National Book Award-winning author of Let the Great World Spin“Vivid, strange and always compelling, The Suicide of Claire Bishop weaves together art, politics and the specter of madness in an unforgettable New York story. Carmiel Banasky, a writer like no other, is a talent to watch.”—Claire Messud, author ofThe Emperor’s ChildrenCarmiel Banasky is a writer and teacher from Portland, OR, who now lives in Los Angeles. Her work has appeared inGlimmer Train, American Short Fiction, Slice, Guernica, PEN America, The Rumpus, and NPR, among other places.
