My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Laury A Egan, author of the book The Psychologist's Shadow.  Laury is the author of thirteen novels and four limited edition poetry volumes. Eighty-five of her stories and poems have appeared in literary journals and anthologies. She is a reviewer for The New York Journal of Books, a fine arts photographer, and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. She lives on the northern coast of New Jersey. In my book review, I stated The Psychologist's Shadow is a psychological thriller that had me hooked from the first chapter. Ellen Haskell is a psychologist who recently moved her practice to remove herself from a bad situation. Somehow, it seems that 'bad situations' follow Ellen, and she soon finds herself in the middle of an obsession. Laury does a wonderful job casting light on several patients and even a family member who could be behind the phone calls, notes, and trinkets. I didn't figure out the stalker. I had ruled out some because they seem too obvious and others because of specific things that happened during the action. I actually thought it was one of the patients that I didn't want it to be! I even suspected patients ruled out by Ellen figuring she was missing something. Finally, I suspected a past boyfriend. Although I hadn't ruled out the real stalker, I certainly wouldn't have bet my life on it! ​Laury did a great job keeping the reader guessing. Although I tend to shy away from thrillers because they often get too graphic, Laury provided all the suspense necessary without adding gratuitous violence. This is a must-read! A trained forensic psychologist turned criminologist she works closely with Queensland police to help them investigate the most complex of cases, usually when a murder has been concealed as a suicide and when investigators must re-evaluate evidence. As the singer and guitarist of The Dirty Nil, Luke Bentham has toured all around the world, performed in stadiums and renowned clubs, shared the stage with legendary bands like The Who, won a Juno Award, and released some outstanding albums that have helped to carry rock and roll boldly — and loudly — into the roaring '20s. Before he was fronting the long-tenured and accomplished Canadian outfit, Bentham was living in the small Ontario town of Dundas and shredding on Nirvana and Green Day covers as a member of Twisted Minds. Recently, My First Band host Tyler Maas spoke to Bentham about the COVID-19 conditions in his corner of Canada, keeping busy in quarantine by writing material with his bandmates/roommates and the singer's lifelong affinity for rock and roll. Over the course of the hour-long discussion, Bentham also opened up about the unexpectedly lengthy run The Dirty Nil has enjoyed, once being paid for a show in Dairy Queen Blizzards, formative early performances and tours, his initial aversion to singing, and why nothing quite compares to banging out songs with his friends in their concrete rehearsal space. This week on Twisted Minds Show Belinda and Dave took over the radio with a roasting of sorts of Dave, since Anthony was unable to be on the show Belinda had many questions for Dave to answer. They were also joined by Dave's younger sister Rachael who also decided to quiz Dave. Between the 20 odd questions we also heard some very random songs, and got to know Dave a little better... or was it a little too much? It seemed that Twisted Minds turned into This is Your Potato, since our friend Dave is now known as a potato, according to his sister. We can also now confirm that Dave isn't Dave anymore either, as he was asked his middle name and from there we found out it was Bernard and Belinda has decided Dave's name is now Bernie. What does this mean going forward? Will Hippy Nights with Belinda and Dave become Belinda and Bernie? Or Javid as this is a nickname of Daves? This week we talk a trip down memory lane to our childhoods, with the cartoons that we were watching as kids. Belinda and Dave were without Anthony this week, but still made the most of the cartoon themes from the years gone by.We added a few random songs, as well as a bit of our memories of the show, everyone remembered The Simpsons, Catdog, Hey Arnold and Daria but there were many shows from Dave's childhood that left some not being able to guess the song. It was an eventful, memorable stroll towards theb past. Of course Dave forgot to bring in the shows that many watched like Li'l Elvis and The Truckstoppers, and a couple of others.
