And why not open an entry in a very special fantasy miniatures advent calendar slash tabletop game from Oakbound Studio - Once Upon A Time In The Woods. And when we're not unwrapping gifts, we're talking about Ecuador, 2001, and the grip of football with despelote from Julián Cordero, Sebastian Valbuena, and Panic, and the surreal, delicate, thoughtful adventure that is A Pizza Delivery from Eric Osuna and Dolores Entertainment. In particular? Well, there's Tax the Rich by Alion, which is a trick-taking game with politics at its core, as well as Night Soil by Grail Games which has… well… quite a different theme. And then there's Joyride: Survival of the Fastest from Rebellion Unplugged, a racing game of driving fast and dirty. If you're a leader in game dev who feels stuck, there is a path forward that levels up your leadership and accelerates your team, game, and career. Sign up here to learn more: https://forms.gle/nqRTUvgFrtdYuCbr6 You can't just test quality into a game at the end. You have to build it in from the start. Ignoring your Quality Assurance team's full value is a fast way to lose millions. The state of game development is at a challenging inflection point, characterized by high-risk live service ambitions and a brain drain of senior talent. Host Ben Carcich sits down with Nathan Tiras, former Game Dev veteran (Riot Games, Singularity 6), to dissect this instability and dive deep into the discipline seen as an "entry-level" role: Quality Assurance (QA). Nathan, who worked his way from a QA Analyst at Riot to the Director of QA and Live Service at Singularity 6 (makers of Palia), argues that QA is not just "testing" but a critical quality function that represents the voice of the player. This deep-dive explores how leaders must move beyond the "QA as tester" stereotype to unlock the massive subjective value and risk-prevention only highly skilled, respected QA professionals can provide. What You'll Learn in this Episode: What "quality" really means in 2025, and why the best QA teams shape player experience How bringing QA in at pre-production saves time, money, and your launch day sanity Why bug counts don't define QA's worth The human edge of judgment, creativity, and tribal knowledge that no tool can replicate How great leaders build quality teams that protect business continuity and deliver real returns Learn more about Nathan: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nathan-tiras-he-him-8a45754/ Company: https://www.whatnot.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathantiras/?hl=en Board Game Geek: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamedesigner/95100/nathan-tiras Check his other YouTube appearances: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2mmERgh19c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xyt3bnBgNqk Connect with us:

Coming in at the top of our newly-invented genre - mobile games to play while standing in a queue - is CMYK's Wavelength, a perfectly-pitched adaptation of the tabletop game of the same name. If that weren't enough, Cuh-Muh-Yuh-Kuh is also putting out Magical Athlete, a game with a solid pedigree, given a fresh lick of 80s illustrated school book paint, by way of a living legend of board games. But that's not all the cardboard we have for you, oh no! We take a look at Wonderbow's asymmetric game of hiding, chasing, and bluffing: Kelp - Shark vs. Octopus. You know me. I love to give credit where credit is due. While reading the book, Who's in the Game? by Terri Tolles Patkin, I came across an interesting variant to Operation; Operation: Brain Surgery. I immediately had to look into this. Operation debuted in 1968. It hasn't really changed in the past 30+ years, other than the “funatomy” parts. No new gameplay was offered until 2002 with the debut of Brain Surgery. Since then, it has had a few other variants on the brand: Pet Scan, Botched Operation, & most recently Junior.Anyway, I went on Board Game Geek and looked into this weird sounding Operation Brain Surgery, and you should, too. It is Cavity Sam's head, just his head. You are a brain surgeon trying to find head themed funatomy parts like Train of Thought, Bright Idea, Cat's Got Your Tongue, etc. And to find them, well, you put your hand into his head. Dig around using only feel in search of the correct new funatomy parts. I am sure this is 100% medically accurate. So, gather your fellow medical buffs, and let's dig into Sam's head in Operation Brain Surgery.Directing people to the get the games tab

Feeling old? You might do after this episode. A classic old Nintendo series has had a big new twist, and it's got us asking “is Mario Kart World made for us?”, plus heading back to the nineties with Humongous Entertainment and Mega Cat Studios and the re-release of Backyard Baseball '97. In case that weren't enough old video games, there's more action from Hamster's Arcade Archives series, with a look at Namco's Air Combat 22 and Aqua Jet. n this premiere episode of Season Five, co-hosts Peterson Toscano (he/him) and Sweet Miche (they/them) explore the urgent question: How do we balance peace and protest in today's world? Prophetic Voices for Troubled Times Australian Friend Greg Rolles shares his experiences with nonviolent direct action, police intimidation, and the risks of faithful disobedience. Arrested more than 25 times for his activism, Greg challenges Quakers to move beyond polite pacifism. “Peace is not the same as passivity. We think that peace is about being polite and nice and being quiet in public spaces. But peace is proactive, and it calls us to take action and take risk.” —Greg Rolles Greg's article We Are Having an Effect: The Necessity of Spiritual Resistance in Climate and Justice Activism appears in the September 2025 issue of Friends Journal (add link to article at FriendsJournal.org). You can also watch the extended interview on the Friends Journal YouTube channel (insert hyperlink). Quaker Renewal in a Fast-Moving World Jade Rockwell, pastor at West Elkton Friends Meeting in Ohio, lifts up the role of renewal and revival in Quaker practice today. “Our emphasis has shifted in the 21st century more towards being a people called to action. We're living in a time when inaction is risky. If we're not able to respond to our world, bad things can happen—and we may be morally responsible if we aren't able to be active.” —Jade Rockwell You can find more of Jade's ministry in the QuakerSpeak video, “Transforming Quakerism in Troubling Times” at QuakerSpeak.com or on the QuakerSpeak YouTube channel. Anger, Grief, and Action This month's Friends Journal book review features Richard Rohr's The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage (Convergent Books). Rohr highlights how the anger of prophets like Amos and Jeremiah matures into grief, then into transformative action. Read Wendy Cooler's full review at FriendsJournal.org (insert hyperlink). Game Recommendation In addition to books, this season introduces a new segment: recommendations beyond the bookshelf. Peterson suggests Fate of the Fellowship, a cooperative board game by Matt Leacock, creator of Pandemic. Players work together in Tolkien's Middle-earth to guide the Fellowship while resisting the growing Shadow. Learn more at BoardGameGeek or through major retailers. Listener Responses Friends share their favorite Quaker expressions—from “That of God in everyone” to “Hold you in the Light.” Eleanor from Colorado reflected, “I think of all people as a Friend or a buddy. That framework helps me move through life more peacefully.” Question for Next Month Quaker gatherings often create space for specific affinity groups—such as Friends of Color, Young Adult Friends, or FLGBTQC (Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Concerns). In this episode, Mark and Stephen talk about what they are excited about. Lydia deals with a existential crisis about keeping too much stuff. And nobody talks about the full motion video game that Dale made during a Global Game Jam during the topic on video content, where they talked extensively about FMV games. Don't worry! Dale edited this episode and linked the game in the show notes below. ;)Lydia played some Dutch gamesGeharrewar in de Sushi-bar - Board Game GeekPort Royale - Board Game GeekStephen is very excited about Kirby Air Riders.
