The R&B icon, dance king and B2K frontman returns to We Sound Crazy for one of the most joyful, grown and reflective conversations of the season. Sitting with hosts Phillionaire, Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony of Louis York, and Tamone Bacon, Omarion comes in talking about his brand new album O2, a deliberate sequel and 20-year answer to his 2005 solo debut O. He walks the crew through the singles The One (built off a Pharrell Williams sample) and Fantasy (a love letter to the divine feminine), the new generation of writers he chose to work with, and why he is more intentional than ever about energy, mental health and the people he lets into the studio. The conversation also goes deep on the spiritual layer he is building under his music, including sound baths, meditation and the philosophy behind his book The Power of Choosing Joy. The episode runs back two full decades of his career too. Omarion revisits his first ever booked job (the moment he decided not to take his braids out for the audition), the You Got Served era that crowned him King of Dance, the B2K mini-movie videos inspired by Michael Jackson, and the legendary Underdogs era at the same studio that birthed the song Oh when Tank walked down the hallway and told him he needed it. He gets emotional about the B2K reunion and the Millennium Tour, breaking down the atonement and forgiveness behind the group's comeback, the family man versions of his brothers Boog, Raz, and Fizz, and how stepping back on stage together helped them heal childhood traumas in real time. He talks the mentors he calls and the ones he wishes he could (Pharrell, Rick Rubin, Jay Z, Kevin Liles), his partnership with Janine McLean, his action drama series Wild Rose on All Black, and his commitment to becoming what he calls a soul school for the next generation. The Rickey Smiley Morning Show delivered a mix of entertainment, nostalgia, and major headlines as the crew discussed the tragic news that NFL star Calais Campbell’s brother, Ciarre Campbell, has been charged in connection with the death of their mother, Nateal Campbell, in Atlanta. Authorities say the case remains under investigation, while the Campbell family has asked for privacy as they grieve. The show also highlighted exciting music news ahead of the ESSENCE Festival, where Missy Elliott is set to lead a special tribute celebrating the life and legacy of Aaliyah. The tribute coincides with the 30th anniversary of Aaliyah’s groundbreaking album One in a Million, a project that helped redefine modern R&B through her collaborations with Missy Elliott and Timbaland. Live from the BET Awards, Gary With Da Tea caught up with B2K, who reflected on 25 years in the music industry and revealed plans for their upcoming album Eclipse along with a new single, “Mileage,” marking the group’s first new music in more than two decades. The morning also featured an in-depth conversation with R&B icon Keith Sweat, who discussed his legacy as a pioneer of New Jack Swing, the enduring appeal of classic love songs, and his upcoming performance on the One Voyage Cruise. Keith shared insights about working with Teddy Riley, his continued passion for creating music, and why love remains the driving force behind his career nearly four decades after his debut. The conversation then shifts to Oprah Winfrey facing backlash after sharing a story about Whitney Houston falling on stage during a past interview, with critics questioning why the story was told now and whether it unfairly revisits painful moments from the late singer’s life. Send us Fan MailA messy question turns into a full culture check: if getting a superpower required hooking up with a superhero, who are we choosing and are we picking for power, money, or pure attraction? We get into Teen Titans nostalgia, big-name comic picks, and the funniest loophole of all: the idea that Tony Stark's real superpower is wealth. It's wild, but it also sets the tone for how we talk about pop culture the way people actually talk about it with friends. Then we hit a debate that gets surprisingly real: would you rather keep Black music or Black food if one had to disappear? We argue comfort and tradition versus the way hip hop, R&B, gospel, and global Black sounds fuel our lives. We also say the quiet part out loud for anyone thinking about cultural impact: remove Black influence and a huge chunk of modern music changes overnight, even for artists outside the culture who borrow the sound. From there we pivot into music talk and entertainment news, including reactions to big releases, how we find new artists through social media, and the hype around Pretty Ricky versus B2K in a Verzuz-style battle. We close out with BET Awards weekend energy, thoughts on Drewski hosting, and our predictions across key categories, plus a quick sports moment where we make it clear who we think deserves the shine. If you like hip hop podcast conversations, R&B talk, Verzuz debates, and BET Awards predictions with jokes and honesty, this one's for you. Subscribe wherever you listen, share this with a friend who argues about culture for sport, and leave a review so more people can find the show.FOLLOW. This special Black History Month episode opens with a quick temperature check on the timeline — Grammy Week energy, viral moments, and what had the internet in a chokehold. From there, the conversation unfolds as a celebration, a critique, and a reality check on Black culture in real time. The heart of the episode centers on music and Black entertainment, starting with Grammy predictions, anticipated wins, and the snubs everyone already sees coming. The hosts spotlight powerful Black music excellence moments, honoring icons like Brandy, Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, and Pharrell Williams. Tribute performances from B2K, Coco Jones, Kehlani, and Erica Bellinger spark a larger discussion about legacy, influence, and who truly gets their flowers while they're here. Eve's long-awaited Grammy win for “You Got Me” raises the question: overdue recognition or perfect timing? The segment closes with reactions to J. Cole's latest freestyle and what it says about lyricism and expectations. In entertainment and culture, the conversation turns critical with the America's Next Top Model Netflix documentary. With Tyra Banks addressing the show's legacy and former contestants speaking out, the hosts debate whether this moment reflects genuine accountability or strategic rebranding — and how much grace time should really get. The episode then opens up into hot debate territory, tackling whether celebrities should be required to speak on social and political issues, if old reality TV should be judged by today's standards, and whether influencer culture is earned or simply the result of lucky timing. The group also digs into the idea of celebrities being “too sensitive” versus finally enforcing boundaries. Things take a darker turn with real-life headlines and internet chaos. The release of Epstein files, alleged celebrity mentions, new developments in the JonBenét Ramsey case, and a second Louisiana prison escape raise questions about truth, conspiracy bait, and how information spreads online. The “we're always being watched” segment explores surveillance culture, leaks, and why receipts now feel like currency. The celebrity crash-out watch segment breaks down Sha'Carri Richardson's arrest and what it could mean for her career, followed by Stefon Diggs dating rumors sparked by Cam'ron's podcast and a broader look at athlete visibility and relationships. A new music check-in rounds things out with honest reactions to fresh releases from DaBaby, Wiz Khalifa, and Ari Lennox — evaluating growth, consistency, and replay value. Finally, sports and culture collide with Super Bowl predictions, MVP picks, and surprise moment calls. The hosts also react to Paul George's 25-game suspension and a thrilling college basketball matchup that reinforces one takeaway: the NBA's future is bright. This episode blends celebration with scrutiny — honoring Black excellence while asking the hard questions about power, accountability, and how culture evolves in public.

Why Summer's Deluxe Slaps, Wale Is Underrated, And Kevin Gates Needs Better Words

Send us a textNew music lit the fuse this week, and we had thoughts. We dig into Summer Walker's latest drop with honest, replay-tested reactions—from that Brent Faiyaz opener and a standout Lotto verse to Anderson .Paak's gut-punch on 1-800 Heartbreak. Then we pivot to Wale's Everything Is A Lot and give it the respect it earns: an intro that bleeds real life, themes that sit with loss and pressure, and the reminder that consistency matters even when the internet forgets. We keep the spotlight on artists who are building in real time with a genuine plug for J Amari's Off The Bleachers, produced with AYO Chris. Expect specific track love, where to find it fast, and why exceeding expectations is worth celebrating. Then the room gets candid about Kevin Gates' comments on dating younger women—unpacking preference vs. power, how language reveals intent, and why “training” a partner isn't the flex some men think it is.Nostalgia hits hard as we map the B2K and Bow Wow tour like event architects: who should open, who should cool the crowd down, where to drop Nuck If You Buck without starting a mid-show mosh, and which act should close. It's a fun, strategic walk through the 2000s catalog that holds its own today. The tone sharpens again as we talk Nicki Minaj speaking at the UN about religious persecution in Nigeria, why credibility and context matter, and how politics collide with fandom. We ask hard questions about platforms, consistency, and whether “canceling” without nuance helps anyone.FOLLOW. SUBSCRIBE. SHARE.
