Going off an earlier episode where Samantha tested Remoy's musical knowledge, this week Samantha checks in on what Remoy knows about TV. Through round after round, our two co hosts explore how TV dads and masculinity have evolved over the decades.Samantha kicks things off with a clip of Al Bundy and his daughter Kelly. Does Remoy remember anything about this dysfunctional yet iconic duo? And what does our laughter about their relationship on Married With Children tell us about fatherhood three decades ago?Bonus Episode: Remoy has to know. Was Samantha's own relationship with her father's anything like Al and Kelly's?You can't not talk 90's TV Dads and not think TGIF: Samantha highlights a heartfelt moment between Carl and Eddie Winslow, one of the few Black father-son relationships on 90s TV.They break down how Family Matters portrayed manhood and why this mattered for representation at the time.Samantha skips forward a decade or two to show Remoy the ultimate suburban survivalist: Modern Family's Phil Dunphy has a near-death epiphany on a camping trip. Remoy reflects on how Phil represents a new era of goofy yet emotionally vulnerable TV dads. You can't not talk TV and not talk animation. But it isn't Bart and Homer for Samantha. It's Bob Belcher from Bob's Burgers who in a tender and hilariously awkward clip bonds with his daughter Tina during a “hairy” situation.Samantha wants to know. Are there any African daughters out there who their father shared in the pain of getting their legs waxed in solidarity? If so, email us at maskulinitypodcast@gmail.comAnother Black father and duo + Schmitt. No it's not New Girl. It's The Neighborhood on CBS.TV laugh tracks aside, Samantha and Remoy take a moment to appreciate a really tender and evolved, but not perfect, moment in modern TV.Samantha shows Remoy a lesser seen moment on TV: An immigrant father-son moment from the crowd favorite Fresh off the Boat.A sweet moment portrayed on the screen for an Asian dad. But would huckster chef Eddie Huang, whose life story the show was modeled off of, approve? Would Remoy? What do you think after hearing the clip? Hit us at our inboxes and let us know maskulinitypodcast@gmail.com.Remoy is sold and wants to play. He shares with Samantha a moment from a new comedy he's been loving. Any guesses to what that series is?Let's just say Harrison Ford playing a therapist and being vulnerable on screen with Jason Segel and many more is a win for both Samantha and Remoy as they appreciate where TV has come over 30 years. Eddie Huang famously said in the pilot of Fresh off the Boat, "I need white people lunch that gets me a seat at the table then you get to change the rules." While it seems to make sense and even be considered solid advice at first glance, we unpack this idea in this episode. What does it mean to get a seat at the table in the workplace? And at what cost for us?

From humble beginnings in the Phillipines, to Arizona, to LA, Eyedress has managed to stay clique agnostic, moving through the world authentically with his laidback skater vibe. He and Joel talk about the challenges of trying to get his music career off the ground as a teenager in Manila, how it took 10 years to “go viral” and surpassing his school age ambitions to work in Starbucks. The conversation comes at an opportune time, as Eyedress dropped the lo-fi punk mixtape COMMITTING CRIMES earlier this year and recently announced his signing to RCA records, along with the release of the Eddie Huang-directed music video for his latest single “Flowers & Chocolate.” Learn more about your ad choices. Watch Nosferatu here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCT1YUtNOA8&ab_channel=BestClassics Fresh Off the Boat is an American sitcom television series created by Nahnatchka Khan and produced by 20th Century Fox Television for ABC. It is loosely inspired by the life of chef and food personality Eddie Huang and his 2013 autobiography of the same name. Huang also executive produced the series and narrated its first season. Depicting the life of a Taiwanese-American family in Florida in the 1990s, the series stars Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, and Lucille Soong as the Huang family as well as Chelsey Crisp and Ray Wise portraying the family's next-door neighbors. The series premiered its first two episodes on ABC in February 2015 to positive critical reception, becoming the first network television sitcom in the U.S. to feature a family of Asian Americans as main characters in over 20 years. Prior to its second season, the series went through a retooling, which included Huang's departure as narrator. It received accolades as well as nominations for major awards, such as Critics' Choice Television Award and NAACP Image Award nominations. After becoming the first series featuring an all Asian American main cast to broadcast over 100 episodes, it concluded in February 2020 after six seasons. The Club by Ellery Lloyd: https://www.ellerylloyd.com/ I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa. We are Members of the Alberta Podcast Network.

In real life Eddie Huang is a chef, a difrector, and an attorney just to name a few things. So as you'd imagine shortly after releasing his autobiography "Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir", studios were jumping at the opportunity to create a show based on his life. The rights eventually landed in the hands of ABC and 20th Century Fox Television. The show depicts a Young Eddie moving from DC to Orlando with his family in the mid 90s. Constance Wu and Randall Park were the first two signed on followed by Hudson Yang taking on the role of a young Eddie Huang. Does this show have what it takes to get green-lit by the S1E1 guys or will they kill it before it can get to an episode 2. Tune in to our review of their pilot and found out! www.S1E1POD.com

I've known Eddie socially for a long time, I've even eaten at his east village restaurant a million moons ago. Sigh... I have so many clothes to return to Champion. I don't know if my hair will grow back in like a few weeks so I'm just gonna put on a beanie. If I were to get said beanie, I want it to say what the main idea of this episode is: Boogie sucked. It was pretty bad. Leave it to Eddie Huang to set a race back at least like 30 years. I got a lot of heat for the pilot episode about the whole argument but now look at where we are: this man used literally the worst Asian stereotype and REINFORCED it. I'm not saying the actor shoulda whipped out the killer, I'm not saying that at all. I mean maybe it would have helped. I'm trying so hard to talk about it and not say it directly but you know what, no. This news comes differently via text and audio. This man made a self insert fantasy movie and GAVE HIMSELF THE SCHMEET come on. How you gonna do that to everyone? How you gonna do that to yourself??? I took down my poster of Han from Tokyo Drift, the world doesn't deserve him right now. On a lighter note, hang out with us on Twitter! Last month, Eddie Huang's "Boogie" came out on Blu-ray. This week, Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous" is out on 4K. The movies may deal with different main characters, but they have a backbone of commonality -- these are films about teenagers figuring out what it means to become an adult. On this week's podcast, we look a little bit more on what, precisely, that means.

When Taylor Takahashi first read Eddie Huang's script for “Boogie” he knew right there and then: that was him, that was how he grew up. But he never imagined playing the part. After meeting the celeb chef and author in a basketball league, the two bonded over food and conversation. What Taylor didn't realize back then was that he'd ever see his name next to the credit ‘actor' and initially refused Eddie's many offers to take the role. Eddie Huang has been fighting for things his whole life. Whether fighting for respect from a culture that is unwelcoming, or fighting for normalcy amidst a chaotic upbringing, or fighting for approval from his immigrant parents, all his achievements came with a cost. Now, with the first movie he wrote and directed under his belt, Eddie tells Marc why the film Boogie represents a collection of everything he's had to fight for. They also talk about his struggles with having his memoir Fresh Off The Boat adapted for TV and why Lynn Shelton was integral to him becoming a director.
