Join Jim and Greg for 3 Martini Lunch as they unpack Trump's tariff threats already reaping results in Mexico, humiliating missteps for Esquire and Ana Navarro regarding Biden's pardon, and the shocking murder of a health insurance CEO in midtown Manhattan.First, they highlight Mexico's record-breaking fentanyl seizure just days after Trump threatened tariffs on Canada and Mexico for failing to curb illegal crossings and drug trafficking. They explore how Trump's tough stance appears to be delivering swift action.Next, they dive into the comedic fallout as Charles Pierce of Esquire and Ana Navarro of The View attempt to spin President Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden with laughably false claims. Jim underscores the importance of basic fact-checking and common sense to avoid such embarrassing misfires. Finally, they analyze the chilling murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. Jim and Greg not only examine the emerging details of the case but also call out the disturbing rhetoric suggesting the CEO "deserved" it due to frustrations over denied insurance claims. Please visit our great sponsors: Oraclehttps://oracle.com/martiniSee if your company qualifies 50% off your cloud bill at oracle.com/martini. HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST continues and we're discussing our second “True Threat Thursday” selection! Every Thursday this month is horror based on true events and we hit up an early slasher film by “Legend of Boggy Creek” director Charles B. Pierce. In 1946 a masked man killed 5 people in Texarkana and seized the mid-size town in fear. Maybe if you removed the cop comedy and the trombone scene then Charles Pierce's 1976 true crime thriller “THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN” might hit a little better. Controversial in the area after only 30 years of the crimes, now they watch this movie in Texarkana every year. I wonder if the crowd does a specific thing when they see the cameraman on the train like they might do during viewings of the Rocky Horror Picture show? This movie stars Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine & Dawn Wells. Of course some there are some changes made from fact. Like the part where the police almost get him after the killer takes a daytime stroll in the woods with his mask on. If it wasn't for that damn train. This movie oughta be free and here it is: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8rbh2u Subscribe to us on YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuJf3lkRI-BLUTsLI_ehOsg Contact us here: MOVIEHUMPERS@gmail.com Check our past & current film ratings here: https://moviehumpers.wordpress.com Hear us on podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/6o6PSNJFGXJeENgqtPY4h7 Our OG podcast “Documenteers”: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/documenteers-the-documentary-podcast/id1321652249 Soundcloud feed: https://soundcloud.com/documenteers Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/culturewrought

Duas horas depois, o Furacão New England atingiu Long Island.
Part 2 of my conversation with Charles Pierce continues with more discussion about basketball icon Larry Bird. Pierce, lead political writer for Esquire, also shares in this second of two episodes why covering the NBA in the 1980s was a highlight of his nearly 50 years of writing about sports. He provides anecdotes about Tom Brady and Bill Belichick that illuminate their grand NFL partnership. Pierce recalls the crazy and memorable days at The National Sports Daily. And he breaks down how he reported and wrote his famous GQ magazine profile of the young Tiger Woods. Make sure to check out part 1 with Pierce. In that first episode, we discussed bars, Bird, Bill Buckner's error, Ben Johnson's drug scandal, and 1980s Big East basketball: https://evergreenpodcasts.com/press-box-access/charles-pierce-part-1-they-rolled-the-champagne-out-of-the-red-soxs-locker-room#episodeContent Pierce has been the lead political writer for Esquire since September 2011. Charles Pierce takes time away from his job as lead political writer for Esquire to reflect on his nearly 50 years of experiences as a sportswriter. As cultural institutions have changed and been transformed by the modern media and technology landscape, so too have political institutions and their corresponding parties. Joe sits down with longtime sports and political writer Charles Pierce, who traces his years covering politics (as sport!). Pierce offers a fresh take on how we got here--and where we're headed--especially amidst a national political alignment that's seeing members of one tribe shifting allegiances to the other.

In this, our second Pride month offering, we bring you 1988 film version of Harvey Fierstein's tour de force Torch Song Trilogy. Fierstein plays Arnold, a young homosexual living and performing in 1970's NYC. Presented in three chapters, we see Arnold struggle and grow in his relationships and along the way learn a thing or two about when and where we find 'family'. Featuring the always-masterful Anne Bancroft as Ma, with Matthew Broderick and Brian Kerwin as Arnold's long term relationships, and the under utilized Ken Page and Charles Pierce playing fellow drag performers. This definitely deserves it's place in the queer canon. Stay safe, stay fierce. ++++++ Intro: by Professor Ping available on Spotify and Bandcamp Outro: AFI performing Torch Song --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/zandkmoviepod/support

In episode 5, I wrap up my 4 -part Wayne Chapman series. I answer some of the most asked questions from the emails, and I continue to ponder the question: Just what the hell was going on in Massachusetts in the 1970's ? I also give my theory on Andy Puiglisi's murder, and why I believe they will never find his body. I also talk about upcoming episodes about the formation of NAMBLA, Nathaniel Bar-Jonah, and child killer Charles Pierce. I understand that the subject matter is heavy. Much like most of you, I am a father of 2 children, and we need to be able to better identify these predators before they offend. These predators don't have fangs, or grow hair at night, the only people who see them for who they really are, are their victims. Thank you. Not even pre-production on a feature film and a regional theater debut could keep Roger and Lovell from chatting with these two iconic pioneers of the Los Angeles queer community! We're thrilled to welcome playwrights and performers Tony Abatemarco and Michael Kearns into the Gayborhood, and they come in hot with perhaps the best Joanne saga yet. After nurturing Roger's play Lavender Men in their roles as Co-Artistic Directors at Skylight Theatre, Tony and Michael have become dear friends and mentors to Roger and Lovell both, and it's a privilege to hear them speak about creating work during the AIDS epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles -- when Michael became the first Hollywood actor to announce he was HIV positive -- and how their lives and careers have marched onward ever since. Plus, we'll hear all about the challenges of self-publishing one's own work, and you'll definitely want to check out their respective anthologies of plays: Tony's Action/Items and Michael's Who's Afraid of Michael Kearns? The origins of language are unknown. Now that's out of the way we can get on with investigating several of the possibilities in this second episode of our series on language. This episode considers Daniel Everett's gradualism thesis that the hominid Homo erectus was an early adopter of language as evidenced by their extensive travels and creation of icons and symbols. We explore this thesis, Pierces' semiotics model, and evidence from the fossil record. Remember, this is a gentle introduction to the topic which fills volumes. Living a normal life can sometimes become redundant. Often times we find ourselves in a routine and are doing what we can to get out. Well, Charles Pierce has done what he can to avoid having that feeling. From knowing at an early age he was not going to get a desk job and work in a cubicle he's been operating in a realm of not standing still. His music career was something that kept him busy for quite some time, while always thinking what was coming next. Moving forward he dabbled with the idea of creating a podcast, which has now turned into him creating not one, but two podcasts. While gaining experience he became connected with Jay Ducote and started working with him on Jay-D's product line. Fast forward and Chuck is now the producer of the Jay Ducote Show on Talk 107.3 FM and a valued member of the Guaranty Media family. Chuck is an amazing person with talents steaming from everywhere! Palast, a Puffin Foundation fellow in investigative reporting, is the author of the New York Times bestsellers, including The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. He is known for his reports in the Guardian, Rolling Stone and on BBC television. “Greg Palast is one of those inconveniently stubborn journalists who gets his teeth into a story and shakes it bloody right there in the middle of the parlor, dreadfully inconveniencing the pampered swells of the elite political press, and revolting the serious thinkers who get to go on PBS and moan about the genuine crisis of American political civility. Palast has been on the voter-caging story ever since people like Pastor Whiting got screwed 14 years ago. Palast [has] dropped a bomb into the elections that has left credibility shrapnel all over the democratic process, if anyone cares to look for it.” - Charles Pierce, Esquire "Greg Palast, America’s wittiest (and wickedest) muckraker. An award-winning Guardian investigative journalist, he is causing crooked election officials all over the country to shiver in their shoes as they wait for a knock on their door from the FBI – thanks to his explosive exposes." - Pacifica Radio Network

The pragmatist tradition in philosophy tends to focus on the pioneering work of its founding trio of Charles Pierce, William James, and John Dewey, who together proposed and developed a distinctive kind of naturalist empiricism. Though they disagreed sharply over central issues concerning truth and meaning, the original pragmatists shared a commitment to the primacy of practice and human experience, and a corresponding distaste for abstract philosophical theorizing. It comes as no surprise, then, that pragmatist work in value theory tends to focus on normative and applied ethics; there is very little in classical pragmatism that one would count as meta-ethics. But philosophical landscapes change, and the area of meta-ethics is at present vibrant with philosophical debates that matter for moral practice, despite their being abstract. It turns out that getting a workable and attractive conception of moral life requires one to address the technical questions of meta-ethics. Accordingly, contemporary pragmatists need to work out a pragmatist meta-ethics. In Toward a Pragmatist Metaethics (Routledge, 2016), Diana Heney gathers crucial philosophical resources from the classical pragmatists in providing a distinctively pragmatist defense of moral cognitivism and meta-ethical generalism. Her book combines a nuanced reading of the history of pragmatism with a sophisticated intervention in contemporary meta-ethical theory. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A generation of great journalists cut their teeth at alt-weeklies, and The Boston Phoenix produced some of the best of them. When the Phoenix announced it was closing last March, the city lost a powerful cultural force and a vibrant source of information. We discuss the Phoenix‘s legacy and the ways in which its loss will affect Boston. Panelists are author and essayist Anita Diamant, who started out answering the editor’s phone in the mid-1970s; Charles Pierce of Esquire and NPR, and a staff writer with the Phoenix in the 1980s and ’90s; poet and classical music critic Lloyd Schwartz, who won a Pulitzer Prize with the Phoenix; and Carly Carioli, who started as an intern and rose to become the paper’s editor. Seth Mnookin moderates.
