Host James Lott Jr will be spotlighting other important characters on Dallas that arent the big 4-5 (JR, Sue Ellen,Pam, Bobby, Miss Ellie) and this one is about Donna Culver Krebbs (played by Susan Howard).

We're down to the official end of the 2021 college football season – that would be Monday's national championship game between Alabama and Georgia – which also means we're wrapping up the 10th season of the Carla and Crappy Show. And in spite of a few late glitches because of omicron, we were able to enjoy an entertaining bowl season –- although Crappy probably wouldn't use the word “entertaining” to describe the first half of the Rose Bowl. It has been our practice over the years to not dwell much on the outcomes of our weekly picks – and that's probably a good thing. But our young friend Aidan was curious to see how we all did with our Bowlapalooza picks from a couple shows ago, so Crappy went back through that episode to tally the results. Two things to be aware of: First, that show was bit chaotic, and in the middle of the craziness Crappy actually forgot to pick three or four of the games, so he's not included in the standings. Also, we've tossed out the Sun Bowl, which brought in a new team after COVID forced a cancellation. You'll need to listen or watch to find out the results. BUT – if you're ever involved with something like this and one contestant keeps saying that they don't really know college football all that well, it's pretty much a given that that's the person who's going to come out on top. But there is one more guest picker to appear on the show this season, and she's got her sights set on the title game. We are, of course, talking about the one person who has pretty much been in charge of the #CnCShow all year – Miss Ellie makes her first live appearance and has a definite idea about who winning on Monday night. Carla and Crappy both have a pretty solid notion about Monday's winner as well, even though neither is especially excited about it. But they'll both be watching ESPN at 8 p.m. Monday when the game kicks off from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy. And that's the season, boys and girls. It's Week 13 of the college football season, and that's significant for a whole bunch of reasons. The most important one? We're getting the band back together -- that's right, Carla returns live for the first time since Miss Ellie showed up earlier in the fall, and we're hoping we get to keep her for the rest of the season. He'll probably yell more too. UTSA at North Texas (2 Saturday, ESPN+) Meep meep, %(*$$&)$)*@ers. Iron Bowl Alabama at Auburn (3:30 Saturday, CBS) Bama should win. Just like Bama should have won the Kick Six game years ago. The Civil War Oregon State at Oregon (3:30 Saturday, ESPN) Oregon State has something to play for. Do the Ducks? Western Kentucky at Marshall (3:30 Saturday, CBSSN) A true hate game with the best AJ Fun Index (74.5) of the weekend. Bedlam Oklahoma at Oklahoma State (7:30 Saturday, ABC) Can Mike Gundy break out of his John Cooper-esque streak of near total futility against the Sooners? Today's episode is the most personal and special one I will tell. The story of the birth of our first child, our beautiful daughter, Ellie Marie. Ellie came into this world on April 17th in the early hours of the morning. She came not as I expected or "planned" to have her come. There were twists and turns, ups and down, and this experience taught me more about strength, surrender, love, and life than any other experience I have ever had. I hope when you listen to today's podcast you feel empowered. I hope you realize what a warrior you are. I hope you know that you are literally capable of doing anything you set your mind to doing and that the BEST things in life, come after hard work and blind faith that things WILL work out! This week, Josh and Leanna take a deep dive into that most melodramatic genre, the teenage after school special. In this episode, Lucy Ewing, the abandoned child being raised (sort of) by Miss Ellie and Jacque, is acting out, skipping school, and engaging in a not-so-secret relationship with the rugged ranch hand Ray. Lucy is 16-17 years old, and Ray is a man in his 30s, so this is rape, plain and simple. Thank goodness the Ray-Lucy statutory rape storyline is short lived. Two episodes in, and the show feels rudderless. JR is still lurking in the background as a supporting player, but we are getting glimpses that he's going to be the breakout persona. It will take another season before we get there, making this first season quite a slog. It's good for some laughs, though, along with some disco--its 1978, folks. Oh, and Josh goes on a rant about main characters being made to dance in movies and TV shows. Dallas may have come and gone, but in many ways it defined an era of time (the 1980s) and all of its excesses, obscenities, and bad fashion choices. Anything that reminds one of a time before COVID, before the financial crash, before 9/11, when global warming was just a gleam in a climatologist's eye, can't be all bad, right? Although it became a ratings juggernaut, Dallas started off its run on fairly shaky footing. Its first season was produced as a 5-episode mini-series, and the lack of direction shows. The first episode, Digger's Daughter, establishes the main characters, but not much else. Bobby and Pamela are newlyweds, and have come home to Southfork ranch to live for good. Why they choose to live there and embroil themselves in the Ewing miasma becomes a running joke for the podcast that never stops delivering. S3, 08 Rodeo The Ewing's are having their annual Rodeo (though this is the first time we've seen one and we're in Season 3…) Sue Ellen has a meet cute with one of the Rodeo contender's Dusty Farlow while shopping in Braddock. There's a lot of long glances and giggles. Is this Twilight? Is he a sparkly vampire? (He does have a lot of oiled up chest moments in this episode, so maybe.) JR notices and is NOT happy. Season 2, Episode 9: Survival    You guys! JR FINALLY has a reason to use his Safari Outfit when the small plane he and Bobby are in crashes! Meanwhile, as authorities are looking for the boys (are they even still alive??? There are 12 more seasons.... spoiler alert - they are!) and the remains of the plane, the family reacts. Most importantly, Miss Ellie finally comes out as the "Do NOT even fuck with me" Queen we all know and love - shotgun and all!!!!   

Season 2, Episode 3: Old Acquaintance When Bobby and Pam got married he forgot to tell her one important fact: he'd been in love with and dating Jenna Wade for most of his life until, on the eve of their engagement at 20, she got cold feet and ran off to Europe.    Jenna came back not too much later divorced from a fake Italian Count name Naldo with a daughter named Charlie. Is Charlie Bobby's daughter? He didn't really care to find out 8 years ago when he was still broken hearted and bitter. Now, when Jenna shows up asking for his help and admitting that she never stopped loving him... he's more than curious - and confused.  Pam is pissed! She tries to play it cool, but Miss Ellie calls her out. Miss Ellie also admits that Jock got her pregnant before they were married and wasn't sure if he wanted "to do right by her". WHAAAAT?  Join us as we drink and dish about all this.   

Gary and Val are reunited at Southfork, which basically puts everyone on edge besides Lucy and Miss Ellie.  Digger falls off the wagon and sells Pam to Jock for $100. Today we'd say that Gary has severe anxiety (oh and is also an alcoholic...), in 1978 they just called him "weak". Well, the Ewing men do anyway.  Gary and Val decide to abandon their daughter again, because no one can just get an apartment in town? Oh, Dallas....     

Season 2, Episode 1: Reunion Part 1 JR, while trying to keep his brother out of the office, sends Bobby to an Oil Conference in Las Vegas. Jokes on him though, because in Vegas, Bobby and Pam run into the 3rd Ewing brother Gary. doh!  Gary is a recovering alcoholic and gambler who has finally found peace from the turmoil of growing up as a Ewing. Bobby convinces him to come back to Southfork for a visit, because he's been gone for 16 years. Gary knows it's a terrible idea, but decides to give it a go.  Back at the ranch, JR and Sue Ellen are NOT into it. Jock is starting to realize that he effed up years ago in how he treated Gary, and Miss Ellie is all, "ZOMG! I get to talk about art and feelings again!!!!" Lucy, Gary's daughter is all, "Wait, who is this guy?"  Also, we meet Lucy's long lost mom Valene, who is an uneducated waitress, but obviously smarter than everyone else in the show.

Tread Perilously begins a month of primetime soaps with the 1980s classic Dallas and an episode called "Shadow Games." J.R. Ewing realizes a land deal his mother has been working on is being brokered by a shadowy bank. He is also trying to take control of Ewing Oil from Pamela, who's gone to South America with guest star Marc Singer. And somehow, he finds the time to keep his cousin Jack out of trouble. Meanwhile, Sue Ellen plans a charity auction, Clayton Farlow's worthiness comes into question and Donna Krebbs tells Miss Ellie an important secret. Back in South America, Pamela gets kidnapped. Also, Jenna Wade isn't over Bobby Ewing. Justin tries to avoid talking about Dallas by invoking Twin Peaks. Erik points out the show's obsession with master-closeup-reverse. Both turn into budget-minded TV producers as they notice the cost-cutting methods of the show. Larry Hagman's subdued performance surprises them both. The conspicuous consumption of the characters leads to a treatise on economics. Justin finds a shocking darkness within the soul of Miss Ellie. Both try to determine why Victoria Principal was mostly absent from the episode. Justin also decides retroactively declaring the season a dream was a good idea and Erik recalls Jock Ewing.

We talk about hospitality and the insecurities we have around gathering the people in our lives.   A Recipe for Maundy Thursday: Chicken and Dumplings From A Homemade Year: The Blessings of Cooking, Crafting and Coming Together Ms. J’s Chicken and Dumplings This recipe is my answer to the Matzo Ball Soup and the Baked or Roasted Chicken that are often a staple of a modified Seder Supper. Not being Jewish, but being Southern, Chicken and Dumplings seemed like the perfect alternative to these traditional Seder dishes. And as for the recipe title, well, that comes from Sweet Man’s nickname for me, in the southern tradition of Miss Ellie from the TV show Dallas. This is a large recipe—enough for twelve adults. Note: You can use homemade or store-bought chicken stock, or a combination of both. For the Broth Bring 15 cups of chicken stock to a boil. Add the following to the boiling liquid: 3 carrots, peeled, washed, and diced (optional) 3 celery stalks, washed and thinly sliced 1 medium yellow onion, diced 1 tablespoon of salt 4 pounds of boneless chicken breast (frozen or thawed) Once the chicken breasts are fully cooked, pull them out, and set them aside to cool. Reduce broth to simmer and leave simmering while you make the dumplings. For the Dumplings Mix together the following ingredients: 6 cups of flour 3 tablespoons of baking powder 3 teaspoons of salt Next, cut in 1 cup of solid vegetable shortening (use either a pastry cutter, or 2 table knives, or your food processor). Once the shortening has been cut in well (creating a crumbly texture), begin adding ice cold water, ½ cup at a time, into the mixture. I use about 2¼ cup of ice water (sometimes I use more, sometimes I use less, depending on the humidity in the air). Your goal is to create a dough that is soft, smooth, and easy to roll out but is not leathery or mushy or grainy. Next, roll your dough out. These dumplings are Southern-style flat dumplings like we make in Arkansas, not the round fluffy “drop” dumplings that are common in the North.          Sista’ Tip: My good friend and baking mentor Lynn taught me this great kitchen tip: When rolling out dough, spread out a smooth kitchen towel on your counter (I prefer the flour sack variety) and cover it with a good dusting of flour. This will be your rolling surface, and after you are done, you can simply fold the towel up and take it outside to shake off the excess.   Roll out the dough, using a slightly floured rolling pin, to between ⅛ and ¼-inch thickness. Next, using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide by 3 inches long. Finally, bring your stock back to a rolling boil, and tear the cooked chicken breast into bite-size pieces, adding it back to the liquid. Once that is done, begin adding the strips of dumpling dough into the stock. Once all the strips have been added, give the pot a good stir, and cover. Reduce the heat to a simmer. Check every few minutes, stirring gently, until the dumplings are tender and cooked through, about 15–20 minutes.     A Prayer for Maundy Thursday: An old mennonite song makes a wonderful prayer for Maundy Thursday -  Sing the Journey     A Printable for Maundy Thursday - Based on the traditional Seder Supper tradition of having four glasses of wine throughout the meal, each representing the four expressions of deliverance promised by God Exodus 6:6-7: "I will bring out," "I will deliver," "I will redeem," and "I will take.” Jerusalem has design a printable that you can give to each dinner guest, or print and deliver to neighbors with a jar of jam or bottle of wine.
