Clowns are supposed to make you laugh, but often can make you shudder. What is supposed to be a figure of fun is for many the stuff of nightmares. Coulrophobia —the irrational fear of clowns that's surprisingly common. This has been reinforced by popular culture, and many horror film-makers know that a scary clown is the perfect recipe for thrills, resulting in them becoming an icon of terror. A study published in Frontiers in Psychology in February 2023 surveyed 900 individuals, revealing that 53% experienced clown-related fear. Participants pinpointed clown makeup as the primary source of discomfort, with its distortion of human features creating an air of menace. Unable to discern true emotions behind the painted facade, people feel unsettled by the clown's unpredictable antics. The Science Behind the Fear What exactly is so unnerving about clowns? Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns, and it is something that may be embedded in our DNA going back to when the human species were hunted by entities that looked like clowns; some call them the Nephilim. Our guest today, Paul Stobbs, dives deep into this subject and is the creator of the "Nephilim Looked Like Clowns" theory. Paul shares what led him on this incredible journey into his theory and also talks about his amazing research and experiences. You will never look at your circus clown the same again! Today we are flipping open our true crime case files to one that might make those among you with Coulrophobia squirm in your seats. The case goes cold for many years before a breakthrough and some neon orange hair finally points a finger at the killer. Kelsey Livengood, such an incredible actress who acts in the movie “Clown Motel: 2 Death Do Us Part” (2022). I was thoroughly impressed with this movie. Although filmed in the hot Nevada desert, I would have to give major props to the location scout for finding abandoned caves to film a movie. However, you would never catch me in Nevada, not even to visit Las Vegas, too much bad stuff happens in Nevada. Have you not seen “Army of the Dead” and other zombie/apocalyptic movies in deserts? Kelsey goes on to tell us what it was like on set and to act with other actors such as Tony Moran, Elissa Dowling, and Ari Lehman. Big names in the horror community and I am sure that it was great to work with them on set. Apart from other ‘Clown' movies, this one definitely sets itself apart from other independent movies that involve the scary nightmares of clowns and things that go bump in the night. Clowns are most definitely top on my list of things to be afraid of. Coulrophobia is a REAL fear in case anyone didn't know… I mean, look at Pennywise and Art. Make sure to catch Kelsey on her podcast “A Little Bit of Mischief” wherever podcasts are heard. And she also stars in the new horror short movie “Sorority Babes” alongside Jessa Flux, Angel Nicole Bradford, and Morrigan Thompson. Vancouver record label Nerve Wracking Collections has just released their latest EP Coulrophobia, a collaborative concept project that includes Vancouver synthpunk bands, Phuture Memoriez and Jibbernaut. The concept involved choosing a theme and releasing a 4 song split EP with another band. This was an opportunity for NWC to expand and have many artists join their collective. Coulrophobia is the first split EP release derived from this project which revolves around the fear of clowns. The guidelines were kept simple so that each band could make their songs their own. They involved creating two new songs that followed the lyrical theme and a desire to release the EP along with a co-headline live show. Phuture Memoriez is a dark synth-pop-punk band from Vancouver BC and is composed of Marc Blaquiere and Jessica Blaquiere, while Jibbernaut consists of local punks “Gears” and “Hammer”. The songs on the EP are short, fast, visceral blasts that are rooted in early punk and hardcore and have elements of Kraut rock and foundational industrial music. Each track is an explosion, an expression of internal turmoil and angst against discordant hooks and symphonic feedback. “Gears”, singer of Jibbernaut, reflected on the inception of the EP, “When Phuture Memoriez approached us about the Coulrophobia project it appealed instantly. There's something inherently terrifying about clowns. The clown archetype has inhabited the cultural psyche for centuries and the idea of someone transformed into a painted/costumed character for the purpose of amusement holds within it the possibility for unfathomable darkness. We performed a week-long ceremony in our Vancouver compound as preparation for writing these two songs. After those seven days of fasting and sacrificial offerings our namesake, the demon Jibbernaut, appeared holding the pale severed head of a clown in its claws. We got to work immediately in a frenzied state of inspiration and 48 hours later we had “Clown School” and “No One's Laughing Now”. Then we ordered deep fried wontons and tantan noodles and slept for three days.” D I S C O V E R TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jibbernautband?lang=ko-KR Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/phuturememoriez/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Jibbernaut/100092412352065/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/phuturememoriez/?hl=en Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/jibber_naut/ Bandcamp: https://phuturememoriez1.bandcamp.com/music Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@nervewrackingcollections5277/featured Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0xX7HI6zFKn6Y5FDKwN8K9?si=xjSBNimsTteBzSS63qBzWA&nd=1 Go to BETTERHELP.com/apologue for confidential online counselling.use the code word Apologue for a 7 day free trial Pledge monthly with Patreon https://www.patreon.com/apologueShop Apologue products at http://apologue.ca/shop Go get the 1 hour mini Documentary on Lowest of the Low's Classic Album Shakespeare my Butt at https://thelowdoc.gumroad.com/l/SMB

Stop Clowning Around! No Really, Why Are Clowns So Creepy?Coulrophobia is no laughing matter. This irrational fear of clowns can cause panic and nausea. Although it's a rare phobia, many people find clowns creepy if not downright scary. Why? The answer lies partly in the prevalence of evil clowns in popular culture—think Pennywise in Stephen King's It (1986). However, according to researchers, there are actual psychological reasons why we fear clowns.Stop Clowning Around! No Really, Why Are Clowns So Creepy?KURIOUS - FOR ALL THINGS STRANGE

They also get advice for a girl because her boyfriend refuses to share his location with her. And they give away another trip to Universal Orlando Resort.
Coulrophobia, or the fear of clowns, is a widely acknowledged phenomenon. And the latest studies indicate this fear is present among both adults and children in many different cultures for many different reasons. And here to discuss why it's unfair to lump the actions of all clowns together, we turn to Mr. Flimbles. Tell me truthfully - are you afraid of clowns? In honor of Halloween, I decided to tackle one of the requested topics I've been hanging on to for a special day –clowns! The creepy, evil kind, to be specific. How did the clown archetype as we know it today evolve over the centuries, and at what point did things take a more sinister turn? What is it about a creepy clown that we love to hate so much? Why is clown fear so prevalent that you are guaranteed to see at least one (if not a dozen) in every haunted house or corn maze? Where do evil clowns show up in the wide world of horror we all know and love, and where do they show up in real life? I am going to answer these questions for you, and tell a nice spooky Halloween bedtime story which is about – you guessed it – a deeply creepy clown with murder on his mind. It's obvious why today, of all days, I would want to celebrate the creepy clown, right? Because creepy, evil, demented maniacs with smiles painted on their faces are terrifying, horrifying, and totally Creeptastic! See visuals for this episode on Instagram! Coulrophobia is the irrational fear of clowns. People experience extreme cases of anxiety, a racing heart, nausea, and profuse sweating. Most people can avoid clowns. Some need exposure therapy, a type of psychotherapy, to help manage their reactions to clowns and clown images. There is supposedly nothing to be afraid of but what if there is something instinctual about our fear of those in the brightly colored clothes and face paint. Perhaps it is a survival instinct meant to protect us from something darker. The related urban legend of evil clown sightings in real life is known as "phantom clowns". First reported in 1981 in Brookline, Massachusetts, children said that men dressed up as clowns had attempted to lure them into a van. The panic spread throughout the US in the Midwest and Northeast. Join Gary and GoldieAnn as they take another trip Within The Mist to discuss the origin of clowns and some of the terrifying cases that suggest that there are some evil clowns out there in the shadows and woods tonight. Coulrophobia is a fear of clowns. Experts estimate that 1 in 10 adults have this fear. While clowns want to spread cheer, some people find them downright creepy. So what could be worse than a single clown? How about an entire motel dedicated to them? This motel is no laughing matter.Aptly named the Clown Motel, this desert destination is straight out of a horror film: Over 600 clowns can be found on the premises, according to the tourism website for Tonopah, Nev., which refers to the motel as a “landmark.”Are you ready to enter the circus???If you loved this episode please subscribe and share it to your friends. If you want to see what Anne and Renata are up to join them on their social media platforms at Anne and Renata.Follow Anne and Renata:Facebook: @AnneAndRenataInstagram: @AnneAndRenataYouTube: @AnneAndRenataTikTok: @AnneAndRenata#ghosts #hauntedsites #paranormalpodcasts #truehauntingspodcast #podcastaboutghosts #anneandrenata #frightfullygood #truehauntings #ghosts #spectres #spirits #haunteddestination #clownhotel #hauntedclownhotel #hauntedamerica #paranormalpodcast #poltergeist #apparition #clowns #hauntedtravel #hauntedrooms #hauntedsite #hauntedhotels #hauntednevadausa#theclownhotelnevada #theclownhotel #hauntedclownhotel Hosted on Acast. Coulrophobia is no laughing matter. Although the actual phobia is somewhat rare, most people agree that clowns are creepy. Clowns as pranksters, jesters, jokers, harlequins, and mythologized tricksters have been around for ages, but when did they turn into the sinister beings that haunt our nightmares? This inherent creepiness was taken to an extreme with the idea of the ‘killer clown.” And some people believe this started with the arrest of infamous serial killer-John Wayne Gacy. Also known as "The Killer Clown", Gacy murdered 33 young men before burying them in his crawl space. Coulrophobia is, by definition, the fear of clowns. According to the Cleveland Clinic website, those who fear clowns may experience extreme, irrational reactions when they see them in person or in various forms of media. So when creepy clown sightings started popping up in 2016, it created a full-blown panic across the country. Reports and videos of these "Killer clowns" spread like wildfire with claims that some of them were attempting to lure children into the woods. What most people don't realize is that these sightings originated in the upstate of South Carolina. What was the inspiration for these clown sightings? Some think it was promotional material for upcoming films, but maybe the motivations were more sinister than we thought. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/support
