We're still here once more! How dumb are we? We're locked in hot & heavy with Luke schooling Steve from the onset over Derrick Coleman's jersey number. How about that? Govier lives in Canada now & has been watching Luke play softball from across the Detroit River. Luke shares some new comedy with us from some guy named Dan Cummins. Luke saw Hope Davis at a bar once in NYC. Leigh Ann pops in to say hello to everybody! Govier loves to laugh at the whiskey laugh & then the gratuitous cursing from the guy who robs the party store in Robocop. It's so funny! Luke loves boomer TV & has wistful nostalgia for the Murder She Wrote & Columbo days. Then Cancer Boy from Kids In The Hall's Brain Candy shows up. Govier found himself in the crosshairs of someone's rage on the day of the Trump shooting. Never forget that Richard Simmons died that day too. The Joker premise of it's all part of the plan from The Dark Knight remains true today. Govier wanted to share his experience chatting with his co-worker about the Democratic National Convention & how the goal posts for meaningful change can be vastly different for each person depending on several factors. Luke & Govier don't seem to understand each other, which happens on this show. Can you listen to or watch shows where they review a movie in-depth even though you haven't seen it? We have your emails! They are all from Mr. Pink who is clearly our number one guy on the show! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us through electronic messaging. We are grateful. We love you all! This talk show is not the same without you listening and emailing us your highly entertaining thoughts. We close the show with Graduate by Third Eye Blind. If any of our nonsense provokes your thoughts, please share them with us at isitsafepod@gmail.com or check out our Discord:https://discord.gg/wXPdgujdSj

From there he would make the bridge to his current role, taking care of the health of the community. An appropriate role for him considering it has been precisely the sense of community what has kept him in Web3. “The reason I'm in the space is because there are these communities of people that care for each other and look out for each other because of some shared values or goals. I'm not here for the libertarian not-your-keys-not-your-coin-get-off-my-property vibes. I'm here for the let's make an internet co-op so we can work together and have less extractive value systems sucking out whatever value we create for the sake of the shareholders”. With that in mind and a strong purpose on education, he's been aligned with ETH Denver Ethos to buidl, to create the world we live in and shaping its tools and foundations; this is what excites him about bringing together the people and the technology in a cooperative of people that are incentivized to see each other succeed. “I care first and foremost about the buidling. The only thing you can do with Bitcoin is hold it, so maxis turned that into a meme; you can Hodl aka not sell, but over on Ethereum, which has a smart contract layer, it gets more interesting because you can build code on top of the machine, so instead of Hodl we Buidl interesting projects using that technology, so our entire ecosystem of buidlers buidling their projects is the key thing and the part I'm excited about”. We point our GPS towards the Garden State this week, for a return to the days of pro hoops in places like the "RAC" (Piscataway's Rutgers Athletic Center), the "Rock" (Newark's Prudential Center), and the strangely iconic Meadowlands - as we look back at 35 seasons of the oft-forgotten New Jersey incarnation of NBA basketball's peripatetic Nets franchise with sports historian Łukasz Muniowski ("Turnpike Team: A History of the New Jersey Nets, 1977-2012").   Though replete with memorable moments both before (as the inaugural American Basketball Association's New Jersey Americans, and later the twice-champion, Julius Erving-led, Nassau Coliseum-based New York Nets) - and after (as the thoroughly rebranded, Barclays Center-domiciled Brooklyn Nets, since 2012) - it is the club's time as the New Jersey Nets that stands out to fans and scribes alike as the most colorful, bewilderingly forlorn and oddly endearing period of its existence.   Join us for memories of players like Bernard "Sky B.B." King, "Super John" Williamson, Buck Williams, Sam Bowie, Derrick Coleman, Stephon Marbury, Jason Kidd, and Vince Carter - and a team that twice came this close to an NBA Finals championship (2001-02; 2002-03), unwittingly solidifying a decades-old inferiority complex that arguably still permeates the franchise today. + + + PURCHASE Łukasz Muniowski's book "Turnpike Team: A History of the New Jersey Nets, 1977-2012" in either paperback or Kindle electronic versions NOW!

ABOUT NYC POINT GODS PREMIERING FRIDAY JULY 29th AT 8PM AND PT ON SHOWTIMENYC POINT GODS Premieres Friday, July 29 @ 9PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME Directed By Sam EliadSubjects | Rafer Alston, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, God Shammgod, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland and Dwayne "Pearl" WashingtonSYNOPSIS: The gritty blight of New York City in the '80s revealed a cultural resilience, one that ultimately birthed East Coast hip-hop and inspired a style of play on the basketball court that endures today. The elegance of the city's elite point guards, molded by the packed streetball courts, unwritten rules of bruising pickup games, and the perseverance required to survive everyday life, has come to define an era of basketball and American culture. Their transcendent style is etched in the consciousness of all who have witnessed these prodigies. The New York City point gods' lasting impact on the game of basketball can be seen around the world, in virtually every league. The film features a who's who of point guard deities: Rafer Alston, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, God Shammgod, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland and Dwayne "Pearl" Washington. They brought theatrics, dizzying ball control, stylish misdirection, and a shake-and-bake game from the asphalt to the city's hallowed high school gyms and to the NBA, orchestrating successful offenses at every level. NYC POINT GODS explores not just how the city shaped these distinct players, but how these wunderkinds shaped and advanced the game under their watch, and whose impact continues to shape the game today. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnzzi0QDK-wKENNY ANDERSON BIOKenny "Chibbs" Anderson played his high school ball at Archbishop Malley HS. After a college career at Georgia Tech, he played point guard professionally from 1991 to 2006, mostly in the National Basketball Association.Anderson was selected by the New Jersey Nets with the second pick in the 1991 NBA Draft. He was the youngest player in the league at that time. He averaged seven points, two rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. In Anderson's second season he nearly doubled his point, rebound, and assist averages. In his third season, he averaged 18.8 ppg and 9.6 apg. Anderson and teammate Derrick Coleman represented the East squad in the 1994 NBA All-Star Game. He was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 1996.Anderson has played for the Nets, Hornets (including both Charlotte and New Orleans franchises), Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics and the Indiana Pacers, and split a season for the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers. In 1998, Portland traded Anderson to the Toronto Raptors for Damon Stoudamire, but he refused to report to the team because he did not want to play in Canada. The Raptors traded him to the Celtics for Chauncey Billups.Anderson was released from Lithuania's Zalgiris Kaunas after the 2005-06 season.NYC POINT GODS ARTICLE FROM DEADLINE.COMShowtime has set a summer premiere date for NYC Point Gods, a feature-length documentary on the enduring impact of New York City point guards who honed their craft on the city's playgrounds and high school gyms in the 1980s and '90s.The pic from Showtime Documentary Films and Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman's Boardroom tips off at 9 p.m. Friday, July 29, on the premium cable net.NYC Point Gods features a who's who of point guard deities: Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland, Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, Rafer Alston and God Shammgod. Smith, Cam'ron, Fat Joe and college coaches Lou Carnesecca, Jim Boeheim and Rick Pitino.Said Durant, a two-time NBA champion and the league's 2014 MVP, "Everyone knows an NYC point guard when they see them, and the point gods of this film were instrumental in changing the game for everyone."Here's the official logline: "The gritty blight of New York City in the '80s revealed a cultural resilience, one that ultimately birthed East Coast hip-hop and inspired a style of play on the basketball court that endures today. Magic. Gervin. How a Detroit church gym became the birthplace of legends The Once and Future Saint How one Detroit basketball court became a sanctuary for many Ceciliaville "Les Chroniques de Motor City", c'est votre podcast dédié à l'Histoire et à la Culture des Detroit Pistons. 56: Diversity and Inclusion in Finance & How to Boost the Momentum

What did you do in 2020 to make a change for the better? Last year, companies were asked to be accountable and actionable about their diversity and inclusion efforts. The results have been mixed. As Derrick Coleman of Creative Financial Staffing has written, “Improving diversity at an organization does not happen overnight. It will take time and effort for companies to make progress and begin building a more diverse workplace.”  Young professionals and recent grads are eager to see themselves represented in a company's leadership. Diversity and inclusion initiatives are helping to reshape representation across the accounting world.   On today's episode of the Taxgirl podcast, Kelly is joined by Derrick Coleman to talk about how a diverse workforce is good for both the culture and the bottom line of an organization. Derrick is the Managing Director for Creative Financial Staffing of Los Angeles, where he serves as a practiced leader of GHJ's recruiting division. CFS specializes in the placement of accounting and finance professionals into temporary and permanent positions across a broad range of industries.   Listen to Kelly and Derrick talk about companies' diversity and inclusion efforts in a post-pandemic world: Why is it important to have diversity in the workplace, especially in the world of tax and finance?  Research shows that a diverse workforce is more profitable at the end of the day, why don't we see more companies making more of an effort to improve right now? The tax and accounting fields are notoriously resistant to change. Derrick says education is key; companies need to start having open dialogues about these topics, and really listen to their staff. As a young professional new to the workforce, there's such an advantage to seeing yourself and your identity represented in your field. Derrick shares how companies can begin to make representation more of a priority.  When hiring, how can professionals learn to look beyond their internal biases, from sharing an alma mater with an applicant, to tackling race and gender biases? Search engines, technology, and online recruiting software have already widened the field and can help companies cast a broader net when seeking to hire. But how can firms teach their staff to overcome their biases when it comes to interviews and offers of employment? Derrick encourages teams to go through mandatory unconscious bias training, with an emphasis on retention just as much as recruitment. He says firms have to make the effort to mentor and develop diverse professionals on a daily basis, long after they've recruited them to the team. The demographics numbers regarding who is graduating versus who is managing teams do not match up at all. In other words, it can be hard for new grads to find an influential mentor in their field that looks like them.  Diversity and inclusion commitments start with the leadership of the company, Derrick says. And it's up to the leadership teams to keep the DEI strategy at high priority, and to assign mentors and sponsors throughout their ranks and across all demographics.  How can staff members practice being supportive allies once new diverse employees are in place, without putting the pressure onto that new staff member to educate the rest of the team? What are Derrick's recommended resources for companies just getting started with putting diversity and inclusion initiatives into place? How can staff members work on speaking up on behalf of creating more diversity equity and inclusion efforts, without causing accidental harm or offense in the meantime? Derrick says that everyone will make mistakes along the way; it's important to create a safe space and stay dedicated to your own further education into the subject. Where does Derrick see diversity and inclusion initiatives going in the future, and how can companies keep expanding upon them for a more diverse and inclusive workplace environment?   More about Kelly Phillips Erb:   Kelly is the creator and host of the Taxgirl podcast series. Kelly is a practicing tax attorney with considerable experience and knowledge. She works with taxpayers like you every day. One of the things that she does is help folks out of tax jams, and hopefully, keep others from getting into them.     Steph Curry and Draymond Green survived foul trouble and the Celtics' best effort to continue their record winning streak. BOSTON – Somehow, the streak continues. The Warriors came to the Garden without Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes, facing an intense effort from the Celtics. But the longest streak to open a season in American sports history could not be stopped, despite the Celtics taking them down to the wire in two overtimes. Although they barely got a breather over the last 20 minutes of play, Steph Curry and Draymond Green were incredible forces.  Curry finished with 38 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists while playing the stretch with four fouls. Green kept pace with MVP, putting up the league's first 5x5 (At least 5 points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) in three years. Green had 24 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks. The only other players to get a 5x5 with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds were Hakeem Olajuwon and Derrick Coleman, per the Washington Post's Tim Bontemps. The Celtics could not have defended Curry better.  Avery Bradley made his life hell for the first 3 quarters.  With foul trouble sending both players to the bench for different stretches, Evan Turner and Isaiah Thomas were called upon to...READ MORE
