In this episode of our podcast, Pastor Ken Senchal explores the heart of discipleship, emphasizing the significance of beginning each day with Jesus. Drawing from Matthew 28:19-20, Pastor Ken articulates that being a disciple means being a student of Jesus' teachings and embracing the mission to make disciples of others. Key Takeaways 1. Dedicate a Specific Time for God - Establish a predetermined time each day for prayer and reflection. Following the example of biblical figures like David and Jesus, who prayed in the morning, sets a powerful precedent for starting your day with God. 2. Prepare a Place with Resources: - Equip your prayer space with essentials such as a Bible, prayer guides, and worship music to create a conducive environment for connecting with God. 3. Focus on Three Element: - The Word of God: Listen to God's voice through scripture. - Prayer: Engage in heartfelt conversations with God. - Worship: Lift your spirit through worship, transforming your perspective even if circumstances remain unchanged. 4. Overcome Common Obstacles - Discipline: Rooted in discipleship, discipline helps maintain consistency despite distractions or apathy. - Distractions: Minimize interruptions from devices and daily tasks to prioritize your spiritual time. - Apathy: Push through spiritual dryness with steadfast discipline, recognizing that commitment often precedes emotional engagement. Pastor Ken encourages everyone to commit to a daily time of prayer, scripture, and worship. This foundational practice not only fortifies your relationship with God but also equips you to make a meaningful impact as a disciple of Jesus. Does your parish's current list of ministries help your people evangelize? It's likely the answer is no. Most parish ministries were built during a time where people flocked to church. But the culture has changed, and our ministries need to as well. So today, I bring you the first episode in the series How to Build a Clear Path to Discipleship (https://equip.archomaha.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Clear-Path-Explained-w-Graphics-Mar-2024.pdf). Rachel Gifford, Director of Catechesis & Evangelization at St. Mary's Parish, highlights her parish's journey through the phase of assessment. She shares how they examined existing programs to identify gaps in reaching newcomers and building up disciples for the work of mission. Challenges included resistance to change and feeling overwhelmed, but the parish found support in prayer, coaching, and revisiting their mission. Despite the difficulties, they saw positive outcomes, with new families registering and a renewed sense of faith in the community. Here's what to expect from this episode: [03:50] The Initial Steps: Vision, Mission, and the Assessment Phase [07:41] Navigating Challenges and Building Unity Through Assessment [12:13] The Power of Shared Vision and Language in Transformation [17:31] Practical Steps and Realizations in the Assessment Phase [28:59] Detailed Breakdown of the Clear Path Stages [38:45] Looking Ahead: Next Steps and Advice for Others For more on the Clear Path, read the book, A Clear Path to Discipleship (https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Path-Missionary-Disciples-Parish/dp/B0CHL7DB58): How to Make Missionary Disciples in Your Parish For more practical advice and experiences from real people sharing their mission with the world, go to https://equip.archomaha.org/podcast/. What does the Lord say about the plans you have for your parish? As you seek renewal for your parish community, are you intentionally asking for the Lord's input? While many of us are prayerful individuals, praying collectively with a team about the strategy for becoming mission-oriented probably feels like uncharted territory. However, if we want to succeed, we must invite the Lord to be part of the process. In this second episode of the series How to Build a Clear Path to Discipleship (https://equip.archomaha.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Clear-Path-Explained-w-Graphics-Mar-2024.pdf), Fr. Damian Zuerlein, Dcn. Doug Lenz, and Ann Lenz from St. Frances Cabrini discuss how as they brough change to their community, they remained open to God's direction and surrendered to His will, even when faced with challenges and uncertainties. Their experiences reflect a deep sense of faith and openness to the Holy Spirit's guidance in their parish life. Here's what to expect from this episode: [06:37] How St. Frances Cabrini embraced Discernment and Renewal [14:35] The Power of Community and Creativity in Faith [18:30] Taking Leaps of Faith: Stories of Discernment and Action [27:04] Navigating Change and Finding Purpose [29:30] The Role of the Holy Spirit in Guiding the Community [38:43] Reflections and Advice for Faith Communities For more on the Clear Path, read the book, A Clear Path to Discipleship (https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Path-Missionary-Disciples-Parish/dp/B0CHL7DB58): How to Make Missionary Disciples in Your Parish For more practical advice and experiences from real people sharing their mission with the world, go to https://equip.archomaha.org/podcast/. Lionshare held an event this summer called the Leadership Games. It was a different experience for two groups of people - the first, a set of older more seasoned leaders that prepared for a year to disciple a set of younger leaders in the ways of God. They met those young leaders at the Leadership Games in groups divided up by vocational field. Now, they are meeting for the next year to take them through Lionshare's primary discipleship tool called "A Discipleship Journey" and learning how to apply Scriptural principles in their personal and professional lives. Faith Radio's Carmen LaBerge who took part interviewed Dave Buehring about her experience as a leader and one of the hosts of the event. In episode 279, explore how HOPE comes to life in two very different ways, hear the origin of HOPE, and explore how your strengths - individually and as a congregation - can inform how you go about offering HOPE. If you're thinking, didn't they say last week was the final episode about HOPE? You are correct. But, we realized that having separated the four aspects of HOPE would help to bring the conversation together. The cost of discipleship is more than just about saying “yes,” but also what we're saying “no” to. The ministry of availability is a commitment of discipleship that promises access to your life within healthy boundaries. Are you available to those you want to influence and teach? No one likes to talk about weakness, but God loves weakness. The Apostle Paul encourages us to see ourselves as needy and powerless, but we live in a culture where we don't want to show any vulnerabilities. That's an opening for attack. But the Scriptures tell us God's power is made perfect in weakness. How do we live that way? Episode notes available here. When Tuvsho was born, her country was just coming out of 70 years of Communism. A child's Bible, two audio cassette tapes of the Jesus film in a language she didn't know, and a red-headed missionary all played their parts in her journey to Christ. Now she is the Director of Heart of Mentoring. (H.o.M.E.). This episode leads you along that journey through her words, and the words of the missionary that finally led her the final steps to the Lord.
