We have been separated for about two and a half years and by and large, it has definitely been one of the hardest experiences from an emotional perspective. But you know, I feel like on the whole we have navigated things incredibly positively. And at the same time, still, two and a half years later, there are still many, many firsts that we are going through. And of late, I have found some of these firsts really triggering and it has brought up so many challenging feelings for me to navigate. Well, I wanted some help. And then I decided I didn't want any help, but cut my nose off to spite my face, block myself from receiving. That's it, I'm fine, I can do it. And it was really interesting, because I heard myself like, in the moment, I was able to witness myself blocking myself from any receiving. And in the moment, I was able to have the awareness but not stop the action. 08:42 What I leaned into was , knowing that I am infinitely supported. And I allowed myself to be supported by somebody who had offered it in the first place, who I had rejected and then decided that my pride and ego were not more important than the thing that I was manifesting.14:37 How can I approach this differently? She has toured around the country from Stand up to Shakespeare. Michele earned her Masters in Educational Theatre from NYU and has her principal, supervisor, and theatre teacher certifications in the state of New Jersey. Shortly after she started my own company Propbox Players designed to engage, excite, and educate using theatre for the youngest thespians. Geared towards infant to early childhood, Michele reshaped Propbox Players to be one of the only theatre companies that specializes in inclusion performances. This was inspired by my daughter's developmental delays and how cognitive development is enhanced through role play and movement. Propbox Players performances are interactive comedic retellings of fairy tales and original concepts. In going through a divorce, she took a theatre teacher position in Hoboken Public School district and earned a supervisor and principal certification in the state of New Jersey. As an educator, Michele has built relationships and collaborations with Broadway Licensing, McCarter Theatre, The State Theater, and multiple colleges that connected my students to artistic and academic opportunities. Recently Michele transitioned back to performing full time because of the success Divorce Diaries has had and opportunities to travel with the show throughout the country. Divorce Diaries is performed monthly in NYC and NJ and has been performed in Las Vegas, Chicago, Nashville, Huntsville, Birmingham, Naples, and Albany to name a few. It follows my post-divorce journey as a single mom teaching kids with special needs and dating men with special needs. Divorce Diaries Show Creator Michele Traina If you do not ask the question, then the answer will always be no. I happened to be on Instagram when there was a notification that our guest Michele Traina was doing a live video. I jumped on because I've wanted her on the podcast ever since I started to follow her on IG. I dropped a comment in her feed, and well, here we are. Michele is someone that, if you get on her wrong side, then you won't be sleeping with the fishes, nope, you will be part of her comedy act. Just ask Police Officer Mike. From Michele's bio: Michele Traina is a performer, educator, and creator of multiple performance brands that carry a thread of healing through humor. She has toured around the country from Stand up to Shakespeare. Michele earned her Masters in Educational Theatre from NYU and has her principal, supervisor, and theatre teacher certifications in the state of New Jersey. In 2013 she founded Propbox Players, a theatre company for young audiences geared towards inclusion and performance for diverse learners. Her one-woman show How to Be A Successful Teacher was in United Solo Festival in 2012 as well as multiple other performances in the tri-state area. She continued her one-woman show 'train' when she was getting divorced by putting her diary on the stage. Michele created Divorce Diaries in 2013, and it has evolved into a one-woman comedy show that laughs at life's beautiful mishaps. A Jersey Native, Michele's work has a trademark accent and physicality to it, unlike anyone else. She's fiercely energetic and uses her own challenges in life to motivate and inspire her practice as an educator and performer. Michele's obsession with coffee, high kicks, and running literally everywhere. Her favorite role will always be a mom to her beautiful daughter, Grace. It's not easy making the decision to leave after having a child together, but Michele didn't want her daughter to grow up thinking she had to stay in an unhealthy relationship. Michele finished her Masters degree, started her own theater company, and is finding a fulfilling life in comedy.
