HORROR WITH SIR. STURDY EPISODE 509
This is the trial that a Supreme Court judge never wanted to hear. Over many months, Justice Marcus Solomon warned of the “human cost” of a prolonged and highly public trial if former defence minister Linda Reynolds made good on her threat to take her former staffer, Brittany Higgins, to court for defamation. And so it has come to pass. Reynolds, who has mortgaged her home of 40 years to pay for her legal costs, says she has been nationally vilified. Higgins, who is now pregnant, has yet to take the stand, but has reportedly sold her home in France - where she moved to start a new life - to defend herself. Today, WA Today reporter Jesinta Burton, on the toll that suing one of Australia's most public rape victims - as found by the civil courts - might have on both women. Allan's Wife and other Tales by H. Rider Haggard audiobook. In 1885, H. Rider Haggard introduced Allan Quatermain, elephant hunter extraordinaire, in his best-selling African adventure novel 'King Solomon's Mines'. Haggard went on to publish twelve Quatermain novels and several novellas and short stories, including the four in this collection. 'Allan's Wife' explains how Quatermain became a hunter early in life and recounts the tragedy of his brief marriage to Stella, his childhood sweetheart. The three shorter tales are hunting yarns narrated by Quatermain as an old man. In 'Hunter Quatermain', Allan is faced with a raging wounded buffalo and in 'A Tale of Three Lions' and 'Long Odds', he takes on no less than seven lions. First published in 1889, this collection was re-published as the twenty-fourth volume of the celebrated Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library series in 1980. Learn more about your ad choices. Darrell Cronk, chief investment officer at Wells Fargo Wealth & Investment Management -- president of the Wells Fargo Investment Institute -- says the market's current rally has it ahead of where it should be, and he expects a slowdown both for the economy and the stock market early in 2024, lasting until the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates and stimulates the economy, kicking off a strong second half of the year. In discussing Wells Fargo's outlook for 2024, Cronk recommends that investors keep some dry powder waiting for that inflection point. Tom Lydon, vice chairman at VettaFi looks to a genomics fund that has been a bit out of favor for his ETF of the Week, noting that he thinks the fund and the area it invests in are ready for a takeoff. Plus, Glenn Tompkins, senior global market strategist at VectorVest makes his debut in the Market Call, and Chuck has a surprise extra segment based on the day's headlines.
Sometimes, some people come into your life in the most unexpected ways and they have a remarkably positive impact on you. Keshav is a friend of mine who helped me conceive this podcast that you listen to and you've told me that you like. He was the one who helped me narrow down my thoughts, come up with a specific idea that I could begin with. He also taught me the softwares, the editing - everything. But more than that, he kept pushing me to make this happen, he ensured I kept moving forward even when I doubted everything. All that he's done for me and this podcast was reason enough for me to bring him on and talk to him. But there is a lot more to this person - He is a regular corporate junkie turned a parkour athlete and a coach, he's a yoga practitioner, and will soon be a teacher, he has his own podcast called moving forests, he also has a couple of businesses including an content consulting business, and he's also a filmmaker - he does ad films, he does documentary films, and just worth a quick mention he's a part of history. He was a part of the team that made the documentary - The elephant whisperers, the one that brought home the oscar, and he was recently invited along with the film's team for a special screening at the Rashtrapati Bhawan by the president of India. He likes to downplay everything he does, which is also a quality I admire sometimes, but there's so much about him that I want to know because his experiences are diverse and rich. We agreed to record this podcast to capture his super fresh 10-day vipassana meditation experience in Rajasthan. But we went with the flow, took detours, pulled new threads and had a great time doing that. I hope you'll stick around till this end of this special episode, and so without further ado, here's Keshav Sharma and Me in the Find your ultra podcast Episode 27. Indulge away! Darrell Cronk, chief investment officer at Wells Fargo Wealth and Investment Management says that investors can expect a recession and market troubles during the first half of the New Year, but a recovery to start later on, noting that he expects the stock market to bottom out while the economy gets to where interest rates and inflation start becoming more reasonable. Cronk says that investors looking to be back in the market next year should be dipping into sectors where demand is consistent regardless of the economy, meaning health care, life sciences, defense companies and energy stocks. Also on the show, Tom Lydon, vice chairman at VettaFi -- the founder of ETF Trends -- reverts to his roots and makes a trend-following fund his pick as the ETF of the Week and, in the Market Call, Scot Bennett of Invest With Rules talks about how the rules apply and how well they have been working in today's difficult market conditions.

After a Virginia jury handed Johnny Depp a resounding victory in his defamation battle, Amber Heard's legal team floated new messaging: The verdict was a "tale of two trials"—the U.S. trial that the Pirates of the Caribbean star won and the U.K. one that he lost. The latest episode of Law&Crime's podcast "Objections: with Adam Klasfeld" takes a deep dive into the differences between the two legal systems, featuring an exclusive interview with Swedish criminologist Teresa Silva, whose peer-reviewed critique of the U.K. ruling made her the toast of Depp's online supporters.Prominent British barrister Gavin Millar, who represented an investigator reporter for The Guardian in another high-profile defamation battle involving Cambridge Analytica, picks apart the similarities and differences between the two systems. Both interviews took place on the day of closing arguments in Depp and Heard's U.S. case, before they delivered their surprising—and, by some accounts, contradictory—mixed verdict. Joined by Pastor David Englehardt & Turning Point USA Contributor Isabel Brown, Charlie examines the uncanny similarities between the times we're living in and the events written about by Charles Dickens in 'A Tale of Two Cities,' written all the way back in 1859, based on the French Revolution that played out through the 1790s. They walk through the crippling impact that such a stark divide can have on a republic, the difference between 'the ruled' and 'the rulers,' and what everyday Americans can do about it in an age that truly seems to be a return to both the best of times and the worst of times. Black and White Noise - the official podcast of Dunfermline Athletic FC
In a return less likely than getting a full refund for those 48 packs of toilet paper, it's the unexpected new episode of Black and White Noise, the official podcast of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club! As the world struggles under the brunt of the coronavirus/SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 crisis the Boys from the Noise return from their accidental exile to add their hopelessly ill-informed tuppenceworths. Helping us keep the debate to the more salient points, we were delighted to be joined by DAFC Chairman Ross McArthur, and board member and Supporters' Liaison Officer Drew Main who talked us through some of the most recent news at the club, and in particular the efforts to avoid the worst of the crisis and the amazing response (again) of Pars fans in supporting our club in a time of need. We were 'led by the science' of course, and met remotely through the wonders of Zoom on 31 March. Reports that Stephen insisted on a custom background featuring an endless loop of Martin Hardie's freekick against the Rovers are unconfirmed at this stage. In fact so much did we enjoy our Zoom chat (and also the immediate rendering of half of it as completely outdated and pointless when the SPFL vote just days later suddenly changed the landscape considerably) that we did it again on Tuesday 28 April! The resulting show is thus cobbled together from those two recording sessions. Hopefully doesn't sound too much like it. Anyway, we hope you enjoy it. Also, is anyone still reading this? Thank you loyal fan, thank you. Many thanks to: - Ross McArthur, Chairman, DAFC - Drew Main, Board Member and Supporters Liaison Officer, DAFC - Craig Brown, Media & PR Officer and club photographer, DAFC Black and White Noise is produced and hosted by Stephen Dunkerley and Michael Thomas as a voluntary service for DAFC. “The experience and feeling that another person who is close to you is really curious about you and who really wonders who this person is - someone who is interested in asking the question: ‘Who are you?’ I think it is through that type of curiosity and the relationship which stems from that, that we develop a lot of our sense of self and who we are.” Description: Harvey Schwartz welcomes Dr. David Clinton from Stockholm, Sweden. He is originally from Scotland but is now based in Sweden where he has been working in the eating disorders field for over 30 years. He is a member of the Swedish Psychoanalytical Association and an associate member of medical psychology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and the Director of Research at the Institute for Eating Disorders in Oslo. David is involved with research and training in eating disorders professionals at the Karolinska Institute and has a private practice in psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and clinical supervision, working in both English and Swedish. For 10 years, Dr. Clinton has worked closely with the eating disorders advocacy group called Healthy and Free which is part of the National Association against Eating Disorders. Together with this group, he has been actively exploring new ways of stimulating closer collaboration between clinicians, researchers, patients, and families. Outside of the eating disorder field, Dr. Clinton has been engaged in psychotherapeutic work at the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education which runs a public-funded clinic for psychosexual health. He has worked with eating disorder patients who struggled with pervasive problems linked to sexual self-destructiveness and trauma. As you will hear in my conversation with David, he has taken up the challenge that a patient posed him many years ago, when he was working just with symptom alleviation - the patient said: “You helped me to survive, but now you have to help me learn to live.” Key takeaways: [4:44] The interference of eating disorders with intimacy. [5:39] The morbidity of eating disorders. [7:09] Going beyond the symptoms. [7:37] The role of trauma in patients with eating disorders. [9:34] The trauma caused by not being seen. [10:56] The feeling of lack of presence in the other person’s mind. [12:09] The curiosity of the patient regarding the therapist. [15:30] From the concrete to the metaphorical. [15:47] Dr. Clinton shares a case example. [20:36] Patients working to be seen and loved for who they are. [22:25] When the patient becomes aware that the therapist does not think about them as an object but as a subject. [23:35] Discovering a new inner self. [24:15] Dr. Clinton talks about his work with the patient advocacy group. Mentioned in this episode: IPA Off the Couch www.ipaoffthecouch.org Recommended Readings: Bruch, H. (1973). In 1982, there was an epidemic of sides splitting at CBS Electronics due to all the laughing. What was so funny? The programmers were handed a new arcade game to adapt for the Atari. "Tell me again what it's called," one giggling programmer said, gasping for breath. "It's called GORF," the other shrieked, wiping mirthful tears from his eyes. This week's game in episode 190 is the space shooter with the dumb name: GORF. Part Space Invaders, part Galaxian...all fun? We shall see. A Tale of Two Sisters'.

Season 3 is an purposefully unusually structured season, designed to satisfy the die hard fans but only made them angry. Ben and Kevin discuss why that choice was made before diving into the two episodes themselves. Picking up from where Season 2 ended, we see where the Others took Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, get introduced to some new Others, and find out if Sayid's reconnaissance mission with Sun and Jin was a success or failure. Our two flashbacks show us how Jack dealt with his divorce and a side of Sun we never fathomed could exist. Grab yourself a fish biscuit and join us as we chat about the Season 3 premiere!
Gareth looks at the story of Isaac and Ishmael and where two major religions: Christianity and Islam parted ways. What is the example God showed us that maybe counters our own approach to people of other religions and cultures? People are trapped by the culture by which they find themselves in. Are we? Are you? We must not let our fears and prejudices get in the way. Following God's example we should take initiative, serve and respond.
Ruth Ozeki is the author of 'My Year of Meats', 'All Over Creation' and 'A Tale for the Time Being', which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. For Granta’s Japan issue, she wrote an essay on her grandfather: about a mysterious photograph she has of him and about the ways she feels linked to him across time. In the latest Granta podcast, she reads from the piece and discusses it alongside her latest novel, 'A Tale for the Time Being', touching on haiku, feminist Buddhist nuns, memory, the idea of cultural gyres and why and how she wrote herself into her book. 'I'm mixed race, I'm kind of like the meeting point between these two cultures and these two histories. And somehow that is in my DNA, and growing up mixed race, it always did feel like there was a tension there between the two halves. And I never was quite sure who I was or who I was supposed to be... it seemed very odd and unstable to be who I was.'
