The Job Judge podcast discusses the negative reputation that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs have been receiving due to being hijacked by individuals wanting to replace white men with women and people of color. However, DEI was never meant to be an affirmative action program, but rather a tool to help individuals succeed in their job. The podcast cites a case from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in March 2024 where a white man, David Duval, sued his former employer, Novent Health, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act for being fired solely to achieve racial and gender diversity targets. The court found that Novent Health had no record of any documented criticism of Duval's performance or reasons for termination, and that he had performed exceptionally well in his role. Therefore, the court ruled in favor of Duval and awarded him with $10 million in damages. The case serves as an important example for corporations implementing DEI programs to understand that it is illegal to fire individuals in the name of DEI to achieve equity. The podcast stresses that DEI is about inclusion and belonging and not about replacing one group with another. "I'll be the judge of that!" The Job Judge Podcast is a podcast for anyone who works. This is not legal advice! Engaging and informative, it's a must-listen/watch for any manager, business owner, HR professional, or anyone who works. Relying on three decades of experience as an employment law attorney and HR Executive, Karen Michael uses real case studies in the news and navigates through the legal landmines and workplace dysfunction that we know is probably happening right now in your organization.

This Monday episode begins with the NBA minute with both Andy and Brendan wallowing in Cavs and Kings losses, but one still claiming a victory Monday. Then they move to the LPGA's first major of the year, or alleged major. Both express some dismay about the lack of pop at the first Chevron Championship, from the weather to the course to the pace of play. They congratulate Lilia Vu and feel for Angel Yin, but they wonder about what distinguished this event from others on the LPGA circuit. At the Zurich, they discuss the format and what an event like this might do in the future to stand out any more, if that's even possible. There's also a full recounting of John Daly and David Duval's alt shot Friday. LIV's big party down under is discussed, with some praise for the crowds but still questions about the product. The finish is a live viewing of the Charlie Wi vs. Mark Hensby playoff until dark on the Champs Tour.
In this episode we dive into the party down under at LIV Adelaide. From the watering hole ace, to massive crowds, to the play inside the ropes. We also recap the Zurich team event, and discuss how this alternative format fits into the PGA Tour schedule. Our #GreatGolfDebate discusses the over/under for a pair of scratch golfers playing alt shot on a course like Zurich - could they beat John Daly & David Duval? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/livingituppod/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/livingituppod/support
This Friday episode begins with a discussion on whether 4/20 falls into a fake holiday category. Brendan is joined by Joseph LaMagna to discuss this and other important topics, like John Daly and David Duval shooting 3-over par in a best ball format, Paresh Amin's alt-shot potential, and other non-competitive elements of the Zurich. Tiger Woods's announced surgery is also discussed, as is the notion that he should be calling it a career. They hit on all the LIV teammates playing together in Australia, and how that's anti-competitive. Zach Johnson's softened stance on LIV players potentially making the Ryder Cup team is noted. There's a delectable Tony Romo rumor about his presence at the celebrity Champions Tour event. They close it out with SGS Golf Advice on rules jerks, a guy bringing his kid to every round, wearing golf shoes to a Tour event, and catching a guy picking up your ball.
There was a lot of new equipment to see down at the Zurich Classic. Breaking down some new prototype gear from KBS, Odyssey, and PXG that was on the range. We also take a deeper dive look into the bags of David Duval, Steve Stricker, and a few others!

Over the past 25 years, Mac has represented some of the most well-known and accomplished players in golf. Mac played collegiate golf at High Point University in the mid-80s. After college, he worked in the airline industry before taking a position at Pros Incorporated, a legendary agency created by Vinny Giles that represented the likes of Tom Kite, Lanny Wadkins, Davis Love the third, David Duval, and Justin Leonard. Pros Inc. was purchased by Octagon in the late 90s, and in 2003 Mac left to be Davis Love's full-time agent and create his own agency, Crown Sports Management. Mac also helped establish Sea Island as an epicenter for Tour pros and attracted talented players such as Jonathan Byrd, Lucas Glover, Brandt Snedeker, and Brian Harman. In 2013 Crown merged with Lagardere Sports. Since leaving Lagardere in 2018, Mac has set out to reinvent the sports management approach with his new company Rock Sports by helping professional golfers maintain purpose, focus, and balance both on and off the course.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, David Duval rose to prominence on the PGA Tour by racking up a dozen wins and a major championship. At one point, he was going toe-to-toe with prime Tiger Woods. However, after his greatest triumph, it's been a steady and steep decline since. 771: Chip Beck was only the second player in PGA Tour history ever to card a 59 in a sanctioned PGA event. He’s also only one of two that posted that score in the 90s (1991 Las Vegas Invitational) along with David Duval who did it at the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The very first 59 was in 1977 by Al Geiberger, all the rest have come since 2000. Jim Furyk posted a 59 in 2013, yet he also has the all time low Tour event score of 58 posted in the 2016 Travelers Championship. Chip is also a four time winner on the Tour. But today he’s a golf coach and wants to help you get better. In the first of two episodes featuring Chip, we talk about how he got started playing at the age of 10 and shares incredible stories from his time on the Tour between 1978-2015 that include Jack Nicklaus, Ben Crenshaw, Raymond Floyd, Lanny Wadkins, and more. Next week will have two guests. Chip will finish it up talking about PerfectMotion app and make an exclusive offer to Golf Smarter listeners that you’ll definitely want to consider as your holiday gift. Then we’ll also conclude our episode with the CEO of PerfectMotion to learn all about how it works and why it help. Here’s a short video from Chip about how PerfectMotion.io can help you. This week on the Golf Smarter Mulligans episode 87, we get the chance to hear an episode that was originally For Members Only and has never been released in public. Our conversation is with PGA Certified Teaching Professional Tommy Masters answering listener questions about their swings and other faults.

Phil tells me how he decided to remain amateur for a year and he won the New Zealand amateur title before heading over to the PGA Tour School in America. Phil speaks openly about making the transition to the professional ranks and discusses the steep learning curve he was faced with and how he improved and became a tour winner. Sportscaster Jimmy Roberts talks about his book "Breaking The Slump – How Great Players Survived Their Darkest Moments in Golf– and What You Can Learn From Them”. Jimmy, who was just coming off of back surgery 2 days earlier, and only home from the hospital for a few hours, provides background on his reporting for Wide World of Sports, ESPN, and NBC golf coverage. He shares how he got intimate stories from some the of the greatest golfers of our generation on how they dealt with adversity of being in, and getting out of a slump. Everyone has a story, but there are few reporters who can get people to expose the intimate and sometime painful nature of adversity the way Jimmy can. He shares stories from Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Dan Jansen, Hal Sutton, David Duval, Davis Love III. He also offers great quotes and lessons learned from writing the book.
Jason Walters has played golf his entire life. As a young golfer, he quickly became one of Memphis' best junior amateurs. He then went on to play golf at Georgia Tech University alongside Stewart Cink, David Duval, and Michael Nicklaus. After college, he gave the professional tour a try, eventually returning to Memphis to start a successful career in finance. Jason and his wife Nicole recently started an investment company called GGNJ and they currently have real estate developments in Collierville and Germantown. I enjoyed diving into their work at ggnj.co and encourage you to visit their site. Jason and I had a great time recording this episode as he shares many amazing golf stories including one about Tiger Woods and another about Jack Nicklaus. Enjoy!

For years Mac Barnhardt was one of golf's top agents—shepherding the careers of the likes of Davis Love III, David Duval and Brandt Snedeker from his perch in Sea Island, Ga., where he created a sanctuary to develop and nurture talent. But in 2018 he was, in his words, fired by the company that bought his company. Now he's reemerged with a plan to revolutionize the way athletes are managed. In a wide-ranging conversation with Bo and Farrell, Mac provides some of the insights and stories from his long career and his pursuit of the next client to lead to a great career.

In this episode of series 2, the Legends of Golf series, I was absolutely privileged to be joined by one of New Zealand's greatest ever sportsmen- Professional Golfer Michael Campbell. In 1992, Michael helped New Zealand win their first ever Eisenhower Trophy, where he would finish second behind his teammate Phillip Tataurangi. New Zealand beat the USA team into 2nd place, by an incredible 7 shots. The USA team featured future major winners David Duval and Justin Leonard. Michael would soon turn professional, winning in his first season, before stunning the Golfing World at the 1995 British Open, after shooting the lowest round of the week, a brilliant third round 65, to take the lead. He would end up missing out on a deciding playoff by 1 single shot and John Daly would triumph against Costantino Rocco. As his experience grew, Michael would go head to head against Tiger Woods on numerous occasions and he managed to beat Tiger more than once! He became only the 2nd major winner from New Zealand, when he won the 2005 US Open, after Bob Charles had won the British Open in 1963. Lydia Ko would become the 3rd New Zealand Major winner in 2015. Michael Campbell became only the 4th player in the history of Golf to win the US Open and World Matchplay championship in the same year in 2005. I reached Michael in Spain, where his teaching academy is based. Michael shares some amazing insights into how he gained a mental edge at the 2005 US Open and also channelled the Tiger effect to go on and win! This is an incredible Golf story from start to finish, that we can all learn a massive amount from, enjoy! Tiger Woods is on the verge of history. The man currently holds the rights to every other major championship besides the Masters, and he's waited more than eight months for his chance at another green jacket. Standing in his way are two of the top 10 players in the world, Phil Mickelson and David Duval. Alan Bastable and Sean Martin join the show to break down just how wild (or not so wild) it was watching Peak Tiger do his thing.
This Wednesday episode disposes of some brief news before a lengthy dive into the life and career of David Duval with special guest Sean Martin, Senior Editor at PGA Tour dot com. The brief news is an Olympics postponement and Justin Rose using the occasion to show off his fancy watch on social media. Then we get to our SGS Spotlight subject: David Duval. Sean joins us to discuss this turn-of-the-century legend but quickly becomes an observer to an unexpected back-and-forth on O’Meara vs. Duval. We pore over Duval’s career with a fine-tooth comb, from his amateur days to his Nike Tour success to his legendary four-year run that put him at No. 1 in the world. Some stats from his 59 at the Bob Hope, his close calls at Augusta, his Players, and his Open are given the treatment. We discuss the sudden and precipitous fall after that Open win and potential comps in pro golf history (and present). Then we read from and marvel at some of the details of his personal story and tragedy, much of which was captured in an all-time profile from the great Gary Smith, a piece of writing that had us tearing up at times during research.

This Friday episode begins with some quick reactions to early scoring from across the world of golf. This prompts further angst about the fact that there is no Shotlink at the other venues this week as well as a listener submitted take comparing David Duval and Jordan Spieth. On the LPGA and Euro Tours, we get into the joy of a mixed event and call for more on all tours. Then there is a segment on some of the responses to the distance report, ranging from DJ’s lovable indifference, Paul Casey’s real estate quackery, Phil taking the “it’s the athletes not equipment” line, and an unnamed PGA Tour spokesman falling back on the line that the game is more exciting than ever. We react to some of these and give them their proper weight. In news, Bryson’s inclusion on a Top 50 fittest athletes list is covered as well as Phil’s adamant stance that he will not accept a U.S. Open special exemption. We wrap with Flashback Friday that gets into the 2010 Pebble Pro-Am, one of the rare instances when David Duval posted a top 10 after 2001.
JP declares the Dubai Desert Classic no longer a major for a very good reason. We also discuss the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and the strange feel it put over the golf tournament. Preview of the Waste Management and many other great opinions

In this episode Randy chats with author Kevin Robbins about his new book, "The Last Stand of Payne Stewart: The Year Golf Changed Forever." Kevin's book covers Payne Stewart during his magical 1999 season, chronicling his journey and transformation as a man and as a golfer before his tragic death in October of that year. As the back flap of Kevin's work reads, "[Payne's] death marked the end of an era, one made up of "shotmakers" who played the game with artistry, guile, finesse, and heart. Behind them were Tiger Woods, David Duval, Phil Mickelson, and other young players whose power and strength changed the PGA Tour forever. With exclusive access to Stewart's friends, family, and onetime colleagues, Kevin Robbins provides a long-overdue portrait of one of golf's greats in one of golf's greatest seasons."

Brendan and Andy hop on the horn for some instant reactions to the first day at Royal Portrush, but not without first relaying some information exposing the junk science behind the fraudulent physicist’s golf ball ad. Andy also reveals some amusing intel about the physicist hitting seven tee shots into one hole during an Open practice round before finally proclaiming it “impossible.” Then they move to the real action of the day and debate the internal out-of-bounds that ejected Rory McIlroy. They also review Tiger’s day and put forth some compelling evidence of why he SHOULD play the rest of the season, especially at next week’s WGC Swampass Invitational. Lee Westwood’s round is celebrated and given its just due as they examine whether he has the staying power for the weekend. They also consider the nightmare scenario of the Pace Car ruining the Open and playing in the final group on Sunday debating shots in the wind. Would Marty Sleeps ding him with a slow play penalty? They wrap with some “contender or pretender” before Andy attempts to argue that David Duval, of the 20-over 91 first round, played better than Tiger Woods.
On Thursday's ENN, Andrew's in for Peter (sort of) with stories on Tiger's rough day, David Duval's even rougher day, Melvin Gordon's holdout and more.

Frank Moore P.G.A has over 20 years of experience in golf instruction with an interesting teaching and playing background. Learning from many of today's golfing legends, Frank brings a unique blend of experience and perspective to the lesson tee. My first exposure to golf was in the early 70’s. I had a few lessons from the local pros. The first lesson, really sparked my interest in the golf swing. I improved quite a bit, and broke 80 that same year. Next, I took a few lessons from a pro that favored the Square to Square Method. I had a tough time with this, but I figured out a way to make it work. I went on to play college golf. I did fairly well, and made the All-Conference team one year. We had a good team, and won both the State Small College Tournament, and the District Tournament during my college years. I have now been in the golf business for over 20 years. I started as an assistant pro in Virginia. There I gave my first official golf lessons. The pro I was working for was interested in teaching, and seemed to like the Golf Digest instructors… Flick, Toski, etc.. I did the best I could to help the people, with what I knew. Later, I worked for a pro in North Carolina that favored Jimmy Ballard’s teaching methods. I learned a little about this type of teaching, and did use some of the ideas with my students. Next, I worked for a former tour player in Indiana. Here, we taught strictly according to the Jim Flick type format. We gave many, many group lessons, and did junior golf camps. The next several years I was back in North Carolina working as an assistant pro. I became a PGA Member during this time. I continued teaching, doing the best I could with the knowledge I had. I took a few lessons from an up and comming pro named David Leadbetter during this time. During these years I met a pro that was winning many local pro tournaments in the area. He actually played in the P.G.A. Championship, and made the cut. I found out he adhered to a method that had something to do with a machine concept. We met a few times. He gave me a few pointers, but later referred me to a teacher in South Carolina. I attended my first Golfing Machine School in 1988. The GSED was Tom Tomasello. I saw here a clear way to teach and learn the physics and geometry of a golf stroke. My teaching, and playing started to improve, as a result of my new knowledge. A year or so later, I attended the Advanced School that Tom offered. In attendance was Clarence Moore, 2 time U.S. Senior Amateur Champion. He gave a demonstration of his pattern. He was very impressive. He could Hit, or Swing equally well, at least it appeared that way to me. I picked up more useful information at this school, especially relating to the short game. I continued to work with Tom up to his death. I also worked some with Alex Sloan, GSED I gained more insight from Alex, although his methods were quite different from Tom’s. Later, I taught for 3 years with GSED George Kelnhofer. There, I was exposed to many tour caliber players, and good amateur players. David Duval, Larry Mize, Charley Rymer, Stuart Cink, Craig Perks, and Charles Howell were the many players that came through there. During the next several years I taught in Atlanta. During this time I knew, and worked periodically with Tom Ness, GSEM I learned a great deal from Tom, especially about the short game. I also knew, and worked some with Chuck Evans, GSED. I developed back problems later in my career. During this time I contacted David Lee, because I heard he had a method of swinging that was back friendly. I found that David had quite a knowledge of physics, as it pertains to golf. I taught briefly in his indoor facility, Gravity Golf, in Atlanta. A year or so later I met Lynn Blake, GSEM. Lynn has a unique level of understanding of The Golfing Machine, due to his personal involvement with the author, Homer Kelley. Through my involvement with Lynn, along with Ted Fort and Steve Ferguson, I gained an even greater insight into The Golfing Machine. I am currently the Director of Instruction at The Frank Moore Golf Academy at Dunes West Golf and River Club, in Mount Pleasant, SC. He has obsessively been studying the golf swings of the games greatest players and the teachings of what are considered to be the world's best teachers for the past 30 years. As Dave's teaching philosophy developed he realized that the “true” secret of the golf swing is the clubface and the ability of the golfer to control it throughout the entire golf swing. The majority of golfers in the world do not have a good understanding of the clubface position throughout the swing. Dave made the clubface position throughout the entire golf swing the center piece of his professional instruction, which resulted in his students achieving greater success much more quickly.www.clubfacegolf.comAvila Beach Golf Resort - www.avilabeachresort.com Blacklake Golf Resort - www.blacklake.comInn at Avila Beach - www.avilabeachca.comAvila LaFonda Hotel - www.avilalafondahotel.comGolfland Warehouse - www.golflandwarehouse.comSlickstix - www.slickstix.comFor more information on Golf Talk Radio with Mike & Billy visit www.golftalkradio.com and visit www.centralcoasttoday.com for Golf Talk TV with Mike & Billy.
