Today I am joined by Eileen Lamb, founder of the Autism Cafe. I recently shared a video of Eileen's son, Charlie, that really struck a chord with my audience. It showed how his use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) had progressed over time, offering a message of hope for others in similar situations.Eileen talks openly about how tough it can be to share your family's journey online. Her story started when Charlie began showing signs of autism at 18 months. What began as updates on her personal Facebook for friends and family soon grew into the platform she has today, with a large following across social media.Among her involvement in the field, Eileen is also an author. Her first book, All Across the Spectrum, is an autobiography that explores her experience being diagnosed with autism after her son. It highlights the differences in severity and what it's like to parent a child on the spectrum while being on the spectrum herself. Her second book, Be the One, is a collection of prose poetry about overcoming life's challenges. Eileen's third book, And Yet Here You Are, is coming out soon. For parents raising children with autism, Eileen has some advice: Be mindful of social media. While it can be a great place for finding support, community, and information, it can also lead you into a lot of unnecessary controversy.#autism #speectherapyWhat's Inside:Raising an autistic child with high support needs.A warning for parents on social media.Elieen's personal journey with autism and sharing with the online community. All Across the Spectrum, Be the One, and Eileen's forthcoming book And Yet Here You Are.Mentioned In This Episode:The Autism CafeEileen Lamb (The Autism Cafe) on FacebookEileen Lamb (@theautismcafe) on InstagramEileen Lamb on TikTokJoin us in the ABA SPEECH Connection MembershipRose Griffin (@abaspeechbyrose) on Instagram

After dealing with Asperger-related symptoms for most of his life Mayfair was diagnosed in 2019 with autism spectrum disorder, a developmental condition that causes challenges with a person's communication, social interactions, sleep habits, moods, and attention span, among other things. Previously, during the 2006 season, Mayfair was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery, returning to the tour two weeks later. Along with his family, Mayfair began a nonprofit foundation tasked with providing support to both amateur and professional athletes and their families who struggle with spectrum-related disorders.

If you're a parent who enjoys hitting the trails with your little ones, you're already aware that toddlers will walk some of the journey and want carried the rest of the way. There are tons of contraptions for carrying babies while on the trails, but what about those in between, toddler years? You don't want to bring a big bulky carrier for a kid who's only going to use it some of the time. The Trail Magik Kid Carrier solves that problem and does so brilliantly. Invented by a Dad who wanted to take his 3-year-old backpacking. It's for kiddos 12 months up to 43 pounds. The carrier attaches onto hiking backpacks and durable daypacks that have a waist strap & upper loaders. Weighing less than 10oz, it's so portable, you can stuff it into the side of your backpack when not in use. It's a game-changer for the "outdoor adventure family" community. The Autism community has become quite divided with Adults with Autism verses parents of kids with Autism. There are many heated debates on Facebook pages between the two groups. Since Eileen has a large platform on Instagram and Facebook, it has made her a target  with Autistic adults making threats and insults toward her as a mom. But the ironic thing is, Eileen is also on the Spectrum herself, so technically she fits into both categories. In Part 2 of her interview we talk about the division, and about her son Charlie entering school for the first time.

Eileen is a young mom and blogger of the "Autism Cafe" which has a huge following on Instagram and Facebook. When her son Charlie was diagnosed with Autism, she herself was tested for Autism and she found out that she in fact is also on the Autism Spectrum herself. Doctors recommended that she put her son into ABA Therapy, but when she read about it online she feared what it would be. But her fears were relieved as her son thrived at the therapy center and he began to communicate,  which in turn took away a lot of his frustration.
