And then a few lines later… But he's no good at being uncomfortable, so he can't stop staying exactly the same. I remember making the connection back then that to change, to evolve, means that we're going to be uncomfortable.  So it's a good practice to get comfortable being uncomfortable.   So today, I want to share a meditation with you that will give you the opportunity to practice being comfortable being uncomfortable - both physically and metaphorically - so you can use it as a tool as you continue your own beautiful evolution.  So let yourself settle into a seated position, Either sitting cross legged or with your legs slightly parted in front of you. Now as you draw your breath in, See if you can straighten your spine just a bit, Pulling your shoulders back, And pushing your chest out.  Find that place that isn't too rigid,  But still erect and relaxed. And then find your breath. Following its movement in and out of your nose.  Breathe in, Breathe out. PAUSE… Keeping this position, place your hands on your legs, Palms facing up. Nice and relaxed, Let your fingers either rest into a position that's comfortable,   Or lightly touch your middle finger to your thumb.  Now breathe, And feel the air easily filling up your body in this position, Cleansing you, Calming you. PAUSE… There is no perfect meditation position, And perhaps you're recalling that these meditations rarely ask you to be in a certain position. But today, we're practicing sitting here very deliberately,  Aware it may be different for you,  Aware that it may bring up some physical discomfort, So you can practice being comfortable being uncomfortable.  So for the next few minutes, we're simply going to practice being here,  Present in this position. One with your breath, And connected to your body. And if your body sends you messages of discomfort,  See if you can simply be with those discomforts, instead of changing them.  Now breathe… LONG PAUSE… Now bring your attention to your breath, Taking a deep breath in, And on your exhale, go ahead and release this position if you'd like, And settle into one that's more comfortable for you.  PAUSE… Now take a moment to think about anything in your life that feels uncomfortable right now.  Perhaps there are discomforts in your work,  In your relationships, In your health, Or in your finances.  See if you can bring to mind just one example of a situation or thing that is uncomfortable or unsettled for you right now.  And then be here with it.   Without changing it. Without thinking of solutions. Without judging it.  Just sit with it. Releasing any meaning it may have for you, Like petals falling from a flower. And just observing it for the next little bit. LONG PAUSE… You are a woman of love and light,  And your special journey is a constantly evolving work of art, That asks for you to practice being comfortable being uncomfortable,  So that you may flourish as you are destined to. I hope today's practice helped.   Namaste, Beautiful

"The Idler Wheel…" Enjoy An Album with Liam Withnail & Christopher Macarthur-Boyd

Postponed for years by Epic Records who thought that it lacked commercial appeal, early demos and bootlegs from Extraordinary Machine were eventually leaked forcing the label to “Free Fiona”. Originally produced by Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator Jon Brion and then later mastered by Mike Elizondo, Extraordinary Machine is a hard-nosed alt-pop record filled with odd percussion, biting lyrics and loungey venom. It's also #444 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, which means it's time for Liam Withnail and Christopher Macarthur-Boyd to Enjoy An Album. They talk about everything from Zach Galifinakis' lip-synching to Philip Seymour Hoffman's wonderful son, as well as managing to squeeze in Tattoo Woohoo/Tattoo Boohoo and Secret Posho. All that and more on this week's episode of Enjoy An Album. Enjoy!

Fiona Apple never quite belonged to a specific scene. The closest she came was at the dawn of her career when her debut album Tidal arrived as the alternative rock wave reached its crest in 1996. Upon its release in 1999, When the Pawn drew attention for its emotional intensity, unconventional arrangements, and eccentric flair, elements that were central to her appeal in the next decades when she worked steadily and rigorously. As her output slowed -- it took her six years to deliver her third album, Extraordinary Machine, and another seven for its sequel, The Idler Wheel, to appear -- her reputation as a daring artist grew. The Idler Wheel and its 2020 successor Fetch the Bolt Cutters confirmed Apple took aural risks without abandoning her strengths as a singer/songwriter, a combination that helped her maintain a devoted cult following.

He'll discuss interesting singles such as the ubiquitous "We Belong Together" from Mariah Carey, the eternal party anthem, "Pon de Replay" from Rihanna and one of the best album intros, "Extraordinary Machine" from Fiona Apple. The south definitely had something to say in 2005 with Jeezy's 'Thug Motivation 101' creating the foundation of the Atlanta trap sound that dominates hip hop today. Foo Fighters released their risky double album, 'In Your Honor' with one disc featuring 10 loud rock tunes and another featuring 10 acoustic tracks. 2005 also say the return of Quasimoto, Danger Doom and MF Doom team up and more! Do you have a body? I do, but I was mostly unaware of this fact until somewhere in my mid-30s, when my life strategy of living like a bourbon-loving brain-in-a-vat became increasingly untenable. Since then, I’ve come to understand something that might have been obvious to you all along. The body’s not just a convenient support system for coming up with clever things to say—it’s how we experience the world. It’s most of what we mean by living. And for all its marvelous autonomy, it’s also wonderfully, bafflingly complex. My guest today is the author Bill Bryson. In his new book THE BODY: A GUIDE FOR OCCUPANTS, he has been kind enough to demystify it for us to the extent that that’s possible, and to help us revel in its mystery everywhere else. Bill is the beloved author of A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING and A WALK IN THE WOODS, and I’m delighted to have him on the show.  Surprise conversation starters in this episode:  Excerpted from Think Again episode #215 with Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Christopher Wylie.  Learn more about your ad choices. Meet Jesal and Rochard. We are the Transatlantic Rebels. In Episode 30, we take a look at 3 pivotal albums by one of Rochard's favourite singers, Fiona Apple. Since Jesal is the relative newbie to Fiona, Rochard picked out "When the Pawn..." (1999), followed by "Extraordinary Machine" (2005), and finally "The Idler Wheel..." (2012). Jesal is from the UK, and Rochard is from America. We like to talk in depth about albums, films, TV shows and books. Rochard has a background in TV, acting, writing and many other areas of art creation. Jesal has a background in music: DJ, producer, artist, critic and other stuff. Enjoy!
