She completed training at New York Presbyterian Hospital's personality disorders unit where she provided individual and group Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and participated in case consultation with Otto Kernberg, M.D. She then provided Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and comprehensive DBT at Northwell Health's Behavioral Health College Partnership. Upon completing her training at Northwell Health, she recognized the need for trauma-focused training for her DBT clients who completed stage 1 DBT. At Rutgers University's college counseling program, she focused her training on evidence-based trauma treatments including Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).Dr. Kobernick has advanced training in DBT and specialized training in adaptations of DBT for adolescents and children. She has been supervised by Francheska Perepletchikova, PhD, developer of DBT for children (DBT-C), and is a trainer for DBT-C. While Dr. Kobernick enjoys practicing DBT, she is trained in other evidence-based modalities and is passionate about training and supervising other clinicians in her hopes to disseminate these modalities within the Orthodox Jewish community. She has also received specialized training in suicide prevention, evidence-based approaches in addiction treatment, CBT for insomnia, Motivational Interviewing, Psychological First Aid, Teaching and Supervising CBT from the Beck Institute, Behavioral Parent Management Training, Trauma Art Narrative Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT for children. She has co-led therapy groups on CBT for social anxiety and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for people with repeated episodes of depression.Dr. Kobernick's research interests include implementation and dissemination of evidence-based treatments within the Orthodox Jewish community, suicidality and nonsuicidal self-injury, and education and training in health service psychology. Dr. Taraman was the former Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology at Children's Health of Orange County and University of California-Irvine. He remains an active member of the medical staff and the Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence, Information, Investigation, & Innovation Institute at CHOC. He is a Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor at UC Irvine School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics and Affiliate Professor at Chapman University, Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering. Dr. Taraman is active in the community as the past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Orange County Chapter, board member of AAP-California, and committee member for the development of the AAP National CHILD health registry. He also serves on the Irvine Unified School District Medical Advisory Board, volunteers for the Capistrano Unified School District and with Girl Scouts of Orange County. Recognized globally as an innovator and specifically an advocate in the field of pediatrics, Dr. Taraman has been involved with the development of three FDA designated breakthrough devices, awardee of the prestigious National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation grant, and is an advisor to Board of Directors for the International Society for Pediatric Innovation. Dr. Alan Rozanski is Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Chief Academic Officer, Executive Director of Cardiac Education and Fellowship Training Programs, and Director of Nuclear Cardiology for the Department of Cardiology at Mount Sinai St. Lukes. A graduate of Yale University and the Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Rozanski completed his Internal Medicine and Cardiology Fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital and a fellowship in Nuclear Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. While at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Rozanski founded a large multi-disciplinary program in Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiology and initiated research which helped lead to the creation of a new field of Behavioral Cardiology. This led to a prestigious Sabbatical Fellowship from the MacArthur Foundation to study the determinants of health-promoting and health-damaging behaviors alongside many leading behavioral clinicians across the nation. In 1990, Dr. Rozanski joined the cardiology staff of St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital (now Mount Sinai St. Lukes and Mount Sinai West Hospitals) where he eventually served as Chief of Cardiology before assuming his current positions. Dr. Rozanski is noted for his unique clinical and academic focus and novel research that uniquely integrates the fields of Preventive Cardiology with Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. In addition, Dr. Rozanski is a leading expert in applying Cardiac Imaging for optimal Risk Assessment and Clinical Decision Making among patients who are candidates for cardiac testing due to risk factors or symptoms which are suggesting of heart disease. Dr. Rozanski is the co-author of over 270 peer-reviewed medical articles, book chapters and medical editorials, many of which are considered seminal contributions to the fields of Cardiology and/or Health Psychology.
Pessy J. Sloan is an Associate Professor in the College of Arts, Sciences and Education of Daemen University. Dr. Sloan earned her Ph.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University in 2000. She teaches graduate courses in both early childhood and childhood special education. Prior to joining Daemen University, Dr. Sloan held various teaching positions in the undergraduate and graduate education field. Rachel Offenbacher, MD is a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). She received her Medical Degree from SUNY Downstate after completing the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (a 7 year BS/MD program at CUNY). She completed her residency and fellowship at CHAM and is an Assistanr Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In addition to seeing patients clinically, she is a member of a translational sarcoma research lab where she is investigating difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) on Ewing sarcoma and osteosarcoma. Deena Levine Davidovics, MD grew up in Miami Beach Florida where she attended the RASG Hebrew Academy. After high school she spent a year in Israel studying at Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim and then attended a 6 year BA/MD program at Lehigh University and Drexel University College of Medicine. Deena went on to Pediatric Residency Training at UMDNJ, and completed fellowships in pediatric hematology oncology at Johns Hopkins, Bioethics at the NIH, and Hospice and Palliative medicine at UTHSC. She moved to Memphis with her family in 2012 to join the faculty at St Jude Children's Research Hospital as a pediatric palliative oncologist and ethicist. She practices clinical medicine and research and is currently the director of the division of Quality of Life and Palliative Care in the Department of Oncology at St Jude. Dr. Gutman is a board-certified pediatrician, and just finished a fellowship in adolescent medicine at Cohen Children's Medical Center. She will be an adolescent medicine attending at Columbia University Medical Center in August. Her clinical interests include eating disorders, pediatric gynecology and promoting healthy habits in teenagers. Her research focuses on the change in the quality and outcome of eating disorders on patients that presented during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Gutman served for 2 years as the co-chair of JOWMA's Teen Health Committee, and continues to stay active on the committee. Dr. Gutman originally earned her Bachelors of Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she majored in English literature. She completed post baccalaureate premedical program and went to medical school at Tel Aviv University. She then went to Jacobi Medical Center for a residency in pediatrics, where her research focused on sickle cell disease—back in those days, she believed she would specialize in pediatric hematology/oncology. In the middle of residency, Dr. Gutman realized that adolescent medicine was more enjoyable and rewarding than anything she'd experienced in residency so far. Rachel (Rochel Yenti) Bodek holds a degree in Teacher of the Visually Impaired from Hunter College. She is visually impaired herself and has some family members with the same eye condition. Rachel teaches blind and visually impaired students of all ages. She teaches various skills to her students including reading and writing with adapted methods, using assistive technology, self-advocacy, and coaching them to obtain other needed services and supports. She co-runs a support group, called Insight Beyond Eyesight, for Jewish families with visually impaired members providing information, support, and advocacy. She is also involved in other organizations servicing the blind and people with other disabilities like the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and she's a board member of TRIPS (her local paratransit service). Esther Markowitz has lived in Monsey, NY, for 50 years. She works at Cheder Chabad of Monsey as the office manager, a position she has held for 20 years. Esther is a proud mother and grandmother to many adorable grandchildren, each cherished individually. Additionally, she is the proud mother of her 21-year-old daughter, Hindy, who is blind. Dr. Emily Hoffman was born and raised in New York. She graduated from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 2017. She did her Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center from 2017-2020 and served as chief resident in 2021. Dr. Hoffman is passionate about medical education and was part of a medical education pathway in both medical school and residency. She completed her Infectious Disease fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2023 and joined the faculty at NYU as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In addition to caring for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, Dr. Hoffman also serves as “Content Lead”, a role that includes contributing to and supporting educational endeavors related to infectious disease and immunology at the UME and GME level. She lives on Long Island with her husband and two children. Dr. Ellie Carmody is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She obtained her MD at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Infectious Diseases fellowship at NYU School of Medicine. She has a clinical practice as an attending physician on the Infectious Diseases service at Bellevue Hospital and is an investigator at the NYU Langone Vaccine Center. Dr. Carmody has been a researcher with the Jewish Orthodox Women's Association (JOWMA), assessing effectiveness of health education programs and evaluating strategies to build confidence in vaccines and preventive health measures. Sunny Levi is one of ten female certified-seventh-degree black belts in the country. She has been training in Taekwondo for over 35 years and has been teaching and coaching children, teens, and adults for over 20. In addition to being a Taekwondo master and an elite athlete who was once on a path to the Olympics, Sunny is also a faith based life coach, a martial arts therapist for kids kicking cancer, a personal fitness trainer, and a yoga, and self-defense instructor. Lizzy Savetsky is a leading Jewish influencer and pro-Israel activist. Lizzy started her online journey over a decade ago as a fashion blogger, posting on her blog, Excessories Expert, and Instagram page. Gradually – Lizzy began to share more about her family life, Jewish faith and traditions, and educational content, including “Yiddish Word of the Week” and her daughter's weekly “Torah Corner.” In 2019, Lizzy changed her handle from ExcessoriesExpert to LizzySavetsky to focus more exclusively on Jewish and Israel content.
