The way we handle payments is crucial to the success of any E-commerce businesses. The payment solutions market is pretty fragmented, and sometimes we hear about potentially groundbreaking innovations like instant direct payments. But you've got a million things on your mind, so the 3% cost of processing isn't all that concerning. Except if you do $2M in sales, that's $60,000 to your payment processor. And what about the cost of any fraud you encounter? Typically, that's on you. So it's a serious topic, and to shed light on payments for E-commerce, we're joined by Marshall Greenwald, the founder of Ionia. With Marshall, we discuss:(00:00:42) Instant Funding and Fraud Protection: ionipay Revolutionizing Payment Processing(00:03:18) Streamlining Payment Processing for Merchants(00:08:36) AI Revolutionizing Payment Processing Efficiency and Security(00:13:06) Compatibility and Cost Analysis of Payment UpgradesThis episode of Deal Closers is hosted by Nate Lind, brought to you by WebsiteClosers.com, and is produced by Earfluence. Getting hit with a fraud when you're in charge can be devastating – even when you had absolutely nothing to do with it. What's more, management often feels that someone has to take a hit for what happened and they terminate or demote the manager who was in charge, figuring they should have had tighter controls and practice in place “to prevent this kind of thing” from happening. That's why we put together this quick run down of fraud protection practices everyone should be using. Make sure you stick around until the end when I discuss one strategy that few rely on and it's shame for in at least of the big frauds that occurred recently, it could have saved the day. #fraud #payments #scam Link to Accounts Payable Tips for Issues Everyone Ignores until Disaster Hits https://youtu.be/jU26nsuOVNA Looking for more of the most current business intelligence about + Best practices around your payment and accounts payable function + Current and new fraud protection protocols + The newest technology impacting your accounting, accounts payable, and payment functions + Career advancement +And much more!! Some scammers love the challenge of deceiving those they target while others are forced to scam. Those that thrive off of destroying others try to heighten your emotions very quickly. Both excited and angry responses can get you into making irrational decisions. Today's guest is Doug Shadel. Doug is a former fraud investigator and special assistant to the Attorney General at the Washington State Attorney General's office. He served as state director for AARP Washington and Strategy Director for AARP's national anti-fraud efforts. Doug has collaborated on numerous educational videos and academic studies and co-authored five books about fraud. He also co-authored the AARP Fraud Frontier 2021 Report. He is currently Managing Director of Fraud Prevention Strategies LLC, a Seattle-based consulting firm. Show Notes: [1:08] - Doug shares his background and career in fighting fraud. [2:43] - Robo-calls have been a long lasting problem that Doug has been working on with AARP and Nomorobo. [7:11] - Over the years, Doug has interviewed numerous scammers. They all say their primary goal is to get a victim in a heightened emotional state. [9:07] - Doug describes the research that shows when people are in a heightened emotional state, they are more likely to fall victim to a scam. [10:57] - Block the incoming robocalls to begin with to help avoid a scammer manipulating you into a heightened emotional state. [13:17] - It still is very dangerous to answer these phone calls because a lot of them are really persuasive and really good at what they do. [14:34] - There isn't a specific demographic profile. Doug explains what people who fall victim to a scam have in common. [16:49] - The FCC has come down hard on robocallers, but this has just caused scammers to be more careful and even more skilled. [18:09] - Have you recently received calls asking for a donation? Doug describes how these work. [21:12] - The number one red flag of a robocall is the threat of loss. [25:22] - Caller ID is not reliable. It is very common and easy for scammers to spoof a call. [27:48] - There are some legitimate needs for people to be able to spoof a call. [29:42] - Assume it is a scam if you did not initiate the contact. [33:08] - By and large, scammers will not cause violence on a victim, even if they threaten them. They follow the path of least resistance. [36:02] - Doug describes some software he uses to edit videos that incorporates AI. These tools are great, but are also used by scammers. [39:26] - Grandparent scams are really common. Doug describes what people have said after falling victim. [40:40] - There is an illusion of invulnerability. If you are convinced that you are not vulnerable to something, you won't do anything to prevent it. [43:04] - There's a lot more money for scammers to make in scamming an employee of a large company than individuals. [46:10] - The pandemic also had a big impact on the scamming industry. [50:50] - The AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline is 1-877-908-3360. [53:00] - Always report a scam when you know of one. It helps more than you know. Thanks for joining us on Easy Prey. PayPal has announced the launch of PayPal Complete Payments for small and medium enterprises in Ireland. The solution - which has been rolled out across the UK, Canada and more than 20 European markets - enables enterprises in Ireland to accept a range of payments including PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit and debit cards, and alternative payment methods from around the world. Forrester and PayPal research found that 63 per cent of online shoppers would not purchase from a brand if it had a poor checkout experience - with 43 per cent of customers likely to buy if the checkout offers their preferred payment type. Businesses across Ireland face a variety of challenges every day, from finding new customers and managing cashflow to driving sales.Expanding the choice of payment methods for shoppers can help turn potential customers into actual customers and help increase sales. A Censuswide survey of enterprises revealed that diverse payment options that cater to customer preferences (27%), fast and reliable processing to minimise transaction delays (26%) and dispute resolution services (25%) - are crucial factors that enablebusiness growth. "We're bringing our latest innovation to Ireland with PayPal Complete Payments, that enables small and medium-sized enterprises to offer their customers the same level of service and user experience as large enterprises," said Jonas Breding, General Manager, Northern Europe, PayPal. "With PayPal Complete Payments businesses are seeing on average 4.2 per cent lift in credit and debit card acceptance for neighbouring markets like the UK. This demonstrates we are delivering greater value for our customers by boosting customer conversions and helping drive revenue." PayPal has integrations with several ecommerce platforms - including BigCommerce and WooCommerce - which make it easier for their customers to quickly take advantage of this new solution. This new solution enables eligible enterprises to allow their customers to securely store their payment methods in the PayPal vault for future purchases. This provides a seamless shopping experience for consumers, and helps Irish enterprises drive conversions and repeat buyers. Businesses can sync order and tracking information with a new feature-Package Tracking. For businesses, sharing tracking data with PayPal can mean fewer customer disputes, and a streamlined resolution process that eliminates manual responses, which can reduce costs. Transactions with tracking details often see 80 per cent lower "item not received" dispute claims. To help keep small businesses secure in an environment where fraud is on the rise, PayPal Complete Payments will continue to offer Fraud Protection, Chargeback Protection and Seller Protection on eligible transactions. This solution is available at competitive rates for accepting credit cards and other payment methods online. Small businesses can now choose between flat-rate pricing and flexible pricing, which helps them get paid the full amount up-front and gives them a transparent view into processing costs. Are you aware of the newest ways crooks have found to exploit folks using Zelle? It boggles the mind. The innovative way criminals continue to exploit all sorts of payment mechanisms continues to astound me. Once again, I'm joined by Lynn Larson of Recharged Education, our go-to source for the latest Zelle scams. She's here with an update. Make sure you stick around until the end, when she shares tips on how you can protect yourself against this latest atrocity. So, without further ado, let's dive right in. As Zelle accounts become more popular, crooks looking to get their hands on your money are getting more innovative and creative. In this episode we discuss yet another innovation criminals are using to defraud ordinary citizens of their hard-earned money. They are doing this using Zelle. Zelle payments or payments made using the Zelle app are sometimes referred to as Instant Payments or Real Time payments. Although many sign up for Zelle through their bank, the bank does not have ultimate responsibility for these accounts. This has led to a lot of heartache and complaints when there was a fraud or scam perpetrated using a Zelle account. Don't let the Zelle dream turn into a Zelle nightmare, because you fell for one of the many Zelle scams. In this episode we review a number of ways crooks are scamming ordinary citizens who just happen to be Zelle users. This handy payment app makes it easy to transfer money from person to person simply by using an app on your phone. But without the proper care and controls, the app can become a nightmare. We take a look at some safety precautions every Zelle user should take to ensure they don't get Zelle scammed. Stick around until the end when we share an often-overlooked Zelle safety precaution. Accounts payable and accounting require the use of both accounts payable best practices and strong account payable internal controls. For the accounts payable process to work well, best practices for AP should be used.
