8 Tips to Improve Your Email Communication

In this episode, we dive into email communication. If writing emails feels daunting to you or if you’re trying to get a brand or person’s attention via email, this podcast episode is for you!Email Tip #1: State your purpose in your subject lineIf you’re a blogger or influencer trying to pitch a brand for a potential collaboration, state your purpose with a verb. Here are a few subject lines I’ve used in the past:· “Requesting a Brand Collaboration: Brand Name x Emma’s Edition”· “Instagram Collaboration Request: Brand Name x Emma’s Edition”Social media managers, marketing managers, and public relations agencies are running various campaigns at different times. You can help make their lives easier but stating why you’re reaching out in your subject line. Email Tip #2: Make your email readable Most people (including PR agencies and brands) skim their emails. Many people also read their emails on their phones. You have to make your email easy to read and easy to skim. Writing in long paragraphs doesn’t make your emails easy to read. Email Tip #3: Use bullet pointsBullet points are effective to sharing dates, options, and break down ideas. For example, if I’m trying to schedule a time to speak with a brand or PR agency, here’s what I would include in the email: “May you please let me know if this time/or date would work for a phone call?· Friday May 22nd at 2pm· Monday May 25th at 3:30pm· Tuesday May 26th at 4:00pm”Email Tip #4: Keep paragraphs shortIf you are using paragraphs in your emails, I’d recommend keeping those paragraphs 3-5 sentences. It helps to envision what 3-5 paragraphs looks like on your phone. If you send yourself a draft of the email, you’ll be able to see how long it looks on your phone. We share 4 more tips to help you with emails!Follow Emma on Instagram: @emmasedition | Pinterest: @emmaseditionFollow Maddy on Instagram: @madcrayy | Pinterest: @madcrayyFollow the Content Creatives Podcast: @contentcreativespodcastJoin the Content Creatives Podcast Facebook Group!

This week Jurek and Earl grab their Diskarmors and head off to save the world as they play Rygar on the NES! This is one of those rare games that neither of the guys have ever played before! It is a very early metroid-vania type game and actually turns out to be pretty fun! The music is somewhat lacking, but it controls well. The game's difficulty is a little high, but that is to be expected from games of this era. Despite the difficulty, the game feels do-able. Come have a drink with us! Cheers! NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday May 22, 2020. This was a few days before the events of Memorial Day, so we obviously do not talk about them in this episode. As stated in the notes for episode 206, we will discuss those events in a future show. Keep protesting! It's working! Thanks for listening, Revelers! No Justice, No Peace. #BlackLivesMatter. ~Earl

This week Earl and Jurek grab their virtual rackets and play two tennis games for the SNES! First up is Super Tennis! This game turns out to be pretty fun, but a little lackluster. It's a perfectly fine tennis game, but you might not get much out of it in today's day and age. The guys then try out Smash Tennis, AKA Super Family Tennis! Now this is a tennis game! It plays very similarly to Super Tennis, but features far superior music and has many more unique court styles to play on! Come have a drink with us! Cheers! NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday May 15, 2020. Oh, how so much has happened since then. Long time Revelers will know that both Jurek and I call Minneapolis our home. On Memorial Day, the murder of George Floyd by 4 members of the Minneapolis Police Department, sparked an incredible movement for police reform. Lots of rioting and looting took place in our city because the people have had enough. We've been through some scary times and both Jurek and I are safe, but that is not important right now. We encourage you to get out and protest, but please stay safe. We will discuss the events of the past week on a future show. Thanks for listening, Revelers, and once again, please stay safe. No Justice, No peace. #BlackLivesMatter ~Earl

This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Friday May 22nd, 2020. The U.S. recorded over 25,000 new cases yesterday and 1,314 deaths. 6 states show a rise in cases over the last two weeks, including one that seemed relatively safe earlier in the outbreak. Maine reported their highest two-day total since the outbreak began. They have 1,877 confirmed cases, 136 of those were reported in the last two days. The state has been fairly aggressive with restrictions. The statewide stay at home order is in effect until June 1st, though some personal care business were allowed to reopen on May 1st. A 14-day quarantine for anyone entering the state remains in effect through August. So why the jump? According to the Maine government website, the state increased testing on May 18th. Allowing health care providers to test anyone they suspected of having the virus. A grant from the CDC will expand testing across the state over the next few weeks, so the numbers may continue to rise as more Maine residents get tested. The CDC revised guidance on how the virus spreads, noting that touching contaminated objects or surfaces is not a significant mode of transmission. Primary spread is from person to person. The CDC has updated their modeling and is estimating that about 35% of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic. President Trump echoed Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, stating he thinks there will be an additional stimulus package. Flags will be flown at half-staff for the next three days to honor victims of COVID-19. Yosemite National Park hopes to reopen in June. Reservations will be required. Latin America is witnessing a dramatic increase in cases, outpacing the US and Europe for 3 days in a row. Italy’s social security institute said their COVID-19 related death toll may be 60% higher than reported according to The Washington Post. Australia has extended their ban on international cruise ships in Australian waters through September 17th. The locations of hotspots and U.S and Country diagnoses in a moment. A Heartwarmingly wholesome tale of a boy and his....zombie?? FIDO, directed by ANDREW CURRIE, takes to a picture perfect pop art white picket fence and apple pie post-zombie apocalypse 1950's style world where the undead serve as harmless domestic servants, nannies and Mother's Little Helpers. When little Timmy's family adopt Fido to be their house ghoul, hearty laughs and wholesome good times are sure to follow...as well as total societal upheaval and just a teeny tiny zombie uprising or two. BUt there's a lot more to FIDO than first meets the eye. A word from Katarina: I am beyond excited to share this interview with you all. I recorded this about a year ago in a rooftop apartment in Merida, Mexico. I had taken a trip to visit my friend and spend some time regrouping and recharging myself. A serendipitous series of events led my friend, and then me, to meet Amanda Strickland, a first time director following her dream of creating a documentary. There is nothing more energizing for me than being surrounded by independent, inspiring women, who are taking on their dreams and making things happen in the world. Amanda is one of those women for sure. The story she tells through the lens of this documentary gives voice to a community that is often underrepresented, and empowers a woman who has been hard at work as a midwife for 60 years. This conversation with Amanda, or Mandi as I know her, is a behind the scenes look at Jats'uts Meyah, a documentary that premiered this past week and can now be found on Vimeo! Before the final edits were made, and before she knew how this documentary would make its debut, Mandi talked to me about why she wanted to be director, how she came to create this film, and why it is such an important story that the world needs to see. It is an honor for me to share this conversation with you all today, Friday May 22nd, on Mandi's birthday! Thank you as always for helping us #starttheconversation . Episode produced by: Katarina Hoskins and Alan Lytle Jats'uts Meyah is directed and produced by: Amanda Strickland Song in this episode: "El Sentidos" written by Felissa Estrada, produced by Jimmy Cruz and FT Music Studio To learn more about the documentary follow @meyah_documentary on Instagram and watch it on Vimeo on demand anytime!

Friday May 22nd is the International Day for Biological Diversity. Actually this whole year was meant to be about that. The World Economic Forum named 2020 the Year for Nature Action. It was to culminate in a big conference about the UN convention on biological diversity in Kunming, China in October. But the coronavirus pause doesn’t mean we get to hold off on action to protect Nature. This week’s guest is Helen Crowley, Kering's head of sustainable sourcing and innovation, where she works with brands like Gucci , Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. She lives in France, but she’s an Aussie with a PhD in zoology. And this year, she’s on sabbatical with Conservation International, and is an advisor to the World Economic Forum. What is the New Nature Agenda? How can fashion take action to not just protect biodiversity, but help regenerate it? We cover all this and more in this episode. Love the show? We’ll be talking with him about working with Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart and Vanilla Fudge coming up soon. In case you haven’t figured it out, and you’re not up on your drummers, it’s the great Carmine Appice. But in this episode I’ll throw in a plug in for my Friday May 15th Pawn Shop Boulevard EP release. I’ve played little Whitman samplers of some of the songs and the consensus is I sound like Bob Dylan. Like Bob when he started to go electric and pissed everyone off. I admit I’ve been a little defiant through the years. No animals were harmed. So let’s talk Bob for a minute. Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, author, and visual artist who has been a major figure in counterculture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterculture_of_the_1960s) . Commenting on the six-minute single " Like a Rolling Stone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Rolling_Stone) " (1965), Rolling Stone wrote: "No other pop song has so thoroughly challenged and transformed the commercial laws and artistic conventions of its time, for all time." Some say when the Bryds covered Mr. Tambourine Man in 1965, another Dylan song, that’s when acoustic folk met electric and gave birth to folk rock. The jury is out on that but that’s probably the best description of how it came about. So here goes, a Bob Dylan song. I chose one of his iconic ones, Like a Rolling Stone. It was originally recorded in 1965 and featured a whole bunch of studio musicians including Al Kooper. Kooper, now 76, was actually a 21-year-old studio guitar player at the time. He later went on to organize Blood Sweat and Tears, played French horn on You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones and played sessions with everyone and their dog including Mike Bloomfield, Stephen Stills and the list is more insanely long than we have time for.  Oh and he was also manager and producer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Here's what he had to say about the Like a Rolling Stone session.  So, the B-3 organ lick he played, well I play it on a 12-string Rickenbacker. This is a fun song to sing. I do my Dylan parody but I can’t hear the song any other way.  I heard the song for years before I really listened to the lyrics. He’s talking to a debutante wannabe that’s gone from riches to rags.  “You've gone to the finest schools, alright Miss Lonely But you know you only used to get juiced in it Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street And now you're gonna have to get used to it” She’s broke and she ain’t diggin’ it. So, my apologies to Bob Dylan purests. I’m thinking about releasing it as a single and maybe Mr. Dylan will hear it and have a laugh.
