In this video, we explore the grimdark roots of Battletech's history, beginning with Cold War geopolitics, the collapse of the USSR, the Outer Reaches Rebellion, and the foundation of the Great Houses that would shape centuries of interstellar conflict.Discover how the Terran Hegemony, the Cameron dynasty, and pivotal events like the Outer Reaches Rebellion, the development of the first BattleMech (the Mackie), and the political machinations of Stefan Amaris and Aleksandr Kerensky set the stage for the Battletech universe. We are doing something a little different with today's episode, and I hope you dig it. I am going to take you on a little walking tour of a favorite location in the Village on Nothing Much. What? How will that work? Yeah, I don't know either. We're going to figure it out together because, yes, the Village of Nothing Much is an imaginary place, a world I built story by story through my bedtime story podcast Nothing Much Happens, but why should that stop us? So you might want to listen to this while you are walking, just stretch your imagination a bit. In episode 22, we review Dune: Imperium and Dune: Imperium - Uprising by DireWolfDigital and discuss our first, second, and third impressions of the game. To start off the episode, we chat about the games that are bringing us joy: SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, Castle Combo, Cities, and nana: Christmas Edition. Vying for dominance of Arrakis, the leaders of the Great Houses of the Landsraad manipulate resources and their political influence to control the spice to control the universe. Through worker placement and deck building, each leader sends Agents across Dune to gather water, solari, and spice while crafting alliances with the four major Factions, sending units to the Conflict, and gaining persuasion. Beware of spies helping your rivals, disruptions in plans from intrigue cards, and sandworms joining the Conflict; don't start celebrating your win too soon. We love Dune, and, surprisingly, we all come to the same conclusion on which game comes out ahead. The spice must flow, and this podcast [usually] does too. Find us on Instagram @boardgamehomies

This lecture discusses the science fiction and fantasy author, Ursula K. Leguin's book, Tales From Earthsea, the fifth of six Earthsea books It focuses specifically on the story "Dragonfly", and focuses specifically on the two crises at Roke Isle depicted and partly resolved in the story. The first and immediate crisis is what to do with Irian, who has been admitted to the Great House by the Master Doorkeeper, against the rule of Roke, which forbids women to study there. The second is a longer-brewing crisis, stemming from the absence of an archmage, the king Lebannen having crowned himself, dragons coming eastward, and the Master Summoner Thorion attempting to take power over Roke To support my ongoing work, go to my Patreon site - www.patreon.com/sadler If you'd like to make a direct contribution, you can do so here - www.paypal.me/ReasonIO You can find over 3,000 philosophy videos in my main YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/gbisadler Purchase Tales From Earthsea - https://amzn.to/46O2nwS

Thank you very much to Dan for commissioning this episode! These chapters are the ones in which Scorio manages to beat the folks he needs to beat in the tournament in order to get noticed by a Great House, but it comes at a cost. A cost he seems to be in denial about, to an extent. Then he has a very interesting wager with Jova Spike. Thanks so much for listening! Wanna talk spoilers? What is life like on an Imperium World? To answer this question we focus on the storied world of Necromunda. We take a look at the planet as a whole before concentrating on the “capital” of the Palatine Hive. We look at the social hierarchy and the lives of the planet's rulering power, House Helmwar. We then descend through the hive exploring the lives of the citizens be they from the Great Houses, Clan Houses or the ever-present Mercator guilds. At each level of society we discuss the responsibilities expected (imposed) on them and how the society provides for them. We close out with a list of threats and dangers that arise from such a society and how that is multiplied across the stagnant Imperium of man. Support Us Buy from Element Games. Want more content? The News You Missed 5-26-2023 …It's a great house, but what's that smell?
Welcome to another exciting episode with your trusted hosts, Isyander and Koda! In this jam-packed installment, we're diving deep into the expansive universe of Dune, guiding you through the intricate tapestry of Frank Herbert's seminal masterpiece and the prequel and sequel novels penned by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. From the genesis of the Machine Crusade in 'The Butlerian Jihad' (2002) to the turning point 'The Battle of Corrin' (2004), we take a look at how humanity won its freedom from thinking machines. We unravel the origins of some of Dune's most powerful institutions, exploring the formation of the Bene Gesserit in 'Sisterhood of Dune' (2011), the rise of the Mentats in 'Mentats of Dune' (2014), and the creation of the Navigators in 'Navigators of Dune' (2016).Then we journey back to the famed noble houses in the House Trilogy: 'House Atreides' (1999), 'House Harkonnen' (2000), and 'House Corrino' (2001). We retrace the steps of Duke Leto Atreides and his rise to power in 'The Duke of Caladan' (2020) and the subsequent books 'The Lady of Caladan' (2021) and 'The Heir of Caladan' (2022).Finally, we arrive at the book that started it all, the legendary 'Dune' (1965), before transitioning into 'Paul of Dune' (2008), where we discuss how Paul Atreides dealt with his newfound power after his triumphant uprising. As if our Dune extravaganza wasn't enough, we're taking a quirky detour to lighten the mood. Get ready for some tongue-in-cheek fun as we challenge ourselves (and you, our dear listeners) with the mind-boggling length of Prince Philip's full title! With so many grand and majestic words, it's a title that would give even the longest of Dune's Bene Gesserit honorifics a run for their money. Then, we move on to yet another figure renowned for his extended list of titles – Idi Amin. The self-proclaimed 'Uncrowned King of Scotland' had a title so long it's dizzying!
