This week on BEHIND THE LENS it's all about horror as we take a look at two distinctly different types of horror films and three talented filmmakers. One film, ROSARIO, is dark and twisted and steeped in ancient lore and curses and comes from FELIPE VARGAS. The other, A BREED APART, courtesy of THE FURST BROTHERS, NATHAN FURST and GRIFF FURST, has a lighter comedic bent that may have you rethinking getting yourself a cute, cuddly puppy, but is a horror film horror nevertheless, and with a bit of action thrown in. First up, NATHAN FURST and GRIFF FURST, aka THE FURST BROTHERS, co-writers, co-directors, and co-editors of A BREED APART. A BREED APART is the tale of a group of social media influencers who find themselves on a private island owned by the famous Vince Ventura. Expecting a weekend of unrivaled viral opportunity, it doesn't take long before our five "contestants" find themselves as part of their own horrific reality show when the guests are pitted against each other to capture the island's legendary man-eating dogs before they become victims of the monstrous canines. Succeed and win $1 million and the island itself. Plus, you're doing wonders for pet adoption! Then we switch gears and go deep and dark with director FELIPE VARGAS talking about ROSARIO. Directed by Felipe and written by Alan Trezza, ROSARIO is the story of a Wall Street stockbroker, Rosario Fuentes, who returns to her grandmother's apartment after her sudden death. While sorting through her Grandmother's belongings, Rosario uncovers a horrifying secret—a hidden chamber filled with occult artifacts tied to dark generational rituals. As supernatural occurrences plague her, Rosario must confront her family's buried secrets and face the truth about the sacrifices and choices they made. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich present their Lake Placid Movie Series 1999 2012 Review. Lake Placid is a series of American monster horror comedy films created by David E. Kelley. Produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the series began with Lake Placid (1999) directed by Steve Miner, and was followed by five television sequels, Lake Placid 2 (2007) by David Flores, Lake Placid 3 (2010) by Griff Furst, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter (2012) by Don Michael Paul, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015) by A.B. Stone, being a crossover with the Anaconda series, and Lake Placid: Legacy (2018) by Darrell Roodt. Each installment revolves around the presence of giant, 30-foot-long man-eating crocodiles in the fictional location of Black Lake, Maine, and the efforts of various groups to capture or destroy the creatures. All of the films (except for Legacy) reference members of the fictitious Bickerman family.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

This week we are discussing 2018's Leprechaun Returns. It's our 1st Leprechaun sequel and Jamie's first one. This movie had us talking about the main girl being a possible love child of Tori and Ozzie from the original, the rules of Leprechaun gaining his powers, the lack of emotion when people die, the lack of freaking out when meeting a real life leprechaun, and lots more. Watch the unedited review at sequelsonly.com/LepReturns The next sequel discussed is "Terminator Genisys", which is has a pretty solid cast and it's film I have never seen which is always fun. For it, I talked with Griff Furst who plays Agent Burke, but when Griff isn't acting, he's directing, producing, and writing. Griff has directed a lot of sci fi movies like Lake Placid 3 and Swamp Shark. He has a great story about DB Sweeney and Wade Boggs you are gonna love. On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are doing our best to stay out of the rain, bathtubs, pools, fountains, and indoor plumbing. We're talking about the 2013 film from Griff Furst, Ghost Shark. It may surprise some of you to learn that sharks are a lot more talented/fearsome than you might have first known. That's not to say that they're inherently terrifying and evil; most of the time they'll leave you alone. But Jaws wasn't just the thrilling summer blockbuster we all love today. Indeed, it was a dire foreshadowing of the underwater terrors to be discovered.Suffice it to say, mysticism and sharks makes for a terrifying combination. What do you do when all water is off limits? What do you do when taking a quenching sip of delicious and previously innocent water puts your life in danger? These are the hard-hitting questions that a B-movie of this caliber is asking, and we praise it for that. No other film has the daring to stand up and do what this film has done. Lo Graham, a Lafayette native making her mark in the film and television industry, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss her starring role in Unhuman, a Blumhouse Productions horror movie, premiering digitally on June 3, 2022. You can rent the movie anywhere you get your streaming services. Unhuman follows a group of high school students whose school bus crashes on a field trip. The press release states, "Relationships are tested once they realize they are being stalked by an attacker who intends to drive them out and straight into a horrifying fight to survive." The movie was filmed in New Orleans in the heat of the summer last year. While most of the actors were from LA, the majority of the crew supporting the movie were talented professionals from the New Orleans area. As part of an ensemble cast of young actors, Lo comes face to face with evil in this roller-coaster romp. Lo says "It's like the Breakfast Club meets the Walking Dead," with the typical stereotypes found in horror movies, and she plays the mean, popular girl. "Lots of comedy and action. It was so much fun making this teen movie with a twist of horror that Blumhouse does best." While Lo has found a niche as a “scream queen” character since her earliest role in Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, she embraces her love of acting and is ready to branch out into a wider variety of roles. Lo Graham has also made her mark on television with roles in CBS's NCIS: New Orleans, Fox's Scream Queens, a recurring role on Fox's primetime series Filthy Rich, and in the Columbia Pictures film, This Is The End. She has worked with stars such as Kim Cattrall, Juliette Lewis, and Seth Rogan. Lo Graham with Juliette Lewis(left) and Kim Cattrall (right) of the Fox Series Filthy Rich. Lo is a graduate of Lafayette's Ascension Episcopal School and LSU's Manship School of Mass Communications in Broadcast Journalism. She first began modeling and pursuing acting roles through Images Model & Talent Agency as a young teen and fell in love with it. She recounted that her first speaking roles came about in Sci-Fi movies while filming in Lafayette with Ken Badish's Active Entertainment who helped her get her start in the industry. Louisiana is a great draw for filmmakers. Lo has been fortunate to be able to balance her work between Los Angeles and Louisiana. Louisiana lures many productions due to our generous film industry tax credits. "People love to film horror sci-fi in Louisiana because of the landscape here. In New Orleans and surrounding areas, we have so many spooky, historical elements." As an example, right before we filmed this interview, Curmudgeon Films, led by Griff Furst, filmed a Morgan Freeman movie entitled 57 Seconds here in Lafayette. Acting coaches have taught Lo to get in tune with the "child-like" version of herself with an active imagination. This is a critical skill in today's modern film industry which operates virtually until filming begins. "Whenever I'm acting, I've learned to put myself aside and play. Be that character and think like that character. Especially in auditions. Today, auditions are all self-taped and happen at your house. People used to go into an office to audition for a casting director. Now people tape themselves with a reader off-camera giving you their lines; you record yourself and send it off." While she was auditioning for Unhuman, Lo said she had to imagine the plot of the whole movie as she was initially taping her audition so that she could get in character to scream realistically. While the initial phase of earning parts has changed, the industry is so virtual today that actors can live literally anywhere and just send in audition tapes for a role. This has made the industry more inclusive for a wider range of actors. "It's so important to take care of yourself while filming given the crazy hours. When I would get home from filming,
All musicians want to be actors and all actors want to be musicians. That's how you get David Bowie in the Labyrinth and the Bacon Brothers. To be fair, everyone wants to be in the movie business. Over the last couple of decades, changes in technology and tax incentive programs by state and local governments have made that somewhat easier for folks to do, without necessarily moving to Los Angeles full time. Wherever you do it, it's not going to be easy though. And it can be lonesome too, if you're embarking on a passion project. Brennan Robideaux has spent years pouring his time and life savings into one project: a documentary about pole vaulting Armand Duplantis, said to be perhaps the best to ever to do it and who grew up here in Lafayette. The movie is called Born to Fly and Brennan tracked Duplantis before he won gold and set records in the 2020 Olympic games, following him around the world to document his rise in a candid feature built on 700 hours of footage. Brennan grew up in Lafayette and opened a production company — Robideaux Creative — in 2018 to take on commercial work and other projects. Brennan's name might sound familiar to you because of his dad: former legislator and Lafayette mayor Joel Robideaux. Film maker Griff Furst credits the former mayor's cultural economy program with helping his company Curmudgeon Filmsmake a home here in Lafayette. Griff grew up in Van Nuys, California and in the entertainment industry, tagging along with his dad, actor Stephen Furst (a successful film producer though best known for his early work as an actor as "Flounder" in National Lampoon's Animal House), onto sets from a young age. Today, Griff makes movies both behind and in front of the camera. Griff has acting credits in films like the Magnificent 7 and Terminator Genysis and has directed several sci-fi thrillers under the Curmudgeon umbrella — movies as diverse as Ghost Shark and Cold Moon. Louisiana's production tax credit first brought Griff to Lafayette in 2008. He met his wife, a Lafayette native. They now split time between Lafayette, New Orleans and L.A. And he continues to run productions both in Louisiana and around the country. Conditions compelled us to record this edition of Out to Lunch Acadiana on Zoom. Next week we hope to be back at our regular lunch spot, Tula Tacos on Jefferson Street in Downtown Lafayette. Photos by Astor Morgan at our website, itsacadiana.com. And here's another interesting lunch table conversation about the Acadiana entertainment industry, specifically how the live music biz had to adapt to living with a pandemic. Matt has a new favorite horror film of 2018 and he's gonna be talking about it ALOT so get your ass prepared for YOU MIGHT BE THE KILLER by listening to his interview with the director Brett Simmons, writer/producer Thomas P Vitale and producer Griff Furst
Ahoy, Citizens! Unfortunately, we did not watch a film this week here at SCC, but we did do something that we should've done a long time ago… If you've been a listener for any length of time, you probably know that we always ask every one of our first-time guests the same question: “What is your relationship with B movies?” We've asked dozens of people this question over the past two(ish) years, trying to learn about what ignites and ultimately drives the passion for this type of cinema. But recently we realized that as hosts, we've never really answered that question for ourselves. So for the first half of this episode we do exactly that- we all share our earliest B movie memories, discuss what we think makes a flick great, and talk about some of our favorites. Interview time! Tom recently had the opportunity to speak with actor/director/filmmaker, Griff Furst, about his relationship with B movies, which we will share with you guys in the second half of this episode (somewhere around 30 minutes in, if you wish to skip our self-indulgent blathering). Griff has a pretty impressive resume- from his role in the Cinemax show, Banshee, to the upcoming The Magnificent Seven remake- but what we really wanted to hear about was all the work he's done in the B movie world. Griff talks with us about his work with The Asylum production company, making mockbuster films, and about his new horror film, Cold Moon. Enjoy!
