This week's crop of actor-musician hyphenates got their thespian starts in films of the 1980s: Corey Feldman, Keanu Reeves (Dogstar), Kevin Bacon (the Bacon Brothers), and Kiefer Sutherland. Copyright-compliant Gin Blossoms tracks and workout-cooldown music prompted thoughts about perfectly good outdoor-restaurant entertainment, the artistic practice that capitalism tries to stifle, and whether pretty boys want to be told they're smart (and vice versa). Strange things are afoot at the Circle MASTAS, so grab one of Kiefer's hats and have a listen. Intro and outro by Andrew Byrne; special thanks to Amanda. The madness comes in for a landing with this, the tenth episode of Regarding Roger. Masters of Digression Chaz and Wolfie go all out in this drain-bamaged diversionary listen-through of the epic classic rock radio track Eclipse, the last track on Dark Side of the Moon. Redux follows suit, and thus we conclude the heavy lifting of season two, listening to Dark Side of The Moon Redux for the listener, so the listener doesn't have to. Join our hosts as they meander through Spotify rankings of Pink Floyd versus so many other artists we forget how many are covered. Chaz raves on and on about Live From Daryl's House, the internet show of Daryl Hall, and convinces Wolfie to get hooked in with Daryl and his friends like Smokey Robinson, Sammy Hagar, Allen Stone, Fitz and the Tantrums, Tommy Shaw, Rick Nielson, Kenny Loggins, CeeLo Greene, Darius Rucker, Train, Rob Thomas, Joe Walsh, Howard Jones, Chromeo, KT Tunstall, Ben Folds, Grace Potter, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Toots and the Maytals, Nick Lowe, the Bacon Brothers…and so many more. Wax nostalgic with Chaz about having Kyra Sedgwick walk across his blanket at a Bacon Brothers concert. Ah, the memories. And yes, we get back to listening to the redux version of Eclipse. We wrap up this listen season with comparisons to season one, what Lulu had going for it that Dark Side of the Moon Redux did not. If there had been more coverage, better press, more content, and greater context shared by the artist would it have been better received? If Roger hadn't tried to sing, if he hadn't added poetry and voiceovers, would it still be something you can listen to? The main question persists…why Roger, why? When the hosts start pining for the improvisational stylings of Metallica and Lou Reed, you know it's about time to wrap it up. Rather, the guys draw it out, going further out on a Rocket to Uranus than they ever have before. New heights in digressionary diversion and pointless nonsense, this episode really captures the essence of our final adjudication of Dark Side of the Moon Redux. Hearing Eclipse delivered with a James Hetfield staccato is worth the price of admission alone. We wrap it up with a bow – here's the message: life ain't all dark. That's the big epiphany of this album – that and we've determined that the answer to life, the universe and everything really is 42. Thanks, Roger, here's your towel. Now…what would Daryl do? Roger – listen to Daryl, he is the king of Redux. Find out for yourself – tune in at Live From Daryl's House.

Cindy Alexander is brilliant and multifaceted, like a prism in sunlight. She's a songwriter, a singer, a storyteller. She's a mother of twins and a daughter of mother nature. Fans of her music know she's beautifully messy and heaven-sent. This award-winning singer-songwriter has a cult following and an independent streak. Affectionately called “Pnut” by her fans, Alexander has a voice that defies her petite stature. In one moment, she hits rich and earthy lows; in the next, she adds the trill of a coloratura soprano. But technical prowess is hardly the headline: Alexander shares her entire being through music. “In art, we have to be vulnerable. Art is an open heart and a naked soul,” she attests. Fans recognize Alexander's charismatic vulnerability from the stage. She forges powerful connections, reminding audiences that it's okay to laugh, cry, or even embrace irreverent humor in the midst of a breakdown. Over time she earned an illustrious reputation as an entertainer, winning over audiences and reviewers alike across multiple continents. Alexander is also a fearless lyricist. Her songwriting traverses personal narrative while plucking at universal human themes. She interrogates spirituality, sexuality, history, and the human condition. From her breast cancer recovery journey to the loss of her mother to dementia, her lyrics lay it bare. “I can't pretend that everything's okay, because it's not,” Alexander says. “But, I always see the light. My journey to find the light is almost always through music.” This Los Angeles native was born with a song on her lips and a story in her heart. Alexander's grandmother was a music teacher who encouraged her singing from an early age. Later, she was discovered and mentored by the leader of a children's choir, who also happened to be “voice coach the stars,” Cantor Nathan Lam. Later, Alexander received further training at the acclaimed USC School of Drama. But before long, Shakespeare's sentiment that “all the world's a stage” had lured her away from the theater — she realized the best part she could play was herself. For many years, Alexander toured as an independent artist across the US, Asia, and Europe, and even the far-flung islands of Barbados and Guantanamo Bay. Alexander's adventure always followed the fans, and her blossoming global community returned the love by crowdfunding her creative endeavors. Alexander has had the good fortune to work with a legion of talented musicians and producers throughout her career. She's laid tracks with Grammy Award-winning engineer Ross Hogarth and co-written songs with Grammy Award–Winning songwriters Dennis Matkosky and Gary Harrison, as well as noted producer Dave Darling. Her most significant long-time collaborators are The Bacon Brothers (Michael and Kevin Bacon). “The reason I created my first CD was that I was asked to go on tour with the Bacon Brothers after opening their show at The Troubadour. At the time, I didn't have anything to sell! Dave Darling took my scrappy demos and produced my first record, which actually sold out on that tour and blew up on Amazon,” Alexander shared. Kevin and Michael Bacon remain dear friends and touring companions. Despite her star-studded Rolodex, Alexander stayed away from big-name labels to preserve her artistic independence. more: getthefunkoutshow.kuci.org

This episode's guests are the duo ensemble The Bacon Brothers — younger brother and veteran actor Kevin and his older sibling Michael, an award-winning composer. Since his breakout roles in the early 1980s, including a starring turn in “Footloose,” Kevin has been a star on the big and small screens. And Michael, a music professor at Lehman College, has enjoyed a long and celebrated career as an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist and cellist. Over the years, Michael has composed hundreds of film and TV soundtracks and scores. And since the late 1990s, they've performed together as The Bacon Brothers. In this conversation with host Ken Womack, the brothers talk about how the Beatles brought the electric guitar into their lives, keys to great songwriting, what they thought about the “Get Back” docuseries, George Martin's influence on the Beatles, and the finer points of “Revolver.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/everythingfabfour/support

Today, "Naked Lunch" is thrilled to be serving up a very special order of Bacon -- Kevin Bacon, that is. Kevin discusses his famously long and impressive career as an actor, from early classics like "Animal House" and "Diner" (with Kevin's friend and previous "Naked Lunch" guest Paul Reiser) to major hits like "Footloose" and "JFK" to current projects like "City On A Hill," "They/Them" and "Leave the World Behind." Kevin gives great insight into his family life and his lifelong love of music -- including how he and his brother Michael have kept The Bacon Brothers on the road making music while still talking to one another. And Phil & David work through their strong feelings about their individual Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon scores with the man himself. Also this and way more than a side of Bacon. Amy Wright chats with brothers Michael and Kevin Bacon, aka The Bacon Brothers, all about their brand-new five-song EP, Erato. As multi-faceted artists with a ton of creativity in their DNA, Michael and Kevin have been actively creating music together, well, since they were just kids. They call the genre-bending sound they make “Forosoco” - a blend of folk, rock, soul, and country influences. And that makes sense, considering it's the continuation of sounds heard long ago in Philadelphia, where the two siblings were raised on a soundtrack of 1970s singer/songwriters, Philly soul singers, and classic rock bands."We're a songwriting band, and the songs lead the way," Kevin explains. "We're not beholden to a specific sound. We just write the songs and let them point us in the right direction. That's how we've done it since the very beginning."Part of Pantheon Podcasts

Michael and Kevin Bacon, the Bacon Brothers, each have their own individual success stories -Kevin with acting and Michael with music - each worthy of their own podcast episode. Together, however, the siblings are as connected musically as The Cowsills... both boys having the passion and talent to spend over 25 years recording, writing, and performing songs they create and performing in concerts all over the world while at the same time maintaining their own viable careers. They are the real deal and sound it. We had a great visit with these musical brothers and look forward to the July 8th release of their 5-song EP, "Erato". Wait'll you hear this piece of work. It's stellar!

Cindy Alexander is no stranger to overcoming the odds: A cancer survivor, mother of twin girls, and a successful touring independent artist for 15 years prior to signing with Blue Élan Records. Writing a record while her mother was dying from dementia, recording while navigating a world of pandemic and protests, and trying to finish anything while teaching her kids from home during a “Safer at Home” order were just a few more elements to add to her already colorful story of personal perseverance. Cindy tells it like it is – the Truth with a capital “T.” As Cindy says, “I can't pretend that everything's ok, because it's not. But, I always see the light – in you, in me, in the world that was created from it. My journey in this body is about finding it, sharing it, becoming it. It's a struggle. It's painful. It's delightful. It's ecstatic.” While the Angels Sigh is at once a musical affirmation of personal power and grace and an acceptance of human weakness and fallibility. Cindy Alexander has written a songbook for the sandwich generation, with wisdom for millennials, and gratitude to the generations that came before her.It took two years to curate the song list with executive producer and label co-founder, Kirk Pasich. “It was two years of me digging deep, during a dark time, to believe in myself and my musical mission, even if others did not,” Cindy explains. “I committed to sharing my truth and my passion, to work with people who could help me manifest my vision, and seized the opportunity to create without being edited, censored, or silenced. I am so very blessed that Blue Élan Records gave me that opportunity.”By late 2019, Cindy Alexander sat in Sage & Sound Studio with a dream team of musicians, led by producer/bass player Sean Hurley and producer/drummer Victor Indrizzo. The first song they tackled was “Try Try Try,” a co-write with Cindy's career-long collaborator, Grammy award-nominated producer, and songwriter, David Darling. The song is about trying to connect and reignite the passion when life gets in the way and distracts us from what really matters. While writing the song, a distracted Cindy had fallen and broken her elbow and wrist while running to make a meeting (“at least I feel alive…bleeding from a break”). It was Kirk's idea to record a second “live” version of the song (all players in one room in one take) as an acoustic ballad, turning a sexy bar burner into a trippy, hypnotic siren song.“Room at the Bottom,” a tongue in cheek ode to the down and out musician, as well as an answer to Tom Petty's “Room at the Top,” was built around a signature guitar lick by David Levita (Alanis Morissette, Lana Del Rey, Sheryl Crow) and a scrappy, beat-up piano part by Michael Farrell (Alanis Morissette, Macy Gray), achieved by placing three No.2 pencils on the piano strings to create the distortion.“Broken but Beloved,” a song about impermanence, was recorded with Grammy award-winning producer and engineer Ross Hogarth at Sunset Sound. It was the last in-person session before the Los Angeles lockdown order took effect in March 2020. Cindy's dear friend and touring buddy, Michael Bacon (one-half of the Bacon Brothers and award-winning composer) contributed cello from his studio in New York. After recording his part, he sent Cindy a note, in which she found the title of her new record:“When I write my ‘Remediation Practices for Enduring the Pandemic,' chapter 2 will read 1. Get an amazing lifelong friend who's got Beverly Hills chops but keeps it real. 2. Have her write a beautiful song. 3. Have her ask you to put 1,000,000 cell parts on it. 4. Do that. Title of the album: ‘While the Angels Sigh.'”Tracks were transferred back and forth throughout the 2020 quarantine between home studios and finally finished up in Cindy's bedroom at her new home in Big Sur.

Producer, songwriter, and recording artist Paul Guzzone describes himself as an “electronic troubadour” fusing acoustic guitar with a variety of sonic textures. His passion for pop melodies and radio hits are very much a part of his narrative style. In addition to songwriting and performing, Paul has produced recordings for the critically acclaimed folk-rock duo- Aztec Two Step and is the bass player and contributing producer for Kevin Bacon & his brother Michael of The Bacon Brothers band. In this episode, Paul talks about being signed to major record label right out of high school, his years as a session musician working with such renowned folk artists as Tom Chapin and Tom Rush, and his 2013 re-emergence as singer/songwriter and producer of his own unique brand of music. According to Paul, writing a song and then recording it are inseparable - "the Sound is Everything."
The actor Kevin Bacon comes on the Goldmine Podcast to talk about the longtime musical endeavor with his brother Michael, called The Bacon Brothers. The brothers have a new album out, The Way We Love, which is made up of 10 tracks of rootsy rock, including a live jam with guitarist and former New York Yankee Bernie Williams. Kevin will discuss a few standout tracks from the album (as songs are sampled) and how he's dealing with his own creativity during the current pandemic. This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
