Renton Kirk Learmont was a Trinidadian American who pursued a career as an actor trainer and casting director. He studied acting in Strasberg and Susan Batson in LA and NY and was represented by the Carson Organization. Renton was also a strong swimmer, swing dancer, roller-skater and Brazilian martial artist. Renton unexpectedly passed away at age 34 in 2004. His memorial was held on October 3, 2004, at Riverside Memorial Chapel and was attended by over 500 friends, family, skaters, singers, drummers, Rumi poetry, steel pan player, and Capoeira music. GET A GRIP is the product of a short film entitled: THE END OF THE RUN which was screened at the NY FILM ANTHOLOGY + SAN FRANCISCO FESTIVAL. It was written by Renton, in which he played a NY quad skater whose life spirals out of control because of alcohol and prescription drugs. The film consisted of a diverse cast and varied story lines, addressing issues of racism, nationalism, and sexuality. It was shot in the fall of 2023, Upstate and Manhattan with approximately 30 actors. Fifty cast and crew members came together to help with funding. Winsome is a highly respected Casting Director and Founder of the global casting agency, Winsome Sinclair and Associates. She began her career in the film and television industry under Spike Lee and has gained over 57 casting credits such as "Barber Shop," "All Eyez On Me," “The Cookout,” “Crooklyn,” "Hating Obama." Winsome is also a producer, motivational speaker, content creator, brand ambassador and published author of "You Are My SONshines". In this epsiode, Budi and Adam sit down with Eugene Ma to discuss his practice spanning many decades, and many countries and continents. Eugene Ma is a theatre director, actor and teacher with an inter-disciplinary background. Born in Toronto, brought up in Hong Kong and based primarily in New York - Eugene continues to perform, direct, and teacher internationally.Enchanted many years ago by the ingenuity of the Clown and virtuosic transformations in Commedia dell'Arte, Eugene embarked on and completed a two-year teaching apprenticeship with Christopher Bayes, making him one of a selected few "Bayes-certified" physical acting teachers in America. During the apprenticeship, Eugene served as Chris' teaching assistant and musical director for Clown and Commedia classes as well as student productions at Yale School of Drama, the Juilliard School as well as summer and corporate workshops, infusing more musicality into the curriculum as a tool to open up the actor's imagination and sensitivity.Eugene is currently on faculty at Columbia School of the Arts, where he teaches clown in the MFA Acting program.  Spring 2020 he will be teaching clown at Yale School of Drama, to the second year MFA actors.  Previous teaching engagements include workshops and classes at Yale's Undergraduate Theater Studies Program, Professional Performing Arts School (Arts High School) in Midtown Manhattan, St. Andrew's College in Canada.  He has also served as an advisor on several directing projects at New York University.Eugene is Resident Director at the Flea Theatre, developing works with the robust resident acting company under the mentorship of Artistic Director Niegel Smith. His acting credits include Theatre for a New Audience, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Berkely Rep.Having been trained as a pianist (ABRSM Gr. 8), organist and composer at a young age at the Yamaha Music Foundation in Hong Kong, Eugene still recalls his first composition assignment being motific explorations inspired by a picture of a large zoo on the music stand as he captured the journey of zoo-going as well as channeling the essence of different animals. As a result of his very aural-based training, impulsively framing and supporting a story with relatable motifs -- not the most complex and intricate musical structures -- has always been the priority and strength in Eugene's musical work. Charlotte Pleasants is an Australian born, New Zealand raised director, producer and actor. She is one of the founding members of Alchemy Theatre, an international Paris based theatre company with whom she is co-directing and co-producing The Taming of the Shrew this July. Charlotte previously produced and performed with Cygnet Theatre, notably: Benvolio (Romeo and Juliet, 2021), Goneril (Lear, 2020), Sir Toby Belch (Twelfth Night, 2019) and Hermia (A Midsummer Night's Dream, 2018). Charlotte is the artistic director of Tapis Théâtre, a bi-annual Paris based scratch night, she was also a part of the team producing the Paris Fringe. Jeremy James is a theatre director, actor, dramaturg and teaching artist, whose work has taken him to more than 20 countries over the past 25 years. Collaborating with renowned artists, directors and theatre companies internationally, most notably with Ariane Mnouchkine and Théâtre du Soleil for eight years, Jeremy has toured extensively to prestigious theatres and international festivals. He has received notable public and critical acclaim, with eminent theatre academic, Patrice Pavis, describing Jeremy's sharply crafted ensemble work as 'masterly performed and characteristic of the recent evolution of the dramaturgy of the actor'. In episode 055, we are joined by none other than Austin Pendleton. Austin is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the wide world of acting. Having trained with him myself, I was excited to share his perspective on the show. We talk about what initially fueled his excitement about acting, some of the strongest skills that successful actors have, and what were some of the biggest takeaways that Austin learned from his acting teachers.Austin Pendleton is a playwright, actor, director, teacher, and a Steppenwolf ensemble member since 1987. He received critical acclaim in 1964 for his performance as Motel in the original Broadway cast of “Fiddler on the Roof.” He appeared in “The Last Sweet Days of Isaac” (for which he won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Performance and an Obie Award), “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “Goodtime Charley,” and “Up from Paradise” as well as many other plays. In August 2006, Pendleton played the Chaplain in Bertolt Brecht's “Mother Courage and Her Children” with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in the Public Theater production. As a director, Pendleton has worked extensively on and off-Broadway. His direction of Elizabeth Taylor and Maureen Stapleton in Lillian Hellman's “The Little Foxes” garnered him a Tony Award nomination. Hamzah Saman is a MENASA actor, CSA Casting Director, and owner of Arab American Casting. Hamzah was born in Lebanon and came to the U.S. when he was 15 years old. This has fueled his career in Hollywood as he is actively working to change the perception of Arab and Middle Eastern artists. Some of Hamzah's acting roles include working on General Hospital in 2019, booking 4 roles in feature films in 2019, and starring as "Inmate 093" in the The Human Centipede III.
